BREAKING: GRAND PLENUM VOTES IN FAVOUR OF JOINING CTO
Final result - AYE: 516, NAY: 75, ABSTAINS/ABSENTS: 9

Posted Image
The Grand Plenum voted overwhelmingly in favour of the motion which will take Bykrestan into the CTO

The major story of the day is the news from the Palace of Aynor - it is understood that the Grand Plenum has voted overwhelmingly in favour of Bykrestan joining the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation.

The Liberal Democratic Party, Green Party and Socialist Worker's Party all voted unanimously in favour of the proposal, while the Bykrestani Nationalist Alliance voted unanimously against, citing their "lack of desire for Bykrestan to be beholden to foreign interests" as the reason for this. The ruling Progressive Party's votes would have been unanimous, but there were one or two absentees, and more intriguingly, a minority of "rebels" who voted against the proposal, for reasons not yet known - something that is worth pondering is how party whips and of course, the First Minister, who initially tabled the proposal, will respond to that. The main opposition party, the Conservatives, were split 140 in favour to 58 against. The fact that even the opposition were mostly in favour, coupled with a huge overall margin of victory for the proposal tells the story - Bykrestan wants to join the CTO.

When questioned regarding the news earlier today, Supreme Chancellor Severin Constantine lauded the Grand Plenum for their decision. "I am glad that the Grand Plenum made the decision it did," he said, "we've had a number of petitions from the public with millions of signatures in total asking for this proposal to be considered, and I think the result pretty accurately represents the attitude of the Bykrestani people to joining the CTO. The passing of this motion represents a new era for the Grand Republic - one of international co-operation and interaction, rather than the previous isolationist status quo. I am sure that CTO membership will bring many benefits to Bykrestan as well as showcasing our great nation to the rest of Mundus."

The success of the CTO motion is just one of a number of political updates which have been flying in as of late. It was confirmed by the Office of the Supreme Chancellor hours ago that Empress Estelle von Waldensteyck-Grimaldi of Benelux-Helvetica has invited Bykrestani officials to the Abrahamic Alpine Empire in order to strengthen Bykro-Helvetican relations. This represents the Grand Republic's first major step onto the global stage, and is no doubt exciting, not just for those involved in the visit, but for the nation as a whole. We can only wait with bated breath for the outcome of the visit and what benefits, if any, it will have for Bykrestan.

There will, of course, be far more to report on regarding this over the coming days and weeks, so watch this space!

BYKRESTANI DELEGATION ARRIVES IN HIMEYAMA
Visit represents first major step in new, "involved" foreign policy doctrine

Posted Image
Supreme Chancellor Constantine waves to the press after landing in Kayano

Making good on their invitation to Himeyama, the Bykrestani delegation to the Syndicated Confederacy arrived in Kayano earlier today.

After a long flight from Leocaster International Airport to Himeyama, the delegation (which includes First Minister Halsten Huskarl and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Desiderio von Scherbach) had to endure a helicopter ride from their airport of arrival to the city of Kayano, where the meeting between them and Himeyan officials is due to take place. It is expected that the talks will revolve around how best to go about improving Bykro-Himeyan relations, as well as both nations' commitments to Ardian stability as a whole.

The delegates were unable to take questions from the press upon their arrival in Kayano, however before leaving, the Supreme Chancellor stated "our visit to the Syndicated Confederacy of Himeyama represents a huge initial step in our participation on the international stage. By improving our relations with like-minded nations, we will build ourselves a strong foundation on which to really establish Bykrestan as a major player in world affairs, as well as contributing to the wellbeing of Ardia and Mundus as a whole. I look forward to seeing what a strong relationship with Himeyama has to offer, and I'm sure they are thinking the same about strengthening their ties with the Grand Republic."

The presence of such prominent figures in the Bykrestani delegation to Himeyama appears to demonstrate the commitment that the Supreme Chancellor, as well as the ruling Progressive Party, are willing to show to this bold new direction for Bykrestan. Gone are the days of isolationism, when Bykrestan was happy to exist pretty much ignorant of the outside world, but times have changed. If Bykrestan wants to succeed, it needs to establish itself on the global stage. Visits such as this are key in doing so.

Naturally, there are many more updates that could result from this visit, so stay tuned to BBS for more news!

