word count The first rays of the morning sun broke through the window and Cyan groaned. His sleep had been restless the night before. How could it not be considering what was going to happen today? Holy crap. Today's the day. Today's the day I get my own POKEMON! he exclaimed mentally, jumping up and throwing his window open energetically. A wild, carefree grin was on his face as he checked his appearance out in the mirror. There were no weird blemishes, no sudden growths that would prevent him from being a Pokemon trainer he hoped. The house had been crowded all week. His sisters had traveled from the big city and their busy lives to congratulate his graduation from high school. A new chapter of his life was beginning. Despite his father's protests, he didn't want to go to the university, not even to become a Ranger. He wanted to train. He wanted to see the world and the grand sites that it had to offer. Surprisingly, all of his sisters were encouraging. Not a single one protested to his idea and this didn't please his father. After the graduation ceremony, he'd retired to a quiet pond down by their house, fishing despite his bad back and avoiding any kind of communication with his son. Thinking about the distance between his father and himself made a bad feeling well up in the pit of Cyan's stomach. Parting with his dad on bad terms was the last thing he wanted. Shrugging off those thoughts, Cyan moved to the closet and found all of his things. Throwing on his jacket, the gloves, pants, and backpack, he checked himself out once more in the mirror and grinned. He was ready for this. He was ready to take on the world and all the dangers out there. Cracking his knuckles, he rushed outside where his mother was cooking him up a big breakfast. The sizzling smell of bacon filled his nostrils and Cyan felt an urge to eat well up in him. Thinking back, he never actually did eat anything the night before. He'd ran home, thrown off his graduation gown, and immediately went to bed. He wanted the night to be over because his appointment with the professor was the next day. "Oh King. It's good to see you up." His mom sounded happy. "Good to be up. Is the food almost done? I wanna hurry up and get to the lab." To his mother, it would be obvious that the idea of staying in one place too long didn't sit well to him. Sitting down at the dinner table and hastily eating an appetizing roll, he waited on the bacon and eggs to finish. His mom was famous wherever she went for her capabilities as a baker. Her rolls were top-notch. Hand kneaded, baked to a golden perfection and glazed with a light coating of butter. If the people in his family weren't so physically active, they'd all have tubby guts. "Your father wants to talk to you when you get back from the lab." She said simply, the way her voice trailing off making it seem like there was something more she wanted to say. "You know I went off on my own journey when I was your age. It's not all fun and games on the road. If you're out in the middle of nowhere and something happens to your Pokemon...well, it's not a fun situation to be in." "I'd never let something happen to my Pokemon. They're all gonna be my friends and friends look out for friends!" He exclaimed in this low voice that sounded like it would hear no argument. When it came to Pokemon, Cyan was adamant about how much he adored them and would go to any length for those entrusted to his care. "I would've been okay to go when I turned thirteen." He grumbled. The arguments he'd had with his family were still clear as day. They wanted him to finish his education first. The break he'd take for his journey would set him back. His parents acted like a few months away from schoolbooks would kill him. It was annoying, but he loved his parents. He was grateful for everything they did, but on this one subject, he certainly disagreed with them. "You believe that. But the roads are dangerous, and not just from the Pokemon. There's that team they talk about on the news and they're not the only bad people. We just wanted you to be ready. There'll be endless Pokemon and lots of opportunities, but there'll only ever be one you. You're precious to this family." And there she went, jabbing him in the heart with something genuinely sweet. Cyan could never argue with his mom. "Yeah, yeah...well, I'm here now." Was all he could muster in reply to that. Their conversation turned idle after that. They talked about the weather, the Wailord he stood on when he was little, and that awesome spectacle when his dad caught the red gyarados. "Heh. Even if dad doesn't do the whole training thing, I have a tall reputation to live up to." His dad was the reason he wanted a water Pokemon as his starter. He'd boiled down his choices to either Totodile or Squirtle. "Eat it while it's hot." Cyan's mom said with a cute smirk on her face. She sat his bacon and eggs on the table and let him have at it. Apparently, his sisters were all still asleep. Considering that he promised them he'd have his first Pokemon and his gear