Imperial Dispatch

Attention nations of Ardia, hear my proclamation!

I am Beatrice li Rokkenjima, Empress of Neo Rokkenjima and your only ruler! Your kings, queens, presidents and premiers have knelt before me. As a result of this I am in control of both the power of their armies and their missiles, not even your resistance movements have the strength to oppose me now. If anyone dares to resist my supreme authority they shall know the devastating powers in my possession!

Those who could challenge my military rule no longer exist. Yes, from this day, from this moment forward, Ardia belongs to me!

Beatrice li Rokkenjima commands you...obey me subjects, obey me Ardia!

"Lady Beatrice...." Lady Evangeline uttered, "I believe you released the wrong dispatch." "Oh alright, we'll do this your way," Beatrice replied, clearly disappointed.

Imperial Dispatch

Greetings,

As Empress of the First Empire of Neo Rokkenjima allow me to announce the success of the Imperialists over the Republicans. For over a century republicanism has seen Rokkenjima stall, never realizing the full capacity of her potential. Until now Rokkenjima has been a nation in decay, a naval power in severe decline which could barely defend herself, a state of affairs which allowed pirates to lay waste to domestic and foreign shipping. Today I proclaim an end to that era and the dawn of a new era, that of the First Empire of Neo Rokkenjima.

Civil wars are never civil of course, pockets of Republican resistance remain in Arovium though I expect them to either surrender or die within the month. Pressing on...

Those naval vessels left floating (4 destroyers, 8 frigates, 3 nuclear-powered submarines, and two outdated battleships) are in need of refit and modernization. I seek bids for the completion of this work, and am willing to make the appropriate payments to see our fleet return to a sea-worthy state. Should the work done be of exceptional quality the First Empire will consider ordering newer vessels, planes and other military assets as time passes.

Neo Rokkenjima is prepared to accept diplomats and ambassadors to discuss the establishment of ties between our neighbours, near or far, and looks forward to casting off the isolation which the Federal Republic imposed upon our nation. A dinner is to be held in one week, all foreign dignitaries (and perhaps those in businesses of interest to a nation rebuilding) may join me at my home, Pyrena Castle. I assure you it will be well worth your effort.

That is all;

Lady Beatrice

Most of our business has already been discussed, but I would like for a representative of Bechstein to be present at this event. Mr. Klepper, a veteran of the 21st Bechstein-Steinway war, will be our chosen man to partake in this event.

President C.A. Gläuden,

Indeed, much of our business has been discussed privately as it stands. I look forward to personally greeting Mr. Klepper upon his arrival in Neo Rokkenjima. Please make arrangements for him to travel by air to Pyrettanian International Airport one week from now and I shall have land transportation to the castle prepared from that point. I do hope Mr. Klepper enjoys dancing, as there will be much of that as well!

Empress Beatrice I

(Also, what timeframe are we going from? I figured in a day or so we could start the dinner/ball proper, so knowing what everyone considers 'a week' would be helpful!)

Lady Beatrice looks forward to the arrival of the representatives from Kazarovia. Upon receipt of an ETA we shall have guest rooms in Pyrena Castle prepared for the use of your representatives. The dinner and ball are expected to last for a two-day period, and these rooms will stand ready for the duration of the festivities. Lady Beatrice herself will be meeting with each representative to discuss all present matters.

More information will be forwarded to the relevant officials concerning the type and status of the current Neo Rokkenjiman Navy and Air Force as to provide for more accurate figures.

The Empress is interested in the opening of an embassy in Myracium. Upon completion of activities in Pyrettania (Pyrena Castle sits atop a hill overlooking the capital) a delegate from the Empress's most trusted diplomatic team, along with high-level detachments from the Imperial Army, Navy and Air Force will travel to Myracium for the oversight of works.

Imperial Officers, Diplomatic Envoys and officers of both are held to a high standard of discipline. The Empress offers her personal assurances that no such attempts shall take place.

A Communiqué from the Communist Quinntopia Foreign Affairs Commissariat

Esteemed Empress Beatrice,

The People's Paradise of Communist Quinntopia wishes to express its interest in aiding the First Empire of Neo Rokkenjima to modernise its naval fleet. In order to establish ties and negotiate a fee for the order of Quinntopian-made naval vessels, the People's Paradise shall be sending three representatives:
  • I, Andrei Petnov, Chief Commissar of the Foreign Affairs Commissariat
  • Ivan Toralo, Chief Commissar of the War Commissariat
  • Tørsten Sikarov, Chief Commissar of the Trade Commissariat

They shall be arriving at Pyrettanian International Airport by airship ASAP. The People's Paradise wishes to tell you in advance that it hopes to negotiate the sale of one (1) Quinntopia Class Battleship - the People's Revolutionary Navy only has two of these "super battleships" at its disposal. This one is the only other one of these ships in existence. She boasts some of the finest naval artillery in the Independent Order - 10 20'' guns on 5 turrets (two guns to a turret, if you want us to do the maths), with an array of smaller artillery and AA weapons honeycombing the rest of the ship. Her armour also rivals that of the super battleships Yamato and Musashi of the Imperial Japanese Navy in WWII. Despite all her size, armour and power, though, her immense weight means she can only reach a top speed of 21 knots. Nevertheless, she is still a formidable force to be reckoned with.

However, it will be shall be you, most esteemed Empress Beatrice, who makes the final decision, and hope that our talks will end in a positive manner, and with a new agreement between our nations.

Yours,

Andrei Petnov
Chief Commissar of the Foreign Affairs Commissariat

Andrei Pentov,

The First Empire welcomes your interest greatly. Your representatives shall be greeted by one of the Seven Stakes, Asmodeus of Lust, upon their arrival in Neo Rokkenjima. Thus far the Empress has noted her interest in the Quinntopia Class Battleship, and she looks forward to joining our discussions personally.

Neo Rokkenjima welcomes the opportunities our nations may engage in the future, and this present engagement may lead to.

We await your arrival!

Most Esteemed Empress,

The King of Dartfordia has expressed an interest in establishing firm diplomatic ties with the Empire of Neo Rokkenjima. The King has experienced first-hand the devastation of civil war, with His Majesty's nation being illegally divided by communist forces in the north of His Majesty's Kingdom. His Majesty seeks the establishment of a Dartfordian High Commission within your most glorious empire, in return for the establishment of a Neo Rokkenjiman High Commission in Dartfordia.

To formally represent the Kingdom of Dartfordia, His Majesty is sending the following representatives to be present for the event:
- His Royal Highness the Prince Alexander, heir apparent to the throne
- His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Independent Order Affairs
- His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Trade and Industry

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry will reveal to you personally, Most Esteemed Empress, proposals for a new Albion-class generation of ships.

Yours,

Sophie Harrison,

The Empress was pleased upon receipt of this message and welcomes Dartfordian interest in establishing ties between our nations. We have been blessed that damage has been minimal to our Empire's most valued monuments, buildings and other such heritage sites, with peace now reigning in the eastern majority of the Empire. It is our concern that the Republicans will stir up support against our young Empire, plunge Ecskana into conflict, and unnecessarily harm or kill yet more of our people. We share the tragedies of having seen civil war, and a pain which the land itself will bear for generations.

The Empress welcomes the establishment of a Dartfordian High Commission within Neo Rokkenjima and shall prepare for the establishment of the Neo Rokkenjiman High Commission in the coming weeks.

Lady Beatrice looks forward to the arrival of the delegation from Dartfordia and will make all proper arrangements for quarters for the duration of their stay. She looks forward to the proposals the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry is to reveal. It is of utmost importance to restore, and expand, the Navy which the Republicans nearly let rust into the oceans.

