Emperor Announces New Educational Initiative

Alexopolis- In a packed conference room in the Imperial press-room, Emperor Alexandus today announced a new initiative in an effort to combat drug use amongst school-aged children. In a prepared statement, the Emperor explained, "As we have faced an increasing problem of hallucinogen use amongst our youngest members of society, I have determined that we must educate our youth on the dangers of taking these illicit drugs. I have informed my educational council to begin instituting programs for those in as early as first grade so they may see what is to be their future, should they stray down the wrong path."

While some amongst the Imperial Senate applaud this bold move, others question where the money will come from. Rumors circulate that the money recently granted to the Imperial Park Service may be retracted and sent to the Education Council to help pay for the upcoming programs.

Hitchhiker Crosses the Country

Svardenia- In a show of defiance to Alexandus Prime's laws against Hitchhiking, which critics say are more strict now than they've ever been, a man, requesting to remain nameless, has successfully documented his hitchhiking adventure from the southernmost point of the country to the northernmost point. Footage of the man's interactions with various motorists has sent citizens across the country to the streets, protesting in support of the "Primean Hitchiker". Police report that protests so far has been peaceful, and more of an impromptu parade more than a protest.

Runaway Bus

Alexopolis- A test run of the first driverless public transportation bus went terribly today as the PTA (Primean Transportation Authority) bus #913 lost GPS communication and went driving down a local sidewalk. At 903 AM local time, the PTA sent a message to local police, asking for assistance in locating the missing bus. Within minutes, numerous calls were sent in to authorities, claiming a bus had lost control and was currently stopped in the middle of Downing St and Princely Blvd. An investigation has been ordered by the PTA, as they are claiming the communication equipment, not their bus, is to blame. Local IT company Secondary Solutions claims it maintains the communications equipment, but is not liable for any issues when a bus is in operation.

Runaway Bus Update

Posted Image

In a recent article, a story broke about a driverless bus that was intended to operate via GPS. This bus lost communication with the GPS service and drove on a sidewalk. The Bus service blames the GPS equipment manufacturer, Secondary Solutions, for their equipment malfunctioning. The IT company has denied liability, calling for a hearing by the Primean Courts.

In a statement provided by the court, they indicated, "With the service of GPS-navigated public transportation on the cutting edge of technology and currently in a 'testing' phase, the company that designed the equipment must be maintained and be held liable by that company. Only when the service is in full use would the non-liability clause of the agreement be enforceable."

Damages assessed to the company has been to the sum of 2.4 million credits.

Vigilante in Alexopolis

Posted Image

Alexopolis- Last night in the early hours of the morning, a woman on 81st street was in the middle of being robbed of her purse by two local men, when suddenly the men were set upon by a third individual in a red and black outfit. Both males received extensive injuries including bruised bones, minor lacerations to the face and upper body and numerous small scrapes and bruises. The female victim said she tried to thank the masked vigilante, but he simply told her to call 999, the number to PES (Prime Emergency Services) and request Police to arrest the men. She did, and within seconds the police were on the scene.

When the Police were asked to comment on their failure to assist the woman and a masked man on the loose, fighting crime in their wake, their only comment was, "We do not comment on ongoing investigations, other than we are looking into how our Crime Detection Network failed, and we are looking into the identity of this masked man."

Masked Vigilante Strikes Again

Posted Image

Alexopolis- A drunk driver last night in the early morning hours was stopped instantly by the recently discovered masked vigilante. Police are looking for any information that can lead to this person's arrest.

While some are not pleased with the actions of this individual, thinking it may draw out copy-cat style heroics, others fear this person is a person inside the Prime Judicial System, as he has been so far able to evade capture. "I feel that if he is stopping criminals, let him be." says Naomi Highland, a recent victim of a burglary where her TV was taken, "I haven't heard about him carrying a gun or hurting someone innocent, so whats the problem?"

