"Well, you could call me 19, but i'm technically 809." "I didn't know werewolves could live to be that old," Luke said. "Or at least, not be that old and still look 19," He added. I don't know why, but I got really offended at this. And I usually don't get offended. "Well, with all the new diseases out there, 'modern' wolves don't live too long. I'm immune. Up until three hundred years ago, wolves could live to be about 2000. I don't think I'd make it that far, but I'll be close. I'm acctually one of the oldest, if not THE oldest wolf in the world. And I didn't realize the Y gene in shifters were so dim." He was speechless. So was his sister. Luke raised his hands up, a gesture saying, 'hey, whatever'. "Well," I said, trying to change the subject and release tension. "I haven't been in this city since the industrial revolution, so, care to go on a tour?" I offered my hand to Angie, and she took it after a moments hesitation. I smiled at her, warming my eyes to make her more comfortable. Luke left the alley first, Angie and I following. |

I saw Rider tense as soon as Luke asked the question. The question had offended him. And I didn't realize the Y gene in shifters were so dim." He snapped. Luke was speechless. So was I. Luke put his hands in the air, in a way suggesting he didn't want to fight. "Well," Rider said, trying to change the subject. "I haven't been in this city since the industrail revolution, so, care to go on a tour?" He offered his hand to me. I hesitated, but took his hand. He smiled at me. Luke turned to leave the alley first, Rider and I following. I wrinkled my nose. The city smelled just like the alley. I could tell Luke didn't like it either. We were going to have to get used to the city, and fast. |

As I lead her out of they alley, I noticed her nose crinkle up. "What, are you so young you haven't gotten used to the smell of this new era? When an old timer like me is? Some world we live in when that's case," I joked as I jabbed my elbow into her side, maybe a little too hard, because she flinched. "Sorry," I apologized, not without a laugh hidden away in my voice. She smiled up at me. If I could see through the back of his head, I'm sure Luke rolled his eyes. "Why don't you walk with your brother? He looks lonely," I commanded. I say 'commanded', because as I said it, I pushed her towards her twin. "Oh...okay," she stammered. Once alone, I lifted my nose to the air. I closed my eyes, and heard them start to whisper to each other. At first, only the putrid city smells wafted into my hypersensitive nostrils. However, in the mix of gasoline, body odor, purfume, cigarette smoke and alcohol, I smelled the rusty smell of a vampire, and the muddy smell of a witch. Only 180 degrees south from our current possition. My natural ciriousity got the better of me. "Hey, shifters," I began. They stopped their whispering and turned. "What do say I take over as tour guide?" I didn't wait for a responce, I just started walking. I know I only just met them, but I knew they'd follow. And sure enough, I heard jogging feet smack the pavement behind me. I know I'm not the ruler of this city, but you don't get as old as me by being oblivious to the dangers around you. I had to see if those invisibles were bad news or not. It would determine how long I'd get to stay here. You also don't get to live this long by putting yourself in danger. I looked behind me, and saw the siblings only a few feet behind me, still whispering. I kept it that way, until we were only a few yards away from the witch and vampire. "Come on, slow pokes. Let's not wait for the skyscrapers to erode on our heads," I half shouted with a wave of my arm. They walked faster, until they were as close to me as they could get without feeling TOO awkward. The invisible pair were standing a few buildings down. |

"What, are you so young you haven't gotten used to the smell of this new era? When an old timer like me is? Some world we live in when that's case," He joked, and elbowed me in the side. I flinched when he did that. It didn't really hurt. . .it was just a relfex. He apologized anyway, but he was also sort of laughing. I smiled at him, and I could sense Luke rolling his eyes. "Why don't you walk with your brother? He looks lonely." Rider suddenly said, pushing me forward. "Oh.....okay." I stammered. I walked up beside Luke. "You're allowed to talk to me now?" Luke asked, quietly so Rider wouldn't hear. "You don't trust him?" I asked. "Do you?" I thought about that for a minute. "I trust him enough not to hurt us. But I don't think I trust my life with him. Not yet, at least." Luke was about to respond Rider interupted us. "Hey, shifters." We stopped and looked at him. "What do you say I take over as tour guide?" Without waiting for an answer, he began walking in front of us. We caught up to him, and then continued our conversation. "I agree with you that." Luke replied. "It doesn't seem like he doesn't deserve our trust. . .I think we should be careful though. Not just with him, but with anyone we meet." I nodded. After what had happened, being careful with trusting people wouldn't be a problem. "Come on, slowpokes!" Rider called from up ahead. We jogged forward until we were a few feet away from him. I could see two people standing a little farther away. a wind began blowing toward us, carrying with it the scent of invisibles. |