before he saw them again, he was glad they were still sleeping. It was his turn to smirk when he noticed that the scrambled eggs were shaped like a wailmer, with bacon for its eyes and teeth. "Heh." He said before wolfing it down. Cyan appreciated the thought but he had to get this food down. Not ten minutes later, he was all done, standing up and ready to get out the door. Grinning, he looked back at his mom and waved. "Be back soon!" Stepping out the door, he was hit by the amazing fragrance of their garden. The sole sister that still lived with him, Erica, considered it her pride and joy. The garden was filled with a variety of flowers. Tulips, Roses, Lilies, there was nothing his sister couldn't grow. The air was warm, summertime rolling through the town. "What a great time to be alive!" It was said with the enthusiasm of youth. Walking quickly through the garden, Cyan jumped over their fence in his haste and ran down the path. In their neighbor's yard, a Snorlax was napping with its trainer on its belly. "Hey Chao!" Cyan waved to the Snorlax, who lazily waved back in its slumber. Cyan could certainly understand why his father would want to move to this rustic town after all the hustle and bustle he'd put up with in the big city. This was a simple town, ran by simple folk. Cyan didn't want to stay simple forever. He ran past the town hall, past the windmill on the hill. The wind ran through his hair and he followed the path towards the lab as a melody his eldest sister used to sing for him rang through his head. "On the road again~. I can't wait to get on the road again~." His voice was surprisingly on key. Singing was a talent many people didn't expect from someone like him. Miltanks on the ranch mooed and waved as he ran by, most of them used to his presence. When he was bored, he'd help on the ranch and talk to the rancher's daughter. Like him, she was eager to start on her journey but held back by the demands of her family. Valor Flats just seemed to attract those kinds of people. It just came with the territory of having a Pokemon lab in the area. Finally, Cyan stood in front of the gates of the lab. He'd visited a lot, pestering Professor Cypress and helping her take care of the starters. Of course she had lab aides and the like but all the extra help she could get was welcomed. Standing there now, a sudden nervousness overcame Cyan. It appeared out of nowhere and it was the oddest thing. After being so ready to get his first Pokemon, here he was contemplating whether to take the first step of his journey. Finding his resolve, Cyan took his first step and entered the lab. There was nothing standing between him and destiny now. |

Word Count Professor Cypress sat in her office, bored out of her mind and shifting through the pages of a novella she was reading. It was a slow morning, she didn't really enjoy being dragged out of bed but one of the locals was eager to start on his journey. Cyan was a good boy, having helped her around the lab numerous times since he moved to Valor Flats the year before. She enjoyed his company, even if he could be overly enthusiastic when it came to many things. At least he wasn't obnoxious. Her vacation was supposed to start today, actually. One of her many vacations. All work and no play made Jill a dull girl, and this Jill certainly didn't want to be called dull. The plot of the novel was surprisingly good, really, but she just wasn't in the mood to indulge it. She wasn't an early morning person. Once her business with Cyan was done, it was down to the beaches for her. Sun tan, lounging, and a whole sea of Pokemon that might show up and do something interesting. A buzz disturbed her thoughts, making her jump despite herself. "Professor. Cyan's here." An aide said over the intercom. Pressing a button with a manicured nail, she replied, "Send him in before he talks someone else's ear off." There was a playful edge to her voice. She usually tried to maintain a professional demeanor around the aspiring trainers that came here but for Cyan, she could make an exception. No need to stand on formalities with someone that incited a snow-ball fight between all three cliques of her starter Pokemon last winter. Walking through the door of her office, Cyan's cute, young face lit up when he saw her and he waved. "Hello, Professor. Sorry 'bout keeping you from your vacation." The apology quickly earned him back however many brownie points he lost by keeping her from her vacation. "And you should be!" She said in mock anger. Cyan, of course, took her completely seriously and recoiled against the door. "Keeping a young lady from doing anything productive waiting on your hasty butt. The nerve." Cyan bowed and begged her forgiveness. For a moment or two, there was a tension in the air that could have been sliced with a knife. "Pffft, I got you there, Mister Reyes." She laughed, a high, almost carefree, but measured and intelligent laugh. Cyan couldn't help but join in as well, laughing (nervously at first) before taking a seat. "You got me