STEELRIDGE CITY PLENUM APPROVES PLANS FOR NEW MEGAMALL
"Mall of Ardia" shopping and entertainment complex will be world's largest upon completion

Posted Image
An artist's impression of the completed complex

The City Plenum of Steelridge today announced that they had approved plans submitted by the nation's largest construction and property conglomerate, Babel Enterprises, to build a gargantuan new shopping and entertainment complex in Steelridge.

The "Mall of Ardia", as it is being touted by Babel Enterprises, is projected to cost $1,300,000,000 (approximately ₡1,547,520,000 at the current exchange rate) to fully construct. This price tag owes itself to plans for an aquarium and an amusement park to be housed inside the complex, as well as hundreds of retail outlets, a huge cinema, an ice rink and numerous restaurants and pubs. Steelridge is already one of Bykrestan's tourist hotspots, but it appears that recent actions taken by the City Plenum are trying to improve tourism in the area still further. In fact, the statement announcing the plans actually stated that they were approved because of their "ambition" as well as "the undoubted benefit that will be brought to the local economy by creating thousands of jobs and encouraging greater tourism."

The scale of the project is unprecedented - the site will eventually take up 1,124,000m² (with an internal floor space of 548,128m²) - making it by far the largest on the face of Mundus, and will take a number of years to build, but upon completion it is expected to provide a massive boost to the local economy. The Mall of Ardia is predicted to create 20,000 new jobs as well as bring in many more tourists looking for a shopping experience unlike any they have had before. The complex will get its own metro station to connect it to the existing Steelridge Underground network, as well as providing 14,000 parking spaces for those who travel by car.

Ivo Vieth, CEO of Babel Enterprises, said the Mall of Ardia was "a giant leap forward for the Bykrestani retail, entertainment and tourist industries, not only due to its sheer scale but also because of the wealth of different events and locations it offers. The Mall of Ardia will effectively be a city within a city, such is its size. It will easily be able to handle tens of thousands of visitors a day once it's finished. I cannot wait to see it completed, and I'm sure the people of Steelridge, Bykrestan and maybe even the world share my feelings. It's a colossal project but one which will certainly be worth investing in for the benefit of Bykrestan."

MUNDOVISION FEVER GRIPS BYKRESTAN
Helena Paparizou to represent the Grand Republic at Song Contest

Posted Image
Paparizou performs her entry, My Number One after winning Bykrestan's national selection show, Our Song for Mundovision

Nearly twenty-five million people tuned into Our Song for Mundovision yesterday to decide the entry that Bykrestan will send to the competition, ultimately choosing Helena Paparizou's My Number One with 67% of the vote.

Speaking after the victory performance of her song, Paparizou said "I'm so proud to have been chosen to represent Bykrestan at Mundovision this year. I'm really looking forward to heading over to East Moreland and hopefully doing the nation proud. I think the song's really catchy and could prove to be quite memorable for the audience, so I hope we can do well. Everyone here seemed to love it, anyway." The loudest cheer of the night came when it was revealed that My Number One had triumphed in the Grand Republic's national selection competition with 67% of the vote (about 12 million votes out of the 18 million that voted).

The song is already enjoying chart success in Bykrestan, rapidly rising up the Bykrestan Top 50 and already being placed in the top 10. Many think that the song will soon top the charts (Our Number One, if you'll pardon the pun) in the Grand Republic and hope that the song will find success in the charts in other nations too. It is difficult to go out in public in Bykrestan at the moment without hearing the song playing at least once, such is its popularity. This popularity probably owes itself to 'Mundovision fever' but die-hard fans protest that the song would find success regardless of association with the Song Contest.

The contest is due to be held in East Moreland in the near future, and BBS 1 will be broadcasting the event live on TV and the BBS app. BBS will also be providing live online updates of the contest, so please, watch this space for all your Mundovision news!

CONSTANTINE URGES CALM OVER KAITAINE CRISIS
Rokkenjima and Dartfordia have already imposed sanctions on the Soviet Republic

Posted Image
Constantine: "I fear Rokkenjima and Dartfordia have not considered the wider effects of these sanctions"

As the escalating situation surrounding Kaitaine continues to simmer, Supreme Chancellor Severin Constantine released an official statement earlier today addressing the situation.

