People's Revolutionary Navy deploys to Great Northern Sea

Posted Image
Destroyers and cruisers of the PRN advance through the Illumic Channel

In a decision that has shocked a significant number of proletarians, the People's Revolutionary Navy has dispatched a Task Force to the Great Northern Sea, says Ivan Toralo, Chief Commissar of the War Commissariat.

This comes as a surprise considering the nation is still suffering as a result of the Gillespira-3R attacks, in which a terrorist group known as "Incen Werize" released said virus in many major Quinntopian cities. Despite humanitarian aid to proletarians by the military, some believe that the People's Revolutionary Navy is showing no regard for Quinntopian proletarians in this latest move. Nevertheless, a majority of proletarians were supportive of the deployment of the Task Force, as the Warsaw Alliance was exuding threatening behaviour at the time.

Toralo says that "it [the Task Force] was originally deployed to break the Warsaw Alliance's blockade, but shall now maintain a defensive position in the Great Northern Sea until diplomatic talks concerning the rising military tension have concluded."

Those diplomatic talks that Comrade Toralo mentioned are reported to be taking place in Ecclesiarreich, a neutral country which has had no involvement in the current military situation which several nations have took part in. The nations attending the talks, including Quinntopia, wish for a cordial conclusion to the talks with a positive result - perhaps a non-aggression pact or an agreement concerning WMDs.

The threat of Gillespira-3R remains in the our minds, despite Quinntopian researchers getting promising results in their search for a cure, as the knowledge that the Warsaw Alliance has possession of Gillespira-3R biological weapons has spread across the Independent Order. Though the Warsaw Alliance has stated that these weapons will not be brought into use, Quinntopia's nuclear arsenal remains online due to the current military tension.

How will this series of events finish? Only time will tell.

Anti-Transvaal protests in Northania turn violent

Posted Image
Riot police moved in shortly after protesters stormed the Transvaalian embassy

Following news that three Rokkenjiman citizens have been executed by the Transvaalian government and a further two remain imprisoned, Quinntopians across the country took to the streets in protest. However, the protests in Northania turned violent (though the rest remained peaceful).

One protester claimed that he was "fed up with Transvaal's acts", which seemed to be the general consensus among the majority of protesters. Although the protests in Northania had initially been peaceful, things soon turned ugly when the protesters marched by the Transvaalian embassy. The horde suddenly charged towards the building, hitting the gates and walls with a variety of makeshift weapons while others attempted to climb over them. A few stragglers made their way over in the first couple of minutes of the attack, with the lion's share of protesters entering the embassy's grounds after about five or six minutes.

The protesters had soon entered the embassy itself. Havoc ensued, as the protestsers began smashing windows, destroying furniture and throwing Transvaalian documents from balconies and smashed windows. Other documents were burned as a bonfire rapidly grew outside the embassy. Transvaalian officials were frogmarched out of the building, inciting loud chants of "f**k off back to Transvaal", as well as relentless booing and hissing. Meanwhile, their vehicles were battered and tipped onto their roofs and numerous projectiles such as rocks and debris were thrown at the embassy and the Transvaalian officials. The whole ordeal concluded about two hours later, when riot police moved in to clear everyone out of the embassy and its grounds.

The Transvaalian embassy sustained severe damage in the attacks, but the People's Government is yet to make a statement regarding to the events which took place in Northania earlier today. There is little expectation of Quinntopia being apologetic towards Transvaal, considering the Trade Empire's recent actions (which, unsurprisingly, have outraged the international community). Protests were also held outside the Transvaalian embassy in Rokkenjima, though those protests did not become as violent and out-of-hand as this one.

Will tensions boil over once again?

Lakov announces Quinntopia's World Cup squad

Posted Image
Lakov led the Quinntopian team to victory in the last World Cup

As the start of the 3rd IFFA World Cup draws ever closer, Oleg Lakov has announced the 24-man squad which will participate in the tournament, which shall be held in Achkaerin.

Of course, Lakov has stated that "there is nothing stopping Quinntopia from achieving more success in the World Cup" and hopes for the team to put in the same kind of performances as they did at the last World Cup. If Quinntopia's form in the last World Cup is repeated, then the national team should go far in this competition, as they have done in the previous two editions of the World Cup (i.e. reaching the final twice consecutively and winning one of those).

The biggest shock to fans were the retirements of Albert Volkov, Perseus Filipov, Martin Linden, Matvei Silokov and Vilen Matveev, mostly due to age reasons. All were advancing into their thirties and felt they couldn't put in the same level of performance as they have done in previous years. The departure of Volkov and Silokov was particularly heartbreaking for Quinntopian fans, who have fell in love with the pair after their scintillating performances on both the domestic and international stage for over a decade.

Nevertheless, despite the departure of these experienced players, Lakov has found great young talents in the form of Matvey Pasternak, Kuzna Kozlov, Leonty Pavlov, Irakliy Sashov and Roma Romanov. They are either in their late 'teens or early twenties, which means that they can only get better with time. Sashov and Romanov have been hailed in particular as Quinntopia's best young talents and the two players with the greatest potential to become stalwarts of international football in the years to come.

Despite the shake-up in personnel, the team remains largely the same from the one that won the last World Cup. Lakov has attempted to mix experience and youth and many have praised the squad that he has chosen, believing that the squad has maintained its strength from the previous two World Cups. Here is the squad:

The Team

Quinntopians optimistic about World Cup group

Posted Image
Vlad Konstantinov holds the World Cup aloft during the celebratory parade in Quinntropolis (held immediately after the last competition)

Following the draw of the groups for the Group Stages of the World Cup, a poll conducted recently by CQBS showed that an overwhelming 89% of Quinntopians are optimistic about the team's chances in this World Cup.

The draw has seen Quinntopia drawn in Group D along with Dartfordia, Transvaal and Dyfedia - the last two are making their first foray into the World Cup. The apparent nature of the group has fuelled the aforementioned Quinntopian optimism, which is still on a high after Quinntopia's victory at the 2nd IFFA World Cup in Tytor. However, when asked "will Quinntopia retain the World Cup?" there was a significant change in the polls. Only 28% said yes, with 64% saying no and 8% claiming they were unsure.

"I think the draw has been favourable towards us, as two of the other teams in our group are debutantes," stated Lakov in a press conference held earlier today, "but that's not to say they're rubbish. They may be World Cup minnows but they're still capable of causing upsets. We're going to have to work even harder to guard against complacency - Transvaal and Dyfedia could catch us unawares, so we need to be very careful so that we don't slip up against teams we really should be beating. Dartfordia have World Cup experience so they could also pose a threat."

With Quinntopia being both world champions and the highest-ranked team in international football, many fans share Lakov's views. Oleg Venedev, Chief Commissar of the Culture Commissariat, has already stated that the minimum expectation of the Culture Commissariat is for Quinntopia to reach the semi-finals. Should Quinntopia fail to do so, Lakov could be at risk of losing his job. "Having reached the final twice before, and in consecutive tournaments," said Venedev (on behalf of the Culture Commissariat), "there should be nothing stopping Quinntopia from reaching the semi-finals, or even the final again."

So, will the national team live up to their astronomical expectations? We'll soon find out!

Quinntopia's winning ways show no signs of fading

Posted Image
Artyom Mesov scored twice in Quinntopia's 3-1 victory over Dartfordia

Much to the delight of fans, Quinntopia has now won six consecutive World Cup matches (spanning from the Group Stage of the previous World Cup to now) after the national team defeated their Dartfordian counterparts 3-1 at the Artaxia City Stadium.

Quinntopia started the game excellently, with star player Artyom Mesov deftly finishing from inside the 18-yard box after just six minutes. With their "tiki-taka" style of play, they were soon able to take control of the lion's share of possession, though Dartfordia were still causing a few problems and eventually got their reward when they equalised in the 32nd minute. That was how the first half finished. Lakov claimed in the post-match press conference that he had "given the team a kick up the backside it needed before the second half".

As a result, Quinntopia came out of the blocks with intent and were soon into their stride once again. Not much happened within the opening 20 minutes or so of the second half, with the only thing of note being some friendly banter between the two sets of fans (e.g. "you're just the Seventh Province") - the involvement of the two nations in the CSTO/CSU obviously keeping any tensions to a minimum. Eventually, Quinntopia's control of possession began to pay dividends when Roma Romanov grabbed his first World Cup goal on 79 minutes: a superbly placed shot from about 20 yards out (not a bad way to start). There was just enough time for Mesov to get a second in the 88th minute before the final whistle blew.

Lakov praised the team's spirit after the game, stating "I am delighted that we've got off to a winning start in the World Cup. I was expecting some sort of rivalry between the two sides in a bid for one-upmanship within the CSTO, but that didn't seem to materialise. Both sides seemed to treat it as just another game. I was worried when we went in level at half-time but the lads went out there and put the game to bed in the second half. They've got an amazing team spirit and if we carry on in the same way, who knows how far we'll go?"

The win puts Quinntopia top of Group D on goal difference, with Dyfedia beating Transvaal 2-1. Stay tuned for the CQBS report on Quinntopia's next game, which is at the Fox's Den, against Transvaal - tensions are expected to run high!

Quinntopia wins big yet again: Quinntopia 5-0 Transvaal

Posted Image
Roma Romanov celebrates his first goal on the international stage for Quinntopia

The Quinntopian national team have dealt out yet another World Cup drubbing - Transvaal were the victims this time, with a 5-0 defeat at the Fox's Den at the hands of a seemingly unstoppable Quinntopian side.

Tensions flared between fans, players and managers today during an intense match. Transvaal's planned involvement in the USR's arms industry as well as their multiple international controversies led to insulting chants from fans and a heated argument between Lakov and the manager of the Transvaalian manager on the touchline. Additionally, no less than nine players were booked, with Desiderio Acciai almost picking up a red card.

Nevertheless, the heated nature of the match was outshadowed by Quinntopia's dominance on the field. They once again controlled possession during the match, and this payed dividends (as it has done in so many matches before). Taras Danilov opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a superb goal, beating two defenders before smashing the ball into the top corner from inside the box. Zydra Nylund doubled Quinntopia's advantage in the 27th minute, heading home from point-blank range after a superb cross from Dmitry Polzin. Quinntopia made it 3-0 after 34 minutes, with Slaga Lagunov getting his 50th international goal for Quinntopia.

The comfortable lead which Quinntopia had built up in the first half seemed to be under no threat, a belief which was strengthened by a fourth goal - this time Leonid Isevov got the goal, which was a tap-in from about 12 yards. Quinntopia made it 5-0 after Roma Romanov's first international goal - an accurate shot from the edge of the area which found its way into the bottom left-hand corner. After the match, Romanov expressed his "utter elation" at getting his first international goal. Manager Oleg Lakov reserved many congratulatory comments for Romanov as well as praising the team's performance overall after what he called "yet another dominant victory".

Let's see if Quinntopia can maintain their winning streak (which currently stands at seven consecutive victories) in their next match, which is against World Cup newcomers Dyfedia at Memorial Park.

Toshikawa-Transvaal-USR deal "threatens international stability", claims Vinage-Sovetskie

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie: "Funding the USR's arms industry is unwise"

Earlier today, Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie delivered a short statement on behalf of the People's Government in which the recently announced deal between Toshikawa, Transvaal and the USR was slated and denounced as "a silly decision which threatens international stability".

Here is the statement:
Quote:

"The People's Paradise of Communist Quinntopia cannot contain its alarm and disappointment at the recently announced deal between Toshikawa, Transvaal and the United Soviet Russia, which entails Toshikawan and Transvaalian investment in the USR's arms industry. We have no option but to hereby condemn this deal - it is a silly decision which threatens international stability, something which is essential in these difficult times. As we have seen before in Themata, Novincia, Meche, the Great Northern Sea and many other locations, the USR cannot be trusted to maintain a peaceful existence.

This deal comes as particularly unwelcome news for the People's Paradise due to our current involvement in the defence of Meche against the imperialist menace of the USR. We are strongly disheartened by Toshikawa and Transvaal's decision to effectively fund the USR's war of imperialism in Meche and any future conflicts which the USR is likely to ignite. Surely the international community cannot stand idly by whilst the worst abuser of human rights in living memory receives money to fund its expansionist greed! We must stand up and condemn this deal as a whole, for only by applying unilateral pressure to the nations involved can we force them to cancel this ridiculous deal!

It is a great shame that the "election" of Chairman Brezhnev as Stalin's successor did not herald an era of change for the better in the USR, as many of us in the wider international community had hoped. Had such an era began, then this deal would not be as dangerous as it is in reality. Quinntopia will continue to fight the USR, whether that is actively or passively, for as long as it remains as the bastion of aggressive imperialism and the foremost culprit in the tarnishing of the reputation of communism upon Mundus.