there, Professor. I'm glad missing your train or boat or however you get down to the coast hasn't dampened your spirits." "I owe you one. It's a shame your graduation was scheduled the day it was but that's how the cards fall. Today is a big day for you, Cyan." The young trainer nodded, understanding the implications of what she meant but saying nothing. "Today is the day you take your first steps on the path that you insist will lead you to greatness." Despite how casual the two had been with one another moments before, she was suddenly very serious. Very official. Professor Cypress stood up, pacing around the room. Cyan's blue eyes followed her. "King Reyes, today you are officially a Pokemon trainer. Usually, there's a lot of paperwork that you have to do, but I've seen your handwriting enough times to know that it's no use trusting you to do that." Pulling the basic supplies that every trainer was given, she placed six pokeballs, a single potion, a blue x-transceiver, a town map app for it, and a diary. "These are the basic supplies given to every trainer, as you know. From here on out, you'll have to buy and find things for yourself. Considering your knack for finding things, it shouldn't prove too great a challenge." "Nope. I'll find more stuff in no time flat!" He said with enthusiasm as he picked the supplies up. Most of them he placed in his backpack, giddy as a schoolgirl to have this stuff. The transceiver he placed on his wrist, watching as the LED lights flashed on and showed him the time. It was an interesting device, Cypress had to admit, even now. The pokeballs were placed on the straps in his belt. "Alright. Let's go look at the Pokemon and maybe I won't disrupt your Kyogre hunting too much." That made Gwen smile. Kyogre was a legendary that Cyan was even more enthusiastic about than her given its watery nature. "I hope for all of our sakes that Kyogre stays away from the beach. Bad weather and rainy skies aren't why I go." She dismissed the conversation. They'd talked about Kyogre enough over the year. Floating on a leaf in the middle of a pond was a Totodile. In this part of the world, he ruled the roost. There were bigger things out there, creatures that were far scarier, but here in the water section of the Pokemon lab, he ruled the roost. Whistling and lazily flapping its legs to make the leaf drift across the water, his thoughts drifted to the professor and her, ahm, assets. A deep red blush spread across his face and he murmured "To-to-tototo..." Roughly translating to something about how he wanted to nuzzle her. The sound of footsteps made him stand upright. "Toto?" He asked, jumping up and hastily swimming to the shore. There the professor was, followed by some kid in an awesome jacket. The rest of the Pokemon by the pond rushed out to meet him, cool looking Mudkips and cute Piplups vying for his affection. "Piplup might be a good choice. I mean, it ends up part steel type and steel type is pretty cool when paired with water." Oh heck no. This Totodile wasn't going to get one-upped by a Piplup. It was the girly water Pokemon and Totodile pointed that out to them often. The Piplups always tried to fight him but he squashed them flat. Rushing into the middle of the crowd while screaming up a storm, he jumped up into the trainer with such enthusiasm that he knocked the poor boy over. The professor gasped but the boy took it as a challenge, turning over as Totodile tried to wrestle out of his grip. "You don't just get to walk away after doing that, pipsqueak." Who was this kid calling pipsqueak? Turning around, Totodile nipped him on the hand so hard he flinched, freeing him from his grip and allowing him to skip away laughing. To his surprise, instead of complaining or giving up, the trainer crawled forward and grabbed him by the tail. Totodile did not like being grabbed there, shivers tracing up his spine. He was pulled back and found himself within a tight grip getting a noogie. It was a strange sensation and Totodile protested profusely. "Say uncle! Say uncle!" The black haired human said. The sensation the trainer was causing him to feel with the repeated rubbing of a fist against his head was so weird that he finally screamed out his own name. The human understood the meaning, letting him down and rolling over. For a minute, the two of them were silent. Dead silent. The other Pokemon looked at the pair thinking that something bad was about to happen. Just as suddenly as the ominous feeling spread into the air, it dissolved away as both of them split their voices in laughter while looking up at the warm sun. Sitting up, the trainer looked down at Totodile. "I'm Cyan." "Totodile!" "I'm gonna be champion. I'll be really famous and you can come along with me if you want. You in?" Thinking of all the girls that would fawn over him if he evolved into a big, tough Feraligator and won the Pokemon league, Totodile quickly cooed, nodding and going "Totototototo!" "Good enough for me. And I promise you we'll get there. I need a name for you. How 'bout...Kizashi? You remind me of him. It's a pirate from one of the old stories." Kizashi crawled up onto Cyan's shoulders as he stood up and blushed, his serpentine eyes falling upon the professor's chest. Something told Cyan that she wouldn't exactly miss this overenthusiastic Totodile. The other Pokemon returned to the water now that the show was over, many of them sad that they weren't picked by the trainer. "Ha. That Totodile's been nothing but trouble since he hatched. You two make a good pair. Cyan and Kizashi...I expect to hear great things from you both!" And right as she finished talking, the peace of the day was broken as the scream of an aide reached their ears. |

