I arrived at a city, and found out I am in Arizona. The hotel I'm staying at is probably the most hospitable I've been to in this country during this visit. They don't know who I really am, because they're just ignorant humans, so instead they think I'm a really rich German countess. Boy, is it fun to mess with the maids. I keep calling them servants, in a more pronounced German accent than my weakened one. I say weakened, because after all my travels as a young child and early teenager, my previously thicker accent has been dimmed by all the other ones I've come into contact with. On this particular day, I feel like being a little more snotty than usual. Why? Well, because I should be going home by tonight. My father's right hand man is personally coming to get me in new York. So I just have to be there by midnight, and I'm good to go. In the meantime, I'll settle on messing with people. A 'servant' girl walked into my room, a tray overtopped with various goodies being dragged behind her. "Why, how nice of you to finally show up. I've only been waiting here for what? Ten minutes?" I sneered. "That sounds about right," she replied, extra bubbly, vshowing me she was going to be 'oblivious' to my remarks. Well, two can play at that game, b****. "Well, ten minutes too long, don't you think?" i flicked my jaw, making my short hair flip ad much as it cloud behind my shoulder. In the sweatest voice i could muster, I continued, "I may have to tell your boss to work you harder, so you may learn to, er... Speed up your process." I barred my teeth. Technically, it was a smile. But one that never reached the eyes. Her face. Oh, I will never forget that expression that crossed her face like a sliding protective disk across a camera lens. Starting from the top, her expression changed from almost equally smug, to anxious. Man, did I laugh at her. "I don't think you'd want me to do that, huh?" I rhetorically asked. I got up from the bed I was previously slouched on. And crossed the room to her in the most graceful yet quick way I could. Which was me, practically flying a few inches off the floor. I've had so many 'princess' lessons, I'm probably be the most graceful person you'd ever meet. I stopped just shy of three inches from her face. I could tell she was scared of me. It was written in that hazel color of her eyes, clear as the bold print in newspaper headings. She tried to be brave though. I chuckled. "Cute," I said, speaking my thought aloud, and smiling wickedly wilst doing so. She was considering running out of the room. I could tell by the way she turned her shoulders slightly closer to the door. She wasn't leaving for either: A) she's too scared, 2) she's staying out of respect for the noble in front of her, or C) she wants to see what I'll do next. Either way, I'm going to get some fun out of this. "Y...you wouldn't t-talk t-to my b-b-boss, would you?" she stuttered. "Maybe," I replied, extending the word. "If you do something for me." Some of her old bravado came back. "It depends," she said through narrowed eyes. "Don't worry, I'm sure you would not mind this little task at all." I led her over to the middle of the floor, put her in front of me, and then pressed on her shoulders hard enough for her to understand I wanted her to sit down. She sat. "Now, I want you to close your eyes. And that's it. Just keep them closed until I say so, and you'll go free." "What to you mean, fr-" she started, her eyes already closed. "Shhhhh" I whispered. "Don't speak. Just sit there silent. Like the good... Mouse that you are." She nodded her head, but it never came down. She had already started shrinking. Once she was no longer than from the edge of my big toe to the edge of my smallest, fine white hairs sprouted out of her skin, until she was covered. I have always been exceptionally proud of myself when I could transfigure someone and their clothes stay on as if they are part of the skin. Once it stopped growing, whiskers shot out of her cheeks, and a long worm tail shrooped! out of her butt. Her fingernails became hairwidth claws. And her fingers became paws. A litte mouse now sat where she was previously sitting. It, well, she lifted her nose to the air, and sniffed. I laughed. This is the most successful transfiguration I'd ever accomplished to date. Well, I had my fun. Time to change her back. "Ad pristinam formam," I said, pointing at her rodent body. The transformation back was almost immediate. And the best thing? She