“The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.” ― Elizabeth Cady Stanton So many survivors have been silent for so long, because of society dictating what is "right" and "proper" to be spoken of. But, society has forgotten one thing. Whether something is taboo, or painful, or regrettable, experiences shape who we each are as an individual. Our entire life can be changed in one brief moment. And, when that moment shames us, scorns us, harms us, attempts to push us down, that is when we need to speak up, scream out. The first step of getting through the pain is admitting where it has come from. If you have a secret you have never shared, you probably feel as I did. Burdened down, trapped, hopeless, alone, scared, powerless. Take back your power, and tell the world what you have survived! Take back your power and stand on your feet with your fellow survivors! We have all made it through life one way or another. But now, you have found a refuge where united we stand, holding each other up for strength, giving each other support, and commending each other for their courage, and their ability to not exist, not to survive, but to live. |