Constantine criticised the sanctions imposed on the Soviet Republic by Rokkenjima and Dartfordia, calling them "ill-thought out" and "failing to grasp the bigger picture." He went on to say "the Grand Republic wants to remain on good terms with our neighbours in the First Empire, but we must put the safety of our nation and the stability of the region first, and continuing to uphold these sanctions will threaten that. While Bykrestan is not calling for a total rollback of the sanctions imposed on Kaitaine, we do at least encourage a rethink. I fear Rokkenjima and Dartfordia have not considered the wider effects of these sanctions - for example, Kaitaine is a key trade ally of Tokulel. Extensive economic sanctions on the Soviet Republic will have a direct impact on Tokulel's economy, despite them having little to no involvement in the whole situation."

Constantine also stated that he could recognise why the sanctions had been imposed but repeated his calls for a more measured response. "It is understandable why the First Empire and the Kingdom of Dartfordia have decided to impose the sanctions," he said, "such as the ongoing plight of the Bene Gesserit - though there is still much which is unclear regarding this - as well as the Soviet Republic's... shall we say, outspoken stance on the international stage. Nevertheless, the sanctions do seem rushed and not quite fully considerate of the bigger picture. A more measured response, such as one which offsets or, at the very least, reduces the detrimental effects the sanctions will have on Tokulel, is required. Pursuant to this, the Grand Republic will be exploring possible avenues to help prevent Tokulel from being adversely affected by the sanctions on Kaitaine."

This is a developing situation and BBS will naturally bring continuous updates to keep you in the loop with regards to this important story.

FLOOD PREPARATIONS BEGIN IN COASTAL AREAS
Precautions being taken as Morris Ice Shelf looks set to break off and cause rise in sea levels

Posted Image
A citizen in the small coastal town of Zalfari helps distribute sandbags

Following reports from the University of Keepton, Bykrestan is busy preparing for the break-off of the Morris Ice Shelf from Hrothgar and the subsequent rise in sea levels as a result.

Preparations for this natural disaster are already well underway, but the Secretariat of Interior Affairs is making sure no stone is left unturned as finishing touches are added. Sandbags have been distributed to coastal areas and pumps have been temporarily installed to try and direct the worst of the floods away from affected areas. Travel to areas which are predicted to be affected by the rise in sea levels has been discouraged unless absolutely necessary or unavoidable. In addition to this, the Grand Bykrestani Armed Forces have offered to help provide humanitarian aid should any preparations go awry, and an initial disaster relief fund of 100 million Cavizas has been established to help offset the damages of the floods, although this could be set to rise.

It is rumoured that Bykrestan will also be making provisions to give aid to the worst affected nations on Mundus after domestic preparations are complete. It is also alleged that Supreme Chancellor Severin Constantine said that "we may ultimately have to reconsider our attitudes to energy and sustainability" at an emergency Cabinet meeting held earlier this week. It is likely that the Grand Republic might pursue more renewable energy solutions which do not cause as much environmental damage through pollution or indeed other means.

More updates and warnings will be provided by the Bykrestan Broadcasting Service as the crisis develops.

CHALLENGING DRAW FOR FALCONS
Bykrestan drawn in same Rugby World Cup group as Vaguzia, Kaitaine and the hosts

Posted Image
Bykrestan in action during an open training match with their reserve string

Bykrestan's national rugby team has been handed a fairly tough draw for the upcoming Rugby World Cup, being placed in Group C with a number of reputable rugby-playing nations, including Vaguzia, Kaitaine, and the hosts, the Commonwealth of the Iwi.

Falcons (the nickname for the team) Head Coach Guifré Bover said that the group was "a challenge, but not impossible", adding that "if we play our game right and put what we've done in training into action, then we'll be able to give some of the bigger teams a run for their money. Bykrestan may not have made significant forays onto the rugby scene but thanks to the Secretariat of Culture putting more funding into sports, from grassroots up to professional level I feel we're really making improvements, quite rapidly so over the past few years." He then joked, "I just hope that if there's East Morelanders or Achkaerinese people in Bykrestan interested in playing rugby, some of them will take our citizenship and play for us instead!", which raised a chuckle from the assembled journalists in the room. Bover went on to say "it'd be unwise to go all gung-ho against the big teams, but we're looking at ways to spring a few tactical surprises on them. I apologise now to people who were hoping to hear our plans, but I'm not going to be going into depth on our strengths and weaknesses in case the other teams are listening!"

Many Bykrestanis are cautiously optomistic about their team's chances in the Rugby World Cup. They know that the Falcons is probably not going to win the tournament but are hopeful for a few upsets and giant-killings on the way, regardless of where Bykrestan eventually finishes in the competition. Bykrestani fans of the major sports like football and rugby are notoriously passionate, and it's hoped that the passion and devotion of the fans to the team will ultimately help Bykrestan's cause. Again, we may not win the tournament but the Grand Republic certainly seems set to make a good impression - things can only get better from here, of course.

