The regional map can be found here. I'll keep it up to date as much as possible but please keep in mind that editing the required files takes time and effort and isn't necessarily a bag of fun. Please be considerate. I don't really like regulating roleplay, certainly not on the scale of the absolute goddamn wall of text I'm about to throw at you, but from years of experience I know it's necessary to have a significant number of ground rules to ensure we all live in harmony, and so that roleplay is considered "fair". So here goes. Make sure you read it. They're long, and they can be draconian in places, but I guarantee you that you will have more fun for them being here. Sorry. We require you to make six roleplay posts before we process your application. It's not intended as a slight against you; it's just to cut down on the number of people who take a map plot and then go inactive. Apply for a map spot here first anyway- we'll know to process it when we know that you're active. ![]() As soon as you've lodged your application, you can start roleplaying- don't wait for me to update it because that could be more than a week away. Just don't assume you'll get the territories that you asked for. If you double checked you should be fine. If you're new and not sure where to start in roleplay, jump into the newest event- they're free for everyone to participate in, and you can get rewards for high quality participation. ![]() • Base figures for your nation, so we have some sense of reasonable data, will be taken from NSTracker. However, there will be three caps in place; • Nations with a defense budget expenditure of 5% or greater will have their expenditure capped at 5%; • Nations with a defense budget expenditure of 2% or less will have their expenditure automatically raised to 2% (otherwise some nations are stuck without a military, which sucks); • Nations with a Gross Domestic Product Per Capita of $35,000 or more will be capped at $35,000; • Nations with a Gross Domestic Product Per Capita of $10,000 or less will have this figure automatically raised to $10,000 (otherwise some nations are stuck with appallingly bad economies, which also sucks). Yes, these are flat out draconian, but if we don't institute them, the entire roleplay world will be revolving around an arms race between the 2 or 3 biggest militaristic corporate owned hell holes in the game. This gets very old, very quickly. If we find that everyone is sitting at one of these caps, we may consider raising them, but don't count on it; they're set this way so that people can play nations that are anything other than oppressive industrial wastelands without fear of being squished. It allows a larger variety of artistic license, not less. • The final cap is population, which will have both a lower and an upper cap; a minimum of 50 million citizens, and a maximum of 500 million citizens. If you have less than 50 million citizens in your nation you are not barred from participating in the roleplay- nations with less than 50 million citizens may consider themselves to be automatically roleplaying with 50 million (they don't have to if they don't want to but the leg up is there). Nations with more than 500 million citizens may consider themselves automatically restricted to 500 million, and should round down their stats appropriately. These caps are also in place in order to make the game as new player accessible as possible- nobody likes joining a new roleplay and finding that they're about 1/200th of the size of the next smallest player. Under this system nobody will be more than 1/10th of the size of the largest nation, and nobody will be • The world is Modern Tech (MT). Nations from past techs are accepted (although not advised), but alternate tech, post modern tech or any form of future tech aren't going to be here. Do not bother attempting to claim you have technologies considered to be any of the above, because you will be laughed at. If you aren't sure whether or not your technology is Modern Tech, ask the game mod. • No godmodding. If you don't know what it is, look it up. Godmodding is the fastest way to make you the last popular nation in the room. • Similarly, if you are taking damage from another nation during warfare, be realistic about the damage that you're taking. You don't always have an ace up your sleeve. Your planes are not invulnerable to all conceivable radar. Your infantry are not super-soldiers. The quality of your military is not superior to any other player on the map. You can play it as inferior, but never superior, because unless otherwise specified you don't really know that. If this kind of thing gets absolutely out of hand, with everyone having the luck of the Irish and everyone with the best military in the world, and players are unwilling to co-operate, we will simply no longer allow players to determine the results of their own battles, and have the game master randomly generate them instead. • On the topic of having an ace up your sleeve, make sure ALL the cards are on the table. "Traps" are only funny for you. • There are no nuclear weapons. They are disproportionately destructive and make other players less likely to want to roleplay with people who might use them. • Similarly again, do not roleplay unclaimed territories on their behalf. Only the game master or someone the game master has appointed will do that. • We are trying to fit as many players onto the one map as possible; making a secondary map is an absolute ass of a job and we won't be expanding to another one unless we absolutely have to. Therefore, we intend to pack as many nations as possible into the existing one. While this is unlikely to have happen in early game, the