New Zoo Opens

Posted Image

Swarthout- Today in southern Alexandus Prime, the city of Swarthout held its grand opening of the Swarthout Zoo. The Zoo's director, Jason Havardi, held a press conference at the opening, "With this new Zoo, we have the capability and funding to establish new wildlife preserves for our exotic animals. Included in the funding has been grants by the Primean government to launch a brand new Rhino breeding program, which the Emperor wishes to receive updates on regularly. It is with his grace and virtue that we are able to open up this brand new Zoo to the public."

Included in the Zoo is a lift system that can take guests through the preserve area. This state-of-the-art design allows guests to view the animals in the wild without directly interfering with them. On Opening day, lifts were at maximum capacity and are expected to remain so for the next several months.

When asked about any animals that are not in the Zoo, Mr Havardi commented, "We currently do not have any Lions or Cheetahs. We are currently seeking any either donor Zoo's or neighboring governments that may be interested in a trade."

Riots Turn Violent
Posted Image

Alexopolis- peaceful protests about the declining budget expenditures for those on Government assistance turned violent yesterday when a group of nearly a dozen individuals ventured 2 blocks away from the designated "Protest Zone". What started as a peaceful statement to the Emperor about the risk of abandoning those who cannot otherwise work became an exercise in urban warfare, as suddenly the group outside of the protest zone produced homemade firebombs and other small-scale explosives. When faced with a wall of Primean Riot Police, several men grabbed bats and other blunt objects with the goal of hurting Police.

Police report that 34 arrests were made, and all subjects will be held for a 24 hour period while they are processed and released. One man could be heard shouting "DEATH TO THE EMPEROR!" As he was taken away by Riot Van.

When contacted for comment, the Emperor's Press Office released a statement saying, "It has been brought to the attention of the Emperor that a great number of citizens claiming the inability to work have had their medical records falsified to satisfy the requirements for receiving Government assistance. In response, the Emperor has ordered a full investigation into the cause of such falsehood and has begun scaling back his assistance programs as a result.

Later this week, the Senate is set to meet to discuss future options for the Government Assistance Program, after the inquiry has officially ended.

Protests Continue in Capital
Posted Image

Alexopolis- For nearly a week now, citizens of the country have gathered en masse to protest the recent decline of funding for citizens on Government Assistance. Speaking to the crowd yesterday was Deputy Director of Administration, James Urbine, "We owe it to the citizens of this country to protect their interests, even if that means protecting them from each other." He went on to explain the Emperor's position once more against those who he called "freeload" off the system.

Mr Urbine's words were met with harsh criticism from the crowd. Boos and jeering could be heard for nearly hours, until Police finally forced the large crowd to disperse. As tensions remain high, it is not known yet what the solution will be that satisfies Alexandus Prime's citizens.

Hostile Confrontation with Police
Posted Image

Alexopolis- In the early hours yesterday morning, hundreds of Riot Police descended on citizens within Assembly Square, what has been recently been renamed by citizens as "Dissent HQ". Citizens by the dozen were either forced to vacate the square or were arrested. The roundup is said to be one of the fastest in the country's history, taking only an hour to remove several thousand individuals.

Police Captain Edward Bridges commented by saying, "We have been given orders from the Emperor's office to remove these citizens, and that's what we're here to do." Smaller scaled protests broke out after the removals began, but none turned violent.

The Press Office has announced they will be launching a new initiative related to these protests tomorrow. APN will have reporters on hand for the announcement.

Government Announces Job Initiative
Posted Image

Alexopolis- Amid tensions from protesters over the ongoing funding debate of assistance for citizens without work, an official from the Senate spoke to the crowd today, "While protests were ongoing, the work of your government continued. The Senate met in closed session to find a solution to this very obvious problem and one has been reached."

The official, who did not provide his name to press before or after the announcement, detailed a new hiring initiative, intending to hire an army of Case Workers that will be assigned to review the cases of assistance recipients to ensure that the citizens receiving aid are in need of it. "We have a duty to our citizens to ensure they are not being robbed of their hard earned credits. With your help, we will make sure that the citizens in need the most receive our help."