thought it was all a dream. "Countess, I...I had the strangest feeling..." she whispered to me, awe or surprise filling her voice. She was standing on her feet again, and leaned over to me, digging her head into. Y shoulder. "it's alright," I whispered back, pushing her back up and cupping her face in my hand. "You don't have to tell me. Now go." she bowed, I don't know why, and fled the room as if running from a storm. I watched her go, then turned my back. It is nearly eleven. New York, Ho! I thought. I clapped my hands together. Thinking, ad urbs novum eboracum. ...and in the big apple I was. People walked everywhere. Cars barely moved on the streets. Heck, the walkers were making more progress than the drivers. There were a few invisibles in this city, which I should have expected. It's one of the most populated cities in the country. There were even more halflings and lower here too. I remember Westly, my dad's right hand man, telling me to meet him I front of the doors to the empire state building. Because I didn't know where that was, I decided to use the same tracking spell I used in the field back in Arizona. However, because I was in a more populated place, I'd need to use a little more magic that usual because I can't put my hand on the ground. I walked until I got next to a building not many people were walking by. Taking my four inch - close-toed pumps off my never aching feet, I now stood on the cold concrete. Concentrating hard, I looked deep into the ground. Because I was technically looking through my feet, it took a lot more magic and energy because your feet are at the bottom of your body. By the time I found the building, I was ready to sleep for days. It only took me only a few minutes until I was waiting in front of the empire state building. It is now 11:57. I won't have to wait too long. Knowing Westly, he is going to be here right on the dot, no exceptions. I've always hated him for it, but with how tired I am, I was willing to agree to a change of heart. Only, it soon became 12:05. Then 12:15. And at 12:30, I began getting really frustrated. Where was he? I growled. So much for waiting here. I know new york has some pretty amazing hotels, so I'll just go stay in one tonight, and contact Westly tomorrow. And understand this: it won't be a pleasant conversation. For him, at least. I strolled across the various streets of this big city, taking in all the sites. Even now, many people were still walking. I was surprized at the number of fat people. You'd think that in a city that never sleeps, and only walks, everyone would be as fit as an Olympic athlete. Whatever. Walking for another few minutes, I started to sense something. I caught a wisp of blood, mixed with too much perfume. Oh no!, was my innicial thought. Those vampires again! I considered running, but I remembered I had left most of them in Wichitah, and the ones who followed me are dead. Knowing this, I decided to investigate. The smell lead me to a dark alley. Only two auras were glowing, one a faint green, with no mixed colors, indicating a human. And it was getting dimmer by the second. The other one, nearly blinding me from growing engergy, was the normal black and red mix for a vampire, but had bits of violet in it, telling me he was turned. judging by the amount of violet, I could tell he was turned a long time ago. A very long time ago. He was soon finished feeding, and dropped the body on the pavement. It's head hit the wall behind it with a loud crack. The vampire was still hunched over, arms still hanging downward. Slowly, he stood up. His head turned. Toward me. Until the deep red of his eyes locked on mine. They blazed like a thousand suns, and we're more red than the deepest rubies. I gasped. I don't know how long it's been since I had done that to anyone but my dad. He stepped forward until his pale, flawless face was bathed in the white light of the moon, giving his breathtaking eyes a more purple hue. His features were sculpted by a master craftsman, it was obvious. The bridge of his nose was perfectly straight, and the tip turned up slightly, as if it was debating weather or not it wanted to be a button. His lips, thin as they were, made his more feminine jaw look slightly wider, giving him a face that was masculine, yet beautiful. I never thought it possible, but I think I fell love. Then, his perfect mouth moved, and he spoke. "Hello. My name is Dimitri." Edited by ApexOfMisery, Jan 12 2012, 09:55 PM.

