The Isanna came from the people of Earth during 15-1600 when whites were making incursions into Lands of the ingenious Americans. However on Gor they settled in the Barrens. The Isanna kept to themselves maintaining this heritage of their Ancestors via the Elders. The Yellow Kailla Warriors(***)a warrior society, kept the peace
They are also a warrior tribe of the Kaiila Nation. Where the 5 tribes would unite if any white broke the Laws of the Barrens
It would be a wise white to tread carefully on Isanna Lands.
White word is no longer trusted as many broken promises led the Isanna to wage war upon the white soldiers.
For almost two generations the two fought battles across the Barrens. The whites had numbers and the Isanna the YKR.
Their ability to outmaneuver the whites, knowledge of the Barrens and ability to ride long distances quickly enabled them to strike when it suited. The whites grew tired of this unwinnable war and were driven off the Barrens.
Under the guidance of the Elders the YKR patrols now limit the number of whites permitted on their Lands.
To be found on the Barrens by the Riders would necessitate an explanation by any white. Any disputes, even white traders, immediately incurs the wrath of the YKR and the whites 'disappear'.
After what the whites called the "Isanna Wars" they attempted to alleviate any future disputes by giving the Isanna a right to trade their goods outside the Barrens, at the Market A symbolic gesture of truce the Isanna were wary of ..nor necessarily kept to...
Beyond this the Elders believe there wss no other place for the Isanna. A white is that, and to pretend otherwise was an insult.
('halfbreeds'- due to those captured - were a reality and had to prove their place amongst the Isanna)

If you were luckily enough to be allowed to travel across the Isanna Lands you would see Council Rock in the distance. Rumor would have told you that beneath its shadow lies the Isanna camp.
upon reaching a clearing an Isanna patrol would emerge from the forest nearby. Confonted by a line of twenty Riders your progreee would be hindered.
The Isanna were mount on Kaiila, replenished in the markings of the Rider. It would be obvious that any further intrusion into the Barrens would be futile.
Each kaiila had tassles drooping from its flanks, made from the fine hair of captives. All the Riders wore the painted faces of a hunting/war party, spears held a loft.Within their hair and attached to their shields would be many coup feathers.Bows would be slung over their backs, tomahawk and in some cases bone crushers hang from their belts.Presenting an awesome sight each kailla would have worn the red symbol of the Rider on their use as war mounts. For what would seem an eternity there would be silence as they communicated in hand signals. Throughout this not one kaiila moved.
Eventually one would drop to the ground and sit cross legged, indicating you were to do the same. Now at a disadvantage their was no other option. The Isanna Rider spoke perfect Gorean and sought your intentions. After much discussion he stood and made it clear you were to follow.
What met you eyes was beyond any previous description given by other travelers. Those of the Barrens would know the transition of the Isanna. Yet nothing prepared you for the large thriving, prosperous bustling campsite when during the day was a hive of activity.

The teepees were large, the exploits of their owners displayed on the sides in colorful signs or drawings. Your mount having been taken to the pens you look up to the imposing Council Rock.
Along one side a grand longhouse stood strong and tall. It had been built well and remained the largest building in the campsite. Eyesight alone told the experienced this would be an almost invincible structure under any attack.Only those of the Barrens and their slaves were permitted into the Longhouse.
If you were white eyes would be upon you in an instant, the older boys more so. The elder women look up in pride and the slaves turned from your gaze. Amongst them were a number of white slaves who were quickly moved out of your sight.
You would surprisingly be taken to the central fires where you would be treated with courtesy. To an outsider the wrong impression would be taken by this. For always nearby were the YKR.Those of the Barrens would greet the YKR accordingly to their status amongst the Kailla Nation.
The blazing Central Fires is where stories were told and information shared. Your own presence made both of interest. It is here you would wait for an Elder or Chief to greet you. If staying long a teepee would be assigned, with a YKR always near you.