In another bold move, the official announced that the hiring process would begin today, merely two hours from the time the announcement was made. Citizens were offered competitive pay, government health benefits and, "signing bonuses for those citizens with social work backgrounds and/or social work specific education." Lines formed quickly outside the nearest government jobs facility.

Emperor Visits Lodja
Posted Image

Alexopolis International Airport- In what may be the first of its kind, the Emperor has left the Country on a mission of diplomacy. Sources within the Emperor's Palace inform the APN that the Emperor left at the request of Lodja's government. As these two nations have no formal relations, speculations run wild as to the reason for the meeting.

Within the Imperial Senate, members argue over the meeting. While some Senators claim now is not the right time for Diplomacy with foreign bodies, others claim it as a bold, new step in the evolution of what it means to be Emperor, "To be an Emperor in modern times means leaning away from the isolationism of the past." Exclaims Senator Djorn, amid a sea of reports early this morning, "I wish the Emperor well, but must inquire as to why the Senate was not notified of the trip beforehand."

Cyber Crime Spikes
Posted Image

Throughout the country, recent weeks have shown an increasing number of cyber crimes. Identity thefts, DDoS attacks and other forms of harassment over the internet have citizens demanding action by their local Police. Yesterday alone, records show 146 reports of credit card theft, up from the previous week of 23 reports of the same crime. "It clearly has to be done by an insider." Claims Joyce Stidham, one of the victims, "How else can this go undetected?"

Police have been caught off guard by these hacks. While one police spokesperson explained, "These levels of attacks have been planned out. With this level of sophistication, we will be playing catch up for a while on it." This bad news however has been alleviated slightly, as the Alexopolis Police Department advises it's citizens, "We have a solid lead on this hacker. Evidence suggests the work is being done by one person rather than a group, as previously thought. Make no mistake, this person will be brought to justice."

Hacker Caught
Posted Image

Thurst- In northern Alexandus Prime, authorities announced the capture of the ringleader of hackers that recently rocked the country. The suspect, identified as 24 year old Irving Thorner, was captured in the early hours yesterday morning after counter-terrorism electronic defense officials tracked down the primary site of the hacks. "This young man had intricate knowledge of our systems." Stated an official from Alexopolis, "The fact that he was able to access systems previously thought impenetrable gives us cause for alarm. We will be looking into how this individual was able to break in and steal information from the Government."

The first appearance in court for Thorner is set for this Friday. Numerous police officers are said to be protecting him as Government loyalists have made threats against Thorner's life.

Prototype Leak
Posted Image

In the wake of Irving Thorner's capture, an image has surfaced on local pages indicating some leaked military specifics in regards to a new type of Main Battle Tank that is being developed. While none of this information has been confirmed by the military however, it does appear to showcase upgrades from the current line of tanks run by the military. In a move two years ago, a similar image was released officially, however the frame was much taller and bulkier than the one showcased here.

Retired Army Lt General Mark Bertram looked at the photo and commented, "If this is real, it shows a definite advancement in AI tech that was theoretical when I retired in '01." This calls into question whether drones or even AI-controlled tanks are in the future. We cannot be sure but we will have more on this if more images or even full schematics are released. There is still no information on who specifically leaked the photo originally.

Government Denies Tank AI

Posted Image

Alexopolis- General of the Alexandus Prime Army, General Marius Ions commented today that the photo deemed a leak by the recent hacker ring is a fake. "We have no intention at this time of developing a fully autonomous tank." Said Ions among a flurry of questions, "We have looked into remote control tanks, similar to the UAVs you now see above you, but the concept of AI in our fighting vehicles is simply not feasable." Similar photos to the tank were officially released, however officials state designs are still in the concept stages.