Respectfully yours,

Katherine Albright

Also, I suppose foreign dignitaries and guests could start arriving tomorrow (Saturday) evening and we can get things started there. The already proposed topics of discussion can be addressed, as well as the situation regarding Julianos Sanders. Or the arrivals could begin tonight (Friday) and we can continue with the discussions from there. Either way, I'm ready to begin. ^_^

Secretary of State Tewelde,

Czar Casso and Bayougarou legislature has recognized Neo Rokkenjiman's decree. Through open discussion, regarding Neo Rokkenjiman's navy, they have decided to propose an open ended alliance to regulate and maintain the Gulf of Shaw. Bayougarou naval forces are very capable of controlling the gulf,(as seen on Bayougarou's overview). However, being that Neo Rokkenjiman is in close proximity to the gulf we offer free commerce through the Gulf of Shaw, both by Rokkenjimian Navy and by its freight.

Having been directed by the Supreme Commander a delegation from Kazarovia has departed our nation and should be arriving shortly in Neo Rokkenjima as well as the planned visit of KSDF and Jaruxu representatives, a member of the KSDF/KIPS Joint Security Taskforce has joined the delegation to speak on the pressing matter of Julianos Sanders. The Delegation will arrive on a Jaruxu Avionics Lushliner AA-118. The Detachment of 5 KSDF ZA-4 Attack Helicoptors that protect the delegation has landed in the Unclaimed Territory referred to as Aqua-69 in deference to the Sovereign Airspace of Neo Rokkenjima.

Having studied the specifications of your naval requirements pricing is as follows
2 x Ruby Class Submarines - U$700 Million each
5 x Frigates & Destroyers - U$280 Million each
Due to The age of the Celestial Class Battleships we would recommend replacing them with the vastly more modern Aurora Class Destroyers which can be supplied at the lower rate of U$977 Million each upon an agreement for the refurbishment of the rest of your fleet

Aurora Class Destroyers, Whilst smaller are heavily armed, have capacity for 1 Helicopter be it in an attack or support role and are much faster and more manoeuvrable. which would suit the role of policing the Sea of Kyne and Rokkenjima Sea.

A Suitable Building in the Myracium Capital Diplomatic Special Region has been made available for an embassy of Neo Rokkenjiima.

as for Julianos Sanders, we will endeavour to arrest Mr Sanders as the removal of sealed Government or KSDF documents is illegal within our nation. we will however cede to your concerns on the treatment of this individual and allow for a representative of your nation to be witness to any trial that may occur so that you may be satisfied of its justness. Having stated this we ask that Neo Rokkenjima accept Kazarovia's request for extradition should Julianos Sanders be located within the borders of your empire.

We thank you for your consideration of our proposals and look forward to the festivities to follow our meetings

"The captain sends her best regards" said a girl to General Klepper as she placed a cup of hot coffee on the table next to his armrest.

"Thank you, miss." said the General with a smile as he accepted the coffee. He took a long sip as he watched the endless sea stretch as long as the eye could see. After finishing the cup, he placed it next to him and tried his best to get some rest before the airplane began its descent.

"This is Flight B20, starting descent, over" said Flight Officer Truman into the microphone, transmitting the message to the Rokkenjiman airport.

After confirming the availability of the runway to the large Bechsteinian airplane, it landed with the thunderous clang that is usual among airplane landings and screeched to a stop. Within minutes, Imperial vehicles and ladders had been propped against the plane, awaiting the celebrated General's arrival.

Klepper checked his suit -as well as the many different badges of courage and honor pinned to it- one last time, set his tie straight, and descended from the airplane, his cap in his hand. He shook hands with a Rokkenjiman representative and was led to a Cadillac limousine.

"The Empress sends her regards" read a small letter in his seat.

Somewhere over the Rokkenjima Sea

Andrei Petnov, Ivan Toralo and Tørsten Sikarov took their places around a table at the front of the hull of the governmental airship (like the one in the picture, except it is jet black with red stripes covering it in the style of the Quinntopian flag - there is also a large hammer and sickle on the front of the airship). They looked out of the window, admiring the stunning view of the Rokkenjima Sea, which was a brilliant azure backdrop to their upcoming lunch. They walked up to another table, upon which there were three plates. This was their meal - Kraken steak (the Kraken is Quinntopia's national animal) with Quinntopian vodka.

"This is great," said Petnov, "cooked to perfection. How long did Mikael say it would be before we get to Pyrettanian International Airport?"

"About half an hour," said Toralo, "don't worry, there's transport waiting at the airport to take us straight to Pyrena Castle, so we won't be late."

Sikarov, after taking a sizeable bite of his steak, said "That's good. I was slightly worried about being late. Oh, by the way, the Quinntopia Class Battleship which we're hopefully selling to Neo Rokkenjima is already at the nearest port to Pyrena Castle. The people there know it is only there for peaceful purposes, though, so no diplomatic incidents should occur."

"Oh, right. Well, we better finish off our meals and get ready for landing," said Petnov, "lest we'll still be eating when we land."

About half an hour later

With Petnov, Toralo and Sikarov all sitting in the main passenger area of the airship, it began its slow descent onto the tarmac at Pyrettanian International Airport. It hovered down gradually, kicking up some dust as it came in to land. The engines began to slow down, and the three representatives could hear the landing stands lowering in the eerie silence. Looking out of the window, Sikarov saw the mooring lines being thrown to mechanics on the ground, who tied them up to metal poles inside a large hangar.

Eventually, the airship gracefully came to a halt in the centre of the hangar. The door opened, and the retractable stairs extended. Petnov, Toralo and Sikarov then stepped out. All three were wearing a tuxedo (with a red waistcoat instead of the grey one depicted in the picture), each with Quinntopian flag badges on their lapels.

They were greeted by Rokkenjiman delegates who they shook hands and exchanged friendly words with, before being led to a limousine, which had two flags flying on the front of the car - the Quinntopian flag and the Rokkenjiman flag. The limo pulled away, beginning their journey to Pyrena Castle.

Prince Alexander chuckled and rolled his eyes at Luke Foreman, the Foreign Secretary, after a particularly lewd joke. "My dear Minister, while I'm sure the Empress is rather attractive lady, I doubt she would share my love for going out clubbing at the weekend. Anyway, what an awful scandal, an imperial leader caught clubbing in the Rokkenjiman red-light district."

"You don't have to take her there," Luke smirked, placing his glass of whisky on the table. "If you dance anything like your father, you'd be the laughing stock of a nightclub anyway."

The Prince pouted and glanced at the portrait of his father, which was situated just above a small window. "I don't dance like him, nobody can dance as badly as him." His eyes closed for a few moments, the sound of the plane's engines filling his ears. "But yes, a dance with the Empress sounds nice," he smiled softly, then glared at Luke, "But nothing–"

"The warships, sir," interjected Harry Riptide, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. He wore a stern but seemingly exasperated look on his face, "I can't help but think all you two care about is having a dance with the Empress, which is hardly the point of this conference." He leaned forward from his chair and stared at the Prince. "You better not screw this up."

The Prince's glare turned serious. "This may be my first overseas visit, but it is yours to. And if you're not careful, it will also be your last." He glanced up at the clock and stood up. "We shall be arriving in twenty minutes, I'll go and get ready now."

By the time the plane had landed, the three men wore seemingly identical suits. Each one had a plane white shirt with an inoffensive blue tie, along a simple black blazer. The only noticeable difference was the brooch fastened to the Prince's own uniform. The Prince took a deep breath, smelling Rokkenjiman air for the first time. "Okay," he murmured to the ministers, "It's show time."