I stared at the strange pair for a while, but to no prevail. They were too far, and it was too dark. Forget about what they say about cats' eyes, wolves are not as gifted. Instead we have a nose. Yeah, it's the strongest nose EVER, but come on, who wouldn't trade the best nose for brilliant eyesight and superb hearing? So I turned to the shifters, raising my hand up to stop them. They weren't expecting that, and rammed into my arm, both making a loud oomph! "Sorry," my apology slipped off my toung like a waterfall, quick and unclear. "Follow me. Make yourselves inconspicuous." I jogged a few steps to the left, until I was on the other corner of the building forming one side of the alley they were standing in. The shifters caught up eventually. "For the ability to shift into any animal you want, you guys are extremely slow." Angie put her hands on her hips, and Luke opened his mouth as if to say something, but that's as far as they got. "Now, there is a fire escape over there," I gestured to the corner of the building. "You're going to follow me up it after I've gotten to the top and have waited five seconds. No questions. Are we clear?" I looked at both of them, in turn. All I got were looks of hypocrisy and irony. "No questions, huh?" asked Luke with an eye roll. "Yeah, and you've already broken my first rule," I snapped with a glare. I recieved another eye roll. "Remember, five seconds." I ran to the other side of the building, and jumped, my arms grabbing the steps to the latter on the second floor. With a few more acrobatic movements, I was on the roof. I counted in my head. One one thousand. Two one thousand. Three one thousand. Four one- I heard the clang of metal, and Luke and Angie were standing on the roof with me. "What kind of seconds were you counting?" I asked, only half joking. |

Rider suddenly turned around and held out his hand for us to stop. Unfortunantly, we weren't expecting that, and crashed into him. "Sorry." He said quickly. "Follow me. Make yourselves inconspicuous." He jogged around the corner of a building, us following. When we caught up to him he turned to us. "For the ability to shift into any animal you want, you guys are extremely slow." I put my hands on my hips and Luke opened his mouth to say something, but Rider interuptted him. "Now, there is a fire escape over there," I gestured to the corner of the building. "You're going to follow me up it after I've gotten to the top and have waited five seconds. No questions. Are we clear?" He looked at both of us. "No questions, huh?" Luke asked, sarcasm in his voice. "Yeah, and you've already broken my first rule," Rider snapped, glaring at Luke. Luke just rolled his eyes. "Remember, five seconds." Rider said, before running over to the building. Luke counted to three before following, and I just followed him. We climbed the ladder with ease and stood next to Rider. "What kind of seconds were you counting?" He asked, half joking. "So why did we have to do all this?" I asked, ignoring his question. "If you wanted to see them, we could have just shifted into cats and told you what they looked like." |

"So why did we have to do all this?" She asked, ignoring my question. "If you wanted to see them, we could have just shifted into cats and told you what they looked like." her left eyebrow perked up. "'Why did we have to do all this'," I mimicked in a too high voice, my hands waving horizontally at my shoulders. "Because, ignorant Shifters, vampires may only be able to smell blood better than any other species, but if we are this high above him, there is no way he can smell us. And most witches can see auras, but because we are behind and above her, the risk of her seeing us will be 100:1." I almost snapped. You have to understand, when you've been around as long as me, you start expecting everyone to know everything you do, and tend to get annoyed when people don't. "She wouldn't be able to tell if we are Shifters or not, though," Luke equally almost snapped. If we weren't hideing, I would have cackled like lightning. I clutched my cramping sides as my silent laugh filled the air with its teasing tone. "Oh yes, she would," I managed to say when I caught enough breath. "I don't now too much about it, because I can't see auras myself, but I did research on it a while ago. Witches can see marks, or shapes, or something in the auras of everything that tell them a lot about it. If I were you, I wouldn't risk it." "Yeah, but you're not us," Angie snapped. She grabbed Luke's forearm in a death grip and yanked him towards her, much to his surprize. "Come on, Luke," she said to him, purposefully not looking at me. "This guy doesn't 'know for sure', which sounds to me like he doesn't know at all. Let's show him." "Oh...okay," Luke replied, looking and sounding very confused. "Yeah, prove me wrong. I'll be up here, watching you as you fail utterly," I sneered, arms crossed across my chest, my foot crossed over the other ankle, looking as smug as I ever could. |