The People's Paradise urges the governments of both Toshikawa and Transvaal to reconsider their investment in the USR's arms industry and their stance towards the USR in general. The USR cannot be trusted, especially with weapons, which is why this deal is an extremely bad idea, not only for the parties involved, but for the international community as a whole.

That is all."

Peace conference brings Mechean conflict to an end - USR invasion repelled

Posted Image
A parade was held in Quinntropolis to celebrate the repulsion of the USR's invasion upon the return of Quinntopian troops from Meche

Following a peace conference in Furik'tik, the Free Federation of Meche and the United Soviet Russia have agreed to conclude hostilities between the two nations. The news, however, is bittersweet for Quinntopia and her CSTO comrades.

While the Soviet invasion may have been repelled due to their agreement to peacefully withdraw from Meche, Meche itself has agreed to not seek CSTO membership, though President Grigori Utkin has stated that "Meche still considers Cross-Straits states to be both friends and allies, and the Free Federation will not forget how they came to our aid when we needed it most." The USR Pravda, on the other hand, in another piece of ludicrous yet unsurprising propaganda, claims that the USR won the conflict with "Rokkenjiman imperialists shamefully leaving the conflict, their armies in tatters, their hands bloody".

Both Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie and Xerxes Kaminski have slammed the aforementioned Pravda article, with rumours of a covert radio operation to let the people of the USR know the real story circulating rapidly across the country. Vinage-Sovetskie and Kaminski also condemned the Pravda's description of the CSTO as a "threat to global security", claiming that "the USR is the real threat to global security due to their aggressive imperialist agenda and their total disregard for human life."

Despite the consequences of the peace agreement being not exactly ideal, the returning Quinntopian troops still received a rapturous reception during a celebratory parade in Quinntropolis. There are also rumours of Quinntopia and Meche becoming involved in talks to strengthen relations between the two nations without Meche becoming a member of the CSTO, a move which Xerxes Kaminski has praised and recommended to Quinntopia's Cross-Straits comrades. The future is looking up for the Free Federation, despite becoming embroiled in a brutal yet quick war with the USR.

What will this mean for Mundus?

(OOC: Sorry there isn't a vignette to accompany the news about Petnov, but I can't find the drive to write one without being repetitive.)

BREAKING NEWS: Petnov's state deteriorating

Posted Image
Xerxes Kaminski offered a message of support for Petnov at a recent press conference

The news from Quinntropolis General Hospital is not good - Andrei Petnov's state is deteriorating at an ever increasing rate, according to staff at the hospital.

Petnov, who was hospitalised after a car crash just over two months ago, has remained mostly stable in a critical state. However, reports from Quinntropolis General's ICU (Intensive Care Unit) suggest that Petnov does not have long left to live. Consequently, various Commissars and Chief Commissars, including Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie, Xerxes Kaminski, Ivan Toralo and others, have been regularly visiting Petnov to offer their support.

Candlelight vigils have been organised to take place in every Quinntopian city, with the population of smaller towns and villages being allowed to organise their own vigils in support of Petnov. It is believed that most, if not all of the People's Government will be present at the Quinntropolis vigil.

More news on this as it comes in.

Quinntopia to participate in landmark CSTO-WARSAW talks

Posted Image
A photo of Quinntopian tanks during the recent conflict in Meche

Despite the recent conflict in Meche, as well as numerous other incidents that have created tension, both the CSTO and WARSAW have took to the Vicegerent of Rokkenjima's new approach of talks between the two factions to try and reduce tensions.

Princess Euphemia, the Vicegerent of Rokkenjima, has claimed that a key reason for the tensions and hostility between the CSTO and WARSAW is a "total lack of communications". These talks are to try and solve this. Even Chairman Brezhnev of the USR has agreed with Euphemia, stating that a lack of embassies on both sides is a contributing factor to the lack of communications, and therefore, the hostility between the two sides. The talks have received support from nations on both sides - even Zachachevania, which up until now had been considered a rogue state, has voiced its support for the talks. The People's Government is expected to release a public statement of support within the next day or so.

The neutral nations of Anayahland and the UNP have also supported the talks, which are planned to take place in Uppsala, the captial city of the UNP. However, Quinntopia reportedly has security concerns, which have been forwarded to the CSTO by Savely Yakovlev, Quinntopia's representative to the CSTO. This is understandable, since various Quinntopian delegations haven't had the most positive experience when attending a conference where WARSAW delegates are present. Nevertheless, the People's Paradise remains open to the talks, with Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie claiming that "past experiences with WARSAW will not blind our endeavours".

The talks represent a major turning point in CSTO-WARSAW relations, which in the past have been extremely negative and resulted in numerous conflicts and incidents which have undoubtedly damaged and harmed the international community and its stability. Hopefully these talks will herald a new era of global peace and co-operation, without either side being blinded by animosity or hatred.

What will these talks mean for Mundus? Only time will tell.

Quinntopia back to winning ways

Posted Image
Roma Romanov bagged both goals in Quinntopia's 2-0 win over Transvaal

After two nervous draws against Dyfedia and Dartfordia (1-1 and 0-0 respectively), Quinntopia are back to winning ways and back on top of Group D after they defeated Transvaal 2-0 at White Ridge Road.

The match was rather uneventful, with both sides happy to stay back. Quinntopia's "tiki-taka" style once again benefitted the side, however. Quinntopia enjoyed approximately 60% of possession and this first paid off in the 29th minute when Roma Romanov coolly finished into the bottom left corner after a blistering run from just past the halfway line. 1-0 was the score at half-time. Romanov doubled Quinntopia's lead in the 77th minute, this time a superb half-volley following an accurate cross from rising star Irakliy Sashov.

This, coupled with Dartfordia's recent wins, means that Quinntopia and Dartfordia have qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup, but quite where they'll finish is still unclear. If Quinntopia win, they will finish top of Group D, but if they draw or lose, they must hope that the Dartfordian team draws or loses their final match if they wanted to finish top of the group. If Quinntopia end as winners of Group D, they will face Rokkenjima for the first time on the international stage, whereas if they finish as runners-up, a "clash of the titans" is on the cards, as Quinntopia would play hosts Achkaerin in what would surely be a fantastic game of football.

Lakov has stated that he "doesn't mind" where Quinntopia finish in the Group, though many fans hope for Quinntopia to win Group D. He has also welcomed the prospect of a match against Achkaerin, claiming that "such a match would show who is the best team in international football at the moment," before jokingly adding "and we all know who that is". Quinntopia face one last obstacle before the knockout stages - Dyfedia. They are the only team Quinntopia are yet to beat at this tournament, but spirits are high, with Quinntopia boasting the best defensive record in the competition so far, having conceded only one goal in five games.

Stay tuned for more of CQBS' World Cup coverage!

Quinntopia sent crashing out of World Cup by hosts Achkaerin

Posted Image
Roma Romanov was visibly devastated after Quinntopia lost 5-4 to the hosts after extra time

Whenever Quinntopia go out of the World Cup, it always seems to be in heartbreaking fashion (i.e. suffering a defeat in extra time after an extremely hard-fought match), and today was no different - hosts Achkaerin defeated Quinntopia 5-4 AET (FT 4-4).

The match, touted as the "Clash of the Titans" did not disappoint. The match was hotly contested by both sides, neither of whom seemed to be able to hold onto a lead once it had been established. Neither side held more than a two-goal advantage over the other for the whole match, which is why this defeat was particularly heartbreaking for Quinntopian fans and players alike. The cameras showed many of these in tears after the final whistle, with Quinntopia having not lived up to the Culture Commissariat's minimum expectations of a place in the semi-finals.

Lakov was quieter than usual at the post-match press conference, during which he apologised on behalf of the team for "not putting the game to bed" and "not living up to the expectations of the fans and the Culture Commissariat". This now calls into question the security of Lakov's once-cushy job. Will he be sacked? Will he resign? Or will he be given a second chance?

There are many questions being asked about why this has happened. Some blame the departure of experienced players such as Albert Volkov and Matvei Silokov. Others blame a lack of tactical variety. Of course, everyone has blame to lay on someone, but the ultimate thing Quinntopians can take away from this is that the team is not unbeatable, though it is still a formidable force to be reckoned with.

What will this mean for Quinntopian football?

Lakov resigns following World Cup heartbreak

Posted Image
Lakov after the final whistle yesterday, looking deeply saddened

After an eight-year tenure as manager of the Quinntopian national football team, Oleg Lakov has tendered his official resignation from said position with Quinntopia still reeling from defeat in the World Cup.

In a brief statement during a press conference, here is what Lakov had to say:
Quote:

"I come before you today with important news. The team has enjoyed much success during my time here, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. We've finished as runners-up and then winners at the first two World Cups, and Quinntopia has established itself as one of the great footballing nations of Mundus. However, this year has been somewhat underwhelming - many of our experienced players have retired as their years advance, and we haven't lived up to expectations in the World Cup. Yes, we qualified for the knockout stages, but we didn't finish top of our group. We slipped up against teams we really should've won against. We didn't reach the semi-finals, as was expected of us.

It is because of this I feel I am no longer the right person to take the national team forward and as a result I hereby tender my official resignation as manager of the Quinntopian national side. It has been a great eight years, but my time here is up. I'd like to thank the staff, the players and the fans for all of the support and hard work they've given to the team and I cannot fault them for that. Hopefully the next person that is brought in is able to bring more success to the side, something which I feel I won't do.

That's all I have to say."

Rumours are already circulating about who will succeed Lakov as manager of the national side. The favourite to take the job is Quinntropolis F.C.'s Peter Aitorov, though other candidates include Iosif Karko, Remy Kokorin and Tito Frostanov (of which the latter is the only one who is current out of a job). Regardless of who the next manager is, Quinntopia's tiki-taka style of play is likely to remain in place considering the success it has brought in the past.

This resignation may have come at a bad time, with Quinntopian fans still in shock from their team's quarter-final defeat to the hosts of the tournament, Achkaerin. However, Chief Commissar of the Culture Commissariat Oleg Venedev has urged fans to be resilient during this time. Whether they will be resilient is yet to be seen.

So, what does this mean for Quinntopia's place on the international football stage? Only time will tell.

Quinntopia and the Slavic Federation begin discussions

Posted Image
President Vladimir Kalashnikov (R) of the Slavic Federation chats with Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie following his arrival

Historic talks between Communist Quinntopia and the Slavic Federation at the Skyscraper Citadel are now underway following the arrival of the Slavic delegation in Quinntropolis.

While Quinntopia has a violent history with the Federation's predecessor, the United Soviet Russia, Xerxes Kaminski, Acting Chief Commissar of the Foreign Affairs Commissariat, stated in a communiqué to Kalashnikov that "the People's Paradise is eager to rebuild relations between our two nations [Quinntopia and the Slavic Federation]", a sentiment repeated by Kaminski and echoed by Vinage-Sovetskie upon greeting President Kalashnikov following his arrival at the Skyscraper Citadel.

When asked what the People's Government aims to achieve from these talks, Vinage-Sovetskie remarked that "we're not expecting to be entering some formal alliance from day one, as that would be unrealistic. The People's Paradise merely wants to lay the foundations for a significant improvement in relations with the Slavic Federation - whether this means re-opening embassies, having joint space missions, trade deals or other such things is unclear at the moment, but will be decided in the conference room. Of course, the proletarians of Quinntopia shall be able to have their say on the matter through the People's Assembly before we commit to anything."

This is not the first diplomatic escapade the Slavic Federation has been on since it was founded. Slavic officials have met with their counterparts in Rokkenjima, Celtorusia and Transvaal, in addition to Quinntopia. Many hope that the fall of the USR will end an era of aggression, and that the Slavic Federation's diplomatic openness will only help to usher in a new era of global stability - something which has been in scarce supply over the past couple of years.

Will Quinntopia achieve its goals in regards to these talks? Only time will tell.

Mixed emotions for Quinntopia at start of IO Games

Posted Image
Quinntopian football fans were in full voice following Quinntopia's 6-1 thrashing of Vendosia

The opening day of the 2nd IO Games has proved to be a mixed bag - some Quinntopian athletes/teams performed well, whereas others proved to be unsuccessful.

There were a couple of things for Quinntopians to be pleased about - the Quinntopian national football team seem to be just as prolific here as in the World Cup, with their first game being a 6-1 thrashing of Vendosia, with many of Quinntopia's World Cup heroes such as Mesov, Nylund, Lagunov and Konstantinov featuring in the side. As usual, the Quinntopian fans were extremely passionate, backing the side all the way through the match in full voice. There were successes in the tennis too, with Roman Sokolov advancing to the next round in the men's tournament, and both Tatyana Pyotrova and Violetta Vasilyeva advancing in the women's tournament. All three of the successful Quinntopian tennis players defeated their opponents in straight sets.

