![]() OOC - Information on venues etc http://independentorder.net/single/?p=10056014&t=30280629 The Iwi is a small nation with just two international airports, as such it was clearly going to be a busy day the day the teams arrived. Each had been allocated a slot, a terminal and an arrival lounge. As the teams entered along with their media entourage and coaching staff they were faced with a horde of teenagers, each dressed in traditional dress. The tallest boy, a cloak made out of pathes made up on the national flags of the teams held a club levelled at the squads captains and with a shriek began the Powhiri [1] "Haere mai, nau mai, e ngā iwi e Haere mai, nau mai, e ngā iwi e HAERE MAI, haere mai, E NGā IWI, HAERE MAI Mauria mai Te aroha ki te marae e. KIA ORA Rā, kia ora rā, KI NGā OPE TūāRANGI Kua eke nei Ki tōu marae, e te iwi e. KARANGA Rā, karanga rā, KI NGā OPE - E TAU NEI Kua eke nei Ki tōu marae, e te iwi e. Haere mai, nau mai, e ngā iwi e Haere mai, nau mai, e ngā iwi e Kia ora rā." Translation A school girl had discreetly positioned themselves behind the captain speaking just loud enough for him to hear above the sounds of the chanting schoolboys who carried out symbolic movements with the words. The final word song the leader placed a fern leaf at the feet of the captain who under instructions from his young adviser picked it up and handed it back. The boys cheered and the leader pulled the captain close, noses touching, in some cases the student had to stand on tip toes, a traditional touching of noses conducted the cloak was removed and wrapped around the captain as girls from the local school came forward and presented garlands made of ferns to the rest of the entourage. With twenty odd teams welcomed many a student had already been given the chance to meet their idols. That evening at the Iwi Rotunga stadium in Hunters Bay fans making their way into the stadium were each given a flashing bracelet. As they took their seats a traditional choir was singing various songs ranging from traditional maori folk songs to covers of modern classics. At the appointed time King Piripi arrived, dressed of course in his Iwi rugby shirt. He made his way onto the pitch. "At this time we would welcome you to the Iwi. You will find us Maori a rather excitable and hospitable bunch. You will also find we're sticklers for our cultural traditions. We are proud to host this event not just for our love of sport, but also for a chance to welcome you into our Iwi. That word...Iwi...it means tribe, or family, and while you are all here we would like you to consider yourself part of our Iwi. You will also no doubt of all experienced the traditional welcoming ceremony by now. I would ask that now you are part of our Iwi you join us in welcoming the World Cup." For the next few minutes the school children from earlier made their way down the stadium aisles until the arena was literally flooded with them. On the big screens a video began to play, "Hello My name is Eila Herao, I'm a 14 year old who won a competition to produce the official World Cup Haka, it will be used to welcome the world cup here to our nation." With that the video began a short tuitional video of this new Haka with the students in the arena encouraging the visitors to join in. After much laughter as attempts were shown on the screens next to the actions the stadium went dark. As the lights came back up on the pitch the stands remained in darkness and the bracelets began flashing. The field was now filled with hundreds of soldiers from the Iwi, each dressed not in combats but in traditional costume. A series of drum clashes signalled the time to start and Eila Herao appeared out of the tunnel followed by the captains of the various sides. As soon as the spotlight picked him up the Haka began. "Let me go back to my first gasp of breath Let my life force return to the earth It is the game of rugby that thunders now And it is my time! It is my moment! The passion ignites! This defines us all And it is my time! It is my moment! The anticipation explodes! Feel the power Our hopes ascend Our dreams emerge To be placed on high Golden Cup! A champion emerges Glory to the victor Respect to all" With that the field was cleared and it was time to begin.
Current Standings Stadium information can be found in the successful bid found Here Fixture List [1] The All Blacks Haka is essentially a Powhiri, a welcome but in the form of a challenge [2] A nation would be considered an Iwi =Tribe [3] Meeting ground [4] Meeting Ground |

Match Day One Results Group A Dijel 24-15 Himeyama (at Ngathi Rotunga) Dartfordia 33-9 Nueva Ardia (at the Glasshouse) - bonus point win for Dartfordia Foxtrove 15-7 Vafleon (at the Marae) Group C Iwi 25-18 Bykrestan (at Iwi Rotunga – First Game of Tournament) - bonus point for Bykrestan Vaguzia 28-12 Kaedwen (at Jonah Rotunga) - bonus point win for Vaguzia Orania 15-18 Kaitaine (at the Homestead) - bonus point for Orania Current Standings Bonus Point explanation (forgot about this sorry) Under normal circumstances a win in this tournament is worth four points and a defeat is zero with a draw being one. However we do have bonus points in play which means the following: A team receives an extra point if they get a score of 28 or more points - this is the equivalent of four converted tries. A team receives a bonus point if they lose by seven or fewer points - i.e. less than a converted try. Edited by Achkaerin, 28th July 2017 - 10:17 PM.

Match Day Seven Results Group A Dijel 21-18 Dartfordia (at Ngathi Rotunga) Dartfordia bonus point Nueva Ardia 28-12 Vafleon (at the Marae) - Nueva Ardia bonus point Foxtrove 15-24 Himeyama (at the Homestead) Himeyama qualify for the last sixteen. If Dijel avoid defeat or earn at minimum a losing bonus point against Nueva Ardia then they will win Group A, if Dijel lose without achieving a bonus point then a significant bonus point victory for Himeyama will win them the group. A Dijel victory will mean the qualification of Dartfordia and Foxtrove, who otherwise only need to win (Foxtrove) or take a losing bonus point (Dartfordia) Group C Iwi 28-15 Kaedwen (at the Glasshouse) - Iwi bonus point Bykrestan 28-18 Orania (at Jonah Rotunga) - Bykrestan bonus point Vaguzia 24-12 Kaitaine (at Iwi Rotunga) Iwi, Bykrestan and Vaguzia qualify for the last sixteen. If the Iwi win their last game they win the group, if Vaguzia beat the Iwi then a Bykrestan win will see them win the group. if Bykrestan lose then a bonus point win for Vaguzia will see them take the group. Fourth place can still go anywhere between the remaining three, Kaitaine and Kaedwen just have to try and win their games but if neither do and Orania take a bonus point win then it will be Orania in the last sixteen. Match Day Eight Results Group B East Moreland 24-18 Nya Aland (at Ngathi Rotunga) - Nya Aland bonus point Hygelac 21-15 Selurong (at the Homestead) - Selurong bonus point Ui Cenneslaig 24-15 Zimalia (at Jonah Rotunga) Nya Aland qualify for the last sixteen. Zimalia and Hygelac will on paper play for the final group qualifying spot, though a draw however improbable opens the door for Selurong if they can achieve a bonus point win over Nya Aland. Top spot in the group will be determined in the East Moreland v Ui Cenneslaig match. Group D Achkaerin 25-12 Cantabria (at Iwi Rotunga) Lodja 28-15 Toshikawa (at the Glasshouse) - Lodja bonus point Mercia 21-9 Tokulel (at the Marae) Achkaerin, Mercia and Lodja qualify for the last sixteen. Top spot in the group will be decided in Achkaerin v Mercia on the last day, the fourth spot in the group is between the remaining three teams, Tokulel and Cantabria simply have to better the others result though the points difference does favor Cantabria. It's not all over for Toshikawa either a win for them and a defeat for Tokulel will see Toshikawa advance to the last sixteen. Current Standings |