While Rider sat there looking smug, Luke and I silently made our down to the ground. When we had both touched down, we looked up to see the two invisibles running down the street. "This could benefit us." Luke whispered in my ear. I nodded. "It'll be easier then approaching them. We might not have to get too close anymore." I put my hand on the moon necklace around my neck, and it glowed faintly at my touch. I took a breath, then looked at Luke. We both shifted into pidgeons and took to the air. He banked away from me, meaning to circle back around to come out in front of the two invisibles. I flew higher, but stayed behind. I had a good view of the two invisibles, who were jumping from building to building. One of them looked accustomed to the enhanced abilities, so that had to be the vampire. THe girl looked more like she wasn't used to it. That was the witch. The vampire suddenly stopped, and I heard him scream in pain. He tensed up, but then relaxed again. From my vantage point, I saw shadows moving around below. They must be the ones causing this. I hovered above until they started running again, then I continued flying. Suddenly the vampire stopped and screamed in pain again, his whole body tensing, and his grip on the girl getting tighter, so that she screamed in a chorus with him. Then, the vampire shouted something about on heir, and lifted the girl up. THe shadows shifting around disappeared, and the vampire continued running. Then I heard police sirens wailing as they came down the street. The vampire and the witch both jumped and landed on the car. The police officer got out and said something to them in a surprisingly calm manner, despite what had just happened. THe vampire stared at the cop, then said something to him. The officer now had a blank look on his face, and took his handcuffs and handed them to the vampire. The vampire then attached the cuffs to himself and the witch. The vampire was about to turn to leave when he tipped his head up and started sniffing the air. Out of no where, another vampire crashed into the vampire chained to the witch, knocking them both backward. THe first vampire tried to seperate the handcuffs, but the new one wouldn't him do that, punching him in the stomach. Then the witch stood up and stared hard at the new vampire. She murmured something, and the vampire burst into flames. I lighted down on one of the buildings to watch what happened next. The vampire wore a mix of emotions on his face, while the witch just looked guilty. |

