OOC: This is a place for Beatrice, Eva, Alexander and (possibly) Elizabeth to discuss recent happenings in Elpidia. Beatrice looked in the room to make sure no one was present before giving the sign for Eva and Alexander to follow her lead. "Now then," Beatrice said, "What have you discovered Eva? The uncertainty which surrounds what I've heard from Elpidia these days troubles me, and Charles hasn't helped the situation much. We're essentially forced to take a hard-line position against one of our strongest allies, and that does not sit well with me." As Eva explained what she had discussed with Truden Beatrice began to see that Charles was incorrect in his doomsday response to the situation. She looked to Eva with shock as she imagined the betrayal and, perhaps, loneliness President Quilo must be feeling. "To think the people were calling her Elizabeth Quincy....now her name in Rokkenjima is tarnished forever. Sure she made mistakes, but she was doing what she felt in her heart was best for her country, any of us would do the same if we were in her shoes!" Beatrice removed her phone from her pocket, hoping that Elizabeth had not blocked her number or something. She sent her a message to meet Eva, Alexander and herself in the room. "Charles may have limited my public options but there has to be something I can do, some way I can make things right between Elizabeth and I. Rokkenjima doesn't leave friends to suffer alone, and we certainly don't abandon friends who've bled for us!" 'Elizabeth, please meet me in the left-hand side room so that we may talk. It's important.' |

The Rt. Hon.

Elizabeth Quilo sat quietly in the signing room, listening to the various speeches from world leaders. She noticed the Empress leave with Princess Eva and Prince Alexander. Curious she thought. I wasn't long before she felt a slight vibration from her phone. Seeing as it was a lull in the ceremony, she checked it. "Elizabeth, please meet me in the left-hand side room so that we may talk. It's important." Elizabeth's emotions conflicted. She suspected the Empress would be wanting to get her account of what happened. On the one hand she felt betrayed by the Rokkenjimans, on the other she still felt a bond of friendship with them. I suppose the Empress will have some explaining of her own to do. she thought as she got up out of her chair. "Where are you going?" asked her VP Vargas. "The ladies room Chris." she said with mock indignation. "Try to be discreet around here." He chuckled a bit as she left the room. She found her way to the indicated room and found the Empress waiting with the Princess and Prince. "You called your majesty?" |

A mixture of conflicted emotions were fully displayed by Beatrice's face when Elizabeth entered the room. "President Quilo, thank you for coming, I'm sure you have an idea as to why I called you here, but before we begin I owe you the sincerest of apologies. You've always been a true and honest friend to Rokkenjima and the way Charles responded to the recent troubles in Elpidia was not only uncalled for, but wasn't checked with me before being enacted. If you feel betrayed by me and angry you have every right to be, I accept that, but you should know that I feel horrible about the way Charles has portrayed you." Beatrice paused, "After talking with Eva I've gained a new understanding of the circumstances leading up to, and during, the Quarantine Period which have made me most regretful of not taking the time to handle the Rokkenjiman response personally. At the same time I feel betrayed, why, during a time when you needed a friend the most, couldn't you call upon me? You've done so much for Rokkenjima in her darkest hour, I'm sure there's some way Rokkenjima could have helped to ease the pressure in the Quarantine Zone. And now that Charles has issued his statement and made his case to the Rokkenjiman people my hands are tied, and anything I can do as a friend has been limited." She stopped herself for a moment noting the tone of her voice had been flooded with emotion and, perhaps, her words were more biting than she had intended. "I'm not attacking you Elizabeth, I know now that in those moments you were taking every action you felt in your heart was the best for your nation and people. Sometimes our best isn't enough, our every effort to preserve that which we love can come back to destroy the very thing we were trying to protect. I could have done something though, I was powerless once and I swore to myself that I would never again be in a position where I couldn't defend myself, Rokkenjima and her allies, yet here I find myself again, and I don't know what to do." "It's had her restless since she received word of Charles' statement," Eva said when Beatrice grew quiet. "I know I didn't wish to believe the worst in you when I was informed of the situation and, thanks to Mr. Truden, I know now that my faith in you wasn't misplaced. Why the secrecy though, why did you stand alone when you're anything but?" Beatrice sighed, "Fate has dealt us an unfortunate situation, and while some of the things you did were wrong I cannot fault you for them, you were not acting maliciously. I just wish that, somewhere along the way, I could have helped because you were one of brightest stars this world had to look to, one of its greatest hopes and now, sadly, it looks like that star may be extinguished before its time." Beatrice removed from her pocket a box and handed it to Elizabeth, "I was going to give this to you before the ceremony began but I didn't get the opportunity to. It's a cameo, crafted in the late 1800s, which depicts the goddess Islyna. I wanted to give it to you because, like Islyna, I came to see you as a healer, protector and patron of justice. It's more fitting than any state honour I could impart upon you." Eva waited for a moment before cutting in, "If there's anything further you could tell us, anything at all, I'm sure there's something we can do to help in some way. I know Beatrice doesn't wish for you to stand alone, regardless of what politics demand at this point." |

Alexander glanced up at Beatrice, then began following her towards the other room. He listened to both his fiancé and Eva, though recognised his limited knowledge of the subject. The outbreak of the virus had affected all countries, Dartfordia was no exception, and he understood that difficult decisions had to be made. He watched the two women from a fair distance, leaning against the table in the middle of the room. He smiled at Beatrice, though still felt concerned about any course of action the Empress may take. After a long period of silence, he finally spoke up, “May I recommend that you are cautious about—“ He paused as the door began to open, he cleared his throat and stood straight, knowing his concerns could be voiced later. Alex had no personal affiliation with either Quilo or Truman, so he did not completely believe what Eva had been told, so would wait before making a clear judgement. After listening to Beatrice’s emotive speech, he slowly moved over to stand by her side. He had learned, through a letter presented to him a very short time ago, the personal importance of Islyna to both her and Rokkenjiman society. When Beatrice presented Elizabeth with the cameo, he looked at the Elpidian leader sympathetically, “And if there’s anything I can do to help, whether it’s to do with Dartfordia’s position or anything else, we’re here to support you.” |