Well-wishes from politicians, celebrities and other famous figures have been pouring in from all over Bykrestan, including a picture uploaded on the official Progressive Party pages on various social media platforms, showing the Cabinet adorned in replica kits and scarves, along with a large banner saying "Good Luck Falcons!" This solidarity is echoed in the streets, with many people digging out their Falcons kits, both old and new. The smell of mothballs may be lingering, but one thing that can't be questioned is the loyalty of the huge groundswell of support the national side has going into the Rugby World Cup.

BBS will of course have correspondents at the World Cup to bring you constant updates, match reports and other analysis. Stay tuned!

CONSTANTINE: BHINX SPEECH "SENSELESS PRATTLE", "UTTER HOGWASH"
Supreme Chancellor officially condemns so-called 'Warriors For Gaia', classes them a terrorist organisation

Posted Image
Constantine: "Surely the world cannot stand idly by while these extremists wreak havoc in the name of some baseless, misguided belief"

In a passionate speech earlier today, Supreme Chancellor Severin Constantine slammed the Quintelian eco-feminist extremist group 'Warriors for Gaia', calling them "violent upstarts" with "no solid basis for their crimes."

Here is the full transcript of Constantine's speech:
Quote:

"Friends, colleagues, compatriots;

I am sure you are by now well aware of this so-called "Warriors For Gaia" extremist group that has recently arisen in Quintelia. They are nothing but violent upstarts, and with a targeted campaign against their actions, I am sure we can bring a swift end to their terror. Chanty Bhinx's speech was full of inconsistencies. In fact, it was senseless prattle and utter hogwash. How she can claim to be a feminist and an environmentalist while her group kills women and damages the environment is beyond me. Clearly these "warriors" did not think through the repercussions of setting fire to rubber - perhaps some of the fumes got to their heads.

The Grand Republic of Bykrestan hereby condemns the Warriors For Gaia as a terrorist organisation, and we hereby pledge the aid of our intelligence services to Quintelia to help them root out these criminals and put an end to their violent acts. We must also condemn in the strongest possible way the attempted use of mustard gas against innocent civilians. Mustard gas is an appalling chemical weapon, a relic of bygone times, and one which I thought the world had moved on from using. Apparently this is not the case - it is clear that the so-called Warriors For Gaia have no regard for human life, they want to take as many lives as possible to bring more attention to their ridiculous crusade. Surely the world cannot stand idly by while these extremists wreak havoc in the name of some baseless, misguided belief.

Let me be clear that Bykrestan in no way condemns feminism or environmentalism - we have brought in legislation to prevent gender discrimination in the workplace and further afield, and we have introduced emissions targets for our industries, but not so much as to stifle economic growth. We encourage sensible use of resources and an increased focus on renewable, sustainable energy and resources.

Now that is out of the way, it must also be known that these terrorists also cause deep offence to the Queendom of Lodja, due to the inevitable confusion they will create between themselves and the Warriors of Gaia, who are anything but terrorists. This is, of course, not the most pressing issue that these terrorists present but it is a matter of contention and we can understand why Queen Viktoriya and the people of Lodja are so upset.

So, I now address Chanty Bhinx and her so-called Warriors For Gaia directly: lay down your arms. Cease your reprehensible actions. Lay down your weapons, your explosives and any other implements you have which you intend to use to bring harm to innocent people. If you do not do this, then I am sure you will soon be facing the wrath of not just your own nation's government, but that of the combined governments of Mundus.

That is all."

BBS will have more updates on this situation as it develops - what does it mean for the stability of Mundus? Only time will tell.

FIRST EVER FORMULA MUNDUS VICTORY FOR MAGPIE RACING
Enric Tomàs takes chequered flag at Lodjan Coastal Grand Prix

Posted Image
Tomàs shows off the trophy to the press after winning the Lodjan Coastal GP

It was a great day for Bykrestan's Magpie Racing at the Lodjan Coastal Grand Prix, with Enric Tomàs taking home the team's first ever podium finish and first ever victory at Formula Mundus.