Word Count Encounter Request Cyan rushed to the sound of the screaming, Professor Cypress and Kizashi hot on his tail. "What in the world was that?" He asked, the professor not saying anything in response and Kizashi only saying his own name. They eventually found themselves in the sunny, overgrown grass area. A young man, no more than a few years older than Cyan, was sitting on the ground with a wound oozing purple puss. He groaned, stammering and not able to say anything other than "Zodiac...Zo..di...ac..." He groaned, obviously in pain. So this was Zodiac's handiwork. The nerve of them, to waltz into the region's Pokemon lab and run off with a starter. It made Cyan sick to his stomach. "Crap..." Was all Cyan could say, kneeling down by the ailing man along with the professor. "Trevor. Trevor, are you okay?" Professor Cypress asked, the answer apparent because of the wound. He had been poisoned by something. That meant that whoever did this had an especially dangerous Pokemon. "Professor. She, she stole...chikorita. I couldn't stop her..." He struggled to speak. Cyan stood up without a word. "She want...north." He stammered. North was the town's marketplace and Pokemart. Why would she head there? Regardless, Cyan whistled and Kizashi came running. Both of them had the same thing on their mind. "Professor. Get him help. I'll handle the thief." There was no boasting tone. Cyan said it like he was going to get it done, plain and simple. "Cyan, don't do that. Whoever this woman is, she's dangerous. Team Zodiac is dangerous. The Pokemon Rangers will handle her. Your Pokemon isn't even in a pokeball yet." Looking down at Kizashi, the Pokemon looked back up at him without making a sound. Both of them knew what the right thing to do was. As the professor protested more, they ran off heading north. Cyan had never considered himself much of a tracker but this woman left obvious signs of where she was going, leading onto the road to the marketplace. Knowing that it wouldn't be best to tire Kizashi out, he allowed the Totodile to climb up onto his shoulders and rest there as he ran. People tried to stop him, obviously wanting to have some kind of conversation about his starter Pokemon. There was no time though and many of them looked offended as he passed. The marketplace wasn't very crowded. There were just a few people trying to set their kiosks up for the early morning rush. The thief stuck out like a sore thumb. Conceited, carrying a whip, and out of breath like she'd been running, she tried to blend into the crowd outside a clothing shop. "Stop!" Cyan called out in unison with Kizashi's namecalling. Startled, the lady turned around and took in the sight of him, smirking. "What can I do for you, handsome?" She asked, tossing him a doe-eyed smile and flashing perfect teeth. "You can give back the Pokemon you stole. You can go to jail for hurting one of Professor Cypress's lab assistants!" Cyan was obviously angry about this. "How could you do that? If you'd asked the professor nicely, then she would've given you a Pokemon, I'm sure of it!" "I'm quite sure I don't know what you're talking about." She said, smiling and acting utterly oblivious to the accusations he was making. "And I'm quite sure you're full of it." Cyan replied quickly, closing the distance between them. "I promise you I'm just a high-oh~!" She was cut off mid-sentence, blushing and embarrassed, by Kizashi. The Totodile had jumped off of Cyan's shoulder and made a dive right for her chest. Finding it lacking, he tried to nuzzle between the little mounds while blushing and stuttering up a swarm. By pure chance, the pokeball she'd been hiding in her hand slipped out, its button touching the ground and releasing a Chikorita. "C-Chika..." The poor creature said, afraid of the lady with the whip. "Tch...the game's up, I guess. How 'bout this? If you let me go, I'll go on one date with you! This is a once in a lifetime offer, kid! Don't pass it up!" "Toto. Totodile. Tototo. Dile!" Kizashi said as he jumped down from her bosom, trying to console the Chikorita while saying words to Cyan as well. "My friend says that your bra is stuffed and you're fulla crap. Give me back Chikorita." Her words both infuriated and (somehow) amused her. Drawing another pokeball from her purse, she released a blue Nidoran in front of Kizashi. Everyone gasped and a rogue gust of wind blew