Introduction Since the early history of Lodja there has been a system of nobility, this is referred to as a Patrician system. These are people who have been throughout history either rewarded for their service to the nation, or been fortunate enough to inherit land and titles. Today there are over 3000 noble families, however many of them do not enjoy the considerable wealth and power afforded to some. This book is a guide to the more influential families in Lodja. THE KALINOWSKI FAMILY Were made nobility in the 13th Century following their founders exploits in battle. During battle against a potential invader in 1276 Tomas Kalinowski was seen charging alone against a infantry unit advancing in line towards an unprepared position, his act of heroism cost him his right leg and an eye but brought the unprepared unit much needed time. The family were given the land of Tuslana as their seat and the now Duke Tomas established the area as a rich farming area. The family provided a Queen in 1653 when Queen Valda held the crown until her death from plague in 1659. Notable Members Duke Tomas Kalinowski of Tuslana The Duke was born into a wealthy Plebleian family who were attempting to become Patricians through military service through four generations, Tomas would have been the third. He lead a noticeably undocumented life until in 1276 taking a solo charge against the Queen's enemies in battle. His charge was soon supported by members of his Liege lords cavalry and after the battle he was discovered with his right leg badly injured and it was amputated. He had also had his right eye slashed. His liege lord, Duke Sven of Janaow put his name forward for ennoblement which was granted the same day. The Duke retired to Tuslana which at the time was a small hamlet. He managed to raise considerable funds to renovate the hamlet and enlarge it. His bravery making many Plebs flock to his banner. By the time of his death of old age in 1308 he had turned it into a thriving farming community. Edited by MrsIronside, 31st March 2017 - 10:44 AM.

THE KOSCIESZA FAMILY The Kosciesza family gained their nobility in the 14th Century. Unlike many noble families they neither married into nobility nor won it in battle, instead the family had become perhaps the most wealthy Patrician family in Lodja and through clever manoeuvring had acquired substantial leases on land lasting 200 years. Upon the death of Roman Kosciesza he transferred the lease of this land to the temples of Sessifet making them extremely wealthy with 180 years of the lease on land paid for and now in the faiths name. As a reward for his gift the Priesthood nominated the family to be ennobled. Notable Members Sir Johan Kosciesza Born c. 1346 he was a Lodjain judge and politician from Cavand. During the reign of Henrietta I his father had passed a large amount of property to the Temple of Gloenev. Sir Johan became a lawyer and was appointed as a Justice of the Common Plebs in 1371 and Chief Justice of the Queen's Bench in 1372. He was also elected Chancellor of the University of Gaia As Chief Justice he was obliged to suppress the Plebs' Revolt in 1381. Although the leader of the revolt was struck down by a fellow nobleman during negotiations on behalf of the Queen on 15 June, Sir Johan gave the finishing stroke to the Plebs leader, the lord mayor of Gaia having only wounded him in the neck. As a result of this he was pursued by the peasants. He reached Satanoa Temple where he pleaded sanctuary by grasping the handle of the Temple Door. This was to no avail, however, and he was taken to the market place by the mob and beheaded. He was buried in the temple once the Priestess had sewn his head back on. THE TAR FAMILY The Tar family are one of the oldest Patrician families, having been ennobled in 1087. The family became so influential that in the 13th Century Duke Henri Tar purchased a whole island which today bears the family name. Notable Members Queen Viktoriya Tar Viktoriya Tar was born on the Isle of Tar, one of Lodja’s small islands which is owned exclusively by her family. She spent much of her early childhood there being educated by a private tutor. She was the families second child with her brother Luca being three years older. During her early childhood she contracted meningitis however it was caught early and treated with no lasting effects. The incident did however make her mother very protective of her ever since. Upon reaching the age of 9 Viktoriya was enrolled at the Gaia Girls Grammar School as a boarding student. There she studied a very diverse curriculum in accordance with Lodja’s National Curriculum. She was by the age of 10 considered multi-lingual with the ability to speak Lodjain and Russian. At the age of 16 she took her National Diploma exams gaining high passes in eight subjects and middle passes in three, she took exams in several languages gaining high passes in Lodjian, Russian, Norse, English and Latin. She continued her studies into her Higher Diploma years, sitting her final exams in early 2016 gaining top grades in Lodjian, Russian and English. She was encouraged