However, there were also failures. The men's water polo team were drubbed 5-1 by their counterparts from the Slavic Federation. The Muggle Quidditch team lost to that of Orsus Iberia, despite catching the snitch. Quinntopia's male golfers came up short against Zachachevania. Additionally, Valeri Popov lost to his opponent in the men's tennis in straight sets, but put up an amazing fight, taking each set to a tie-breaker. Therefore, Quinntopian fans following these sports have a right to be rather disappointed.

Overall, the opening day of the IO Games was a mixed one for Quinntopia, but many hope that the nation can rally round and emulate the success of Team Quinntopia at the Winter Games, in which they topped the medal table. However, judging by the first day, Quinntopia may struggle to do that, though many of the events played were not Quinntopia's specialities. A significant number of Quinntopians believe that the country will begin to pick up more medals when the Athletics & Field, Weightlifting and Futsal tournaments come around. The football is looking good, as always, but something needs to be done about the other events.

Stay tuned for more CQBS coverage of the IO Games!

Quinntopia's poor start to the IO Games continues

Posted Image
Oleg Venedev was spotted at the Northfort Sports Academy Stadium, watching in horror at Team Quinntopia's poor performance

Quinntopia's poor start to the IO Games has continued into the third day of events, with Quinntopia now being the only nation yet to win a gold medal.

Quinntopia lies at the foot of the medal table, with a meagre total of three medals (two silver, one bronze). It has taken many Quinntopians by surprise, whose expectations were rather high going into the games following Quinntopia's consistently good performances at both the World Cup and the Winter Games. After watching the first few days of this competition, though, one thing is clear - Quinntopia needs to do something about its hitherto dreadful performance in this edition of the IO Games.

Day Two: Quinntopia managed two silver medals in the swimming and the women's football team defeated that of Transvaal 4-2 on day two, but otherwise the athletes representing Quinntopia have failed miserably to make any sort of considerable impression on the competition. The women's water polo team shared the fate of their male counterparts, losing 3-2 to the Slavic Federation. Quinntopia's spirits were raised following a 4-1 defeat of Transvaal in the men's floorball, but the men's handball team lost 5-3 to Dijel soon afterwards - Dijel also defeated Quinntopia's men's lacrosse team 2-0. One of the women's golf teams advanced to the next round, beating the Slavic Federation 3&2, but the other lost 3&2 to Tytor. The men's doubles tennis proved to be a similar story, with one team progressing and one team crashing out. The women's and mixed doubles fared better, with both teams going through. Additionally, the Muggle Quidditch team notched their first win of the competition, though their opponents, the SEN, caught the snitch.

Day Three: The day three swimming events were a catastrophe, and in the weightlifting, considered one of Quinntopia's specialities, there were only three top 8 finishes for the country. The men's 56kg and the men's 105+kg events were particularly hard to take, with Quinntopia's athletes missing out by 1kg and 2kg respectively. Quinntopia's shooters also came close to medals, but to no avail. The Star Class sailing team did manage to get a bronze medal on this day of shocking performances, although it has done little to alter Quinntopia's standing in the medal table. The gymnastics was also a downside for Team Quinntopia, as was the hockey. Buoying the spirits of fans yet again were the ball sports teams, with the women's floorball team beating Aeternum 3-1 and the women's handball team beating hosts East Moreland 5-3. Both beach volleyball teams and all of Quinntopia's squash teams won their respective matches. Additionally, Roman Sokolov and Violetta Vasilyeva qualified for the next round in the tennis, but Tatyana Pyotrova was knocked out. On the other hand, both the men and women of Quinntopia lost in the conventional volleyball.

Overall, the IO Games have been nothing less than torture for the Quinntopian fans, who can now only hope that the nation's fortunes will improve. Stay tuned for more IO Games coverage!

Massive improvement on Day Four of IO Games

Posted Image
Xiomara Danielsson lifts the weights during her gold medal-winning performance in the Women's 69kg category

Team Quinntopia has performed far better on Day Four of the IO Games, winning a total of six medals, four of which were gold medals (Quinntopia also won one silver and one bronze medal in today's events).

Two of Quinntopia's gold medals came in the weightlifting, with Penelope Chenkova and Xiomara Danielsson winning gold in their respective categories, lifting 197kg and 254kg respectively. One came in the swimming, where the men's 4x100m Medley Relay team finished first, but only by three tenths of a second. The final gold came in the sailing, where Quinntopia's athletes finished 1st in the Women's Laser Class. Quinntopia's silver medal came in the Women's 4x200m Medley Relay, and the bronze came in the Women's 75kg+ weightlifting.

Other successes include the men's basketball team defeating that of the SEN in a close encounter, winning 45-42. The men's floorball team beat their Aeternumese counterparts 2-0. The women's hockey team trounced the UNP 5-1. Additionally, the men's lacrosse narrowly beat Vendosia 2-1, and the men's baseball team came out on top in their match, beating Fahrland 4-1. The men's beach volleyball also went well, with Quinntopia beating Tytor in a ding-dong battle, and their female counterparts went through after defeating Aeternum. One of the highlights of the day was all of Quinntopia's remaining doubles tennis teams progressing to the next round. The women's squash doubles team also advanced. The table tennis also went well with both the men's and women's teams winning their matches.

However there were, as always, some downsides. Quinntopia just missed out on bronze in the men's 10m Pistol shooting, and the men's Rugby Sevens side narrowly lost 15-12 to Achkaerin. Furthermore, Zachachevania's female golfers beat Quinntopia's remaining team 2&1. The men's and mixed squash doubles teams were both knocked out, losing to Tytor and Rokkenjima respectively.

With Quinntopia finally ending its gold medal drought at this edition of the IO Games, as well as hugely improving its level of performance in general, Day Four could prove to be a turning point for Quinntopia. Stay tuned for yet more coverage of the IO Games from CQBS!

Security and Intelligence Commissariat raises threat level to highest level

Posted Image
The raised threat level has led to an increase in the numbers of armed police on Quinntopia's streets

Following the "Day of Terror", in which multiple nations across Mundus came under attack in various ways from terrorists, the Security and Intelligence Commissariat has raised Quinntopia's Terrorist Threat Level (TTL) to Critical - the highest possible level of the TTL.

Following the mulitple attacks on nations across Mundus, such as Rokkenjima, East Moreland and Dartfordia, Teodors Ozolinsh, Chief Commissar of the Security and Intelligence Commissariat, announced earlier today that the TTL had been raised to Critical, adding that "the security and safety of our nation is most certainly at risk following the barbaric acts committed across the globe."

He went on to say that "Quinntopians should have no reason to be fearful, though, as our police service and Comrade soldiers shall stand guard against these terrorists for as long as it is necessary to do so. Military and police presense on our streets, particularly that of armed police, will be increased, but this is entirely for ensuring the safety of Quinntopia's proletarians."

Many Quinntopians have been worried by the recent terror attacks, with a staggering 83% believing that Quinntopia would be the next nation, or at least one of the next nations, to suffer a terrorist attack. Proletarians are being encouraged only to travel if necessary - travelling to work or food shopping, for example, so as to reduce the risk to Quinntopian lives should such an attack occur. Nevertheless, people are understandably anxious in these times.

Basically, there is one question on everyone's lips: is Quinntopia safe?

IN OTHER NEWS:
  • Team Quinntopia up to 5th in the IO Games Medal Table with 39 medals (16 gold, 11 silver, 12 bronze)
    • Quinntopia takes gold in various events, though bronze and gold medals in men's and women's football respectively raise spirits the most
  • Commonwealth Conference underway at Perlesa Manor in Rokkenjima
    • Quinntopia intends to be a 'leading force' in the creation of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation, according to the Foreign Affairs Commissariat
  • Slavic-Quinntopian diplomatic talks continue
    • Plans to immediately re-open embassies after the conclusion of the talks set in motion

Industry Commissariat announces plans for new state-owned company

Posted Image
Mihaylov stated that Quinntopia 'must endeavour to keep up technologically with other nations at all costs'

Earlier today, it was revealed by Silvio Mihaylov, Chief Commissar of the Industry Commissariat, that Quinntopia will establish a new state-owned super-company to rival the rise of foreign super-corporations such as Abstergo, Aperture and Riviere.

Though a name for the new company has not yet been adopted, Mihaylov did reveal that it would focus on research and development in the spheres of medicine/pharmaceuticals, military armaments and advanced technology. Mihaylov went on to say that "the fact that this new company shall be state-owned presents multiple benefits for Quinntopia - most importantly it means that the profits that this company makes will go straight into Quinntopia's coffers rather than the pockets of greedy corporatists. This will allow us to re-invest that money in the progression of the People's Paradise."

The announcement has done something to quell rising concerns among Quinntopians that the scope of foreign super-corporations could mean that Quinntopia might be left behind in the technological stakes. Mihaylov has long rejected any idea of Quinntopia falling by the wayside on a technological basis, and further rebuffed any idea of such a thing happening in his statement, claiming that "with a greater focus on advanced technology, Quinntopia will be able to match the technological prowess of other nations. We must endeavour to keep up technologically with other nations at all costs."

Many believe that the new super-company will prove to be of great benefit to the nation, mostly due to the number of jobs it will potentially create and what the company intends to focus on. They are also glad that the People's Government seems to have found a way of matching the rising super-corporations without letting corporatism take a sufficient enough hold to contradict Quinntopian ideology. Whether this will prove to be the case remains to be seen, of course, but for now the proletariat is very optimistic following the statement from the Industry Commissariat, and awaits the official creation of the company.

What will this mean for Quinntopia? Only time will tell.

IN OTHER NEWS:
  • Team Quinntopia finishes 5th at IO Games, with 59 medals in total (24 gold, 18 silver, 19 bronze)
    • Oleg Venedev extends Culture Commissariat's congratulations to the athletes upon their return to Quinntopia
  • TTL remains at Critical

Industry Commissariat launches Cerberus Collective

Posted Image
The logo of the state-owned Cerberus Collective

The Industry Commissariat has announced the launch of the state-owned company that it revealed plans for in a recent press conference - the company shall officially be known as the Cerberus Collective.

Also simply known as Cerberus, the company, as stated in a past CQBS report, will focus on research and development in medicine, military armaments and advanced technology. Cerberus has already rolled out multiple new concepts that are in the works, such as an unmanned stealth bomber, known as the CER-1 Condor, and a rifle capable of firing around corners - developments which the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces will likely put to good use. Although Cerberus' first plans are for military hardware, the Industry Commissariat has assured the populace that civilian technologies will also be produced simultaneously, mainly focusing on wearable technology.

The construction of Cerberus factories and offices is already underway in multiple Quinntopian towns and cities, which is predicted to create thousands of jobs for Quinntopian proletarians. The Industry Commissariat has also stated that Cerberus is willing to co-operate with foreign companies to provide further trade and diplomatic opportunities for Quinntopia. Whether this means that foreign super-corporations will become increasingly present in Quinntopia is unclear, and is something which Quinntopians will want to have definitive answers to before any deals are put in place.

So far, Cerberus has been received well by the proletarians of Quinntopia, who are pleased about both the employment opportunities it creates for them and the benefits it could potentially bring for Quinntopia. It is expected that over the next few months Cerberus will be showcasing and releasing numerous new products. Some have even proposed the idea of an annual expo for Cerberus to tout its wares to potential foreign buyers. It is still early days yet, however, and Cerberus has a long way to go before it reaches the heights of other super-companies. Nevertheless, the developments thus far have been very promising indeed.

So, what will the consequences be for Quinntopia? Will they be beneficial, or will they be damaging?

Transport and Tourism Commissariat to bring Hyperloop to Quinntopia

Posted Image
Hyperloop will replace plans for a national MagLev network

Anna Culés announced in a press conference earlier today that the Transport and Tourism Commissariat has struck a deal with Dartfordian company LS-Railways to implement a nation-wide Hyperloop network in Quinntopia.

In an effort to massively reduce travel times across Quinntopia, the People's Paradise shall be paying LS-Railways the princely sum of £60-70 billion (approx. C₡260-305 billion) to install a national Hyperloop network. It is claimed that the price is higher than what it would usually be, as additional protection against the harsh Quinntopian winter must be implemented. The network shall connect Quinntopia's major cities, promising to make cross-country travel much easier and much quicker for Quinntopians. The original plans for a nation-wide MagLev network were predicted to be monstrously expensive, so the Transport and Tourism Commissariat explored other avenues. Thankfully the relative cheapness of Hyperloop compared to MagLev gave the Commissariat exactly what it was looking for, which explains the positive public reaction to the deal/plans so far.

This will be the world's third major Hyperloop network, following on from the original Dartfordian network and the planned Rokkenjiman network. LS-Railways will be overseeing the construction of the network, whilst the service shall be run by predominantly Quinntopian employees, though jobs are open to other Cross-Straits workers. It is likely that most of the Cross-Straits employees involved in Quinntopia's Hyperloop network will be Dartfordian due to their involvement in the construction of the network. The Quinntopian Hyperloop will also be the largest and most expensive Hyperloop network up to this point, far surpassing the size of its Dartfordian and Rokkenjiman counterparts.