Sweat. It rolled down my face in tiny beads, a rare sight for such a magnificent creature as I. That stupid necromancer had held me back, now I might not make it to the rendezvous point in time. My fist flew into the steel wall, a large crater indented in its shiny, silver surface. At this point, they might be all the way across town. I glanced up at the perfectly round clock, each tick of the second hand in sync with the beating of my lifeless heart. I had mere minutes before the meeting occurred. I couldn't mess this up. I bolted out of the empty lobby through the glass doors as they teetered back and forth, squeaking as they slowed to a halt. The bright lights of the sleepless city whizzed by as I passed through the areas void of inhabitants. I leaped up, digging my super-powered fingers into the side of the brick building, scaling it like a swift serpent. From the top, my binocular eyes scouted the area, deciding which path best to choose. I danced across each building gracefully, while still staying focused on the mission at hand. At least for a while. An aroma of blood wafted over the area, enticing me and beckoning me to come try it. I turned my head towards its direction to find an innocent woman, practically asking me to make her my prey as she strolled down the pitch-black street lined with half-working street lights that flickered ominously. "Greetings." I appeared in front of her, my skin glowing in the moonlight, immediately entrancing her and putting her under my spell. I strutted up to her, brushing her dark brown her from neck, allowing me to feed. My fangs slid out as smoothly as butter, and I threw her body up into the closest alley, where no bystanders would notice the horrific occurrence if they walked by. I dug my sharp fangs into the side of her neck, striking a major vein. The crimson liquid spouted from her neck, splattering across the multicolored bricks. She let out a shriek, an instinct, so I had to shut her up. I rested my hands across either side of her head, twisting it in one fluent motion, killing her instantly. Her limp body fell into my arms, allowing me to slurp the blood out slowly from her vein without her drawing any attention to us. That was when I noticed. I lifted my head from my victim, letting her slide onto the floor like a slimy worm. There was a girl there. The girl. I slid my jacket sleeve across my blood-stained lips, mopping up as much as possible before I stepped into the moonlight, and spoke. "Hello, my name is Dimitri." |

I had no time. She was a powerful necromancer, but she was nowhere near as experienced as I was. I stared into her eyes, my pupils thinning as I unleashed my strongest ability. "You will come with me." It seemed to half affect her, but she was the heir to the throne after all, and royalty coursed through her veins. She wasn't going down quite that easily. Fortunately for me, she didn't have to. She was already falling for me, and I didn't even have to try. Curse my beauty. I grabbed her arm, taking her with me throughout the city, leaping again from building to building. Everything was falling into place. "We have to get out of here," I spoke to her. It seemed odd hearing my own voice since it'd been so many hours since I had heard it. Just silence, and the shrieks of my victims. She followed me, no struggle. She was willing to go with me, willing to give up her life as heir to the necromancer throne to join me. In a way, it was pathetic, but at the same time it was also flattering. The term "actions speak louder than words" had never meant so much to me. I didn't know where I was taking her, but it was far. This was a risky operation, and I'd already screwed once when I was distracted by that human. I wasn't letting that happen again. Suddenly, I felt a pulse. My mind was shaking, and I couldn't remember what was going on, where I was, even who I was. It was as if my mind had drawn a blank. The agony was too much, and I screamed, something I never do. My grip tightened around the girls arm, and she screamed too. That was the key. The wave of energy stopped, and I knew what was going on. My memories flooded back to me, and I understood the way to keep these necromancers away. "I have the heir!" I turned to her, raising my index finger to cover my lips, signaling her to just follow along. "If you attack, she goes down with me, and I don't think you want that. I'm sure your leader wouldn't be too happy knowing that you were the reason his daughter is dead." Silence. I motioned the girl to follow me as I stepped cautiously across the rooftop, as if I was walking on a minefield, with each step having a chance of being my last. "Smart people." I mumbled, before I took off. From my peripheral, I saw it. Sirens blared, and red and blue lights flashed across the sides of each building, illuminating the night. A cop was in pursuit of someone else, nothing significant. I jumped, hurtling through the air, taunting death, as I landed roughly on the top of the front of the car, the girl close behind. We stood in the crater as he smacked his foot across the brake pedal, bringing the car to a stinging halt. "What the hell is going on here?" he shouted as he threw his car door open, apparently unfazed by the fact that his car had a massive crater in the front. I stared into his eyes like with the other girl, but I don't think she noticed what was going on. She was too unfamiliar with vampires to know about this power that is so rarely used, but all are capable of. "Handcuffs, now." He lowered his arm to his belt, removing a set of steel cuffs. I attached one to my right arm, and one to the girl's left arm. That would keep those necromancers from getting a hold of us. I let the cop go, but would soon be facing a new threat. I took a big whiff of the air, and realized instantly, there was a challenger. Another vampire was ready to fight. |