through the area. "You can't win, kid. Even if you beat my Nidoran, I'll make that Chikorita fight you. It's so scared of me that it won't resist. And even if you do beat me, the rest of Team Zodiac will come running to avenge their most beautiful admin, I can assure you." Despite its anger, Cyan could see the fear in the Nidoran's eyes. There were light marks on its body. He felt his heart break a little as he clenched his fists. "My name...is King Reyes..." His voice was low, eyes shadowed by the sun. The corner of his mouth twitched. "Huh? What'd you say?" She wasn't patronizing him, he'd spoken so low that no one in the crowd could hear him. "My name is King Reyes! Cyan to my friends, but you're not my friend. You hurt Professor Cypress's aid, you stole that Chikorita, and you're gonna beat it into submission the same way you did that poor Nidoran." Pointing towards her with his fingerless glove at the woman, he declared, "I swear on my future title of Champion, I'm gonna take you down." He locked eyes with her. Neither one of them had any choice anymore. "Fine. Nidoran, scratch that Totodile up good for me!" The Nidoran rushed eagerly to carry out its mistress's orders, taking a scratch at Kizashi who instinctively backtracked. Heaving, the tiny water Pokemon looked to Cyan for orders. "Go on Kizashi! Show that Nidoran how scratching is done!" Kizashi rushed forward, slicing the Nidoran with his claws. The scratches were light but they brought purple liquid to the surface. Luckily for Kizashi, they landed harmlessly off of his claws but Cyan wondered how many times he would be so lucky. The two Pokemon paced around one another, both of their trainers curious about how they would react with no directions given. Staring at the Nidoran, Kizashi leered at it, making its body lock up and its defenses lower momentarily. "While it's all locked up! Use scratch again! Be careful, don't get poisoned Kizashi!" The Totodile's attacks weren't as cautious as Cyan had instructed him to be. The poison just barely missed him and the Nidoran took it as the perfect opportunity for a counter-attack. The Pokemon struck Kizashi across his stomach, making the little crocodile cry out in pain and jump back. He stood right at Cyan's feet, panting from excitement moreso than fear. This was his first real battle and oh boy was it fun so far. None of the other water starters had even managed to hit him. "Toto!" Kizashi exclaimed as Nidoran let out a cute growl. A shiver went down his spine and he found himself momentarily distracted, despite his earlier words, by the Zodiac admin's bosom. It left him open for another scratch and he bounced against Cyan's leg. Kizashi wasn't ready to give up yet. He started walking towards the Nidoran, slowly and meticulously. Never for a moment did he break eye contact, even when the small rodent tried to look away. "Totodile..." He said in a low, gravely voice. The Nidoran was obviously afraid despite its aggression, backing into its trainer's legs. "Charge him and attack him already, you little coward!" Cracking the whip, it flew at down and it the little Nidoran. Cyan was angry. Both him and the Totodile marched forward but a hand from the crowd pulled him back. Looking to see who it was, no one stood out. By this point, half the town had shown up to watch. "Make it quick, Kizashi. That poor Nidoran's suffered enough. Knock it out." He felt cruel himself for what he said, but the sooner it was down for the count, the sooner the abuse stopped. The scratch did indeed knock the Nidoran out, no doubt weakened by the leers Kizashi had thrown its way. Forced to return it to its pokeball, the Admin smirked. "Look down at your little Totodile's hands." Cyan did that, and his heart dropped in his chest. Purple poison covered its claws, soon spreading through his entire body. "Chikorita, body slam." Word Count The Chikorita was visibly shaken by the body slam it delivered to Kizashi, sending him flying back. Cyan caught the poor Pokemon in his arms. Looking up at his trainer, it stammered out words, breathing heavily. "Kizashi..." A look passed there between trainer and Pokemon. Neither of them wanted to give up. Neither of them wanted to let that Chikorita get stolen by someone like that. "Hmph. Maybe if your Totodile was cuter, it would've been worth stealing. It's gonna lose to Chikorita~!" She giggled again. It was an infuriating sound. Kizashi let himself down from Cyan's arms and stood up, wobbling but holding his ground. The tiny blue crocodile was gritting its teeth, tightening its fist and gazing at the Chikorita. Neither Cyan nor Kizashi wanted to hurt the Pokemon but they were left with little choice. "Scratch her up, Kizashi. You can do this!" Spurred on by Cyan's words of encouragement, the Totodile rushed in before another blow could be dealt, striking the Chikorita and backing away. The only thing that was saving him was his stellar defense at this point. Grimacing, Kizashi paced around the Chikorita, not wanting to collapse even as the poison weakened him