to go to University by her teachers however she did not apply believing that she would learn more working for the family. With the Tar family being renowned for their traditional views Viktoriya’s father negotiated an arranged marriage for his daughter. At the age of 16 it was verbally agreed that Viktoriya would marry the eldest son of the Lord of Kruska when he turned 18. The marriage was arranged for the day after his 18th birthday, the 6th August 2019. Since Viktoriya became Queen however the arrangement was cancelled. In 2017 she married Baron Roman Chowynk. Following the death of Queen Sonia the Conclave began searching for the new Queen. Viktoriya was one of the three girls invited to reside on the Palace of the Goddess for a period to determine whether she was suitable. On the 27th April 2016 it was announced that Viktoriya was to be the new Queen and later that day was coroneted in the traditional ceremony within the Palace of the Goddess. The ceremony was the first of its kind to be attended by the international community. Since then she had formed Lodja into a nation which is beginning to look outward into the world. THE IVANOV FAMILY Notable Members Lord Besarian Ivanov Born on the royal estate in Leubin in 1980 he is the eldest of three sons and one daughter born to Lord and Lady of Leubin. He was educated on the island of Leubin by private tutor until the age of 11 along with his siblings. During that time he became a keen sailor making use of the many small boats his father owned. In 1991 he was sent to the mainland to be educated at the Gaia Grammar School where he attended as a boarding student. While at the Gaia Grammar School he became renowned for being a poet winning several state run competitions for junior writers. In addition to his academic success he was a noted rugby player playing on the right wing for regional team and having trials in 1993 for Dynamo Gaia. In 1995 however he damaged his cruciate knee ligament and was released from Dynamo Gaia. At 16 he sat his National Diploma gaining high level passes in each of his eight subjects. This enabled him to continue his education at the Grammar School until 1998 where he sat and passed exams in History, Lodjian Literature, Theology and Economics. It was expected that Besarion would continue his education at University however in 1998 he enrolled on officer training with the national military. He graduated second in his class and entered service in 1999 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Queen’s Own Dragoons as a tank commander. He quickly demonstrated an ability to command and combined with his father’s wealth rose rapidly through the ranks reaching the rank of Major in 2004. In 2005 he was one of several officers tasked with investigating the possibility of bringing all military doctrine within the nation in line with the governments military, a task that was only part successful. He was however given command of the Queen’s Military Academy in 2006, some believing it because of his work on the investigation, others because he had become friends with Prince Alexei who influenced the Queen’s decision. Besarion continued his military career running the Academy until 2011 when he resigned his commission in order to take up a post on the Conclave. Following the death of his father in 2006 Besarion inherited the title of Lord of Leubin, one of the smaller islands but a very wealthy one. Instead of returning to the estate he instead maintained his military career preferring to delegate the day to day affairs of the estate to his siblings. He did however begin to use his title to bring in extra wealth to the family by sponsoring several Plebeian businesses. In 2011 he was invited to join the nations Conclave and began attending meetings with the Queen and other council members. It was reported that Besarion was a leading light for diversifying the nation economically as well as relaxing some restrictions placed on Plebeians, such as granting them the right to own businesses. In 2012 he began a romantic relationship with the Queen’s grand-daughter Princess Somya. The two were often photographed together by the nations Royal obsessed media, this was despite Besarion having a reputation as a ladies man. The two split in 2014 amid rumours that Somya wished to marry and Besarion was less inclined. In the weeks that followed he was spotted with several other prominent women. Despite this falling out with Princess Somya he was promoted to Lord of the Council in early 2015 following the death of Lord Eli of Smolsk. As Lord of the Council Besarion took on much of the day to day running of the Queendom as Queen Sonia became increasingly frail. He began consultations to review the rights of Plebeians however this was halted in 2016 when Queen Sonia died. He was, along with Priestess Raia responsible for creating the shortlist for Queen to succeed Queen Sonia. He took the unusual step of inviting the international community to witness the new Queen’s coronation, the first time this has ever been done. Edited by MrsIronside, 31st March 2017 - 11:34 AM.