The project is expected to take a few months at least and the network is predicted to be up and running by the end of this year, perhaps after the turn of the new year at the very latest. Many feel that the network will provide economic benefits for Quinntopia due to the increased opportunities for people to connect with those far away from them (for example, a person from Northania will find it much easier to meet another person in Sontaporta) - in essence, it will allow for a more integrated and efficient economy. This may finally see the Communist Credit strengthen, something which Quinntopians have long been hoping for.

Will the introduction of Hyperloop technology benefit Quinntopia? Only time will tell.

Cerberus announces first venture into wearable technology

Posted Image
Commissar Fyodor Fiero, who was selected as Cerberus' CEO[1] by other Industry Commissars, revealed plans for Cyberus earlier today

In the first press conference since the establishment of the Cerberus Collective, the company announced that it was making its first foray into wearable technology, officially making public its plans for a project known as Cyberus.

Cyberus, in essence, is a pair of glasses which will combine real-world and computer-generated imagery in the immediate view of the wearer. Cerberus claims that this will allow said wearer to perform a multitude of tasks, including (but not limited to) checking various websites, be they social media, news or otherwise, making video calls to others and even playing games without having to sit down in front of a PC or console. Cyberus will run on Cerberus' inaugural operating system, CerberOS, which will use an app-based format to "allow users to navigate the various areas of Cyberus with ease", as put by Fiero.

Though the project is still in the design/concept stage, the news has been met with great excitement, due to what some are calling Cyberus' 'pioneering nature'. Cerberus has latched onto this and has stated that it is "committed to innovation in the field of technology". The technology is expected to be ready for release within the next few months, if everything goes to plan. Should there be any delays, Cyberus' release date would probably be towards the end of the year, and perhaps after the turn of the new year if the project encounters serious problems.

During the press conference, Fiero went on to state what he thought about Cyberus: "I think it is a superb idea myself," he said, "of course, everyone can submit their own ideas and everyone involved in Cerberus then gets to vote on their favourite - and Cyberus came out on top. People will be astonished by what Cyberus is capable of doing and I personally cannot wait for its release. I would even go so far as to say it could be a world-changing piece of technology, but we have to wait and see if the prototypes are given the green light and we'll have to see how they perform in trials. Nevertheless, if Cyberus passes that stage, then I can't see anything stopping it from being released."

So, will Cyberus prove to be as world-changing as Fiero thinks it can be? We'll find out in a few months!
[1] In a similar way to Chief Commissars, the CEO of Cerberus (or any Quinntopian company for that matter) is simply a spokesperson for said company and does not hold any additional powers over others in the company

Cerberus addresses concerns of Reformed Peoples' Party

Posted Image
Fiero: "The RPP has completely misunderstood the situation regarding Cerberus"

Fyodor Fiero today issued a statement in response to the less-than-complimentary statement by the Dijel's Reformed Peoples' Party (RPP) which called Cerberus 'a complete rejection of socialist values'.

Here is what he had to say:
Quote:

"I am sure that many have read the recent statement from the Reformed People's Party condemning the rise of so-called 'mega-corporations'. They have expressed concerns that these companies will have an overbearing influence on the international economy and could lead to the demise of homegrown businesses in the nations affected. These concerns, of course, must be addressed, which is why I am sat here today.

Let me be the first to assure the RPP that Cerberus has no intention of pushing aside homegrown companies for its own benefit. As stated when Cerberus was established, we are willing to co-operate with foreign businesses. Whilst this is indeed to create greater trade and diplomatic opportunities for Quinntopia, it is also to ensure that they are not irreparably damaged. We do not wish to be overbearing to foreign companies in any way whatsoever. This is because we do not plan to build factories or offices across the globe, but to simply sell our goods in foreign nations.

In fact, the RPP has completely misunderstood the situation regarding Cerberus. It claims that Cerberus represents a 'complete rejection of socialist values' - well, let us not forget that Quinntopia's proletarians, through the People's Assembly, passed the proposal for Cerberus to be established, therefore Cerberus is a product of the will of the Quinntopian people. This company is also state-owned, therefore our profits do not go into the pockets of a select few, but the nation as a whole.

We shall also work to ensure that public wellbeing is not damaged, and hereby pledge our support to the campaign for increased protection for homegrown companies against foreign organisations. Part of our work, i.e. research and development in medicine and advanced technology, is to increase the standard of living of as many people as we can. Surely the development of new medicines will be beneficial to public wellbeing rather than a hindrance to it?

Nevertheless, Cerberus understands the concerns of the RPP, as well as those of other Dijeli leftists, and we can assure everyone that we will not disregard the needs of the public. Anyone here will tell you that Quinntopia remains committed to the proletariat and communism in general, and has merely established Cerberus not only as an experiment, but to prevent Quinntopia from falling behind her allies and thereby not being a good comrade itself.

I hope that this has explained things."

Will the developments in Dijel prove to be an obstacle to Cerberus?

Vinage-Sovetskie slams "disgraceful" Zachachevanian executions

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie: "Chairman Rosocor's regime is a farce and a sham, and clearly has little to no regard for human existence"

Following a report from Zachachevania regarding the execution of 523 of its citizens (who were supposedly hoping to flee to Ndambia), Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie issued a strongly-worded statement condemning the actions of Chairman Rosocor.

Here is what he had to say:
Quote:

"Comrades,

The news coming out of Zachachevania today is disturbing to say the least. Quinntopia cannot accurately put into words how appalled we are by the Zachachevanian government's continued disregard for the lives of its citizens. The execution of 523 innocent proletarians for simply wanting to free themselves from the oppressive totalitarian government of Zachachevania is absolutely disgraceful. The international community should not, nay, must not stand for such an abhorrence.

Chairman Rosocor's regime is a farce and a sham, and clearly has little to no regard for human existence. His ridiculous antics are a blight on the nation of Zachachevania and Mundus as a whole. Not only does he not care for the lives of Zachachevania's proletarians, but he also seems to make terrible, juvenile decisions purely to spite and bait the international community. It is no wonder that we Quinntopians, as well as our comrades in Rokkenjima among others, have branded Zachachevania as a rogue state and a sponsor of terrorism.

Furthermore, the Chairman and his government continue to make infantile claims that Rokkenjima is funding resistance movements inside Zachachevania - this is yet another example of the hilariously misguided propaganda that we have come to expect from Rosocor's regime. The People's Paradise sympathises with the people of Zachachevania who must endure this and other highly unsavoury element's of their nation's government with little hope of a better life. With that in mind, Quinntopia will offer asylum to refugees from Zachachevania who have fled from the brutality of Chairman Rosocor.

With the beginning of a new era of international co-operation, I would expect that the rest of the international community is just as appalled as Quinntopia is by this news, and Chairman Rosocor should expect to come under even more international pressure as a result. We do not want war, but simply want to force Zachachevania to back down and put an end to the wanton murder of its citizens.

Zachachevania is already the target of numerous sanctions from multiple nations, and the reports coming out of there shall only make Quinntopia strengthen its sanctions. The Chairman must not be allowed to continue acting in the way he is currently doing otherwise I fear there will be no people left in Zachachevania by the time he's finished. The People's Paradise calls upon the international community to join us in strengthening the sanctions currently imposed on Zachachevania.

Quinntopia hopes for a swift resolution to this issue and maintains that international co-operation will be the best way to bring that about.

That is all."

So, will the international community heed Vinage-Sovetskie's call? What will this mean for Quinntopia? Only time will tell.

BREAKING NEWS: Quinntopia to dispatch naval vessels to Ardian Gulf

Posted Image
PS Hades on its way to the Ardian Gulf

Ivan Toralo, Chief Commissar of the War Commissariat, announced earlier today that the People's Revolutionary Navy would be joining their Rokkenjiman counterparts in sending vessels to the Ardian Gulf to put pressure on the Rosocor regime.

Here is his brief statement:
Quote:

"Comrades, the People's Assembly has voted.

The People's Revolutionary Navy shall dispatch a Task Force, hereby known as Task Force Relentless, to the Ardian Gulf. This is to ensure the safety of international shipping passing through the Sea of Kyne. We cannot allow Zachachevania to pose a threat to trade routes, otherwise the international community as a whole will feel the damage. Because of this, the Task Force will remain anchored in the Gulf until Chairman Rosocor ceases his genocidal antics. Instability is something Mundus could well do without, especially off the back of two global conflicts.

The People's Paradise is also grateful to the First Empire of Rokkenjima and the Democratic Socialist Principaltiy of Nueva Ardia for heeding our call to strengthen sanctions and add to the mounting pressure on the Rosocor regime. As a result, we shall join them in their deployment of vessels to the Gulf in a show of solidarity. This is not the only reason, however - we are bound by our membership in the Ardian Entente to ensure that "the Ardian Continent stands free of tyranny". This can only be achieved by standing up to tyrants such as Chairman Rosocor in this way.

Quinntopia is willing to do whatever is necessary to prevent the unpredictability of Zachachevania from causing a major threat to international peace and stability. Comrade Vinage-Sovetskie stated that we do not want war, but we will defend ourselves if fired upon. Otherwise we will support our Rokkenjiman comrades in applying diplomatic, economic and military pressure on Zachachevania.

May this dispute be brought to a swift end. That is all."

So, will the tensions currently building up between Zachachevania and other Ardian nations become threatening to Ardian stability? Mundus awaits the answer.

Vinage-Sovetskie defends Rokkenjima, announces Quinntopian involvement in Operation Carrier Pigeon

Vinage-Sovetskie: "Quinntopia will not stand idly by whilst our steadfast comrades are slandered in such a pathetic, infantile way"

In a statement made earlier today, Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie defended Rokkenjima following the latest Zachachevanian propaganda attack against the First Empire, and revealed that Quinntopia will take part in Operation Carrier Pigeon.

Speaking about Rokkenjima, he said "For some reason, Chairman Rosocor seems to think that the Rokkenjimans are orchestrating everything that goes wrong in and around Zachachevania. Well, he could not be more wrong. Quinntopia will not stand idly by whilst our steadfast comrades are slandered in such a pathetic, infantile way," going on to add, "let us not forget that although the Rokkenjimans were first to deploy naval vessels to the Ardian Gulf it was Quinntopia who made the initial call for action against the Rosocor regime's execution of 523 innocent proletarians."

Vinage-Sovetskie went on to reveal that Quinntopia would be participating in Operation Carrier Pigeon. He stated that "Department 98 and the Security and Intelligence Commissariat will be working in conjunction with CQBS to bring Quinntopian radio to the people of Zachachevania. CQBS will be dedicating surplus radio masts to Operation Carrier Pigeon, and in addition to this our battleships in the Ardian Gulf will be broadcasting various Quinntopian radio stations. The People's Revolutionary Air Force has also explored the possibility of dropping newspapers and pamphlets into Zachachevania's cities to bring news from the outside world to the oppressed proletarians of Zachachevania."

Furthermore, Vinage-Sovetskie went on to condemn the newest regulations and decrees implemented by Chairman Rosocor. "The latest round of regulations put in place by the Chairman only prove further that Zachachevania is about as far from a communist nation as you can get. No truly communist nation would treat the proletariat in such a disgusting way. As usual, the people of Zachachevania are made to suffer because of Chairman Rosocor's vile acts."

The tensions in Ardia seem to be well and truly near boiling point. What will this mean for Quinntopia and her comrades?

Sikarov announces new trade deal with Nueva Ardia

Posted Image
Tørsten Sikarov revealing the news at a press conference

It was revealed earlier today by Chief Commissar of the Trade Commissariat Tørsten Sikarov that Quinntopia has entered into a new trade deal with the Democratic Socialist Principaltiy of Nueva Ardia.

The deal, of which the People's Republic of Vendosia is also a part, will, in the words of Nueva Ardia's Chancellry of Economics, "be a trade of resource in exchange for resource, the exchange of goods and commodities between the people of these nations and their unions." The trade deal has reportedly been struck so that proletarians in all three nations can enjoy better lives and that capitalists and the bourgeoisie cannot exploit the proletarians of the nations involved.

Though the trade deal is still in its early days, Sikarov has hailed it as "another great leap forward for the progressive peoples of the Left" and "a system which shall be of great benefit to the proletariat". Sikarov went on to state that whilst Quinntopia does not want capitalism to take hold in the country, it welcomes the possibility of similar trade deals (i.e. trade deals not primarily geared towards profit) with other nations. A decision is yet to be made on the commodities which shall be traded, but this can be expected in the near future.

This new trade deal would appear to represent a more united leftist front following the divisions experienced formerly between WARSAW and nations such as Themata and our own, despite the rapidly deteriorating situation in Zachachevania. Whether this will prove to be the case is unclear at the moment, though Sikarov remains optomisitic about the deal, as do most Quinntopians - this is reflected by the fact the People's Assembly passed the proposal for Quinntopia to become involved in the trade deal.