The trio walked down the stairs to the tarmac, before being greeted by the Empress' representatives. After a brief discussion, they headed to the diplomatic cars. Like the limousines of other diplomats arriving, two of them had both national flags; while the third, the Prince's car, had the Royal Standard of the Prince of Southfleet – an amended version of the King's Royal Standard. Little time was wasted and soon the convoy of cars were off, heading towards their accommodation.

The Green Suite, Personal quarters of the Empress at Pyrena Castle.

"Lady Beatrice, our guests are expected to arrive at the Castle soon, you should finish getting ready," Evangeline said as she stood. The Prime Minister had been enjoying a drink with the Empress as she usually did on Saturday evenings. The Smashing Pumpkins played in the background as Beatrice took another sip of her apple ale, "Yes, though I wish you would quit speaking like you're still my nanny, Eva." The two laughed as Beatrice took a few moments to finish her preparations for the events of the evening.

"Our schedule of events?" Evangeline asked, almost as a teacher addressing a pupil. "This evening, after the Imperial House Staff have seen that our guests are settled in I shall be greeting the foreign dignitaries and guests which have traveled to Neo Rokkenjima. After a short speech a dinner shall be held in the East Dining Room and, as I understand, our Chefs have prepared a feast which should leave all appetites satisfied. Following our dinner I shall meet privately with each delegation to discuss various issues, after which festivities are to be held in the Garden Patio, allowing for further mingling and festivities; the Imperial Marines have fireworks prepared which will illuminate the skies over Pyrettania, which are visible from the Garden Patio of course. The ball shall occur during this time in both the Patio and the Western Ball Room which is adjacent to the Garden Patio.

I shall also discuss several items of business with our guests, and will devote my full attention and consideration to all business proposed. My offices in the Green Suite will be available for more private discussions, and at the discretion of our guests. Have I missed anything?" Evangeline smiled, "Nothing that I can tell. Of course tomorrow shall be a day of a more leisurely pace, meetings to finalize proposals and to otherwise wrap things up."

Beatrice retreated and placed the final touches on her hair, dress and of course shoes before declaring herself fully ready. If all went well relations between the First Empire and several nations would be off to an excellent start, a new lifeline would be thrown to the Imperial Navy, the main guardian of her rule and the force which granted her the ability to hold the darker desires within the Armed Forces at bay, and perhaps this civil war could be brought to a swifter resolution as well.

At 24 years old she knew that everyone around her, even the nanny which her parents had hired fifteen years ago who now served as her Prime Minister, viewed her as naive. She knew that some elements of the movement which had seen the return of the Monarchy, this time stylized as the First Empire, were unhappy with her actions and decisions. Where they had expected a pretty face to the people and the world she had proven to be the real power behind the war against the Republicans, enjoying the full support of the Admirality.

Regarding Bayougarou:

The First Empire welcomes such an alliance to maintain the tranquility and security of the Gulf of Shaw. As Imperial naval assets become more potent the First Empire will begin to increase its efforts to the securities of these waters, and hopes to see a relationship of trust and prosperity between her people and those of Bayougarou. Our waters shall also remain friendly to freight and naval traffic from Bayougarou.

Katherine Albright
Imperial Councilor of Foreign Affairs

Gabriel Polyakov/Basil Imbrahimov;

The Empress looks forward to discussing the terms you have noted and looks forward to greeting you at her home and seat of Imperial power, Pyrena Castle. She will engage in discussions concerning the topics noted following the dinner which has been prepared, and prefers to address all issues noted in person.

We do hope your journey to our nation has been pleasant and smooth.

Katherine Albright
Imperial Councilor of Foreign Affairs

All guests in attendance are considered to have arrived in Neo Rokkenjima, and have been shown to their accommodations in the Royal Guest Wing of Pyrena Castle. After settling into accomodations they shall be directed to the East Dining Room where, after a speech by the Empress and dining, private meetings with the Empress shall take place before festivities are moved to the Garden Patio. After the fireworks and a performance by the Imperial Band the ball shall take place in the Western Ball Room, adjacent to the Garden Patio.

After the dinner the order of meetings between delegations and the Empress will be as follows:

I. The Delegation from Bayougarou
II. The Delegation from Kazarovia
III. The Delegation from Bechstein
IV. The Delegation from Communist Quinntopia IV
V. The Delegation from Dartfordia

Of course, opportunities for interaction with the Empress will be available at points in-between as well, so it won't be as rigid as things may appear thus far.

And excuse my summarization thus far, first real RP and I've been battling with Linux Mint so I'm burnt out and in a rather meh mood. I've enjoyed each post so far and look forward to seeing where this goes!

"I fancy me a sip of this." said Klepper, holding a bottle of wine kindly supplied by the Imperial Government. He rapidly opened the bottle and poured himself a drink on a glass sitting nearby, and he drank its contents as he walked around the large room that was to be his habitation during the talks. The General handed his glass to the Flying Officer, gave her a strong pat on the shoulder, chuckled at her puzzled face, and walked out to the balcony.

He took out a cellphone, dialed a number, and began talking to the President. After a long and amicable conversation, he proceeded to walk back inside and close the door. It was warmer inside the room than out, so he took off his long trench-coat and suit and placed it on a chair. He sat down and began reading.

--

"Damn!" having checked his watch, Klepper noticed he was late. He rapidly put on the trench-coat and jacket, still displaying all his medals, and combed what little hair he still had. He rapidly began walking towards the door when he noticed the Flying Officer still there, with the empty glass.

"Eh." he took the glass, poured himself another drink, and then continued his rapid march towards the agreed-upon place.

Petnov, Toralo and Sikarov reached their rooms in the Royal Guest Wing - all three were adjacent to each other. They began to unpack clothes, toiletries and other such things in preparation for their stay in Pyrena Castle. Each decided to have a shower and a shave before heading to the talks. The smell of Toralo's deodorant filled the corridor of the Guest Wing. Toralo was the first to leave his room. He waited outside Petnov's door until Petnov also left the room. The two were now waiting on Tørsten Sikarov.

About 10 minutes passed until Toralo knocked on the door, saying "Tørsten? What the hell are you doing in there?" Sikarov replied "Just a second!" He opened the door and the smell of deodorant was replaced by a burning stench. He pointed to a charred white shirt on the floor. "I, erm... put it in the trouser press and left it in for too long," he said, "don't worry, this shirt is fine." The shirt was exactly the same (well, apart from being burnt.)

Petnov stated "OK, then, let's go." Sikarov then closed his door and the three walked down the corridor in a line, their steps synchronised almost to the point that an onlooker would believe it was choreographed.

A few minutes later, the trio had reached the East Dining Room. "Well, here it is," said Toralo, "let's go."

Prince Alexander, Luke Foreman and Harry Riptide wondered around their imperial suite, inspecting the grander of the rooms. The 21 year old Prince wore his Colonel uniform, pinned to it were a number of ceremonial and service medals. He stared into the mirror, searching for any small issues with his uniform. His long brown hair had been combed, but was allowed to roam free, coming down to his collar. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, enjoying the but comfortable silence between the three men. His eyes snapped open when the silence was broken by Harry, the Trade and Industry Secretary, who began reciting the protocol for meeting the Empress.

"If I hear the word protocol one more time I will behead the person who said it," growled Prince Alexander as he fixed one of his medals. "I'm sure nobody cares about it as much as you, Harry," he let a smirk creep onto his face. "Sometimes I feel you just want to make me look boring."

Luke stood next to the Prince, a smug look on his face. "But, Your Royal Highness, formal ceremonies are supposed to be about not having fun, which is stipulated by royal pro–"

"Don't you dare," Luke moved away from the minister and glanced towards the clock. "When are we due to go down?"

