Yashin scored two goals though, so that's a great sign. It seems like he's dominating like he did in Ottawa. |

bummer to lose of course....but we were undefeated in pre-season in 2 years ago....and where'd it get us. It's gonna be at least a couple weeks into the regular season for every team to get into the new groove. Also, the haven't played in a year...and haven't had a whole lot of practice time together thus far. oh...and I know nobody is freaking out or anything...I was just rationalizing to myself. **It ain't gonna be an easy ride...the EAST is tough tough tough this year !!! |

its preseason! but my opinion should be blake on the first line. he can compensate for the other two b/c he's by far the fastest on the team! http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islan...slanders-bigpix PHILADELPHIA -- For a first impression, the new Islanders looked a lot like the previous Islanders, the team that could look so good and then so bad all in the same night. "There were spurts," coach Steve Stirling said about his team's 5-3 loss to the Flyers last night in a preseason game at the Wachovia Center. "But spurts don't win. Spurts tease you." In the first of two dress rehearsals of the final roster before next Wednesday's opener in Buffalo, the Islanders' speed and tenacity overwhelmed the Flyers and it resulted in a 1-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game on a goal by Jason Blake. Alexei Yashin made it 2-0 at 3:45 with a rocket from the left circle on a five-on-three power play. The Islanders had an 11-0 advantage in shots midway through the period, as they drew four penalties against the Flyers in the first 6:44 of the game. "Our goal is to play for 60 minutes like we played the first 10 minutes," Yashin said. But they didn't. Picking up an alarming trend from the last season, the Islanders, in the words of their coach, "let up when we should have poured it on." This against a Flyers team that was without Peter Forsberg, Keith Primeau and Derian Hatcher and started rookie goalie Antero Niittymaki instead of veteran Robert Esche. Momentum changed when Sean Bergenheim and Shawn Bates took consecutive penalties to put the Flyers on the power play and Mike Richards scored at 12:04 to make it 2-1. Patrick Sharp scored on a fortunate bounce that went in off goalie Rick DiPietro's stick to tie it at 2 at 18:19 of the first. The Flyers took control after the Islanders tied it at 3 on Yashin's second goal, and coach Ken Hitchcock proved the smaller neutral zone still won't stop a well-played trap. Kim Johnsson, Donald Brashear and Sharp completed the Flyers' scoring. Notes and quotes: Blake moved back into the top line with Yashin and Miroslav Satan and rookie Robert Nilsson was moved to a third line with Mike York and Trent Hunter ... The Islander power play was 1-for-13. FLYERS 5 ISLANDERS 3 |