When asked if we could expect drone tanks in the near future, nobody was available for comment on the topic. An inquiry to the Emperor's office was made, however at this time there has been no response. The Emperor has not commented on anything about military technology for over a month, when he spoke about the latest UAVs being deployed by the military and National Police force.

3 Armed Child 'OK' by Doctors
Posted Image

Trusken- In the small town of Trusken today, Doctors have concluded that Duncan Abbot, a baby born in town, is OK to live with 3 arms. When asked if anything similar was in the bloodline of the family, the mother, Edwina answered, "Nothing like this has ever happened. I think something happened to my great great great grandmother, like an extra ear, but I dont think it would affect my baby."

Doctors have come from all around the nation to study the child. A leading surgeon from Rexus Memorial Hospital in Alexopolis stated, "With the rate of growth of the baby and the arm, we can only wait for additional data before we determine how the child will react to an extra limb."

The Emperor's office was asked for comment, but none was received. Historically, the Government has taken more interest into matters of medical breakthroughs or deformities of this nature, but for now, all is quiet on the Emperor front.

Imperial Army Unveils Prototype VTOL
Posted Image

In an unexpected move this afternoon, Primean Research & Development has announced a new type of VTOL aircraft. The aptly named "Flying Fist" was revealed when rumors circulated about a new type of tank that was assumed to be nearing completing. A spokesperson for the event revealed, "While working closely with the company Pylon Aeroworks, the Alexandus Prime Army has agreed to go ahead with development of this prototype aircraft." The photo showcases the 'combat' version of the aircraft, "With different models available to us, all of which are modular, we hope to eventually boast a capability of bringing into a combat zone both combat and carrier types of the Fist aircraft. This will allow us to save money in the long run by phasing out the various types of aircraft currently in use by the military."

While documents show that initial deployment of the aircraft will cost a sum of 30 million credits per vehicle, the long term maintenance of the vehicle will decrease over time as parts become increasingly available and older model vehicles are phased out, whose parts are becoming harder to come by.

Meteorite Nearly Strikes Capital
Posted Image

Over the night skies yesterday, onlookers were wowed by the display- a meteorite burning up in the atmosphere. Astronomers were on hand for the display, stating that they have been tracking this meteorite for some time, "We believe that it was meteorites similar to this one that formed the Mundus we know today." said Clyde Parks, local University Professor, "Recently, several meteors have missed the world by hundreds of thousands of miles, which may seem like a lot, but in terms of space, that is far too close for comfort."

As the meteor entered the atmosphere it instantly caught on fire. Pieces could be seen breaking off and also disintegrating as it descended through the atmosphere. Onlookers were given a show that is not said to happen again for an estimated 3 years, when Meteor M-45892 is said to pass the planet.

CITYWIDE BLACKOUT
Posted Image

Umbridge- At dusk today, the power in the central city of Alexandus Prime known as Umbridge, home to over 100,000 residents, has gone out. Communications to the city has also gone dark, as Imperial Power Grid workers are attempting to find out where the situation has originated.

We recently reached out to the Provincial Governor's office, who has at the moment declined to comment. While information remains slim at best, We will be looking to the Imperial Police Force for additional information.

Governor Calls for Secession
Posted Image

In a bold move yesterday, following the events of the Umbridge Incident, Provincial Governor Paul Bullia has begun speaking about secession from the Empire. "We have dealt with the uselessness of the Imperial Government long enough!" Exclaimed Bullia, "When crisis hit our fair city, the Emperor did nothing to help us. When we called for aid, we were sent Police! Guns will not help us at this time. We need food, water, construction material!" The Provincial Governor spoke at length about what he perceived as the inaction of the central government.

Officials within the Imperial Senate have called for Bullia to step down. "If the Governor cannot see his territory through this crisis, then perhaps it is time for him to leave." Noted Senator Grachhus, who hails from Umbridge. "I can understand his frustration, but in a time of crisis one should not look away from the central government but towards it. His failure to do that is a crime in itself."