Will this trade deal prove to be as beneficial to Quinntopia as the Trade Commissariat predicts it to be?

Tatyana Pyotrova wins Dyfedian Open

Posted Image
Pyotrova lifts the trophy aloft following her victory over Dyfedia's Rebecca Lawrie

Tatyana Pyotrova has won the Women's Championship of the Dyfedian Open after beating Rebecca Lawrie, who is from the host nation, 3-6 6-2 6-4 in the final.

Pyotrova wasn't looking at her best in the first set, although she managed to keep the gap between her and Lawrie somewhat tight before Lawrie stormed ahead to take the first set 6-3. However, Pyotrova rallied following this early setback, winning the second set easily by a comfortable margin of 6-2. Both ladies were going all-out for victory in the final set, with games going either way until Pyotrova dug deep and won the final two games to win the set 6-4, and with it the match and the championship.

Pyotrova's compatriot and fellow female competitor Violetta Vasilyeva was knocked out in the quarter-finals, losing to Dyfedia's Alice Stosur in straight sets, whilst both male competitors failed to make it past the first round. Pyotrova spoke of her "immense pride" after the match, dedicating the victory to, as she put it, the "fantastic" Quinntopian fans, who "steadfastly supported all of Quinntopia's competitors throughout the competition".

Victory at the Dyfedian Open has put Pyotrova 4th in the MFTA Women's Rankings, just 30 points behind Violetta Vasilyeva, who is 3rd in the rankings. The failure of both men in the first round means that there are still no Quinntopians in the top 10 of the Men's Rankings. Oleg Venedev, Chief Commissar of the Culture Commissariat, personally congratulated Pyotrova on her success, publicly stating that he "hopes for the winning trend to continue".

Congratulations, Tatyana!

Cerberus begins development of weapon capable of firing round corners

Posted Image
The CER-55 "Periscope" is predicted to be made available within the next few months

The Cerberus Collective has announced that their plan to create a weapon capable of firing around corners and other such obstacles has passed the concept/design phase and is now beginning the development phase.

Cerberus claims the weapon, known as the CER-55 "Periscope", will be made in four variations. The standard model will use a semi-automatic pistol, with the other variants employing a 40mm grenade launcher, an assault pistol rifle (APR), and even an anti-tank rocket launcher. The actual weapon is located on the front piece, along with a camera and torch, with a screen (linked to the camera, of course) and the trigger located on the rear. The "Periscope" is capable of a 60-degree bend thanks to the hinges attaching the two parts of the weapon. On the anti-tank variant, the weapon is capable of firing perpendicular to the firer. Naturally, the weapon can also fire in the direction the firer is facing.

Cerberus CEO Fyodor Fiero called the weapon "a superb innovation which will bring great benefits to the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces and CSTO militaries on the whole", citing the possible reduction of casualties due to the firer being able to accurately attack enemies without relinquishing cover. Fiero was also open to the possibility of armed police units being given access to the CER-55 in particularly difficult and/or dangerous operations. Fiero revealed that initially only the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces will have access to the CER-55, with other CSTO armies having the option to either purchase the weapons themselves or a licence to produce the CER-55.

This latest announcement follows news from Cerberus regarding the CER-1 Condor, which is, according to official reports, is also close to being ready for use by the People's Revolutionary Air Force. The Condor is nearing the end of rigorous testing - according to Cerberus, said tests have "exceeded expectations". Meanwhile, development of Cerberus' first civilian technology, Cyberus is still ongoing although this also has the possibility to be released within the next few months, though it is more likely that it will be released towards the end of the year.

Will Cerberus' latest inventions prove to be beneficial?

MCUR must not be forced onto non-signatories, says Vinage-Sovetskie

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie: "To punish those who simply cannot afford to sign the MCUR is wholly unfair"

In what could turn out to be a controversial statement, Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie today criticised Rokkenjima's decision to impose trade and financial restrictions on non-signatory nations of the MCUR, branding such restrictions as "unfair" and "prohibitive to progress".

This comes after the aforementioned Rokkenjiman announcement, publicised by the Rokkenjima Broadcasting Corporation, announcing trade and financial restrictions on non-MCUR signatories including, but not limited to, a total ban on the transfer of military equipment and civilian nuclear fuel and technology. Rokkenjiman business will also not provide the same services in non-MCUR signatory nations as they do in MCUR signatory nations, and Rokkenjiman investment in non-MCUR signatories will also be limited. The decision seems to be directly aimed at Albion to try to effectively force the non-MCUR signatories there to sign.

Speaking in front of the press earlier today, here is his statement.
Quote:

"Comrades,

We have observed the situation developing in Albion regarding Universal Rights for some time, and whilst Quinntopia is disheartened by the lack of progress on that front and hopes that soon the MCUR will be signed by non-signatory nations of the MCUR, the People's Paradise does not feel that the Rokkenjiman approach of imposing trade and financial restrictions on non-MCUR signatories is the correct way to solve the problem.

For example, just because a nation has not signed the MCUR, that does not automatically classify said nation as fascist or tyrannical. Whilst this may be the case in some nations, such as Zachachevania, it is more common that a non-MCUR signatory just doesn't have the financial muscle to sign, for reasons such as not being able to afford to implement universal healthcare and free primary and secondary education. To punish those who simply cannot afford to sign the MCUR is wholly unfair, and the restrictions imposed by the First Empire will only be prohibitive to progress in the affected nations due to the detrimental effect such restrictions will have on the economies of said nations.

It is sometimes the case that an impoverished nation, or a nation with lower levels of income compared to others, wants to sign the MCUR but cannot afford to. That is why restrictions must not be imposed - instead, if the nation in question is not a known sponsor of terrorism, or a perpetrator of genocide or other human rights abuses, the restrictions should be lifted from that nation, or the Mundus Development Bank could provide a loan to the nation in question, and once the nation has strengthen its economy to a level where it can both afford the changes the MCUR would implement and maintain the status quo in other areas of their country. One only has to look at Odmony for a nation which wishes to sign the document but would be unable to cope financially with signing it.

The People's Paradise supports giving non-MCUR signatories active encouragement to sign, however it does not believe in forcing them to do so. By doing the latter, Rokkenjima risks destabilising the economies of multiple nations who, for the most part, have committed no human rights abuses or atrocities - again, Odmony serves as an example of this, making it totally understandable why they have made their case to be exempt from the Rokkenjiman restrictions.

We Quinntopians would usually support our Rokkenjiman comrades, however because their restrictions pose a threat to the standard of living for proletarians in innocent countries who are already enduring difficult times, we simply cannot support Rokkenjima's stance on the matter this time. Admittedly, most times the First Empire uses its undeniable influence on the world stage for good, but we feel that this is not one of those times.

That is all."

This statement could add to the already rising tensions in Albion not only surrounding the MCUR debate but also the Dartfordian/Rokkenjiman exercises near Dauntel. What will this mean for Quinntopia? And how will these issues be solved?

Mundus Champions' League: Group Stage draw

Posted Image
Four Quinntopian teams were involved in the draw

The draw for the Group Stage of the Mundus Champions' League (MCL) has taken place, with Quinntopians having relatively high expectations for the four Quinntopian teams competing in the competition.

Here are the results of the draw, with the four Quinntopian teams in bold:

2015 Mundus Champions League - Group Stage
Group A

Spitelout Athletic
Northfort United
Carolina City
Braz Rovers
Group B

Haifa United
Avalon F.C
Marantha F.C
Antwerp United
Group C

Sporting Karanack
Viva F.C
Portworth Mariners
Northania P.F.C
Group D

Alunda United
Tel-Aviv United
Leonaise F.C
Chupacabras
Group E

Pretoria F.C
Braz Athletic
Berk Wanderers
Roberton F.C
Group F

Emancipa United
Djana-Ville Wanderers
IFK Krokom
Dijelibeybi F.C
Group G

Quinntropolis F.C
Tsort Athletic
Conquistadores
Nome City
Group H

Valtheim United
Eilat Strikers
Royal F.C
Harchester United

Marantha F.C. find themselves placed in a group with Haifa United of Eretz Yacov, Avalon F.C. of Achkaerin and Antwerp United of Transvaal. Based on bookmakers' odds and performances at previous World Cups, most Quinntopians expect Avalon F.C. to pose the only formidable opposition in Group B, though Haifa and Antwerp are not to be underestimated. Nevertheless, many expect Marantha F.C. to easily qualify for the knockouts. Meanwhile, Northania P.F.C., the surprise performers in the 2013/14 Quinntopian Premier League season, find themselves in Group C, along with Sporting Karanack of Dijel, Viva F.C. of Dartfordia and moneybags Portworth Mariners of East Moreland. Some expect Portworth to pose the biggest threat simply due to their financial muscle, though Northania P.F.C. are predicted to at least qualify for the knockout stage somewhat easily.

Emancipa United are grouped in Group F with Djana-Ville Wanderers of Achkaerin, IFK Krokom of the UNP and Dijelibeybi F.C. of Dijel. Emancipa United, out of the four Quinntopian teams, are the ones who are seen to have the biggest challenge to qualify for the knockouts, with relatively strong opposition in the form of Djana-Ville Wanderers and Dijelibeybi. Finally, 2013/14 Quinntopian champions Quinntropolis F.C. have been placed in Group G, with Tsort Athletic of Dijel, Conquistadores of Nueva Ardia and Nome City of Dartfordia. Nueva Ardian runners-up Conquistadores are seen as the atrongest opposition Quinntropolis F.C. will face, though many expect Quinntropolis to go far in the competition, sporting the likes of World Cup stars Artyom Mesov and Zydra Nylund.

All in all, Quinntopians are largely optimistic about the chances of the four Quinntopian teams involved in the MCL this year. Despite the high expectations, all four managers have made statements along the lines of not allowing the pressure to get to them. Among the Quinntopian teams, Quinntropolis F.C. are strong favourites to win the competition, and along with Marantha F.C. are also among the frontrunners in terms of all 32 teams. The other two teams both have decent odds but are not as highly expected to win the competition as Quinntropolis and Marantha. Their fans, instead, only want to see their sides progress as far as possible in the competition.

Stay tuned for CQBS coverage of Matchday 1 of the Mundus Champions' League in the near future!

All four Quinntopian teams through to Champions League knockouts as group winners

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
(Left to right): Aitorov, Karko, Kokorin and Maratov are all ready for the march towards the final

In what Chief Commissar of the Culture Commissariat Oleg Venedev is calling "a great success for Quinntopian football", all four of the Quinntopian football clubs participating in the Mundus Champions League have qualified for the knockout stage as winners of their respective groups.

Marantha F.C. qualified as Group B winners, picking up 15 points with five wins and one loss - the defeat in question was to bottom-of-the-group Antwerp United in Antwerp, though the highlight of Marantha's group stage success was their 5-1 thrashing of the same team at Kraken Road. In the post-match interview of Marantha's final group match (a 2-1 victory over Achkaerin's Avalon F.C.), Karko praised his side's defensive record, stating "as long as we can keep scoring at one end and prevent the other team doing so at the other end, then we'll do well. That's why we've only conceded four goals so far, and I hope the lads can continue in the same vein of form." Marantha are up against Group F runners-up IFK Krokom in the round of 16, with the first leg being played in Marantha.

Northania P.F.C. boast the best defensive record in the competition so far, having only conceded two goals in their overall victory in Group C. They also won five and lost one, losing 1-0 to Portworth Mariners on Matchday One. The best moment of their group stage campaign was their 5-0 drubbing of Viva F.C. in Dartfordia. Northania have been drawn against Group H runners-up Eilat Strikers (of Eretz Yacov), with the first leg being played away from home. Manager Remy Kokorin claimed in a recent press conference that "tactically, I think we are very sound and if we keep working on our tactical knowledge, as well as our general abilities, then I think Northania is in with a chance." Meanwhile, Emancipa United took the top spot in Group F with three wins, two draws and one defeat. Despite losing 3-1 to IFK Krokom and conceding nine goals in six games, Maratov remains positive, as he recently said "it does not matter how many goals we concede. As long as we can outscore our opponents and win games that is fine by me." Emancipa will play Group B runners-up Avalon F.C. in the last 16, with the first leg being held at the Vedovski Arena.

Finally, Quinntropolis F.C. emerged as the winners of Group G following four victories, one draw and one loss. Peter Aitorov has stated that he is expecting Quinntopia's World Cup stars Artyom Mesov and Zydra Nylund, as well as other key players in the team, to step up to the plate and propel Quinntropolis through the knockout stages, and hopefully to victory in the final. "Artyom and Zydra have regularly been fantastic for us," he said, "and it should be no different now as we progress into the knockout stage. They will provide a fierce attacking threat, and hopefully our back four will prove to be a sturdy obstacle too." Quinntropolis face Group E runners-up Pretoria F.C. in the round of 16, playing the first leg at home, in the Cityview Stadium.