His stench was untraceable. It was all over the place. It was over there. No, it was over there. Wait, maybe there. He was lightning fast, unmatched by most. I tried to break the cuffs, but he wouldn't let that happen. He knew how important this girl was somehow, and he wouldn't stop until I was dead and he could take his prize. He bolted forward and smacked his palm against the center of my chest, causing a pop that threw me, and the girl, back against the wall. I picked myself up, but this was gonna be tough. If he wouldn't let me fight without her, then I'd fight with her. I lunged at him, throwing my hand out to smack him away, but he threw it back with one arm, and punched me in the stomach with the other, forcing me to crumble onto the ground. I had him right where I wanted him. By showing weakness, I made it appear that I was a much younger and inexperienced vampire than I really was. He was probably thinking that |

His pupils narrowed like a cat's. A snake would be more accurate. Nonetheless, it didn't fail to entice me. I knew enough about vampires to understand they could compel other beings, and this compulsion ability worked better on the opposite gender, but I never knew turned vampires could do it. Maybe some do, and some don't? Either way, I only knew he had this strange and desired ability because I felt a slight tug at my third eye, the strongest point for psychic abilities. His compulsion isn't what made me do as he willed, though, it was...something else. "You will come with me," he ordered. Now, I may have a crush on this guy, but that doesn't make me stupid. Being the heir to the witch's throne, and being in possession with the most important artifact to be protected makes you a little more careful on who to trust. Suddenly, a plan jumped into my head: I will fein infatuation and let him believe I am under his spell, that way he won't suspect me of understanding what he may be planning, and if a moment arises, I will take him down and set him up for interrogation. And let me tell you, if you had to ask anyone in my kingdom, you'd rather die a slow and painful death than go through an interrogation session with the one and only. The next thing that happened was his strong hand grabbed my bicep and he pulled me alongside him. I tripped purposefully every now and then, making it seem as if I am in a trance, unaware of myself and my surroundings. Soon, we climbed up a fire escape and were building hopping. I don't have any 'superpowers' in the sense that I don't have enhanced speed or strength, so jumping from building to building was something new, terrifying, and amazing, almost like flying. I smiled. It was a really good thing Dimitri was more focused on making it to the next building without falling than me, or else my cover would have been blown. We stopped on a building, and he said to me, "We have to get out of here." his voice had cracked slightly, not because of peuberty, I could tell that. Perhaps from lack of use? Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter. His deep - but not too deep - voice was like a spicy chocolate, sweet, with something else added to give it an extra kick. He held onto my arm as we continued jumping from building to building (he probably understood my lack of enhanced strength) and heading toward the city gates. My natural ciriousity grew as I wondered were we we're going. After a long while of this constant mix of short sprints and mighty leaps, I was beginning to get tired. I began to suspect Dimitri didn't know Where we were going, either. All of a sudden, Dimitri stopped cold, as if turned to stone, and the grip on my arm first strengthened, then slackened to less than it was before. I could have pulled away easily, if I wanted to. But I didn't want to. I wanted to see what would happen when all this played out. The look in Dimitri's eyes was like a blind person who thought they could almost see, but the vision was behind a translucent veil, there, but just a step out of reach. All this happened in a split second, because his grip tightened yet again, but this time stronger than ever before. He was probably using his full, or close to his full, vampire strength, and he screamed a high pitched, almost demonic, scream full of pure agony. A scream you'd hear come from someone burning in the never ending fires of Hell. He reminded me of Polythemus, of the Greek myth. A mortal who had the nerve to steal fire from the gods, but was caught and was chained to a cliff, doomed to a punishment of an egale eating his innards in the day, and his guts growing back at night so is suffering would never end. I couldn't hang onto the thought for too long, becuase in another split second, his grip tightened even tighter (how tight can he squeeze!? Holy s**t!) The pain was so great, I involuntarily added my soprano screech to his demon wail, creating some kind of melody to our twisted hymn. All of a sudden, as quickly as it began, it stopped. His grip slackened -not enough for me to run, but enough so it wasn't deathly painful- and a look of recognition swam into his eyes like an ocean wave to the shore. Only this wave didn't pull away. "I have the heir!" he shouted, staring at me, a finger pressed to his lips, signaling to be quiet. Waitwaitwait, hold up. Did he say HEIR?! How could he know my secret? A VAMPIRE no less? I fought the urge to press my finger to the warmth pulsating through the eyebrow peircing I needed to guard with my life. I didn't, though. That would have blown my cover. "If you attack, she," he pulled my arm up, lifting me off the ground for a moment. "goes down with me, and I don't think you'd want that. I'm sure you're leader wouldn't be too happy knowing you were the reason his daughter is dead," he finished with a nervous smirk. My stupidity act must have been superb, because only now did I see all the auras fading into the horizon in a 360 around me and my undead companion. S**t, I'm an idiot. Dimitri took a few steps forward, and motioned for me to follow. Only now did I realize he let go of my arm. After a dazed moment, I obeyed his sweeping hand. He walked carefully, deliberately. He was anxious, and I pitied him, in a way. These were my people he was trying to protect himself from, and I was letting him go through this minefield. But I couldn't do anything. If I did, he'd know his trick never worked on me, and my subjects will think I'm a traitor. Neither one of those things were an option. All I could do was follow, my eyes trained on two different things. To everyone else, I'd have looked blind. Edited by ApexOfMisery, Feb 9 2012, 06:34 PM.