"Five minutes ago, sir," Harry chuckled, fixing the Prince's hair. "You must take more care of your hair, you're here to impress," he winked at him and moved towards the door. He grasped the handle and looked up, admiring the intricate patterns that adorned the wall.

"I'm not sure why father sent me here," Alex grumbled, "I'm supposed to impress an Empress who's probably twice my age, I might have been into cougars once but," he shuddered at the thought, "She'll probably look like my mother."

Harry opened the door and allowed the Prince to exit, before sharing a knowing smile with his fellow minister. "That boy will be in for such a shock. He might end up speechless for once."

"Not a chance," Luke responded, who sped up to walk alongside the Prince as the three of them moved through the grand corridors that led towards the East Dining Room.

A chime comes over the Castle's Intercom:

"Honored guests, welcome to Pyrena Castle. We hope that your journey to the First Empire has been pleasant, and that your accommodations are to your liking. The Empress requests your presence at the East Dining Room where her personal chefs have prepared a variety of dishes for you. If at any time you require anything the Empress's staff shall be at your disposal."

Beatrice awaited her guests at the entrance to the East Dining Room, wearing the formal wear to be required for such a function. She smiled and curtseyed as each delegation approached her, and while she put forth an air of calm command she was concerned that some of the guests would be able to detect her nervousness. "I do wish I could leave these tasks to Evangeline, she'd likely relate to them better as she's more their age," she thought to herself before taking notice of Prince Alexander. "Hmm, perhaps there is hope for the night yet," she thought with a grin and a blush.

Upon the last delegation entering the East Dining Room she walked to the head of the table, Prime Minister Evangeline and Imperial Councilor Katherine following behind her. "It is my pleasure to host you all in my home please, do be seated," she said with a motion of her hand. She remained standing and, after a moment of hesitation, commenced her speech.

"On behalf of the First Empire allow me to thank you for your presence on such short notice. Neo Rokkenjima is a nation reborn, a correction of the corruption of history which saw my family deposed from its homeland upon the establishment of the Federal Republic. It is my hopes that I may be a worthy representative of my people and nation this evening. Though I'm certain many of you may have had expectations challenged upon meeting me I've been told that my wisdom is beyond my age.

Later there shall be a time for the affairs of state, deals to be discussed, propositions to be considered, but now is not that time. My chefs have prepared, to the best of their abilities, dishes from your nations as well as those deemed essential of Rokkenjiman cuisine. Let us become acquainted through sharing what I consider the universal language of food and drink and please, do sample the Pyrenan Mead, for it is perhaps the most sweet introduction one may have to our fine lands."

The Empress then sat, she never had felt comfortable speaking in formal functions, and the ones before had simply been with fellow Rokkenjimans. She took a sip of her mead, made with fresh tangerines, peaches and a pleasant hint of spices which gave it its unique and prized taste. "I've been notified that Admiral Cole is to arrive shortly to represent military interests, that should be of relief to you," Evangeline said quietly to the Empress. "Indeed, it saves me the worry of General Lancaster turning the proceedings into a diplomatic gaffe," she replied with a roll of her eyes.

Upon trying a dish and noting its utter deliciousness the Empress asked of its origin, being informed that it was Quinntopian. She smiled upon taking another sample, conversing with her guests and feeling more at ease.

(OOC: This has slowed down and, in the interests of progress, I shall take the opportunity Bechstein has provided via the sacrifice of Mr. Klepper and breathe some new life into this topic.)

The Empress, already feeling somewhat giddy from her mead, had already forgotten about the social anxiety which she previously held. Admiral Cole had arrived and, having been already briefed on the topics of discussion regarding the Naval refit and possible expansion, took aside the delegations from Kazarovia and Communist Quinntopia to discuss those matters in a more private location in the Castle. "I'll have you back before the ball, I guarantee it," he said as he guided them to the Imperial Sitting Room.

"Now that we're away from all that pageant let's get some business done. I've never been a fan of these fancy functions, seems like too much pomp and not enough substance if you know what I mean," Cole chuckled.

"The Empress has planned the following agenda for us and has authorized funding for the items you see before you," he continued as he brought up the relevant information on a display in the room:

A. Refit and modernization of all current vessels
B. IRS Valiant to be flagship of the fleet
-Upgrade of electronics suite
-Automation of ship systems to allow smaller crew
-Addition of missiles, as well as research of 16-inch Scramjet shells
-General refit/modernization
C. Imperial Logistics Fleet to include:
-x3 Fort Victoria Class Replenishment Oiler (or equivalent)
-x2 Supply ClassSupply Class fast combat support ships (or equivalent)
-x2 Ammunition Supply Ships
-x1 Dedicated Hospital Vessel
D. Discussions concerning Quinntopia Class Battleship
E. Acquisition of Aurora Class Destroyers (x4)
F. Acquisition of one Aircraft Carrier
G. Feasibility of converting IRS Vanguard into Hybrid Carrier

"The Empress is adamant about keeping the IRS Valiant in service and while I've tried to persuade her to retire the ship her word, not mine, is the decision maker. If anyone would like a drink," Cole motioned to the bar, "help yourselves and let's get started."

The sound of the gunshot didn't register in the mind of the Empress as the assassination of Mr. Klepper played out in front of her in slow motion. The Imperial Guard acted quickly in taking her, and her guests, to the secure wing of the castle. The Flying officer responsible for the assassination was soon in the custody of the Imperial Guard and a full-scale search of the Castle was undertaken to ensure no risk was posed to the Empress or her guests.

"It seems the party has been cut short," she said, shaken and shocked by such a brazen assassination. "And that, my Empress, is what will happen to your officials, and perhaps someday you, if more attention isn't paid to the rebellion in Arovium. Instead of devoting our attentions fully to quashing the rebellion you decided you wanted to have your fairy-tale meet and greet. Perhaps in the future you'll listen to me," General Lancaster stated bluntly.

Lancaster cast a look around the room having not cared about the presence of the foreign dignitaries. He had clearly spoken out of place and insulted the Empress, her concerns about a diplomatic gaffe coming to be realized. "I'll take to monitoring the situation until the security of the Castle has been confirmed," he mumbled before exiting the room.

Sikarov turned to his comrades, and they muttered amongst themselves. Ivan Toralo then walked up to the display, perused it for a few seconds, then went back to Petnov and Sikarov and their discussion began again. Petnov went up to check the display, before he returned to the group. After about a minute or so, they stopped talking and turned towards Admiral Cole.

"I take it we're all discussing Points A, B and C," said Sikarov, "and then the respective delegations leave to allow the other to discuss their own order of business?"

Sikarov fiddled with his bowtie as he awaited Cole's reply.

Prince Alexander watched the situation calmly from his spot on the table. He had become desensitised to assassinations, after seeing it happen to many of his father's ministers, his family and even a few of his friends. "Well, that has certainly ruined my appetite," he sighed, rubbing his nose and sitting back into the chair. What did surprise him, however, was General Lancaster's attitude towards the Empress. He turned towards Luke Foreman, who looked equally surprised. "Would you ever say that?" he whispered.

"Not in public, anyway," he muttered. "I'd recommend you intervene but that would be highly irresponsible."

Alex chuckled, then pulled out his notepad. He ripped off a small sheet of paper. "I might just follow your supposed recommendation."

He took one of Harry Riptide and stole one of his pens, much to the minister's annoyance, and wrote:

What the fuck was his problem?

He showed it to Luke, who gave him a disapproving scowl, which almost serves as confirmation that he should sent it – at least to the young prince. he folded the note and called over one of the waiters, passing it to him and asking him to hand it to the Empress.