I stood there, legs crossed, until I knew they touched the ground. This would soon end in my favor, and I'll get full 'ha ha, I was right, you were wrong' rights. A few seconds passed with nothing happening, so I sat down cross legged on the cold concrete roof of the building, my hands loosely thrown over my outward point knees. Another few seconds passed, but they felt like months. If I have to bear another minute of this bored agony, I'll shoot myself in the heart with the cursed Argentum. I had hung my head to show my despair to the nobody that was my audience, when a fluttering noise perked up my ears, and I raised my chin. Two nearly identical pidgons flew by. Could they be the Shifters? I thought. Maybe. I crawled to the edge of the building and looked down. WHAT?! No one, and I repeat, no one was in the alley. Dang it! They must of left with some witch's magical trick thing to make them escape the awesome power of my ears and nose. Oh well. I'm a wolf, and dogs like to chase things. Hey, I know wolves aren't dogs, but they're like cousins. It works. Smiling as that light danced it's way into my eyes, I took off at a running start towards the edge of the building, and leaped, my arms and legs flailing as I began my short cut down the 500ft building. Smiling as if I were high, I flipped so all my limbs faced the ground, and shifted. Usually the Shift isn't gradual nowadays. But you are forgetting, I'm an ancient. My Shift has had some practice. I'll tell you what it looked like. Picture me, in all my attractive good looks, falling the way I described, and once I hit the point of all the limbs facing the ground, I extend my arms like a swimmer in streamline, I kick my legs out, and my Shift takes place, progressing the more I sail through the air. By the time I hit the ground I'm in full wolf form - red fur with hints of brown and blonde and yellow-orange eyes. I am a little larger than your average werewolf, which also makes me way larger than your average wolf. Think: small horse. The moment my front paws touched the ground, I took off. Yeah, that's right, I can take off with only two legs. Talk about skills. As I ran, I tilted my head so my nose pointed straight at the sky and took a big o'l whiff of the pollution filled air. AH HA! This is where the explorer would shout, eureka! I caught the overlapping scents of a female witch and a male, turned vampire, which, by process of elimination, means I found my guys. I was about to howl, but caught myself. What city folk would want to hear a wolf howl in the middle of the night? No one. If this was morning, or earlier afternoon, perhaps, I would have, but not now. I chased their scents, which were above me, meaning they jumped from building to building. Classic vampire tactic. If I could, I'd shake my head at the predictability. If scents were colors, females had a pinkish red hue, and males had a purpleish blue hue. If I looked up, it was almost as if my eyes were in my nose, because I could see those colors making a fine trail just for me. There were things in those 'color lines' that told me what the thing was. For instance, witches carried black polka dots, and vampires held these grey triangle things. Emotions and power couldn't be 'seen', but they had their own distinct scents. Anger smelled like hot peppers, happiness like sugar, sadness like salt. I can't tell what they are feeling from this point, sadly. Eventually, they stopped. Stopping isn't want I was worried about, it was how they stopped. The vampire stood there, stuff as a door nail, almost inanimate except for the 'scent trail around him still fluttered faintly, indicating that he was still alive. I don't know why I am relieved. However, my relief was short-lived, for he screamed a scream of such agony and pain, it brought my wolf eyes close to tears, but because wolves can't cry, it forced my mouth open and I started panting even though I wasn't tired. His grip on the witch tightened, and she screamed a terrible scream, almost as bad as the vampire's, but much more shrill making it sound scarier. My attuned wolf ears would have been able to hear everything they were saying, but some humans started walking this way, so I quickly Shifted, cand hid in the shadows. My human heading is so much more acute than it is for normal humans, but not enough to ear what they were talking about. It also took me a while to realize that I'm standing in the shadow of a building, completely naked. F***ing s**t! I mentally screamed. I completely forgot about my clothes issue. A hurricane of shame blew straight into my core, and I was petrified. What am I going to do now? I looked around me. About a hundred yards away from my possition was the gate to the city, and beyond that was a forest. Hopefully I, or some other wolf, has been in that forest before at some point and made a clothing deposit. We wolves did that for each other; we'd leave clothes hidden away incase a wolf needed them, or if you were hunting, you'd hide your clothes so when you were finished, you wouldn't have to wonder around in the nude. Like I am right now. S**t, I wispered to myself. I really tried to not curse, but sometimes it just happens. Peeking out from the corner of the building, I checked to see if there were no pedestrians, and once clear, I bolted like a terrified cat (scared cats can run pretty fast) and I- Wait wait wait, did I just make a cat analogy? Ugh. I guess I get stupid when I display what my idea on public nudity is. Rewind! ...And once clear, I bolted like a lightning bolt (much better). I reached the gate, ran through, Nd practically dove into the neighboring greenery. I Shifted, and ran through the trees, sniffing frantically for the special wolf marker for a clothes storage, and no to you, perverts, it's not pee. We're more dignified than that. It's buried pee. After searching most of the forest, I finally found one next to a great big elm. I Shifted back to human form, and reached under the lifted tree root, pulling out a small wooden crate. Once pried open, I found a pair of flip-flops, a loose fitting green T-shirt, and a pair of brown kakis. Lucky for me, they were all in my size. I started putting the crate back, when a glint of something catching the moon light reflected into my eye. Opening the crate back up, I searched through the pile of remaining girl's clothes, and found an emerald that was sitting atop a golden band that was encrusted in sapphires. That is definatly a keeper. And it matches the color of the trinity knot I have tattooed to my right shoulder. I slipped in on my finger after I pulled all the clothes on. Finally, an outfit with no holes. Once dressed, I took off for the city again. By the smell of it, The witch and the vampire didn't go very far. I found their building, and lucky for me, this one had a fire escape. Jumping up and grabbing it, I scaled the various letters as stealthily as I could. I peeked my eyes over the top of the roof, and saw the witch standing uncomfortably, as the vampire lay down, propped up on one elbow, one leg extended, the other bent. The witch stuttered, "I-I can explain..." Instead of letting her, the vampire said, "You don't have to just yet." He sweeped his arm in my general direction. "We've got company, and I don't know if they are friend or foe." The witch girl turned around, but because she was standing I couldn't see her face. I guess this is my moment. I placed both hands on the edge of the roof and hoisted myself up. Once standing, I had the strangest and most random of thoughts, I was the tallest one there. I knew this because once my feet hit the concrete roof, the vampire stood up, too. He must like being in charge, and even though he can't sense how old I really am, he is trying to enforce that. What was strange, though, is I got the same feeling from the necromancer. However, the guilt she was feeling towards the vampire muffled that a bit. As I greeting, I received from the girl a one-handed choke and a, "Who the hell are you, and what are you doing spying on us?" Her German accent dripping venom. I grabbed her arm, and pulled on it so she was no longer choking me. She put up a small fight, but in the end I over powered her. However, this action did cause the vampire to take a step towards us. Putting a hand to my chest, I said, "I'm Rider. Rider Rhodes. Killer guitarist, possessor of devilishly attractive good looks, and werewolf extraordinaire, Miss. Necromancer. Mr. Vampire," I nodded at each of them when I said their title. I got a wary glare from the witch as she took a step back, and she said after her third staggered step, "Zane." "And may I be graced with the pleasure of knowing your name?" I asked the vampire, trying to lighten the mood with jokes. He glared at me heavier than the witch did. Obviously, he is one of the vampires with a strife against wolves. I've never had a care for vampires myself, but I was willing to try to at least get on allied terms with this one. "Dimitri," he practically spat at me, a back turn following not far behind. "Well, this had been a nice greeting, but we're sadly missing two additions to our get together. Now, where are those Shifters? They're always so slow," I finished with a laugh. I don't know why I expect us all to meet. It's just a feeling I got all of a sudden. So why not follow it? I've always been one up for that kind of thing. Looking up, I smiled, "oh, that must be them, now." Edited by ApexOfMisery, Feb 19 2012, 09:10 AM.
