All right folks - let hope we get to 3-2 with this... Philly is always a tough test, and with #21, should be tougher. But if we show the same effort as last night- we should be there at the end...

C'mon boys - get pumped up for this...

Facing Gorsberg & Friends
Quote:

FACING FORSBERG & FRIENDS
Coming off a 5-3 win in Washington, the Islanders (2-2-0) continue their road trip as they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.  Garth Snow will start his first game of the season in goal for the Islanders after replacing the injured Rick DiPietro (concussion) and getting the win in Washington. Snow was likely going to start the game anyway, and now he's a lock. “Instead of it being penciled in, it's in pen now,” Steve Stirling told Newsday.

The Islanders face a new-look Flyers team (like just about every team in the NHL post-lockout) with superstar forward Peter Forsberg and rugged new defensemen Derian Hatcher and Mike Rathje. Heading into their home game tonight against the Penguins, the Flyers are 1-2-0 and have been led in goals by Simon Gagne (4) and assists by Forsberg (5). With Antero Niittymaki getting the start tonight in goal for the Flyers, expect Robert Esche to start on Saturday against the Islanders.

The Islanders will wrap up the road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Madison Square Garden to play the Rangers in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Islanders will host the Rangers on Thursday before going back on the road when they travel to Montreal for a game on Saturday against the Canadiens at the Molson Centre.  Following the game against Montreal, the Islanders will play four of their next five games at the Nassau Coliseum.

ALL-TIME RECORD vs. PHILADELPHIA
The Islanders have a lifetime regular-season record of 79-88-26-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers.  At home, the Islanders have a lifetime record of 50-33-15-0, while in 87 regular season visits to Philadelphia, they have posted a record of 21-55-11-0 (13-47-1-0 record at the Spectrum and 8-10-4 at the Wachovia Center).  In 2003-04, the Islanders were 2-3-1-0 against the Flyers.

LAST GAME
October 13, 2005
New York Islanders 5, Washington Capitals 3
Jason Blake and Petteri Nokelainen both had a goal and an assist and Oleg Kvasha added three assists to lead the New York Islanders to a 5-3 victory over the Washington Capitals at the MCI Center.  Alexei Yashin, Trent Hunter and Mark Parrish also scored for New York, which scored on its first two shots of the game. Matt Bradley scored twice and Steve Eminger added a goal for the Capitals.  The Islanders, who never trailed in the game, scored on their first two shots of the game and three of their first five to take a 3-0 lead early in the first period.  Yashin scored his second goal of the season when he re-directed a feed from Brad Lukowich past Brent Johnson 2:10 into the game. The Islanders increased the lead to 2-0 when Hunter scored his first goal of the season 1:13 later, sweeping the puck from the left corner and bouncing it in off Johnson's right leg.  Later in the period, Blake made it 3-0 with a short-handed goal at 8:24.  Less than a minute later, Bradley scored his first foal of the season as he circled the net, pulled up near the left circle and snap a wrist shot past DiPietro at 9:42 to make it 3-1.  In the second period, Washington closed within a goal as Steve Eminger scored his second goal of the season at 7:52 to make it 3-2. The Islanders took a commanding 5-2 lead with two quick goals to start the third period.  Nokelainen recorded his first NHL goal 1:03 into the third and Parrish made it 5-2 1:13 later.  Late in the game, Bradley scored his second goal of the game with 37 seconds left to cut the lead to 5-3.  Islanders' goalie Rick DiPietro left the game 11:09 into the second period after being shaken up while making a headlong dive to stop a drive down the slot by Jeff Halpern. Garth Snow replaced him and made 13 saves in his first action of the season.

It was his first win since February 18, 2004 vs. Pittsburgh, ending a four-game winless streak (0-2-1). uh, no.. just because this team wins against a bad team, doesn't mean that Sterlig gets praise of any kind. That's not the mentality - win you priase, lose you curse... there is genuine and valid points to make for Sterlings shory comings.

The Win was NOT a result of Sterlings coaching..

I'm sorry, but if no one can win a face off, 90% of their passes are off target, lazy penaltys, no body trying to outskate the other team, it ain't the coaches fault. I think there just playing plain scared, like a bunch of little kids.
