Haabyo-Kai Faces New Challenges From Morris Ice Shelf![]() Water levels have been slowly rising in Haabyo-Kai in the past decades to a noticeable degree. As the capital city was initially built on water and a few islets, new ordinances allowed the draining of the water through controlling its flow from Lake Halkoyoli with intricate levy systems, however unusually heavy rain this summer followed by the Morris Shelf breaking off, which rose the levels of water up to 1 meter, has created a panic to many residents living in the historical districts of Haabyo-Kai Most areas of the Akanich Isles went unchanged, however, this sudden rise has affected Haabyo-Kai drastically. To understand, it's important to know how Haabyo-Kai was constructed. The city was built atop wetlands, with a wide canal-like avenue artificially dug to lead to the wetlands and Lake Halkoyoli. It was designed as a waterborn city, easily defensible from any potential attacks from budding imperialist of the time. It was also built at the mouth of the Yellow Vale(valley), famous for it's fields of Calta(Marigold) flowers. This valley was a central trade point, holding most valuable resources and being the most arable and friendly terrain to navigate. The founding of Haabyo-Kai spurred growth across the nation, however the environmental impacts of continuous expansion and modification are being felt today, most notably rising water levels due to 1. Suspected rising temperatures and 2. The cutting down of Yellow Vale forest, causing floods and sudden rising water levels due to heavy rain. The Morris Ice Shelf has only made it worse these days, as water levels have suddenly rising 1m in the past few days. "Haabyo-Kai was built around ancient ruins, many of these buildings were used in the early days of running the city." Says historian, Jevan Kalmar, as he tours an ancient mausoleum of the Kythrali Sealords. It's floors covered in water at least ankle height. "Many historical buildings will be ruined if something isn't done." Meanwhile, resident's of the lower Cantons panic as well. "We always lived on the water." Says anonymous Mother of 2. "The main way of transportation has been on boat, the waterways are our streets. However, the sidewalks are beginning to be flooded all to frequently and that Ice is making it much worse, so i'm told." The Revered Speaker, Yakin, has declared this to be an immediate issue, saying "While posing no immediate danger, rising levels of water in our beloved capital are growing to be permanent and we need to find a long term solution to this long term problem" the government has already issued a new controlled levee system as well as an initiative for farmers and other businesses to plant new trees or leave existing ones on their land by lending tax cuts. Large private property owners are given the same too. Meanwhile, the government is also raising the water foundations of many Cantons, and developing a new waterway public transportation program. However, authorities assure that the levee's will hold most water back but most Akanichese environmental scientist agree: Haabyo-Kai may live on as a venerable city, but it will float entirely on the water in a distant future. Many private companies like Omnigrow have developed large, floating terraces that double as homes or apartments. Many are rest assured though, that the whole of the Akanich Isles are safe, with towered rocky coast and consistent volcanic activity, seeming to lift the islands. Other News East Harbour National wins the final in Akaball finals. Fan's rejoice, the last time East Harbour national won a championship was in 1899, the first year the Akaball League was formed. Sightings of flying men are rumored in Laokenet City, "Nothing to see here." the National Air Service tweeted jokingly. This has sparked outcry among many conspiracy theorist, jump starting a campaign in belief the government is withholding information about extraterrestrial life called 'Show me the Aliens'. A nude Rokkenjiman man was seen swimming in the waterways of Haabyo-Kai, nearly ran over by resident boat goers. When arrested, after flipping through the streets performing various theatrical martial arts moves, he asked "I thought this was a free country?" Many residents have backed the man, one woman boast "This is a free country and if i want to be naked I WILL." she said, before ripping her bra off. Both the videos have caused a frenzy on social media and upstarted the nudist movement again. Edited by Gadshack, 12th August 2017 - 10:35 PM.