The Kazarovian Delegation moved to the side of the room, quietly muttering amongst themselves before one stepped aside and made the call. After a brief but frenetic conversation he stepped to Gabriel Polyakov the leader of the delegation, smiling "He said Yes, shall we tell them".

Polyakov motioned to Admiral Cole that he had some relevant news. "Our supreme commander has advised us that we can share the designs of our latest Battle Carriers/, the Nuevo Australis Class"
Spoiler: click to toggle

Kazarovia Would also like to offer a Conventional Aircraft Carrier, the Nuevo Vires Class at a cost of U$3 Billion, The Battle Carrier Cost is U$4.5 Billion, but are built from new the cost of refitting a current ship to Battle Carrier Specs would be astronomical, all prices include armament but not aircraft.

Prices for the Aurora Class Destroyers is as before U$ 977 Million, As for the Supply Ships, Our Logic Class Wet/Dry Cargo Military Cargo ships, seen here alongside a Nuevo Vires Conventional Carrier

would be suitable and are available from U$300 Million Brand new or U$220 Million For a refurbished Model from our Existing Fleet.

Cole's cellphone ran just before he was going to address Sikarov's question. "As long as you're unharmed and the Imperial Guard is in charge of the situation we've nothing to worry about.....yes, if that's what you wish I'm more than able to continue our discussions.....very well, I'll deal with Lancaster later."

"It seems we'll all be staying here for a while as the Castle is presently in lock-down. Seems Bechstein has a rebellion on their hands with a long reach, Mr. Klepper was assassinated by one of his own. We're secure in this room I assure you, the Imperial Guard not withstanding the wing we're in went into lockdown as soon as the situation transpired. The Empress, while understandably shaken, wishes for me to continue our discussions."

Cole took a sip of his whiskey, "Help yourselves to a drink, I'm a man of efficiency and won't have you waiting for long. Even with the security situation under control it's best for us to stay precisely where we are."

Cole turned his attentions to Polyakov and considered the list of proposals presented. "I've never been a fan of aircraft carriers themselves, and thankfully the Empress shares my preference for armour. On the other hand we do wish to also have a dedicated naval air platform to round out our naval capabilities. I'm interested in acquiring one Nuevo Australis along with two Nuevo Vires. One question however, are these Battle Carrier designs based upon a ship of your fleet or would one of our Celestial Class vessels be the platform? IRS Valiant is being modernized and will remain a pure battleship, with her sister being planned for conversion. Though if these plans are using one of your battleships as the platform we may modernize her as well, and do forgive me if I've confused things."

Cole again sipped his whiskey, "The Empress still wishes to procure four Auroras, as well as three Wet/Dry Cargo Military Ships. After we clear up my moment of confusion we can figure out the costs and put some ink to this deal."

Beatrice quietly discussed the situation with Evangeline. “You know the reason he's frustrated with me, I didn't exactly follow along with his desires to play a more prominent role in the new Rokkenjima. He asked for my hand in marriage, and I knew his intents were for greater military influence in the government. He thought I was just a pretty face, the last Anselmo who could make a claim for the Throne, that I would be a push-over without an idea what I want or should do.” “And you were wise to see that, I realize full well that if it wasn't for his ability as a general you'd have disposed of him long before,” Evangeline replied.

“He'll only become more dangerous as time passes though. Field Marshal Hamilton has suggested that I replace him, and that's a suggestion I intend to act upon,” Beatrice sighed before being handed Alexander's letter. “Evangeline, see to the needs of our guests, I need some time to myself,” Beatrice said after quickly penning a reply and handing it to the waiter. “As you wish,” was her simple reply.

”A scorned relic who's soon to be out of a job. I'll be in the Imperial Library and instruction will be left with the Imperial Guard to escort you there shortly, they'll be waiting just outside the doors to this room should you excuse yourself. I need to distance myself from this situation.”

The Empress then excused herself while Evangeline attempted to make those remaining comfortable.

"Admiral Cole" Began Polyakov "the New Battle Carriers require a deeper and wider hull than a standard Battleship provides to allow for the weight of the double rampways so these ships must be built from scratch, my suggestion would be to have the IRS Valiant and her sister ship modernized as Pure battleships. The BattleCarrier is a new and exciting development for Kazarovia and builds on our grand Naval History. We are laying the Materials for the first of our own in drydock currently we would be happy to see yours be built alongside. we will make plans for the construction of 4 Aurora class destroyers, 3 Logic Class Wet/Dry Cargo Ships, 2 Nuevo Vires Class Aircraft Carriers and 1 Nuevo Australis. as well as training for your admiralty in Kazarovian Naval technology after all we want you to be able to play with your toys once they arrive, speaking of which the Logic class can be with you in 3 months the Nuevo Vires and Aurora Class in 6 and the Nuevo Australis in approximately 1 Year(OOC:Build times are in Game not IRL), One of the joys of having such Gargantuan Drydock facilities is our ability to build ships concurrently, no nation as far as we are aware has the ability to house so many ships under construction at one time"

"All sounds in order then," Admiral Cole said with a smile. "I'm interested in seeing what the Battle Carrier will be able to do, and I feel this will be the start of a strong naval relationship between our nations. As a note, we'll be interested in a refurbished Logic Class so that we may put it to use sooner, with two new vessels to follow it. Thus far, for the vessels we're slated to purchase, the Imperial Treasury will be ready to make a deposit to your nation to the tune of $25.728b."

"We'd also like to modernize Valiant and Vanguard, so if we could discuss a timetable and price for that project we can get that wrapped up as well. Vanguard would be the first up for that, followed by Valiant. I'm impressed by what I've seen and heard, you certainly have reason to be proud of the naval capabilities you've got. Hopefully Neo Rokkenjima can rebuild her capabilities, perhaps we'll come up with something your navy will be itching to get its hands on."

"Cole" exclaimed Polyakov, the Whiskey finally having an effect on his mood "The Battleships you wish refitted and refurbished were quoted at U$447Million each, but I like you, let's make it U$440Million instead. What's 14 million between friends". Basil Imbrahimov appeared almost out of nowhere, next to Polyakov "I think you should slow down with the Whiskey Gabe, before we're doing this for free". "but yes Admiral Cole" continued Imbrahimov "Gabriel is correct on the pricing of the Battleship refurbishment, I should think the Supreme Commander will be happy with the deal struck today. We will have a refurbished Logic class on it's way to you as soon as we have confirmation of the funds with the two new vessels starting construction asap alongside the other ships, now if you will excuse me the events in Bechstein require my immediate attention". "and yours too, Gabe" he stated emphatically as he turned to find a more private location

Prince Alexander glanced up as Beatrice left the room. "Look what you did, you idiot," Harry Riptide almost growled into his ear. The Prince ignored him, choosing instead to thank the waiter for delivering the note. He read it over a few times, just to make sure he'd not lost the plot, and grinned.

"Do excuse me gentlemen," he pressed his fingers to the fabric beneath his neck, fixing a non-existent tie, "Time for a little personal diplomacy."

"Don't get too carried away, I'm not sure the King would like the idea of Dartfordia entering into a Personal Union just yet," Luke Foreman chuckled, offering the Prince a small smile. "See you later, sir."

Alex stood slowly, nodding at the two gentlemen. He folded the note and slipped it into his pocket. He pushed his chair back under the table, before making his way round the exit that Beatrice had used. He greeted the guards, who led him towards the Imperial Library. They left him just outside the grand oak doors, which he took a few moments to admire. He turned the handle and entered the library, immediately spotting the Empress within the expansive room.

