Moracian fertility rate at highest since 2004

Today the Moracian Office of Population Statistics announced that the fertility rate in Moracia is at it's highest since 2004. The surprise increase has been cheered by the government. Despite Moracia maintaining relatively strict border controls which tend to favour those from richer, more developed nations the stable economy and good standards of living have lead to a birth rate boom. Moracia has an average of 1.87 children per woman. The average age of first time also dropped from 27 to 26.8 years old. Many have said this is due to a variety of readily available programs to help new mothers and to provide them with 35 hours per week of free childcare so they can get back to work. Plus once children reach school age clubs are provided for free using the youth activity subsidy which gives schools $750,000 a year to spend on after school clubs to allow for mothers and fathers to work.

When we asked demographic professors at the University of Bridgeport about their thoughts on why the fertility rate they said this. "For one it is deeply engrained within the culture of our nation for women to work and this has been common since the 1870s. In the 1930s the Government introduced many programs which encouraged working women to have children. This mindset has passed down through the generations and has lead to the booming fertility rate. This coupled with the programs previously mentioned in the article has lead to many women having more children. Another aiding factor to the increase is the relatively non-existent stigma to having children outside of wedlock. However, the most important factor has to be the fact that women feel Moracia is a safe and secure environment to raise children in and as such are willing to have more children because they feel these children have some of the best life chances and will grow up happy and safe. One final important thing to add is that the teenage pregnancy rate has dramatically increased which has also helped this.

President Kingsley announces bid for re-election

Today President William Kingsley announced that he would run for a 2nd term as President. The wildly popular President who was Prime Minister for 23 years will be running with the endorsement of National Conservative and Progressive parties. The Presidency is a figurehead role which is elected by popular vote every 5 years. Traditionally former PMs have occupied the roles however some former Generals have also held the office. The President must also sign all laws into office which is a ceremonial power but is deeply important to the functioning of Moracia's democracy.

As of right now the Social Democrat-Green coalition has yet to propose a candidate however with the President so popular at 76% approval it is almost certain they will be defeated at the polls.