"Smart people," he mumbled under his breath. It sounded more like a growl. Almost simultaneously, he took off, grabbing me by the arm yet again at the last second, almost as if he forgot I was there. We barely made it 50 yards when police sirens went off, the noise and lights filling the dark air. They weren't after us, though. So I guess that is a good thing. Out of nowhere, he jumped off the building, toward the car, holding me for half of the fall, but he released me about 50 feet from the ground. I could sense that all the other necromancers left, and Dimitri is below me, so I made a small invisible force field below my feet to catch me from seriously injuring myself. He landed on the top of the car, and I landed on the trunk. We both created rather large dents. The car came to a sliding stop as the driver slammed his foot to the break. The police officer kicked the door open, stood up and stared at us, acting quite calm dispite the fact that his car is totaled and there are two strange people standing on it. "What the hell is going on here?" the cop shouted, making wild hand gestures. Dimitri stared into the man's eyes, and by the sudden fusion of Dimitri's tri-colored aura and the man's rusty brown one, I knew he was compelling him. "Handcuffs," Dimitri commanded, extending his arm. "Now." the policeman reached down to his belt, and handed Dimitri the cuffs, never looking down to see what he was doing. Once in possession of the cuffs, Dimitri turned towards me, lifted me off the trunk and onto the roof of the car so I was standing next to him, and he attached one ring to his right wrist, and the other to my left. I assumed he did this so he wouldn't have to hold onto my arm anymore, or to ensure the fact that I wouldn't be able to run away. Dimitri released his hold on the cop, who stumbled after being released, and clutched his head as he got back into his destroyed car. We jumped off, and he drove away, the bumper screeching on the asfalt as the car progressed slowly to wherever it was police officers went. We took a few steps in one direction, when Dimitri stopped, and sniffed a big o'l sniff of the air. Vampire smell isn't much better than humans, except they can smell blood from a few miles away, and a few other things I didn't bother to remember. I looked around. Maybe I could see whoever it was's aura. I didn't see anything at first, but if I looked close enough, I could see a shimmer of black that didn't match the black behind it. The shimmer shifted, and little spots of red danced within. Oh great, another vampire? |

I knew where he was, but Dimitri didn't have that much luck. He eyes searched frantically, and he took more sniffs, each sniff more intense than the last. This vampire had a speed greater than that of Dimitri, but he didn't bother to use it to his full potential. Istead, he would extend his aura to fill in certain places around us, making his stench fill the air along with it, making him seem ubiquitous. Dimitri grabbed at the cuffs and he tried to tear them off, frantically pulling at them. Unfortunately, this vampire wasn't going to let us be separated, maybe just yet. He ran forward, straight towards us, and smacked Dimitri on the center of his chest, full force, knocking Dimitri and I into the wall behind us. Dimitri got up after a moments hesitation, and I followed suit. Dimitri lunged, but the vampire grabbed his hand, and punched Dimitri in the stoumach, who then bent forward, clutched his middle, heaving. I couldn't let this charade go one any longer. I locked my gold-red eyes on this vampires pitch black ones. I couldn't intensify the spell, we were too close and it might recoil on Dimitri and me. I'd have to make due with eye contact. I held my gaze and locked it, so he would be unable to look away. His smile soon slipped, and turned to a look of absolute worry. One corner of my mouth twitched up, and I wispered, "In ignis tū." in the next moment, a ring of fire shot out of the ground around him, and grew closer and closer to him until it engulfed him in its flames. After a minute or two, he was gone, and nothing remained except a small pile of ashes, a faint red ring where the fire orgionated from, and the ring of his screams reverberating faintly in the air until it diffused into the air, leaving us in silence. The only thing that backfired, was Dimitri witnessed the whole scene, and was now staring at me with awe, ciriousity, and some other emotion. A mix of anger and worry would be most actuate, but not quite it. "I-I can explain," I stammered. Edited by ApexOfMisery, Feb 11 2012, 05:45 PM.