It took him an unusual amount of time to think of what to say, so he eventually settled with a simple, "Hey."

"Mr. Polyakov, you've earned the gratitude of the Empress," Cole said with a grin. "As soon as the civil war quiets down in Bechstein I'll send the Vanguard over your way. She's an older lady, in fact I served as her Captain some time before my promotion to Admiral, so be gentle with her."

"I'll make my report to the Empress once I've discussed matters with Sikarov. Right now we're still in a state of lock-down, however, you'll find a room two doors down from where we are with a communications suite if you should need to use its facilities. Let us all hope things in Bechstein get resolved swiftly."

Before Alexander's arrival Beatrice had taken the opportunity to slip into her skirt, 'That's much more comfortable,' she thought to herself. That General Lancaster would be so brazen in front of her guests still angered her and, if she were Empress of a less civilized society, she'd have had another assassination to deal with, that of the General. She closed one of her eyes and, like a child playing cops and robbers, pointed at one of the statues in the library with her thumb up, "Bang!" she said quietly. Then she noticed the presence of Prince Alexander.

"Well if that's not embarrassing," she said as she composed herself, "but really, so far this has been a disaster. Our introduction to the world turned into an international story of assassination and insubordination, I'm sure that'll make great headlines," she said with a chuckle. "Hopefully I haven't left too bad of a first impression with you so far though."

"Anyway I've never been one for formal events, I get nervous and just want to start rambling like I'm doing now. So I'll just stop myself there and apologize for that display of ignorance. Also, hello," Beatrice said, wondering if her rambling had made things any more awkward than they had been.

Sikarov, Petnov and Toralo approached Admiral Cole, and took a seat at the bar with him. Sikarov turned his head towards Cole and began to speak.

"I believe we're here to discuss the sale of one Quinntopia Class Battleship. I'm not sure if you got the description, but if you didn't, here's the spec for the Quinntopia Class."

He handed Cole a brown envelope, which Cole opened.

Quinntopia Class Battleship Info

"As you can see, the price to build it was pretty excessive, so the price we're asking for is U$3.5 billion, but we believe that is a fair price, as the Quinntopia Class would make a fine addition to the Rokkenjiman navy, turning your navy into a formidable force of the seas. Our advice is to use it when things get sticky - if you send it in straight away it's likely that whatever enemy you're facing will throw everything they have at it and they'll probably sink it, and you don't want that after paying 3-and-a-half billion for it.

If you're interested in buying the Quinntopia Class, all I have to do is make a call on my phone and it'll be on its way."

Sikarov then turned to Petnov and Toralo, and they discussed something for about 20-30 seconds, and then Sikarov turned back to Admiral Cole.

"Actually, I tell you what - we've just had an idea. If you buy it for our asking price, then we will through in a year's maintenance, free of charge - something which would normally cost a couple of million Universal Dollars per year.

So, what do you say?"

“Indeed we are,” Cole said upon taking a sip of his whiskey, “and I must say it is an impressive vessel which you've presented us with. The Empress desires a Navy which does not skimp on its armour, and I don't feel that will be an issue after today. Valiant and Vanguard are fine vessels, but even after their modernization I must recognize they'll have their limitations in the modern world. The Quinntopia Class will more than address any shortcomings we presently have in that regard.”

Cole looked over the specifications once again, “The Empress will be pleased to welcome the Quinntopia Class to the Imperial Navy. I have the perfect Captain in mind for her too, though I imagine the only way I'll get her to leave the Valiant is if she's taking on water,” Cole laughed. “Anyway, I can contact the Imperial Treasury and have the funds transferred over, you've presented us quite the deal here I feel.”

Prince Alexander watched her ramble, his face slowly lighting up with amusement. "Well," he started, offering her a small grin, "It could have been worse. I could have turned up wearing a mankini and performed 'Sexy and I know it'. Could you imagine that General's face? Well," he thought about it for a moment, "He'd either be highly offended or you'd be able to giggle at a sizeable bulge in his trousers." He closed the door behind him, then calmly walked up to her, took her hand and gave it a delicate kiss. "Alex, or Al, or 'you weird thing', depending on the situation."

After their slightly more formal greeting, his eyes scanned her dress. "You know, I am incredibly envious of you right now. There you are, in a lovely light dress; whereas I'm stuck wearing a uniform tighter than a corset," he paused for a moment, "And yes, I've worn a corset before...long story. Anyway," he chuckled, "Don't worry about the headlines, they'll remember the assassination over the insubordination. It's so much more exciting. It's a shame no one was playing that wonderful piano you had in the East Dining Room, it would have been rather fitting. Don't you think?"

“Knowing General Lancaster he'd have stormed off muttering about degeneracy whilst plotting your arrest. I wouldn't put it past him to have some secret prison he's refused to tell me about and, what manner of things could happen there? I would get a chuckle out of the display before wondering what the hell had possessed you. I'm Beatrice, or Beato as some call me, you weird thing,” Beatrice said with a smirk.

“If you're truly envious I believe I have several spares, if it's as uncomfortable as it looks I'd be doing you a favour,” Beatrice smirked again. “We'll have to hear this corset story sometime though, I'll be sure Lancaster is present for it.” Beatrice then pushed Lancaster out of her mind, calling him before her to announce his loss of a job would be more satisfying than any plot she could think of at the moment. “Sadly the media will report the assassination into the ground every fifteen minutes, people just love their dose of daily death and suffering, do they not?”

“I'm glad someone took note of the piano, it gets so little use these days. Little time for recreation with the rebellion in Arovium keeping me busy. It would have been wonderful, though I'm more partial to the organ. Wondrous instrument, the cost to restore it was well worth it,” she said with a hint of pride.

“Tell me, Alexander, do you like to read?”

OOC: Considering in this RP world I consider a list of my favourite bands as being based in Neo Rokkenjima I haven't considered the cannon so far. Though Bruthannia would be the ultimate authority there of course. :P

OOC: When can we expect the vessels purchased to be delivered to Rokkenjima? I'm looking forward to integrating them into the Imperial Navy! Also, with things slowed down in regards to Bechstein I'd like to send the Vanguard to be modernized as soon as possible. ^_^

OOC: I'll send the Quinntopia Class to you now.

"Excellent. It was a pleasure doing business with you," said Sikarov, who then turned to Ivan Toralo, asking "Comrade, how long did you say it would take for the Quinntopia Class to arrive once she sets off?"

"It should be about 3-4 days," said Toralo, "if she runs at full speed on her nuclear generators."

Petnov then chimed in. "The Quinntopia Class we're selling to you doesn't have a name yet, so you'll have the honour of naming her. Feel free to name her whatever you want."

"Well, there you go," said Sikarov, "I'll have her heading for Neo Rokkenjima in no time." He took his phone out of his pocket, and dialled a number. Sikarov put the phone to his ear. "Hello? Yes, it's Comrade Sikarov here. The Rokkenjimans have agreed to buy the Quinntopia Class Battleship. I'd like her to set course for Neo Rokkenjima and be underway as soon as possible. How long will that be? OK, thanks. Bye."

Sikarov turned back to Cole to relay the message that he had received. "She'll be underway within the next two hours. *Remember, despite her apparent might, she does have her weaknesses. As we stated earlier, 3 or more "normal" battleships (as many consider the Quinntopia Class to be a "super battleship") may prove to be more than a match for her. A sufficient number of planes armed with anti-ship weaponry will also be capable of sinking her," Sikarov warned, "so be careful."