game master will reserve the right to refuse a new or existing claim on the basis that your perfect plot is the equivalent of a car double parking over two perfectly reasonable plots (i.e there's 12 plots in a small section and you claim the 6 in the middle, cutting the remaining 6 in half on either side of your country). • On a similar vein of the above, please understand that if we run out of room and there are inactive nations that haven't declared that they planned to be away, and we have new players that want to join the map, we will remove the inactive nations and replace them with the new ones. • This world is completely independent and separate to all others across the NationStates world. This roleplay world is here to be new nation friendly. Golgotha, Adrastos, wherever you may have been before you were here, is an alternative reality. Do not attempt to transfer your 15 billion citizen nation to this world and consider it canon- your population will be automatically rounded down to 500 million anyway, and the game master reserves the right to refuse your entrance with that nation and require you to found a new one instead. Similarly, your territory on our game map is not a colony of your larger nation outside of here. You are physically incapable of bringing military or economic support from outside of this world. • It is true that plots are of varying size and shape. The general rule while subdividing them was that plots without direct ocean access (ocean, not lake) would be 2 to 3 times larger than plots with direct ocean access. All plots, regardless of where they are or how large they are, are considered to be of equal economic value. Roleplay how each territory is of economic worth to you at your own leisure, although I actually have an idea for the economy that I'll outline in the next few days. So tl;dr, don't complain that someone has the sweet spots. There are no "sweet spots". • Nations that have not claimed a plot on this map will not be permitted to partake in warfare. While I can't force anyone to claim land to have an economy, factbook, diplomatic ties, etc, you're obviously cheating yourself of material if you don't give yourself a physical location. • Stick to the spirit of these and any other rules that may be necessary to put into the roleplay. This isn't a competition, this isn't a game of Civilization either, regardless of parallels. Even in warfare you should be working out of context with the other player(s) to create an interesting story, not be trying to eliminate them for your implied pixel empire. If you are conspiring to eliminate another player from the game against their wishes, you are not an expanding empire, you are not an ideological warrior, and you are certainly not "just playing the game". You are a dick, who is and bad things will happen to you. At no point should any player be attempting to derive another player of their enjoyment. • Please note that this is not a legislative document underneath the regional government; the senate cannot amend it, and the courts will not try people who violate them, unless they somehow simultaneously violate a regional code of conduct. If you repeatedly and flagrantly violate the rules you will simply be removed from the game world and that will be that. • If you have any complaints to make of other players violating these rules or generally being a dick, you should contact the game master via forum PM. While there will be many times this isn't suitable (i.e. calling out a player on godmodding in a war against you), please avoid airing your issue in public if you can, because it can poison the atmosphere of the rest of the game. Understand that we will be doing our best to solve these issues, and public confrontation makes it harder to solve the issue 99.99% of the time. Make sure you have read the above rules, and any other listed rules before you apply for a plot of land. Not knowing the rules is not an excuse, because you read them before you even applied for a plot of land! On top of this, I highly recommend you read The nation roleplay guides. There's probably about 50 of them buried under various links, but I guarantee they will improve the quality of your roleplaying, and the quality of your experience in our roleplay world. --- Now that we have all this out of the way; we'll get to the stuff that you actually want to see. If anything else ever needs to be added there'll be an announcement to let everyone know of the changes. Please, once again, read the following, related specifically to claiming in this topic; • Nations must use the exact form, fill it out correctly, and then post it in this topic to have their claim processed. • Nations may claim a maximum of 6 provinces upon entering the map. I would personally suggest at least one coastal and one non coastal territory, but you can really claim whatever logical combination of 6 you want. You can also claim less than 6 if you want. • No extra claims on top of this initial 6 will be processed at this time. There WILL be chances to expand; I have in my mind a mechanism of rewards for participating in events, for which an extra territory will be a reward. But don't expect to receive it often, and expect to have to actually roleplay your way into the new territory. • Claims will be processed in the order they are received. Therefore if two players claim the same plot, it will be awarded to the first player to claim it. The map doesn't update as often as I wish I could update it- so please make sure nobody else has a pending application claiming what you want to claim.
Fill this out and post in this topic, and we'll have ourselves a roleplay! Edited by Avakael, 14th March 2014 - 11:48 PM.