piece by piece. "Totodile!" He screamed, talking to the Chikorita. The words of the crocodile seemed to shake her up, even as the Admin ordered her to attack. "Go on! Get him! One more body slam ought to do it! Come on cutie pie." This Chikorita seemed obedient above all things though, and it rushed Kizashi. "You can't just stand there! Meet her head on! I know I'd do that!" Holding its arms back to build up momentum, Kizashi met her and scratched her with enough force to send her flying back. Panting, the Pokemon wobbled, ready to fall over at a moment's notice. "I believe in you, Kizashi! You can do this! I picked you for a reason! You're a champion! A real champion!" Kizashi looked back at Cyan, allowing his trainer to see the weakness in his eyes. It wouldn't be much longer now and he would fall. This had to end quickly... Kizashi hadn't expected his first battle outside the lab to go like this. Everyone in the town had shown up to watch and he was wobbling. The poison was spreading quick but Cyan's words were there, almost acting like an antidote. For all of the kindness his new trainer was showing him, the woman had shown equal cruelty to her own charges, even if it was half-hearted. "Toto!" He roared as Cyan commanded him to give another scratch to the Chikorita. Chikorita didn't even try to dodge. She was putting on a brave face but it was clear that she didn't want to follow the trainer that she was being used by, especially after she saw the crop used on the Nidoran. Still, she fought back, almost as if she wanted to see if Kizashi could genuinely beat her. The poison was taking him down. She commanded Chikorita to do another body slam. This was it. There was no way he'd manage to stay conscious when this attack connected. Resigning himself to a loss, Kizashi closed his eyes as the Chikorita charged forward. The sound that usually got made when someone slammed into something was made, but Kizashi felt no worse, for what that was worth at this point. Opening his eyes slowly, they quickly opened wide in shock as he saw Cyan on his knees in front of him. "Look at that Chikorita. It's only fighting because it's scared of you. It...it doesn't wanna hurt Kizashi. Fear isn't how you make your Pokemon obey you. If you can't even understand that, you don't deserve a Pokemon!" Cyan was clearly hurt now, the little Chikorita packing a mighty punch. Kizashi gathered what strength he had and slowly dragged himself past his trainer, giving him a tiny fist-bump as he made his way by. The Chikorita looked at him bravely, rushing to meet him. Raising his claws, the little Totodile roared as he once again scratched her. Fueled by Cyan's words, the attack was critically effective, knocking the already weathered Chikorita out. Somehow, Cyan had inspired him to win. The weird, kinda-flat human gasped in shock. "I'm- I'm gonna, Team Zodiac will hear about this! You will get your come-uppance for this!" "Gonna be hard to do that from the inside of a jail cell, Raulaun." A deep voice called from the crowd. Like a wave, the crowd parted for a man in the garb of a Pokemon Ranger. By his side was a Charizard taller than he was. Raulaun's pretty face twitched, contorting into something angry as she realized she was caught. "Ba...bah..." She was afraid. She was too pretty for jail! "Blaze. Get this trainer and this Totodile to a Pokemon Center. I'll deal with her." The Charizard nodded wordlessly, scooping Kizashi up in one arm and letting Cyan, who was still reeling from the body slam, onto his back. The Pokemon Center wasn't far and the wait killed Cyan as Kizashi was rushed to intensive care. The hours washed away and he anxiously awaited some news. Eventually, Professor Cypress and the Ranger entered the center and quickly found where he was sitting. "King Reyes, you reckless, ignorant, buffoonish..." Her voice trailed from anger to admiration, "...brilliant, cool, awesome kid. You're all anyone in town's been talking about for hours!" She gave him an affectionate pat on the shoulder. "If I was a few years younger, you'd have me swooning after what you did!" Despite his usual confidence, Cyan blushed a little when she said that. "How's the Chikorita and your aid?" He finally asked. It was the ranger that answered. "The Chikorita is fine. She's recuperating at the lab. Trevor is stable. The poison wasn't serious. That was a very brave thing you did, Cyan." Being told that by a Ranger made him smirk. "You took down a Zodiac Admin. Heh. If you ever wanted, I think you'd make one amazing ranger. But you wanna be the Champion, don't ya?" Cyan nodded. "It's been my dream since I was a kid." "Well don't stop dreaming. I know I'll be watching when you challenge the current Champ. Raulaun is being transported to Ranger HQ as we speak. Maybe we'll get something useful out of her. Here..." He reached into a bag and started rifling through his things, finally pulling out a disc in a case. "For going above and beyond the call of duty, I, Crimson of the Rangers, award you with this TM. It contains