Okumichi (Oku Michi - Many Roads) is a bustling metropolis just like any other, filled with people, dreams and hopes that keep the lights alive through the night and turn the wheels of industry. It is a sprawling city in the Shizuoka Prefecture that moves over hills and is flanked on the East by the Japanese alps, and on the West by Suruga Bay which extends into the Pacific Ocean. It is said, that in Okumichi, the city of many paths, you can meet anybody you wish to find. Okumichi Marketplace A little off the center of Okumichi lies a small market square that used to house regular market days in the past. The market is built somewhat reminiscent to the squares found in Europe, with intricate designs embedded into the square itself via creative use of stone tiles. Different shops and stalls are located around the edges of the marketplace, the products ranging from antiques to furniture to arts and crafts and other miscellaneous products; some solitary stalls can be seen lining the square all week long. Several free plots are still available around the square, almost begging for someone to come and put up a stall on them. At the corner of the square, fairly easy to spot, is one stall that belongs to Calleigh White Fox. The stall itself is pleasantly in the shade with little light, covered in light, used-looking canvas that moves gently as the wind blows. Hung around the stall were different objects: jeweleries, pendants, dream catchers, key rings, lucky charms and carved idols. On the table were different kinds of bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, key rings and wooden statuettes, all with a Native American motif, particularly the Lakota tribe. Lately it hasn't seen much activity, so Calleigh can be found working the coffee bar at Desmond Green's bookstore. Green's Bookstore Owned by the frankly weird Desmond Green, this Bookstore contains every book anyone could ever want, and if it's not there, it's probably not up to standards anyway. Desmond is quite organized when it comes to books, and if you're not sure you really want a book or magazine, there is a quiet reading area (complete with a coffee bar!) to sit down and have a good, long read. The Stardust Record Emporium A little bit of heaven on three floors! The Stardust Record Emporium is the store of choice for the discerning music enthusiast. Meticulously categorised and sub-categorised, the expansive selection of music on several formats is split broadly onto the three floors, 'Pop', 'Rock' and 'Classical & World'. The owner, Zachary, seems much too young considering how long the place has been open, and it is said that at night people can hear screams and crashes coming from the store and the buildings and apartments connected to it on either side. Which is probably why the people living there rarely stay too long, complaining of poltergeists and hauntings. Nobody believes these things, but it's a legend amongst the little kids that if you play with the Ouija near it, the message you get almost always says COME IN AND BUY SOME RECORDS, CHEAP TODAY. Okumichi City Central Mall A part of the city with its own extra-personal shopping culture. This massive complex, open all hours of the day and night, is practically built into the ground and boasts a whole other story above and below, allowing access to the subway system for those that lack personal transportation for which to use the parkade in the next building over. Every kind of store imaginable, from commercial to cultural to even the most novel, can be found dotting the walls of tile, marble, and storefront glass displays in the mall, and moving between the floors of the mall is a breeze with the latest in escalator and platform lift technology. Everyone from every walk of Japanese life can be found here at some point, even those that don't want to be found. If one can find personal space here, they're considered extra lucky. Dangai Video Arcade Located in one corner of the Central mall, this is where you'll find a good deal of young people every day when school lets out. Racing, dueling, those weird machines that make people jump on little coloured arrows, there's something here for everyone! Just step right up, slot in your tokens and have fun. Every game has its specialists: you find the same people at the same places quite often, with only minimal differences every now and then. It's not the kind of place that encourages conversation. Yagami Enterprises Towering above most of the other buildings of Okumichi, the Yagami family's headquarters boasts everything you could ever hope to find in an ultra-opulent business office: secretaries, cubicles, and most importantly, coffee makers. However, the vast computer database of the company contains records of the family that they'd really rather not leak out: trade secrets and the other type. Naturally, what sort of skyscraper would it be without the obligatory men in dark suits lounging around, with stun guns at attention? All visitors are bound to see the notice in the foyer that tells them everything in the building is under CCTV. Okumichi City General Hospital In the busiest part of downtown lies the rather large Okumichi City hospital, able to accept all patients with a variety of illnesses & injuries with over 3000 rooms, even more beds, and almost every kind of ward imaginable. While it isn't hard news, since Okumichi City has a relatively high injury rate among citizens, the hospital is often busy with nurses, surgeons, and specialists on call 24/7, all seemingly overworked and underpaid. The outcast Quincy Jin Urashima used to work here but had his surgical license revoked due to unclear circumstances; however, he can still be sought out here if someone asks for the right people. The secret lower level of the hospital, constructed out of soul-synthesized silver and glass, is off limits to anyone that isn't 'specially privileged'. No one knows what goes on down there, or that a lower level even exists... Okumichi Inari Shrine Okumichi's Inari shrine was first established in the late 17th century during the Edo period. Since then, there has been many families taking over responsibility over the shrine. For the past eighty years or so, Yukari's family have been entrusted with its daily operationa. The shrine's patron deity is Inari, which is the kami of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry, and worldly success. The shrine's entrance begins down at the base of a small hill, and this is where the first shrine's Torii gate stands. To get to the shrine, guests will have to climb a few flights of stairs to reach to the top. Handicapped guests aren't out of luck, since beside the stairs is a steady inclined walkway but its a longer route to the top. Along the path to the shrine are well-kept trees, bushes, and gardens that surround the shrine and its path to the shrine. At the top of the hill, is the shrine's second Torii gate with a Shimenawa hung high above it. A few yards away from the second torii gate are the shrine's Komainu. These protective fox statues look intimidating to guests with their wide open maws. About five yards away from the Kamainus is the purification fountain, and the purification fountain is positioned in the center of a forked path that splits between the fountain and combines again afterwards. From the purification fountain, the path continues on until the path goes through the third and final torii gate. From this point onward, the path stretches wide across to a large center. In the middle of the center is a small stage where no theater performances are performed during festivals. Past the stage is the main and offering hall, and inside this hall houses the shrine's sacred item: a beautifully decorated bowl. Past the hall, a secluded path leads to the shrine's residence home, and this is where Yukari's family, and herself, lives. The VWC: Vai-sel World Corporations This congregation of 4 major establishments of the VWC's Japanese headquarters take up a large area of downtown Okumichi. The smallest of the four spiraling spires tops off at a height of about 76 stories tall while the 3rd which is sued for office space and security detail stands at about 98 stories tall coming close to a world record in height. The 2nd tallest building and part of the executive branch of the company towers over the previous record of 101 floors with an amazing 106 floors. The final structure is the rest of the executive branch and it houses also the financial offices as well as government weapons research labs underground. It is a juggernaut above juggernaut's topping off at about 122 stories tall with a fine point topping it off as one of the largest buildings in history. Found within the first 2 buildings are simple offices and on the first floor political and business libraries with a cafeteria/coffee shop for public use and company use. Within the 2 middle executive buildings one will find a far stricter business environment, both boring and exciting, depending on one's point of view. Found within the smaller of the 2 is Haruhara Naota who oversees most of VWC's actions in Japan. While in the towering giant, his acquaintance and equal who hardly visits the Japanese headquarter Joseph Walton resides from time to time. A husky blonde haired man with an attitude and a military bravado about him. Both buildings have offices for dealing with stocks and bonds and business matters of the utmost importance. Its a bustling city establishment, what else did you expect? |