"Oh, I almost forgot the most important thing: submarines. They're probably the Quinntopia Class' greatest weakness. Make sure she is escorted by vessels armed with anti-submarine weaponry when she is deployed to a conflict, because the Quinntopia Class will not be able to engage submarines herself due to her virtual lack of anti-submarine weaponry," stated Sikarov, "but she will, however, be able to detect them with use of sonar, so, should the Quinntopia Class be sailing unescorted into a battle, it'll allow you to take at least some evasive action from said submarines*. I'm sorry to be telling you this now, but I just wanted to give you some advice before sending her into battle."

"Out of curiosity, are we staying here due to the lockdown?" said Petnov.

OOC: P.S. The sentences within the two asterisks - I've only revealed this because I want it to be as fair as possible. I didn't want to create a battleship that seemed totally invincible and which dominated the battlefield, sinking all vessels in its path whenever it was deployed, so I've chucked in 2-3 weaknesses to reduce any major unfair advantages.

“It's been great to deal with you,” Cole replied. “By tradition our battleships always have a name which starts with the letter V, so it'll be interesting to see what they decide to name her.” Cole took note of the weaknesses presented and nodded, “We'll be sure to keep that in mind as well.”

“As for the lock-down I've just been informed that the Imperial Guard have declared the situation safe, so we're free to join up with the everyone else.”

OOC: Fairness is good. Steam-rolls are never too much fun, always have to have a little bit of a challenge in there. ^_^

Minister Lehman,

Thank you for forwarding the requested information. The Empress is pleased to have concluded our business and looks forward to future opportunities for trade, and a continued relationship between our naval forces. She is greatly pleased by the services provided.

We've got some names drawn up and know that they will serve our Navy for years to come!

"Let's hope they don't call her anything rude, eh?" chuckled Sikarov, "I tell you, if they did, she would definitely create shock, or rather, raucous laughter, in her enemies." Toralo and Petnov took a while to get the (bad) joke, but once they did, they doubled over in hysterics. "All joking aside, however, I'm looking forward to seeing how the Rokkenjiman Navy puts her to use," and, pointing at Toralo and Petnov (who were still giggling), Sikarov said "as are my comrades here. I hope she and her crew does well. I think we're going to stay here for a bit, and have a couple of drinks - mainly vodka. After that, we'll probably head to the Garden Patio and the Western Ball Room for the frivolities which shall take place there."

Toralo and Petnov stood up, and stood next to Sikarov. Each of the men shook hands with Admiral Cole, before Petnov stated "Sorry if me and Comrade Ivan here didn't speak much. We were mainly here to advise Sikarov, and/or... correct him if he conveyed the incorrect information. Thankfully, he went through everything that we planned, which were in the interests of both of our nations." Toralo then spoke to Cole. "There's only three men who've been privileged enough to be at the helm of one of those vessels. Me, and two of the People's Revolutionary Navy's Admirals: Ketill Villa and Sjarel Takenaka. It's a fascinating experience watching her 20-inch guns unleash their awesome power. The reverberating boom of her cannons is an unforgettable noise, in a good way of course, and the devastation they cause is awe-inspiring."

Sikarov then proceeded to draw the conversation to a close. "OK, I believe that's everything. Once again, thank you, Comrade Cole. Prøliska*!" With that, he, Petnov and Toralo sat down at the bar and ordered three shots of vodka. Turning round, Petnov said "Oh, and if there's anything else you want to talk about, just come over here and we'll be willing to have a chat."

*Quinntopian for "goodbye".

"Last I knew Valkyrie was the next name up, then Victory, though I do believe the later has been assigned to the Nuevo Australis Battlecarrier. I think Valkyrie is the better of the two personally," Cole said before ordering another whiskey. "Even though Lucy Madrid turned down the opportunity to be her first Captain I've got another in mind, Caroline Kawa, who I know will be more than capable at her helm."

"I'll follow your lead, I believe we have some Quinntopian vodka stocked, never had much of a taste for vodka but I've heard your nation knows what it's doing there so I'll brave it. After all, the Empress still owes me a dance and I intend to collect on that this evening. Afterwards I've got a certain ex-General to castrate," he said with a chuckle.

"Speaking of that," Cole paused to sip his whiskey, "I may have to take the opportunity to take command of her, at least for trials and such, it would be a welcome break from all the time I've spent away from the sea. And if the Republicans keep this damned rebellion going on I know the perfect way to make them soil their britches. After their plot to assassinate the Empress, well, after her father's death I've been more or less a father to her, so her safety is even moreso my top priority."

"I'm not well versed in the naval traditions of your nation, but even with the Imperial Guard it's the Navy which is the true protector of the Empress. My predecessors from the days of the Royal Provinces protected the Queen in very much the same way; even if the Army should ever betray her our guns'll remain forever loyal."

Alexander chuckled, "I'm sure I can manage without requiring a dress. Although don't be surprised if we have to walk around the secret tunnels to avoid me being spotted in one. Hey, at least it would provide an alternative news story for the press."

He noted her prideful tone about the organ. "I haven't seen it yet, but there's no opposition from me if you'd like to have someone listen to you play it. I always find music sounds better when coming from an organ. Just so ing as it's musical and not a human one. Fortunately I don't have many stories to share about that."

He pondered on her question, thinking carefully before replying. "Yes and no. If I have an interest in the subject, I could read until I'm dead. If not, then I won't touch it." He reached up and stroked the spine of one of her books. "Good old JK, this was a fantastic series." He turned to face her again. "I suppose I don't need to ask."

"We'll proceed without the dress then," Beatrice replied. "I'm glad to see you too appreciate the majesty of the organ and, though I don't have the opportunity to play it tonight I will be holding a performance of sorts for the nation to be televised next month which you may attend if you wish. In the room adjacent to this one is another project of mine due to be moved to the music room, the 1894 harpsichord we've preserved. If you'd like I can give you a bit of a preview of what I expect to do in the performance."

Beatrice then walked over to a bookshelf against the wall, "Excellent, I think you'll find this book most interesting." She went to remove a book from the shelf but it only tilted out a small distance, after which the shelf moved back into the wall, and then aside to reveal a door. "During renovations to the castle I discovered several passages. Some of which, like this one, are hidden for my personal use. If you'd like to join me I do believe some of the castle staff are hosting a party of their own, without all the pomp and protocol of this particular function."

Alexander raised his eyebrows as the bookshelf moved aside, clearly impressed. He stepped forward and opened the door. "We have some of these at home, they're great when someone's trying to kill you." He extended his arm and smiled, "After you." He followed her into the corridor and closed the door, he searched the wall and found a small lever. "I pull this I presume?"

"Interesting story behind that lever, actually. It's nonfunctional today but I've heard it used to open a timed trap door just before us where, if being pursued, it would allow time enough for you to pass, but not your pursuer. I do believe it dropped them into a vat of boiling oil, but then again, it could just be one of those stories you hear from the previous owner that makes you question whether you wish to buy the house or not. Everything today is automated," she winked before proceeding down the passage.

Nearing the door at the end of the passage the sounds of a band could be heard and, in a more common setting, it would be natural to assume that a cover band had come to play for the assembled guests. "Perfect timing, we haven't missed the band," Beatrice said as she opened the door. "Billy's an old friend of mine and promised me a performance here at the castle, I do hope you like the Smashing Pumpkins," she said with a grin.

Beatrice had always insisted that the castle staff treat her like they would a 'normal' person, and thus formalities amongst them were non-existent. She preferred it this way, as she felt she could more closely relate to them if they didn't always view her as the Empress. She made her way over to the bar and ordered a glass of mead, motioning for the Prince to grab a drink if he wished to.