X-scissor. I think your little Totodile will find it very useful." The professor and Crimson kept him company until Kizashi was wheeled out, half looking like a mummy from all the bandages he was wearing. "You fought like crazy." Cyan commented. He sounded proud. Very proud. Kizashi looked up at him and smiled, weakly reaching his fist up for another bump. Without hesitation, Cyan fist bumped the cute little guy. "We're gonna be partners now, you hear? No one can stop us while we're together." Kizashi nodded and Cyan pulled out a pokeball. Pressing it to Kizashi, he went inside and it instantly clicked with no resistance. "You'd better get home to your family, Cyan. I bet they want to congratulate you on your victory as well!" Cyan nodded. He wanted to see his family before he left anyway. Given how late it was, he'd probably end up staying the night with them anyway. "I saw what you wanted to do, by the way." Crimson said after the professor left. "How you wanted to step in when she struck that Nidoran. You have faith in your Pokemon. Trust him to fight your battles for you. You're in this together. You fight injustice together, kid." Pulling out a Pokeball, he released the Charizard. The fire dragon gave Cyan a nod of respect before letting Crimson climb on. "I'll see you again some day. I'm sure of it. Who knows, maybe you'll be strong enough for a match!" Without another word, Charizard took off while Cyan waved. Releasing Kizashi from his pokeball, the two started walking towards home while whistling and playing all the while, almost like they hadn't just saved the day or anything. |

Word Count Returning to his home quietly after the hectic battle, Cyan breathed easy. Today was a good day. He won his first battle, took down his first bad guy, and he was thoroughly convinced he had proven to his dad that he was capable of defending himself from anyone. "You're gonna love my folks, Kizashi. My dad's a fisherman. He catches really tasty fish down in this pond by our house and grills 'em to absolute perfection. It's great!" He enjoyed talking up a storm about his folks to Kizashi. He told him about the sisters, about how they were each doing their own thing with their own jobs. He even brought up how two of them had a Pokemon of their own. Of course, he had to reassure Kizashi that he could totally beat up Alice's Seel and Ursula's Persian. The two raced part of the way, Cyan discovering that Kizashi was kind of slow. He didn't mind. The little crocodile guy was still awesome. "Heh. You know, I really do think I made the right choice. There isn't a single other Pokemon in the professor's lab that could pull that off." Kizashi's face lit up like a Christmas tree at that compliment. They soon arrived home and Cyan opened the door to a chorus of cheers. All of the women in his family were cheering enthusiastically. They were whoop whooping and patting Cyan all over. "Wow. To think, our little brother's a Pokemon trainer with a cute lil Totodile." Erica exclaimed, picking Kizashi up and nuzzling him. Considering that he was pushed between two very real mounds, he gasped and lost himself in the moment happily. All of Cyan's sisters took turns fawning over him and his partner, his parents both absent from the celebration. His sisters cooked him up a feast of his favorite meals. Shrimp on top of steak, french fries, baked potatoes. Both Cyan and Kizashi leaned back from that meal later and gave mighty burps. Feeling like he'd gained quite a few pounds, he groaned and contemplated where he'd head first in the morning. Kizashi ended up resting in the lap of Eliza, who stroked along his fins and made him visibly shiver in front of everyone. "You picked an awesome Pokemon, Cyan!" She said. Like the rest of them, she was either totally oblivious to how perverted he was or she was willing to look past it since they whooped the rear end of a dangerous criminal. "No kiddin' huh? I still can't believe Cyan acted so cool. I betcha didn't see me in the crowd!" Ophelia, another of his sisters, said. The night wore on and slowly, everyone retired to the bedrooms save Cyan. Even Kizashi had crept off to see how Cyan's bed felt before the big journey began tomorrow. Sitting on the couch and listening to the crickets outside on that warm summer's eve, Cyan stood up and walked outside. Taking on old, beaten path, he soon found his way to the pond. "Hello King." His father said in his deep voice, like a rumbling wave about to rise. Knowing without it being said that his dad wanted him to sit with him, Cyan turned over a bucket and watched his dad fish. "You're still set on this journey, right?" He asked, despite both of them knowing the answer. "I have to, Dad. I want to see the world, not just sit in one spot for the rest of my life." His father sighed as he reeled in his line, grabbing the hook and applying fresh bait. He chucked it back out and listened for the plop as it hit the water far out in the distance. "You may not believe this, but you were tiny when you were just born." His father sounded