With fans of Quinntropolis, Marantha, Northania and Emancipa understandably buoyant about their chances in the competition, as well as the rest of Quinntopia gaining a source of national pride from the return of Quinntopian footballing success, we await what will happen in the knockout stages of the Mundus Champions League. Stay tuned to CQBS for coverage of all of the Quinntopian teams' fixtures in the MCL.

Mundus Champions League Last 16: No defeats for Quinntopian teams

Posted Image
Peter Aitorov celebrates his Quinntropolis side's 4-0 defeat of Pretoria F.C.

None of the four Quinntopian teams involved in the last 16 of the Mundus Champions League were defeated in their first leg fixtures, with Quinntropolis, Northania and Emancipa winning, and Marantha managing a draw.

The highlight in this stage so far for the Quinntopian teams is Quinntropolis F.C.'s 4-0 victory over Pretoria F.C. at the Cityview Stadium. A capacity crowd of 99,354 looked on as Quinntropolis dominated possession, and on the rare occasions when they lost the ball, the crowd was treated to an impressive 'counter-pressing' display which allowed Quinntropolis to win the ball back quickly. There were two goals in each half - one each for Zydra Nylund and Artyom Mesov in the first half, with Mesov grabbing a second shortly after the start of the second half and Aleksei Kozlov scoring the 4th in the final minute of normal time. Peter Aitorov stated in his post-match press conference that he was "absolutely delighted with the performance", and when pressed about his plans for the second leg, he simply said "we will not sit on our laurels when we head over to Transvaal. We shall show no mercy."

Meanwhile, Northania P.F.C. won 3-1 away to Eliat Strikers. A brace from talented Quinntopian international midfielder Nemana Petrov was enough to put Northania in a good position at the end of the first half. The game was much closer after the break, with the Strikers getting a goal back only 12 minutes after the restart. However, Northania took control of the tie once again through a superb goal by wonderkid Irakliy Sashov. He cut inside from the left wing before switching back over onto his favoured left foot, proceeding to smash the ball into the top-right hand corner from a difficult angle. Northania come back to Quinntopia for the second leg, which manager Remy Kokorin claimed was "a great advantage for us. Having took control of the fixture away, we should have no problem putting the tie to bed in the second leg with 52,000 loyal, passionate fans cheering us on."

Emancipa United also managed to win, defeating Avalon F.C. 2-1 at the Vedovski Arena. Avalon actually took the lead in the 26th minute, but a brilliant counterattacking display from Emancipa in the second half led to two goals for talented striker Edmundo Silveira, both after Emancipa had caught Avalon on the break. On both occasions it was a cross from the right-wing met by the head of Silveira, which sent the Vedovski into raptures. Vito Maratov said he was "extremely impressed" with his side's display, adding "I hope for a repeat of this performance when we travel to Avalon for the second leg. It's a shame they have an away goal, but I'm sure we'll be able to deal with that."

On a less positive note, Marantha F.C. were held to a draw by a resilient IFK Krokom side at Kraken Road. Despite the presence of 81,000 fans roaring the team on in the closing minutes of the match, Marantha were unable to find the decisive goal after Krokom had twice leveled the tie. Iosif Karko expressed his disappointment at his team's inability to convert more of their chances, as well as handing two away goals to IFK Krokom and twice not being able to hold onto a lead. Only a draw in which they score three or more goals, or a victory, will see Marantha through to the quarter finals. When informed about this, Karko stated "We have made it somewhat difficult for ourselves, but it is not an impossible task. I am confident that the lads will bounce back from this and be on the ball when the second leg comes around."

Foreign Affairs Commissariat elects Kaminski as Chief Commissar

Posted Image
Kaminski has been serving as Acting Chief Commissar for just under a year

Due to his predecessor Andrei Petnov's continually deteriorating state, the Foreign Affairs Commissariat has officially elected Xerxes Kaminski as its Chief Commissar.

Following a vote held in the Hall of Foreign Affairs earlier today, Kaminski received unanimous support from his fellow Commissars and as such became Chief Commissar of the Foreign Affairs Commissariat. He has served in the role of Acting Chief Commissar in Petnov's absence and has taken part in multiple diplomatic endeavours, most notably the negotiation and signing of the Commonwealth Treaty, which established the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. With news that Petnov is knocking at death's door, the Foreign Affairs Commissariat decided that the best thing to do was to elect Kaminski as its Chief Commissar to end the uncertainty over the future of the Commissariat.

When quizzed about his appointment as Chief Commissar at a press conference held shortly after the results of the vote were released, Kaminski stated that he was "over the moon", adding "I am extremely grateful to all of my comrades in the Foreign Affairs Commissariat, who have entrusted me with the responsibility of being their spokesperson". He also announced that he would "continue the policy of active diplomatic engagement with the international community, which was so brilliantly demonstrated by the Commissariat and Comrade Petnov during his tenure as Chief Commissar".

Despite evidence for the contrary (i.e. a decrease in Quinntopian diplomatic activity), Kaminski ensured the proletariat that in the coming months that Quinntopia will rejuvenate its activity on the foreign stage, stating that the recent lull was "guaranteed to happen at some point" and "merely an anomaly". He went on to state that Quinntopia will attempt to increase her participation in the international organisations of which she is a member to the greatest level possible, a statement which has been welcomed and generally well-received amongst Quinntopian proletarians.

CQBS wishes Comrade Kaminski good luck in his new role!

Vinage-Sovetskie: Developments in Slavic Federation are "alarming"

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie delivered the televised statement in the New Hall of the People earlier today

Following an aggressive statement from President Kalashnikov of the Slavic Federation, in which he proclaimed "death to the South" (presumably meaning Ardia and Albion), Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie has issued a reply, claiming that such an attitude is "highly dangerous".

Here is the full statement:
Quote:

"Comrades,

It is almost certain that you have heard the latest announcement from President Kalashnikov. He has stated that he wants 'death to the South' and has had strong words to say about what he sees as 'imperialist' nations. This, of course, bears alarming similarities to the statements and highly dangerous and aggressive attitude of the United Soviet Russia, which is something that nobody wants a return to. Having just established the CTO for the purposes of international stability and co-operation, the last thing Mundus needs is to be plunged back into the dark times of tension and violence.

The People's Paradise must also refute the claims of President Kalashnikov, for at no point in its history has Quinntopia shown disrespect to the traditions and culture of the Slavic Federation - Quinntopia merely stood up to the limitless aggression of Stalin and the United Soviet Russia. As soon as the USR fell, in fact, President Kalashnikov came to visit Quinntropolis for highly productive talks on rebuilding relations between the People's Paradise and the Slavic Federation, so why he has had this sudden change of heart is baffling. Just when the world had thought we had turned a corner with the initially peaceful and open attitude of the early Slavic Federation, President Kalashnikov risks undoing all of the work he and his government have done in repairing the reputation of the Federation.

Quinntopia has long supported the notion of emancipating the proletariat, something shown through the height of the CSTO-Warsaw standoff, when Quinntopia and her comrades sent aid to the People of what was the USR, aid which Chairman Stalin refused. Quinntopia has never wanted to see the innocent proletarians of the Slavic Federation harmed - they suffered enough under Stalin, and absolutely do not need more uncertainty over their future, the future of their nation, and the future of Mundus as a whole. The People's Paradise urges President Kalashnikov to think about the repercussions should he choose to adopt the same aggressive, isolationist manner of the United Soviet Russia.

The People's Paradise will of course consider peaceful negotiations as the first port of call if the Slavic Federation has an issue with our policies or those of our Comrade allies. Quinntopia sees military action as a last resort, which, due to the aggression of Stalin, was used to bring the most recent global conflict to a swift conclusion. Like our Rokkenjiman comrades, Quinntopia hopes that Kalashnikov's speech is simply bravado and empty rhetoric and that he does not follow through on these words, otherwise the future will be a bleak one. Quinntopia is still open to the possibility of the continued rebuilding of Quinntopian-Slavic relations, but only if President Kalashnikov does not act on his statement.

May this dispute be resolved with the utmost haste. That is all."

Will Kalashnikov's words be the start of a new period of tension between Quinntopia and the Slavic Federation? Or will the issue be resolved as Vinage-Sovetskie hopes? Only time will tell.

Mundus Champions League: Quarter Final draw produces Clash of the Titans and Pferkeria Derby

Posted Image
Northania P.F.C manager Remy Kokorin celebrating his side's second goal against Eliat Strikers in front of a packed Sickle Park

The last sixteen of the Mundus Champions League proved to be mostly successful for the Quinntopian teams, with all but Marantha F.C. advancing to the quarter finals.

Quinntropolis F.C. went to Transvaal already with a convincing 4-0 aggregate lead, and Peter Aitorov's team showed the same ruthlessness this time round, beating Pretoria F.C. 3-1, giving Quinntropolis a commanding 7-1 aggregate scoreline by the time the final whistle blew. Quinntopia's goals again came from Mesov and Nylund, with Nylund getting two in the first half before Mesov added the third about 20 minutes after the break. Pretoria did get a consolation goal about 15 minutes later, but there was no stopping Quinntropolis as they again dominated the tie. Aitorov said that he was "immensely pleased" with his team's performance. Following the quarter final draw, they face probably their biggest test in the competition so far, coming up against Leonaise F.C. from Achkaerin, no doubt adding the growing footballing rivalry between Quinntopia and Achkaerin. When questioned about the draw, Aitorov was optomistic, stating "we couldn't have been drawn against a better opponent. Leonaise should provide a good challenge and I'm sure the lads will step up to the plate. People are probably thinking that whoever wins this fixture, they will be looking at the winner of the tournament." The first leg will be played in the Cityview Stadium.

Meanwhile, Northania P.F.C. also advanced to the quarter-finals with a dominant aggregate scoreline. Having beaten Eliat Strikers 3-1 in Eretz Yacov, they returned to Sickle Park where 50,000 passionate fans roared them on to a 2-0 victory. Nemana Petrov again got on the scoresheet with Mikhail Rodriguez putting the tie to bed late on. After the match, Kokorin said "I'm delighted with this victory - we surprised everyone with our 3rd place finish in the Quinntopian Premier League last season and I'm pretty sure we're turning a few heads with our progress in this competition too. Hopefully we can continue our good form." In another great match-up, Northania will play the first leg of the quarter final away to fierce rivals Emancipa United, who lost 2-1 to Avalon United in Achkaerin after having beaten their opponents by the same scoreline at the Vedovski Arena. With the match tied on aggregate and away goals, and with no goals in extra time, the match went to penalties. Emancipa emerged victorious, winning 3-2 in the shootout. Manager Vito Maratov said "we may have lost the tie in normal and extra time, but when the pressure was on in the penalty shootout we dealt with it well. Now we must focus on the quarter final, and we should have no problems with motivation against our rivals."

On a less positive note, IFK Krokom broke the hearts of Marantha fans, again producing a resilient display to hold Marantha to a draw. However, Marantha were unable to match IFK Krokom's tally of two away goals, despite a superb strike from talismanic striker Erik Emerick. Karko was somewhat downcast in his post-match press conference, stating "it's never nice to be sent crashing out of a competition as prestigious as this, but to come so close and be denied at what seems like the last hurdle really hurts. Nevertheless, we must rally round and remain strong despite this failure to advance to the quarter finals, and I can assure the fans that we will come back stronger next year. That is a guarantee."

Stay tuned for CQBS coverage of the Mundus Champions League quarter final!

Vinage-Sovetskie: "Tytor has our deepest sypmathies"

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie: "We must push for even greater safety measures in space exploration following this terrible incident"

Following recent news from Tytor, Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie issued a statement earlier today regarding the explosion of the Tytorian space shuttle SS Challenger, in which he expressed Quinntopia's sympathy for the Tytorian people, as well as pushing for stricter safety measures and regulations.

Here is the statement in full:
Quote:

"Comrades,

As I am sure you are all aware, there has been a truly horrific turn of events in Tytor. Earlier today, the space shuttle SS Challenger exploded 73 seconds into her maiden flight, killing all seven crew members on board. It goes without saying that Tytor has our deepest sympathies, especially the families and friends of those killed, at this extremely difficult time. As one of the pioneers of the resurgence of space exploration, as well as one of Tytor's fellow signatories of the Outer Space Standards Convention, we certainly feel the pain of the Tytorian people and the Tytorian Aerospace Ministry in their effort to strive towards the same levels of achievement as the QPCC and ISEA enjoyed a year or so ago, and I am sure the rest of Mundus also feels this pain.

The seven people aboard that spacecraft were looking to aid the development of the Tytorian space programme, due to the plans of the TAM to use the craft to launch satellites in the near future. Nobody should be cruelly taken from us in such a manner when they are reaching for the stars on behalf of an entire nation. Had the launch not taken such a dramatic turn for the worst, I am sure those aboard the Challenger would have written their names into Tytorian history books. It is a huge shame that these seven fine cosmonauts were taken from us on such a significant day for Tytorian space exploration.