The win takes Tomàs back up to 3rd in the Drivers' Championship with 55 points, just thirteen points behind leader of the pack Megan Harrison. Meanwhile, Àlex Andreu finished 10th, leaving him 11th in the Drivers' Championship. Tomàs' victory also pushes Magpie Racing back up to 3rd in the Constructors' Championship, though their total of 64 points is some way behind the Riviere Corporation's 105, who currently lead that particular table. None of this takes away, however, from what has been a momentous and historic day for Bykrestani motorsport, and one that will live long in the memory for Bykrestani fans of Formula Mundus.

Speaking to the press after the race, Tomàs said "It was a great race. Takeshi [Nakanishi] was doing his best to be a pain in my arse towards the end, but ultimately he made it a better spectacle. He may be aggressive in the corners but I like to think I'm no pushover myself, it was a great battle. I'm glad I just managed to edge him right at the end. It's more points for the team and I after all!" When questioned on Nakanishi's comments about a possible rivalry, Tomàs replied "if he wants a friendly rivalry, I'll give him a friendly rivalry. As long as I get all the bragging rights, of course!"

The to-and-fro between Tomàs and Nakanishi is certainly something to keep an eye on and something that will add a bit of extra spice to proceedings over the rest of the Race Calendar. Up next is a trip to the other side of the world (at least by Lodjan standards), where Magpie Racing and the other teams will be participating in the Royali Grand Prix of Vaguzia. Stay tuned for BBS coverage of the event.

BONUS POINT LITTLE CONSOLATION FOR BOVER
Bykrestan lose 25-18 to the Iwi in opening match of the Rugby World Cup

Posted Image
Enrico Rosario scores a try to save some face for the Falcons

The Rugby World Cup did not get off to a good start for Bykrestan, who lost 25-18 to the Commonwealth of the Iwi in the opening match of the tournament.

The Iwi led for most of the game, but that is not to say there was a lack of effort from the Falcons. There were a surprising number of occasions where the Bykrestani defence was able to grind down the ruthless Iwi attacks - surprising based on what was expected before the game, anyway. The Falcons eventually ended the match having scored two tries, one converted and one not, as well as two penalties. And of course, the fans were typically passionate, backing the team to the hilt throughout the match despite the result, as well as emptying the kegs of various Hunter's Bay hostelries both before and after the game.

Coach Guifré Bover, however, was not as upbeat. "The result is somewhat respectable considering our opposition today," he said to a packed press conference following the match, "however, there is still a lot that we can and need to improve on. Our defence may have been admirable but we need to be more incisive and more efficient in our attacks. It's so frustrating when you can see the team is giving it there all but nothing is resulting from it. It's a lesson we probably needed with it being our first foray into international rugby, and I'm sure we'll learn from it. This could be what we needed to really be able to kick on over the remainder of the tournament. I still believe that we can go pretty far in the cup if we play the game we know we can, plus a little bit of luck of course."

The result leaves Bykrestan in 5th place in Group C, with only the bonus point they picked up as a consequence of losing by seven points or less keeping them from propping up the table. One slither of hope for the Falcons, however, is that their next fixture is at the Glasshouse in Waitako against bottom side Kaedwen, who were thumped 28-12 by Vaguzia in one of the fixtures following the opening game. Bover has stated that the Falcons are ready for their upcoming battle and are ready to do whatever they can (within legal limits, we presume) to get the win.

Stay tuned to BBS for more updates from the Rugby World Cup!

SPORTS REPORT: FALCONS WIN, BUT SISKO TURNS SOUR
Bykrestan overcome Kaedwen 28-15 while horror crash overshadows Sisko Grand Prix

Posted Image
Tomàs: "It's a real shame whenever something like this happens, it's always heartbreaking to see a fellow pro in such a bad way"

The past few days have been good ones for Bykrestani sport, with Bykrestan beating Kaedwen 28-15 at the Glasshouse on Matchday 3 of the Rugby World Cup, however a great race for Magpie Racing, in which Enric Tomàs and Àlex Andreu finished 3rd and 4th respectively, was overshadowed by a terrible accident involving defending champion Megan Harrison in Qualifying.

Tomàs slips to 4th in the drivers' rankings despite finishing 3rd, owing to Z Kennedy taking the chequered flag. He now sits on 80 points, two ahead of Tomàs on 78. Meanwhile, Andreu jumps up to 8th place in the Drivers' Championship, now lying on 21 points. These results mean Magpie Racing maintains 3rd place in the Constructors' Championship, with a healthy 33 point lead over their nearest challengers, the Chiyoko Motorsports Division, but they still have a lot of work to do if they are to catch Riviere Corporation Racing and Tifosi. This pales into insignificance though, with the awful events of qualifying putting a major downer on proceedings.