particularly solemn. "You were our only son. Your mother and I were so scared then. We'd listen to your ragged little breaths, afraid your lungs would just give out one day. But they didn't. They never did. They grew strong, just like you did. It figures a baby who could barely breathe would grow up to be as restless as you." Cyan didn't say anything. His father rarely said more than two words. This was a rare opportunity. "King, you're special. There's hundreds of opportunities for you here or down south at the harbor. You could be anything you wanted. Heck, if you went to the university, you could join the Rangers and make a career out of what you did today." Cyan almost gasped when his father lifted his shirt up. There was a long gash running down from his arm pit into his pants. It was long, jagged, the kind of wound that most people cringed when they were shown it. "I caught that red Gyrados so you kids would never have to worry about anything until it was time for you to go out into the world. King...I wanted you to enjoy your childhood. The world's a hard place, and you ran through your childhood not letting anyone get close to you by being so eager to run off beyond the next hill. I've never seen a stone roll so much while staying in exactly the same spot." For a time, the two sat there in silence. Neither said a word. Cyan thought about the words his dad said and they made him sad. It wasn't at all what he was expecting. "I love you. And I give you my blessing. Go show the world what we already know. You've been a fighter since the day you were born." Cyan stood up, trying not to cry given what his father just said to him. "I - I love you too, Dad." He ran off to the house without another word. When he got there, he slipped in and fell into his bed, hugging Kizashi close. There in the thought, Cyan's mind wandered once again to where he would go. He'd never really given it any thought other than a general cardinal direction. There was never a sense of wow, I have to go THERE or a drive to any particular location. Breathing easy, he looked down at Kizashi and began stroking his tail like his sister was doing. The little crocodile started twitching in his sleep, grinning like he was having a very good dream. Cyan was good. He wondered what kind of trouble they'd get into once the new day dawned and it was time for them to go. And more peculiar than anything was the sudden realization that he didn't want to go as badly as he first thought. His parents might need him, or he'd miss them, or something. That in itself made him pause and think. The people he'd met today, from the thief to the ranger to his own father, they all made him think. There were good people in the world, and there were definitely bad ones. Cyan found himself filled with an urge to meet them all. He had a Pokedex to fill. He had friends to make and a world to conquer. Resolving himself to that, he fell into an easy sleep thinking about all sorts of interesting things, like how different moves would affect different Pokemon. Heh. He wouldn't even need to go to that silly Pokemon University. At least not to know how to battle well. Although...it might be fun to read up on the lore of the legendary Pokemon. It was always fun to listen to Professor Cypress talk about them. The next morning, after a plentiful meal, he was supplied with all sorts of interesting goodies, drinks, and food before telling everyone goodbye in turn. When at last he came to his father, Cyan just gave him a respectful nod and his father nodded back. He was happy that, to some degree, they seemed to see eye to eye now. Kizashi was yammering away at his heel as he stepped out of his front door and looked down the path, trying to decide which way to go. "Huh. Think I'll head for the forest. What d'you think, Kizashi?" "Tototo. Totodile!" Kizashi jumped up and down enthusiastically, saying his own name and wagging his thick tail. Whistling, he trotted at an even pace besides his trainer. Despite the events of the previous day, and the fact that they'd only known each other for a brief period of time, Kizashi felt like him and Cyan had been friends for forever. Cyan smirked. "I couldn't have said it better myself." Pulling out a small ball, he started playing with Kizashi again as they walked down the proper path into the woods. Edited by Cyan, Jul 6 2014, 12:51 AM.

Meanwhile at Osla Village Prison... Raulaun sat on her uncomfortable bed of her cramped cell. Being there for only four minutes after arrival, the guard came up and unlocked her cell. "Back so soon?" she smirked. "Someone paid your 3,000,000 KIP bail." the guard said in a gritty, deep voice. Raulaun smirked and was lead to the main desk. That is where she saw her colleague, Jolt Lagos. As soon as she came out from behind the prison door he gave her a dirty look. "What took you so long?" she frowned back. They both exited the prison and he grimaced. "Well. I knew you would fail your simple mission. But next time...I'll take care of the boy myself." Eval Bot Rates: 4.5/5