As a result of this, the People's Government, in addition to those at the Quinntopian People's Cosmonautical Committee, believe that we must push for even greater safety measures in space exploration following this terrible incident. It is the duty of the signatories of the Outer Space Standards Convention, as well as the nations of Mundus as a whole, to endeavour towards the implementation of even more rigorous safety measures, regulations and tests, to absolutely ensure that such a devastating accident does not happen ever again.

Once again I must express the heartfelt and utmost sympathy of the Quinntopian people for the people of Tytor. Nobody should fail to return from what is, ultimately, their job, and Quinntopia will, of course, readily provide any support that the Kingdom of Tytor and the Tytorian Aerospace Ministry needs to recover from this accident. This setback for space exploration will be felt by everyone but I am sure that the industry - if that is the right word - and Tytor will recover.

That is all."

It remains to be seen whether other nations and their respective space organisations heed Vinage-Sovetskie's call for greater safety measures, but one thing is certain - this is a dark day for the people of Tytor and the international community as a whole.

Mundus Champions League: Clash of the Titans fails to live up to the hype

Posted Image
Peter Aitorov was clearly annoyed by his side's profligacy in front of goal

The first leg of the Mundus Champions League quarter final has taken place, and although the Pferkerian Derby and the Conquistadores-Krokom match were entertaining, the highly anticipated match between Quinntropolis and Leonaise ended up being a snoozefest, ending in a 0-0 draw.

The two sides, considered the strongest remaining sides in the comptetition, both claimed to be ready for the challenge, but the match itself was hardly what one would call "entertaining". Chances for both sides were few and far between - some believe that the sturdy defending of both sides is to blame for this, whereas others argue that the two sides were unwilling to go for the killer goal for fear of conceding. Quinntropolis manager Peter Aitorov was critical of his side in the post-match press conference. "Leonaise may be a great side," he said, "but at home, in front of 100,000 fans, we should really be doing better than a 0-0 draw. Admittedly, it could have been worse - we could have lost, but I hope that we are able to do better when we head over to Achkaerin for the second leg. We must take the fight to Leonaise."

Meanwhile, in the only other match involving Quinntopian teams, Emancipa United and Northania P.F.C played out an exciting Pferkerian derby, full of passion and determination, but not without its share of controversy. Emancipa won the game at the Vedovski Arena 2-0 thanks to a brace from Grigor Ingolfsson, however fans of Northania have staunchly argued that their side was denied a stonewall penalty when the score was still 1-0, and this anger was reflected by manager Remy Kokorin after the match. "Decisions like that change games," he exclaimed, "so it's absolutely vital that the officials get it right. I may get in trouble for saying this, but I definitely think the officials got it wrong. The defender's clearly made contact, so I don't see how a penalty wasn't given. Nevertheless, we're playing in front of our own fans next week, so hopefully that will give us the foundation we need to get back into this tie. It certainly isn't over just yet.

In the other MCL matches, the match between Northfort and Valtheim ended in a 1-1 draw, but it was certainly more entertaining than the match between Quinntropolis and Leonaise, whereas the best match of the first leg of the quarter finals was undoubtedly the fixture between Conquistadores and IFK Krokom (the latter of which eliminated Marantha F.C. in the last 16), where IFK Krokom pulled off a superb 4-2 away victory in Nueva Ardia. Some Quinntopians think that Krokom could be the dark horse of the competition, but currently they maintain their steadfast support for the remaining Quinntopian teams in the competition (unless, of course, the remaining teams are rivals of their own team), with the common opinion being that there will be a Quinntopian team in the final. Whether this happens remains to be seen.

Stay tuned for the conclusion of the quarter finals!

Mundus Champions League: Aitorov slams 'utterly dreadful' performance

Posted Image
Aitorov acknowledges the travelling Quinntropolis fans following his side's embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Leonaise

In the antithesis of their first leg match, Quinntropolis F.C. unexpectedly capitulated, losing 5-1 to opponents Leonaise in Achkaerin. Meanwhile, Emancipa United advance to the semi-finals despite losing 2-1 to rivals Northania P.F.C.

Following their humiliation, Peter Aitorov had much to say in the post-match press conference, and it goes without saying that he was not happy. "That match was utterly dreadful," he explained, "from our inability to convert chances into goals to the awful defending. Our big players didn't turn up tonight, when we really needed them to. I suppose missing Melker Ottosson, even though he only had a minor injury, did it for us. He really organises and leads the defence, something which was missing tonight. I am terribly sorry for our fans who have travelled thousands of miles to come and watch us, and I promise that we will improve in the transfer window to ensure this doesn't happen again next season. I can't say if I'll definitely be here next season after a defeat like this, but we'll just have to wait and see."

Despite Quinntropolis crashing out of the tournament, there remains one last hope for Quinntopia in the competition - Emancipa United. Despite their 2-1 away defeat to fierce rivals Northania P.F.C., Emancipa's 2-0 victory in the first leg means that Emancipa advance to the semi-finals due to the 3-2 aggregate scoreline in their favour. Manager Vito Maratov expressed his delight at going through to the semi-finals, saying "I am over the moon with what has happened so far. Yes, we lost to our rivals tonight, but we still have the bragging rights as we have advanced to the semi-finals and they haven't. I wasn't expecting us to get this far but now that we're here, we're going to go for the jugular and try to win this thing. It would be brilliant for our fans and would restore Quinntopian pride on the world football stage." Emancipa face Northfort United of East Moreland in the semi-finals, with the first leg being played at the Vedovski Arena.

The other two quarter-final matches saw Valtheim United and Northfort United play out a 2-2 draw. Northfort United advanced to the semi-finals on away goals following a 1-1 draw in East Moreland in the first leg. Northfort, of course, go up against Emancipa in the semi-final. The remaining fixture was played out between IFK Krokom and Conquistadores in Nya Åland. Krokom won 1-0 following their 4-2 first leg victory in Nueva Ardia, meaning they go through to the semi-finals to play Leonaise F.C.

Terrorist Threat Level raised following latest Sorority attack

Posted Image
Police and military patrols have begun to take place around landmarks and government buildings

Following the Sorority of Materna's attack on a holiday resort in Dartfordia, the Security and Intelligence Commissariat has raised Quinntopia's Terrorist Threat Level to Severe, claiming "it is only a matter of time before the Sorority attacks Quinntopia" due to its involvement in the CTOMM.

Chief Commissar of the Security and Intelligence Commissariat Teodors Ozolinsh released a statement earlier today, stating that "all Quinntopians must be prepared for an attack" but that Quinntopia's various police services as well as the People's Revolutionary Army, the Quinntopian Intelligence Committee and Department 98 "will be working even harder to minimise the possibility of such an attack". Ozolinsh went on to say that an attack on Quinntopia by the Sorority was inevitable as a result of the involvement of the People's Paradise in the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation Mission in Marseilles.

Armed patrols by both the police and the People's Revolutionary Army have begun, particularly around historical buildings and other landmarks, as well as government buildings. Police presence has also increased in public areas in general so as to allow for a quick response to any attacks that occur outside of patrolled areas. Should such an attack occur, Ozolinsh stated that Quinntopia "would increase its commitment to the CTOMM should it be attacked by the Sorority".

Please take care when you are out in public, and make sure to report any suspicious activity to your local police service.

Mundus Champions League: All to play for in second leg

Posted Image
Vito Maratov gives instructions during his side's 1-1 draw with Northfort United at the Vedovski Arena

It is fair to say that the first leg of the Mundus Champions League semi-finals was not the most entertaining affair in the history of football. Both fixtures resulted in 1-1 draws, leaving it all to play for in the second leg.

The last remaining Quinntopian side in the competition, Emancipa United, were only able to achieve a 1-1 draw against Northfort United at home. Both sides seem to cancel each other out, with Edmundo Silveira putting Emancipa in front early on in the first half before Northfort equalised after the break. After the equaliser neither side appeared to go for the jugular, seemingly happy to let the match end in a draw. Vito Maratov, on the other hand, was annoyed that his side did not show the same clinical finishing that has allowed them to get this far in the competition.

"I'm not too happy with that result," he told reporters after the match, "particularly because we were at home tonight. The Vedovski is usually a fortress, and though Northfort didn't beat us it makes it all the more difficult for us to progress to the final as we now have to travel a great distance to East Moreland for the second leg. I'm not saying we can't do it, of course - we have the ability - but we've made the job difficult for ourselves. It would've been nice to win, but there's nothing we can do about it now. We just have to prepare for the second leg and hope that we can win."

In the other semi-final, Leonaise F.C. managed a 1-1 draw at home to the surprise package of the tournament, IFK Krokom, to the disappointment of Quinntropolis fans, who were hoping for a crushing Krokom victory as some sort of comeuppance for Leonaise after they drubbed their beloved Quinntropolis F.C. in the quarter final second leg. Quinntropolis fans are now hoping that Krokom's resilience will enable them to beat Leonaise when the Achkaerinese side travels to Nya Åland.

Quinntopia to host Rugby World Cup

Posted Image
The competition will be the Quinntopian national rugby team's first foray into a major international tournament

Following the closing of the host bidding process, Quinntopia has officially been declared the host of the Rugby World Cup, as it was the only nation which put itself forward for the hosting rights.

This marks Quinntopia's first real participation in a major international rugby tournament, but despite fears that Quinntopia will be little match for the established rugby-playing nations such as East Moreland, Quinntopia's coach, Grisha Sokolov remains optomistic. "We have some of Quinntopia's best rugby players at our disposal, and they certainly don't lack talent," he said "hopefully this works in our favour as other nations may not be used to our style of play. We're not aiming to win the tournament, since it is only our first major international competition, but I'm hoping we can claim a few scalps."

The competition in being held in four stadiums across three cities - Quinntropolis, Marantha and Proletariat City. All four are famous Quinntopian football stadiums, but will be easily converted so as to service the needs of the Rugby World Cup. Preparations at the Revolution Arena, where the final is being held, are already underway, with the Culture Commissariat hoping to put on a great show for the 150,000 fans who will turn up to watch the final inside the colossal stadium, as well as the many other thousands who will be watching it in the main squares of the host cities, in addition to pubs, at home etc. etc.

Upon hearing news of Quinntopia's successful bid, Chief Commissar of the Culture Commissariat Oleg Venedev stated that he was "utterly ecstatic". He went on to say "we've bid twice for the football World Cup, but to no avail, which was gutting at the time. However, to finally have launched a successful bid for the hosting rights of a major international sporting competition is a brilliant feeling. We hope that people will enjoy the experience and will enjoy Quinntopia itself. This competition could prove to be a major boost to tourism here, which is also an exciting possibility."

CQBS will be providing extensive coverage of the Rugby World Cup when it comes around, so stay tuned!

Rugby World Cup round robin draw takes place

Posted Image
Quinntopia has been drawn in Group A, along with Genstatum, Dijel, Odmony, Zimalia and Seaforth

The groups for the round robin stage of the inaugural Rugby World Cup have been drawn, with the host nation being drawn in Group A with Genstatum, Dijel, Odmony, Zimalia and Seaforth.

The group seems to be a mixed one, with the six nations in Group A all boasting varying levels of experience. One of the comforts for Quinntopian fans is that there are other newcomers to the international rugby scene in their group, such as Genstatum and Zimalia. The Quinntopian side is not expected to win the World Cup by any stretch of the imagination, but fans are hoping for at least some upsets. A recent survey by the Quinntopian People's Rugby Association showed that an astonishing 87% of Quinntopian rugby fans would be happy with only qualification to the next round.

Quinntopia's participation in the Rugby World Cup, according to Oleg Venedev, "is part of an effort to diversify Quinntopia's sporting commitments." He went on to say "many only know us for our successes in association football or the Winter Games, so we must expand our participation to encompass other sports. This is not only to promote our country on the world stage, it is also to inspire young Quinntopians to take up sport."

The fixture list for the round robin stage has not yet been finalised, but fans are hoping that Quinntopia can get off to a winning start in the tournament, as that could give the Red-Blacks the momentum they need to go further than they are expected to. It is, of course, to early to predict what Quinntopia's fate in the Rugby World Cup will be, but following the opening ceremony, which took place last night, one thing is for certain - it should be one hell of a tournament.

Stay tuned for coverage of the opening fixture of the Rugby World Cup!

Quinntopia wins opening Rugby World Cup fixture

Posted Image
The "ultras" section of Quinntopia's rugby fanbase was in attendance at the Cityview Stadium

Quinntopia has emerged victorious from its opening Rugby World Cup match, beating fellow newcomers Genstatum 24-12 in front of a capacity crowd at a bouncing Cityview Stadium.