Reigning Formula Mundus champion Megan Harrison of Riviere Corporation Racing was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following an awful crash during qualifying. Magpie Racing announced that for the rest of the season, the two racing vehicles will carry the message "Stay strong Megan" on each side of the driver's compartment. Enric Tomàs said "it's the least we could do to show our support for Megan and her family at what I'm sure is a difficult time for them. It's a real shame whenever something like this happens, it's always heartbreaking to see a fellow pro in such a bad way." Àlex Andreu, with similar sentiments, said "I really hope that Megan can pull through this. She's a role model for so many drivers and fans here and we hope she can make a return as soon as possible. Obviously the season will continue but it'll just feel a bit wrong, a bit strange without Megan here."

Meanwhile, on the bright side, Bykrestan claimed her first victory of the Rugby World Cup, beating Kaedwen 28-15 at the Glasshouse, gaining a bonus point as they scored four tries, which were all converted. Enrico Rosario and Ferran Rey got one each, meanwhile Jaumet Martí bagged a brace, with Eloi Agramunt converting all four. Speaking to the press after the match, Guifré Bover, with a beaming smile, exclaimed "I kept saying that if we played the game we know we can play, and if we learned lessons from the opening match, things would start going our way. I'm glad that, today at least, it has panned out that way. The lads were fantastic today and to get the bonus point is the icing on the cake. However, we can't get carried away. We need to remain focused on the next match, as usual, and carry the momentum from this match to give us that little extra edge."

Next up for the Falcons is one of the most difficult fixtures on the list - a showdown with the high-flying Hawks of Vaguzia at the Ngathi Rotunga. That will certainly be one to watch, so make sure to stay tuned to BBS for all your RWC coverage!

FALCONS CLIP THE HAWKS' WINGS
Bykrestan upset the odds at the Ngathi Rotunga to beat Vaguzia 21-18

Jaumet Martí continued his fine form, scoring the winning try against Vaguzia

The Falcons' improvement in the Rugby World Cup continued today with their most impressive result to date - a battling 21-18 victory over Vaguzia's Hawks at the Ngathi Rotunga in Rothakana.

Bykrestan actually got the first try, successfully converting it to put themselves 7-0 up. However, the Hawks soon rallied and raced into a 15-7 lead through two tries (one converted, one not) and a penalty before half time. After the restart, though, the Falcons came out with renewed energy and desire, scoring three penalties to put them on 16 points. The Hawks scored another penalty soon afterwards to put them 18-16 ahead, but with only a couple of minutes left on the clock, the man in form, Jaumet Martí, stormed forward through Vaguzia's back line to score what would turn out to be the winning try, sending the travelling Bykrestani contingent into absolute ecstasy.

Guifré Bover was very upbeat following the match. "It's a fantastic result for us," he said, "I'm glad that once again we've been able to execute our gameplan and that we've carried the momentum from the victory against Kaedwen into this match. We definitely needed it. The Hawks are one of the best teams in world rugby at the moment, so to cause an upset against them is something really rather special. I'm sure we've made a lot of people back in Bykrestan very happy, and I wouldn't blame the fans here in the Commonwealth of the Iwi for celebrating long into the night - I only hope the pubs of Rothakana can meet the demand for alcohol tonight!"

The victory means Bykrestan stay 3rd in Group C, , but the Falcons now have a much healthier lead over 4th-placed Kaitaine, who lie on 4 points, six points behind Bykrestan's ten. Additionally, the Falcons are now level on points with Vaguzia - if they'd won by a larger margin they could've moved up into 2nd place in the group but Vaguzia's bonus point from this match means they hold onto that spot for the time being. Nevertheless, today will be a day long remembered by Bykrestani rugby fans, and a night worth celebrating.

Up next for Bykrestan are the side propping up the rest of Group C at the moment, Orania, at the Jonah Rotunga. Bover has warned against complacency but many are expectant of victory. Stay tuned to BBS for coverage of the match!

IT'S A KNOCKOUT!
Falcons qualify for next stage of Rugby World Cup after bonus point win over Orania

Bykrestanis watching a beamback of the match in Leocaster celebrate at the final whistle

Another momentous day in Bykrestani sporting history passed earlier this week, with the Falcons claiming a 28-18 bonus point win over Orania at the Jonah Rotunga to secure their place in the knockout rounds of the Rugby World Cup.