Meanwhile Evangeline began to notice that the Empress had been gone for some time, also taking notice that the Prince had left the room as well. She walked over to Luke, "I noticed that Prince Alexander left the room shortly after the Empress. You wouldn't know what that was about, would you?"

"One would question how they could fit a vat of oil immediately below, let alone boiling oil." After a moment, he chuckled, "could you imagine the gas bill?" For good measure, he waited until she was a good distance ahead, pulled the lever and ran to catch up with her.

The Prince seemed rather taken aback. He'd heard of the Smashing Pumpkins, who hadn't (OOC: I hadn't)? But to see them performing live in Beatrice's own little parallel universe was seemingly mind-blowing. It made him wonder whether his father used to have this type of setup. 'Surely not,' he thought. He suddenly felt out of place in his 'number one' military uniform, and was not the least bit envious of the suit-wearing staff members. He glanced down at his medals and rolled his eyes, they were supposed to impress; yet the only thing impressive about them were the ways the colours bounced off in different directions. He smiled at the Empress and ordered a shot, hoping to somehow ease his sudden social anxiety.

The two men glanced up, both clearly amused by her question. "Well," Harry began, "the Prince sent a note to the Empress with some naughty words, she sent one back and he not-so-subtly followed her to the library, I believe." He raised a glass to her, then went back to conversing with another delegate.

Luke stood up and chuckled, extending his hand to Evangeline. "Do ignore my colleague's suppressed jealously, he's like a less-flambouent version of the Prince. Although, the library is a rather strange place to explore one's promiscuousness, don't you think?"

Beatrice enjoyed her mead and small talk with the Prince as one of her favourites were played in the background. "You might be wondering why I would go to such extraordinary measures, after all, such arrangements aren't all that common. It's my way of giving back to the castle staff, and it's one of the few places I'm not put up on a pedestal. I think that's an important thing to keep hold of especially when you're in a position of great power and responsibility, wouldn't you agree?"

Her attention was immediately caught by the sound of Cherub Rock where she shamelessly broke into a fit of fangirling which would be considered 'unbecoming of the Empress' had Evangeline been present. She sang along, not missing a word nor pitch, and nearly fainted when Billy pointed at her. "I'm sorry, I swear I'm not totally crazy," she said once she regained her composure. "Why don't you tell me more about your country, I've been stuck in Rokkenjima since the war and it's been quite some time since I've been able to travel."

Evangeline nodded, "Thank you for letting me know, she's got quite a few tricks up her sleeves so I doubt the library was her final destination." She motioned for one of the Imperial Guard to come over, "Begin a search for the Empress, check every nook and cranny. And yes, that includes the passages she didn't think I knew about."

The Prince chuckled. "I'd never really thought about it...I tend to just dress down and head down," he corrected himself quickly, "Head down-town, not...down." He giggled and drank down another shot. "But then again I don't have the responsib–" he paused mid-word to stare at her as she broke into song. The person he was staring at now couldn't be more different from the snobbish, boring privileged girl he had initially expected the Empress to be.

"I uh, take it you like those Pumpkin guys?" he grinned, turning slightly to ask for a non-alcoholic beverage. "Ah, yeah, Dartfordia. Bit of a boring country, to be honest. Dismantled industries, an army that couldn't fight off a sheep, another tricolour flag. Hematite has a good nightlife though, rated 3rd best city in the Order. We barely export anything so lack the funds to actually do anything, we racked up such a debt in our civil war we're paralysed." He offered her a small smile. "But it doesn't matter. We're putting some money into future technologies, from MagLev lines to ePhone apps."

Luke frowned and motioned for her to sit down. "Is that entirely necessary? I highly doubt the Prince has kidnapped her. Besides, I think you need a drink."

Beatrice took a look at what the Prince was drinking, "Yes, it's no wonder you're mumbling a bit, that's why I stick to the mead," she said, amused. As she heard his question she tuned out the music some more, "Yes, they've been a favourite for a few years now. Really helped to keep my mind off things, what with the war and everything."

She listened to Alexander describe Dartfordia, "It sounds like a place I'd like to visit sometime, check out this night life in Hematite, perhaps explore the countryside?" She sipped her mead and upon the mention of debt, "Ronove manages many of the First Empire's investments, which essentially means he manages my profile. I'm sure we could work something out to grease the wheels some, break the paralysis some. It's an idea to propose when you go home."

One of her Guards walked up to her and Alexander and whispered into her ear, "I thought so, inform Evangeline that you found the Prince and I discussing a future diplomatic visit to the Kingdom and that I'll return once our discussions have concluded. And please, sit for at least a few moments before you head back up, your shift doesn't end for another few hours and you deserve it." He thanked Beatrice and sat for a few moments before returning to duty.

"One of the perks about being the Empress is that your Imperial Guard answer to you, now if Evangeline would learn that she would quit wasting their time. Apparently she's noted our absence."

Evangeline decided to sit with them, "I'm not worried about that, though she should be here and not wandering about the castle in the middle of an event she announced," she said as a waiter poured her a glass of water. "I do hope she returns before we conclude the evening's activities at least."

Alexander chuckled, taking a sip of water and placing the glass back on the bar. "That's where you and I are...different," he bit his lip. "You've witnessed so much, yet still manage to be one of those 'cool' Heads of State. I s'pse that's the power of music..."

"I think you might appreciate the view from Forsyth Hill, it feels like you can see the entire country from this one point," he paused to think, then nodded sincerely. "Thank you, Beatrice. I shall speak to the King and see if we can come to...some form of arrangement. It's our credit rating more than anything, I think." After seemingly pondering on it, he grinned, "And we cater for ALL types of club in Heamatite, for whatever floats your boat. Interestingly I think Hematite is the only non-homophobic part of the country, what's it like here?"

A guard approached Evengeline, Luke and Harry. "Ma'am, Lady Beatrice is discussing a future diplomatic visit with the Prince, and shall return when they've...finished." He didn't seem entirely convinced by his explanation.

"It takes a lot to keep some things in, I have many sorrows but I decided long ago that I wouldn't drown in the ashes of the past. To do so would be worse than death, so I focus on the present, making things as great as possible for my people and myself. It's the only way to live when you've lost your family so early in life, as long as I live my life to the fullest extent I feel like they're alive with me."

"I'd love to see Forsyth Hill, you can see from the location of this Castle that I love my views." She took note of Alexander's pause then continued, "Well I'm able to provide assistance, so hopefully you can let me know if I can be of help after returning home. As for homophobia in the First Empire, it's largely a non-issue, people don't view others with labels, just as their fellow country men and women; if they love a man or woman it's accepted."

After Beatrice and the Prince finished their activities they returned to the formal functions, which concluded after the ball and fireworks display. The Empress was pleased to see the progress which Rokkenjima made, that its re-introduction on the world stage, apart from the assassination, was successful. The future seemed bright for Neo Rokkenjima and she looked forward to her reign eagerly, as each day she was in control was one further day which was better than the last for her People.

Before the Prince went to depart Beatrice slipped him a piece of paper, "That's my direct line, I trust you'll keep in touch? And do expect me to visit Dartfordia within the next two weeks," she said with a wink.

The Prince listened with deep interest, a small smile on his face. He deeply admired her, what she had achieved in 24 years far outweighed what he could possibly hope achieve in 100. "I am sure my father will appreciate your gesture, thank you...again"

Alexander, once again dressed in his full military uniform, accepted the slip of paper. He slipped it into one of his many pockets and offered her a small smile. "I shall look forward to it, and of course get things planned. Bit cramped at the moment, so you might get lucky and have to sleep in my room," he winked back, taking her hand and placing a delicate kiss on the back of it, much like he had done in the library. "Until we meet again, Beato."