Coach Grisha Sokolov said this was "the best possible way for Quinntopia to start its World Cup campaign," before adding "the atmosphere was electric tonight - being the hosts, it seems, really pays off. When you have tens of thousands of fans roaring you on, it's a real boost to morale. We played some great rugby tonight, something I hope we can carry over to the rest of our fixtures in this tournament, particularly our next one, as that is against Dijel. They are an established rugby side, so they should pose a formidable challenge, but that is a challenge that we are most certainly ready for."

Quinntopia scored three tries (courtesy of Matvei Pavlov {2} and Makari Utkin). All three tries were converted by Vova Popov. Popov also scored a drop goal in the dying seconds of the match to round off what was a fantastic night for the Red-Blacks. Fans of the national side celebrated long after the match, understandably ecstatic with such a good start to the World Cup. It seems that this enthusiasm will be in full swing when the Quinntopia-Dijel fixture rocks up.

That fixture will be played at the Cityview Stadium, which is expected to be packed to the rafters yet again. Though the result against Genstatum was not enough for Quinntopia to top the group (since upcoming opponents Dijel beat Odmony 35-10), Quinntopia currently sits in second place in Group A. Following their victory, players and fans alike have gained a new sense of optimism, believing that maybe, just maybe, Quinntopia could surprise a few.

Quinntopia making good progress at Rugby World Cup

Quinntopia's Horácio 'Brick Wall' Fonseca in action against Zimalia

Since Quinntopia's 24-12 victory over Genstatum on Matchday One, they have played two more games, losing one and winning one, to Dijel and Zimalia respectively. Quinntopia remains second in Group A behind Dijel.

The match against Dijel, which finished 24-10, saw an admirable display from the Red-Blacks, who fought until the very last second of the match, but ultimately the quality of the Dijeli side (who are second in the world rankings - five places higher than Quinntopia) meant that Quinntopia found itself on the wrong end of the result. Quinntopia scored two tries, coming from Makari Utkin and Voski Khachaturian, but neither of these were converted. Despite the defeat, coach Grisha Sokolov was not entirely disappointed: "Defeats like this can help us learn," he said, "especially when playing against an established force in world rugby. We can use some of the more effective aspects of the Dijeli way of playing rugby and try to adapt them to our own strengths. This will be the case whenever we come up against any of the big teams. It's a shame we couldn't cause an upset but we're still playing well."

Following the defeat to Dijel, Quinntopia bounced back immediately with a resounding 18-0 victory over Zimalia. This makes Quinntopia the only nation participating in the Rugby World Cup so far to prevent the opposition from registering a single point. Quinntopia again scored two tries, courtesy of a brace from the stocky Horácio 'Brick Wall' Fonseca. Only one of these was converted, however. Matvei Pavlov then scored a drop goal with 15 minutes left to play before Vova Popov scored from a penalty with only a couple of minutes remaining. Following the victory, Sokolov stated "it appears that the defeat to Dijel has definitely allowed us to learn from our mistakes. We've been working on our defensive capabilities as well as trying to become more effective on the counter-attack. We want to try and catch other teams by surprise."

Quinntopia's next match is against Odmony at the Cityview Stadium in Quinntropolis, which is again expected to be packed to the rafters. Many fans are optimistic as a result of Quinntopia's respectable start to the Rugby World Cup, with the odds of 10/1 looking increasingly attractive to Quinntopian punters. There is still little talk of Quinntopia actually winning the competition, as most fans are being realistic about the Red-Blacks' chances considering the calibre of opposition that Quinntopia is likely to come up against if they do qualify for the knockout stages, such as East Moreland, Dijel and Achkaerin. On the other hand, if the Red-Blacks continue their good form it is certain that at least a few fans will dare to dream.

Stay tuned for Matchday Four coverage!

Quinntopia through to Rugby World Cup quarter finals

Posted Image
Makari Utkin was again in fine form

After recording an 18-7 victory over Odmony at the Cityview Stadium, Quinntopia have qualified for the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup, along with current Group A leaders Dijel, as well as East Moreland and Achkaerin from Group B.

The match was followed by raucous scenes outside the Cityview Stadium, with Quinntopian fans staging a party (of sorts) to celebrate the team exceeding expectations by qualifying for the quarter finals with two games to spare. Many were expecting Quinntopia to either qualify in the final round robin game, or to valiantly fail to qualify. Therefore it is understandable why the Red-Blacks' performance at the inaugural Rugby World Cup is raising eyebrows and surprising much of their fanbase, in addition to surprising some of those from other nations. Even Grisha Sokolov stated that "we've done very well to qualify for the next round with two matches still to play. Our goal was merely to qualify, and we've done that, so now we're going to try and go as far in the tournament as possible, so let's hope the draw is favourable to us."

The match itself was played in front of another capacity crowd at the Cityview Stadium, with the tens of thousands of Quinntopian fans providing a deafening backdrop to the rugby being played on the turf in front of them. Again, Quinntopia scored two tries, both coming from Makari Utkin, the first about 20 minutes into the match and the next coming towards the end of the second half. Vova Popov was once again only able to convert one of these, but made up for it by scoring two drop goals. Odmony put up a valiant display, but their tally of one converted try was simply not enough to beat the Red-Blacks, much to the delight of the Quinntopian fans, who let out a spine-tingling roar when the referee blew the final whistle and went out into Quinntropolis to celebrate.

The result means that Quinntopia now boasts the second best defensive record in the tournament, with their tally of 43 points conceded only bettered by East Moreland's impressive total of only 39 points conceded. Another surprise is that the team ranked 4th in the world, Seaforth (who are Quinntopia's next opponents, again at the Cityview Stadium), are struggling in this tournament, having only won one game and lost the other three. Perhaps it is the distance that is affecting them, but that said, East Moreland and Achkaerin are doing just fine and they've had to travel further than the Seaforthians. This has again delighted Quinntopian fans as they have qualified for the quarter finals whereas the three teams immediately above them in the world rankings have not yet done so.

Vinage-Sovetskie announces visit to Rokkenjima after months-long diplomatic hiatus

Posted Image
Despite their close relationship, Quinntopian visits to Rokkenjima have been a rare occurrence

Following a prolonged period where Quinntopia appeared to take a backseat role in international politics, Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie today announced that the People's Paradise would "return to the forefront of the global political scene" and "re-affirm her ties with her closest allies."

Vinage-Sovetskie addressed the proletarians today from the New Hall of the People. Here is an excerpt from his statement:

Quote:

"Comrades,

Today marks the end of our nation's reduced participation in international affairs. Whilst our hiatus allowed us to focus on internal economic and social development, it is clear that Quinntopia's influence has regressed as a result of our reluctance to remain involved in politics beyond our borders. Consequently, I hereby announce that the People's Paradise has put plans into place to re-affirm her ties with her closest allies. This will begin with an official visit to the First Empire of Rokkenjima, undeniably our closest allies and trusted friends. I am sure that any discussions which take place there will be highly productive and most effective in returning Quinntopia to its former place on the international stage.

We shall return to the forefront of the global political scene through means such as these. For too long we have sat back and allowed the world to change and develop without us catching up and having a say on new matters. We must reach out not only to our traditional allies, but also to new nations which have arisen. The nations we have failed to engage with and as a result, fell behind to in terms of progress and development. The economic and social benefits presented by strengthening our relationships with the rest of the world are limitless, which is why we must endeavour to put the name of the People's Paradise back out there.

Through mutual co-operation with our fellow nations we can build a stable international society, something which is desperately needed considering our current society still succumbs to tensions, disputes and violence. Bickering is not going to get us anywhere. We have a duty to listen to each other, recognise our differences and, where possible, devise ways of bridging these boundaries. The People's Paradise has tried in the past to operate peacefully and, where the other side has also been willing to compromise, we have been mostly successful. It is only when either side is blind to the facts and their vision is clouded by hatred that problems ensue.

That is why the People's Government and the proletarians of the People's Paradise have decided that our great nation shall travel down this path. For stability. For development. For progress!"

When questioned about possible visits to other nations considered as traditionally allied/friendly to the People's Paradise, such as Dartfordia, Vinage-Sovetskie stated "we are of course looking into the possibility of visiting other nations. Those who were fellow members of the CSTO and CSU are definitely our primary targets for future visits, but as I said we cannot rule out the notion of visiting other nations whom we have not had the fortune of establishing contact with. If we are narrow-minded in our approach to redeveloping our foreign involvements our plans will fail. We have to be willing to connect with everyone."

What does this mean for the People's Paradise? Only time will tell.

MILITARY CUTBACKS ANNOUNCED
War Commissariat seeks end to "extravagant defence spending"

Posted Image
Chief Commissar of the War Commissariat, Ivan Toralo, announced the plans for downsizing Quinntopia's military earlier today

In what is being touted as a "significant development" for the People's Paradise, the War Commissariat announced that the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces will be subject to major cutbacks over the next ten to 15 years.

The War Commissariat stated that the reduction of troops in service to the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces would eventually total just over 3 million by the end of the scheme, with the People's Revolutionary Army poised to lose nearly 2 million servicemen, with about 300,000 departing from the People's Revolutionary Navy and just under 1 million leaving the People's Revolutionary Air Force. Recognising that these plans will mean the temporary loss of a considerable number of jobs, Ivan Toralo assured that the War Commissariat, along with the Interior Affairs, Finance and Industry Commissariats had put sufficient contingency plans into place to provide work as soon as possible for those leaving the Armed Forces, claiming that there would be "a greatly increased focus on industrial development", helped by the reduction in what he referred to as "extravagant defence spending".

The move has been applauded by many Quinntopians, a great deal of whom believes this development will not only lead to less financial uncertainty for the People's Paradise, but a renewed sense of progress and development incited by the money freed up from military cutbacks. Although a minority believe that the People's Government has perhaps ignored some security concerns. While these concerns are understandable given the current political climate across Mundus, Toralo was quick to offer more reassurances, claiming that the size of the military was "still sufficient enough to both defend our homeland and support our allies abroad".

Coupled with Matthew Vinage-Sovetskie's announcement earlier this week regarding Quinntopian efforts reach out to the nations of Mundus in the spirit of co-operation, it certainly seems as though the People's Paradise is pressing ahead with a new diplomatic strategy, inasmuch as hoping that by lowering her own sword she will encourage those currently acting as a negative influence on the international climate to follow suit. Whether this grand scheme will be successful remains to be seen, but one thing is undoubtedly clear: this week has heralded a new dawn for Quinntopian politics. Hitherto personified by many statements immediately condemning any nation which caused even the most minor of disputes and a readiness to jump to military action too hastily, it seems as though the People's Paradise will adopt a more patient approach to diplomacy from now on.

CQBS will bring more news from the Skyscraper Citadel as it comes in.

OOC: I've already updated the factbook accordingly, but let's just assume that it took 10-15 years to do so.

MALSONIAN DELEGATION ARRIVES IN QUINNTROPOLIS
Both delegations heading to Fortress of the People for discussions

Posted Image
Vinage-Sovetskie and Putin exchanged formalities on the tarmac of Quinntropolis International Airport

The first foreign visit to the People's Paradise for quite some time has started well, with the Quinntopian and Malsonian delegations successfully meeting at Quinntropolis International Airport.

It is reported that the welcoming of Putin and his delegation went without a hitch, with a number of niceties being exchanged and friendly discussions taking place. The two delegations are soon scheduled to arrive at the Fortress of the People in central Quinntropolis for discussions on developing the relationship between the People's Paradise and the Democratic Republic, with many believing that the primary aim of the talks is to establish various diplomatic and trade links with Malson, with a view to further development of the Malso-Quinntopian relationship in the future. A significant number of political commentators are calling the event a 'welcome revitalisation of Quinntopia's diplomatic programme' as well as a 'positive development which will prove beneficial for both parties'.

The talks are, of course, one of the first major diplomatic events to take place in the People's Paradise for quite some time, but are hopefully the first of many as Quinntopia seeks to build bridges with many nations across Mundus. It is believed that the main reason that the Democratic Republic was approached was their recent entry into the Cross-Straits Treaty Organisation, of which the People's Paradise is a founding member. It seems obvious, then, that the next step for Quinntopia is to contact other new members of the CSTO, CSU and other organisations of which it is also a member so as to most easily and effectively form new bonds with the nations of Mundus.

The news regarding the arrival of the Malsonian delegation in Quinntropolis coupled with plans for a Quinntopian visit to Rokkenjima and a general revival of Quinntopia's involvement in international politics has given many in the People's Paradise a cause for optimisim. It is hoped that the talks with Malson will be the start of a new era for Quinntopian politics as the nation strives to adopt a new, more compassionate strategy for dealing with diplomacy and international incidents. The level of success that these discussions enjoy will be a good indicator for how these grand plans will eventually play out, so it is widely hoped that the discussions with the Democratic Republic are both successful and productive.

We will bring regular updates on the progress of the talks as news comes in, so watch this space!