Bykrestanis watching the match both in the Iwi and at home were in fine spirits, with the noise in the Jonah Rotunga deafening at some points, as well as huge roars going up in the cities of Bykrestan as each try was scored and subsequently converted. Once again, Jaumet Martí was on fire, scoring two tries, along with Ferran Rey and Hèctor Bosch. Eloi Agramunt's howitzer of a right foot ensured that the conversions of these tries were but a formality. This match marks the second occasion in the group stage where the Falcons have earned a bonus point by scoring four converted tries, and Bykrestan have only failed to pick up a bonus point once out of their four games, when they defeated Vaguzia 21-18. The Falcons currently lie 2nd in Group C and have a chance of winning the group if the Iwi fail to beat Vaguzia.

After the match, a beaming Guifré Bover addressed the press on various subjects, such as qualification for the knockouts and the push for top spot in the group. "We've done so well to qualify for the next stage of the tournament," he said, "ever since the opening day defeat to the hosts we've learned valuable lessons and carried forward our momentum really effectively. I don't think many people gave us much of a chance at the start of the tournament, people may have wrote us off before the matches against the Iwi and Vaguzia, but on every occasion I think we've proved the doubters wrong. Already we're performing above initial expectations and now the focus is on seeing how far we can go. Again, we're taking things one game at a time but as I've said before, if we play our game and get a bit of luck, then we can continue to confound the critics and go far in this competition. We've got the look of a really good side right now and hopefully we can keep improving even after the Rugby World Cup."

The final fixture takes the Falcons back to the Glasshouse to face Kaitaine, who currently sit 4th in the group and are desperate for a win to secure a place of their own in the knockout stages. However, despite concerns that Bykrestan might take their foot off the gas after having qualified for the knockouts, Bover has assured fans and the media alike that the Falcons will not be going into this match complacent. "Just because we've qualified for the next stage and they haven't, that doesn't just mean we're going to kick back and relax and let Kaitaine walk into the knockouts," he said, "a place in the knockouts needs to be earned. Anything is possible, of course, so we're trying to make sure we're at our very best for the final group match. It should be a great game of rugby."

Stay tuned to BBS for coverage of the final Group C fixtures and continued reports from the Rugby World Cup!

TOMÀS CONTINUES TITLE CHARGE
Magpie Racing star earns two consecutive 2nd place finishes to close the gap in the Drivers' Championship

Tomàs gets a good soaking at the end of the Royali Ornati Grand Prix of Saburi

Enric Tomàs has continued his fine form in Magpie Racing's inaugural season in Formula Mundus, earning two consecutive 2nd place finishes in Ametisina and Vaguzia.

Tomàs' most recent podium finish put him on 114 points for the season so far, only 8 points and one place behind current Drivers' Championship leader Quintus Varusi. Magpie Racing still remain 3rd in the Constructors' Championship, mainly thanks to multiple podium finishes from Tomàs as well as some respectable finishes for Àlex Andreu, who finished 6th and 12th in the past two races, meaning he now lies 9th in the Drivers' Championship with 29 points. Varusi walked away with the chequered flag with ease in Ametisina, with Tomàs finishing nearly 20 seconds behind, but it was a more closely-fought affair in Saburi, with Tomàs only just missing out on victory by just under four seconds. It was a valiant effort, with some aggressive but fair driving from Tomàs, but ultimately Rytol-EMAC's Sam Halliday had the rub of the green and ended up claiming the win.

Addressing the clamouring press after the race, Tomàs said "I'm disappointed not to have won today, but I suppose it just wasn't to be today. Congratulations to Sam for making it an entertaining race, just a shame he wouldn't let me past during those last few laps! Even though we didn't win today, we got another podium finish - the team has been improving throughout this season and I really hope we can carry this on over the rest of the Race Calendar, particularly when we race on home tarmac in Bykrestan. Hopefully Àl can start joining me on the podium soon too!" When quizzed on whether he could win the Drivers' Championship, he replied "anything's possible. I'm not going to predict anything in case I jinx it, but I'll certainly be doing all I can to keep picking up the points and keep towards the top end of the rankings."

Next up for the Magpie Racing pair is the Grand Prix Ura-Rokkō in Himeyama. Naturally, BBS will have coverage of the event and will be providing a post-race report, as has become customary. Watch this space!