What an interesting turn of events. Then compulsion had to have had some effect on her, but clearly she was still aware of her surroundings. I knew the royalty in her blood gave her immense powerful, but I hadn't expected her to be this powerful. This might be harder than I had originally planned for. I changed my face to a smirk, not wanting her to realize that she had caught me off guard. "You know I could've handled that myself." With my free hand I yanked the glimmering unicorn horn from within my jacket, holding it in front of her. She looked at it quizzically, still naive when it came to the supernatural world. She had yet to witness the things I had. She had still retained her innocence. "So, are you going to be a good girl and come with me, or are you going to use your freedom to finish me off. I'm wide open. If you plan on taking me down, I'd do it now." I slammed my hand against the handcuffs, shattering them into pieces, and freeing her from my control. With my arms outstretched, I took several steps back, allowing her to strike me if she so chose. But she wouldn't. Compulsion or not, I had her under my control, no matter how free she thought she was. |

Dimitri smirked, the look of his surprize dissapearing instantly. "You know I could've handled that myself," he said while reaching into his jacket, producing a unicorn horn. He held it out in front of me, looking at it as if he had thousands back home, and this one was nothing. Whereas I was gawking. I had always suspected that unicorns existed, for I had to learn about other creatcures like faeries, elves, dwarves, goblins, all the humanoid creatures, so why couldn't they exist either? But then again, this could be a fake. I've seen pleanty of those around. I stared at it, uncertainty ebbing it's way into my thoughts about the horn. I looked up at Dimitri, about to ask him about it, when he started talking. In a tone I did NOT approve of. "So are you going to be a good girl and come with me, or are you going to use your freedom to finish me off?" If I didn't mind this guy before, now I really don't like him. NO ONE talks to me like a kid. Not even my parents. Before I could retaliate, he continued. "I'm wide open. If you plan on taking me down, I'd do it now." Before I could react, he used his instense vampire speed to break the handcuffs with the side of his hand. The chain that had connected us broke into dozens of tiny peices, flying through the air like flies. He opened his arms wide and stepped back, putting at least a five yards distance between us. I didn't know what to do. He was smirking at me, daring me to make a move. Instead, all I did was stand there. This was one of those times when I wish that my 'witch gift', as I call it, wasn't seeing auras and was reading minds. His smirk intensified the more I stood there, and he crossed his arms over his chest, raising one eyebrow while doing so. Before he could take a step forward, I shot him a smirk of my own. His face read, 'oh, what's she going to do, now?' Well, I'll just show you, vampire. I crossed my own arms across my chest, and smiled a smile that didn't reach my eyes. Notching my chin into the air, I swished my floor length red skirt (my favorite, the one that's a deep red with black lace on the hem), making sure it flaired up around my ankles. When my back was turned, in the hautiest voice I could muster, I said, "You're not worth my time, vampire. I have better things to do than pretend I'm under your spell." I turned my head to the side with out turning my back away from him. This allowed me to see him out of only one eye, and even though it gave me a huge headache, it was all about the effect, so I dealt with it, and gave him a taunting smile. Of what I could see, he was trying very hard to hide the shock from his face. Wow, he actually believed that his compulsion worked? He clearly needed to do more research on witches. Now I turned completely around, facing him square. "I will admit that I was cirious as to why you wanted me so much, but now I'm just bored. I thought hanging with a vampire would be more fun, but I guess not." I looked at my wrist, starring at a watch that wasn't there. "Oh, now would you look at the time! I really must be going now. Ta ta!" I walked away this time, not looking back. I heard his feet moving, but didn't bother to check was he was doing. I began opening a portal, but was only halfway there when I was tackled by something. I hit the ground hard, and who ever tackled me grabbed me by the back of my head and slammed my face down into the concrete, knocking me out. Edited by ApexOfMisery, Jul 26 2012, 09:19 AM.
