![]() ![]() Boer fruit farmers face losses of 100 million rand due to frost ![]() The total cost of the frost in late April that damaged fruit farms across Vertfort-Vanderkloof could be more than 100 million Rand, according to the latest estimations. And that doesn’t even include the damage caused to budding vines in Vertfort-Vanderkloof's vineyards, which was also considerable. There is an estimation that apple orchards suffered 42 million rand worth of damage. Cherry producers will be 25 million rand out of pocket with this year’s harvest predicted to be only a quarter of its normal size. Apples, pears and plums are also badly affected, while producers of apricots are likely to see their harvest reduced by half. Berries and vegetables are less affected, and there are big regional differences – for example apple orchards in central Vertfort-Vanderkloof were damaged far more than those in the southern areas. The estimated 100 million rand doesn’t include potential losses incurred by commercial third parties or related industries, such as distillers. Consumers will notice little difference in the availability of fruits, however, with imports making up the drop in domestic produce. As for vines, it’s too early to say exactly how much producers will be out of pocket, however the damage caused by what one official called the “frost of the century” was considerable in many parts of the country. More than a third of the country’s vines are thought to be affected, with some vineyards suffering significant damage to the majority of their vines. ![]() ![]() Underwood Presidential couple to Establish Ties with various foreign nations ![]() President Francis J. Underwood (left) with First Lady & Vice President Claire Underwood (right) Vertfort-Vanderkloof has reached out to fellow foreign nations, especially republics, in Mundus in hopes of bringing them closer together. The Honorable Underwood Presidential Couple had expressed the desire to "...seek cooperative relationships with the nations of Mundus, especially the few and far between Republic states." in a press conference earlier this week. They have since taken action and have reached out to various nations, someof whom have previously been on good terms with the Boer Federal Republic. The Underwoods also confirmed that many more of Mundus's foreign nations will soon be in contact with Vertfort-Vanderkloof too according to White House Press Secretary Seth Wright. Updates on these talks will be provided as they become available. ![]() ![]() Pro-Radical liberals staging large protest directly outside the White House! ![]() Pro-radical liberals protesting right outside the White House following the ongoing V.V-foreign diplomatic talks A sea of protesters swarmed in front of the White House on Sunday to voice displeasure with the Underwood Presidential couple's stance on numerous policies, including climate change, decreased regulations and lowering of taxes amidst V.V-foreign talks, and demand that they rethink plans to maintain the domestic policies backed by a few UPP predecessors. The People's United Progressive March, funded by the United Progressive Party (obviosuly, duh), coincides with the Underwoods' 100th day in office, the end of the traditional "honeymoon" period for a new president and vice president respectively. As temperatures rose above 90F under hazy skies in the nation's capital, tens of thousands of people marched from the grounds of the V.V. Capitol and stopped right outside the White House en route to the Venteskroon Monument for a rally. While a good-natured mood prevailed and there were no signs of violence, many demonstrators said they were angered by the prospect of the Underwoods carrying through on their vow to roll back protections put in place by their UPP predecessors. "We're going to rise up and let them know that we're sick and tired of seeing our children die of asthma," said Rev Leo Woodberry of, a local Venteskroon resident, who spoke during a press conference before the march. "We're sick and tired of seeing people with cancer because of coal ash ponds. We're sick and tired of seeing sea level rise. We're tired and sick that everything from the welfare to education are dismantled. We're sick and tired that the Underwoods favor big corporations and banks filled with backward, conservative swine and We're sick and tired of the Underwoods dealing with homophobic, sexist and racist foreigners!" Myron Ebell, a libertarian think tank at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, said the protest would have little impact on the administration. "The real decisions are made in this country in elections, and we have now a president, a vice president and a House and a Senate that are determined to pursue a pro-V.V agenda, all in the interest for the citizens in this country" he said by telephone. "To be brutally honest, these types of folks are mentally deranged in their truest forms and absolutely have no frickin' idea on what they're ranting about. The Underwood administration have already disclosed the reasonings for their policy agenda as well as they've been published on the White House website, but I guess they're lazy to go and find it out by themselves. Also...a sane and reasonable person would understand that the Morelanders and Achkaerienese are perfect examples of non-homophobic, sexist and racist foreigners, am I right? That applies as well to the other group of nations that the Underwood administration is more than eager to deal with" he explained further. Underwood representatives had no immediate comment on the protest as well as the Underwoods themselves. ![]() ![]() Underwood marks Memorial Day with Arlington visit ![]() President Francis J. Underwood honors fallen at Arlington After laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Underwood spoke in remembrance of fallen soldiers and respect for their families, alongside members of the military and his administration, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of Defense Jacqueline A. Sharp, a former V.V marine. "We only hope that every day we can prove worthy, not only of their sacrifice and service, but of the sacrifice made by the families and loved ones they left behind," Underwood said."To every Gold Star family: God is with you, and your loved ones are with him. I believe that God has a special place in heaven for those who laid down their lives so that others may live free." Underwood called on Boers to look into the eyes of people who had lost loved ones in the military and thank them for their sacrifice. "Every time you see the sun rise over this blessed land, please know your brave sons and daughters pushed away the knife and delivered for us all that great and glorious dawn," Underwood said. Underwood's remarks at the wreath-laying ceremony were his first comments in public since returning to the Kingdom of Prathaya from trip abroad. Underwood sent out several tweets Monday morning in advance of his visit, including: "Honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Vertfort-Vanderkloof. Underwood first placed a wreath in Arlington at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier a day ahead of his inauguration. At the time, he did so alongside First Lady and Vice President Claire Underwood, who joined her husband at the ceremonies Monday morning. Earlier Monday, Vice President Underwood, and Veterans' Affairs Secretary Matthew Santos spoke at the kickoff of a bike race for Project Hero, an organization for veterans and first responders. "It is Memorial Day 2017," VP. Underwood said. "Their duty was to serve. Our duty is to remember." Edited by Frank Underwood, 29th May 2017 - 06:48 PM.
