I agree oleislesfan, there are other problems than just coaching with this team - but the large part of this teams failure is the guy behind the bench. Laziness, undiciplined hockey, the failure to out-skate the opponent, something we have seen so far in 3 out of 4 games, all leads to some kind of coaching deficiency. But that's just for starters looking at this team for what it is on the ice. Sorry, I know a lot of you here don't agree with me and I can't understand why so many of you are defending Sterling...or won't begin to question the coaching of this team, don't get it Tonight's loss just exposed the softness of this team and points out how the Islanders are NOT a playoff team. Changes need to be made... if not an unlikely GM change, then start with Sterling - then start trading up and get what you need, size and toughness. Make it happen.. Wang... Tony D. |

Wow , that first Philly goal was just ridiculous. Never in all my years watching hockey have I seen 2 players so wide open (on even strength no less) so close to our net. Wow. Snow wasnt particularly sharp tonite but I think we wouldve lost even if we simultaneously played with both goalies in net. The game was over after we tied it then had like 48 straight minutes of powerplay time, and as Howie and Joe went on and on about Bret Hull, we were "skating" around like special olympians preparing for a game against New Zealand. Ive never seen a more pathetic 5 on 3 pp in my life. When the other teams have a 5 on 3, I cringe and am afraid to look, when we have a 5 on 3, I yawn and watch Yashin and Zhitnik play catch. One last thing, Janne should have his mailed delivered to the penalty box. Im surprised he doesnt keep a laptop and a thermos of coffee there so at least he can get some work done during the game. Watching the first period of this game made my lingering Foo Fighter concret induced hangover worse tenfold. Luckily I switched to HBO showing Sideways, hope none of you stuck around to watch this joke. I have a bad feeling the Rags are gonna humiliate us this week. |

God damn, this is fucking bullshit. I fucking drive 4 hours each way and spend close to if not more than $100 of my money to go see the Isles play and they don't even fucking show up. Does someone want to teach these mofo's a lesson in accountability and responsibility. f*#k! |

Well we all wanted consistancy. We got it. We showed little effort for 60 minutes. Philly schooled us on how to play a hockey game from the drop of the puck to the final whistle. Kudos to them, they deserve it. They never let up, they were running on all cylinders, they never let us breathe. What can you say, we got spanked in every catagory. It happens, to all teams throughout the year, this one was just mailed in. It was everyone. If you can let up 5 goals and still play a good game it was Snow. We got outshot 46-20, what did we expect. You dont get outshot like that unless it was a total team effort for 60 minutes, and the entire team played lathargically for the full 60 minutes. Like I said we strive for consistancey. The blame here has to be burdened by the whole team as one, not one individual or a few. Yes Stirling didnt have them ready, but they looked like they didnt want to be ready. We were out muscled, out hustled, out shot, out scored, out everything. I feel sorry about guys like knsmith85 who went to the game. It was a waste of money and total frustration. I hope this acts like another wakeup call going into MSG on Weds. And a reminder, especially after a loss, keep the language to PG13 please. There are ladies and kids who read this board, so if you must curse, alot of *&#%$ please. |

Oh yeah there was one bright spot. Godard vs. Brashear. I wonder how much Brashear's eye hurts today. Man that blood was gushing. |

Tell me again how they just haven't "GELLED" yet!!!! I don't know if I can really blame them for taking so many penalties, they just played frustrated. And as Hahn said this morning, Satan was almost invisible. My only saving grace.... I got to watch the entire game in only an hour because I fast forwarded the tape all the time. It was still horribly painful. |

Webby makes a great point, the one thing the Isles have been this season is consistent. Consistently bad. I know its only been 5 games but think about it. Has there been one instance this year when this team has excited you? Maybe Campoli's early goal to tie it in the opener? The home opener win was a pretty dull matter of fact win, that DiPietro still had to make a great save in the final 30 seconds to preserve. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead on what many consider the weakest team in the NHL Washington Capitals (who like Carolina had played the night before) we had to nurse a 1 goal lead into the 3rd. They shoulda blown them out of the water. I mean as inconsistent as the Isles have been the last 2 seasons at least there were stretches where they played exciting, rushing end to end hockey. Unless you think missed passes, an endless parade to the box and an aboslutely putrid "power" play is exciting, this might be the dullest hockey team we've had since pre Peca-Yashin-Ozzie. |

I think were jumping to soon on our guys i mean im only jumping on Niini cuz hes been doing the same mother !@#$ing things wrong for 2 years Yashin had shown some improvement in the last season before going out to injury and Satan has never really had a bad season so i think we should just give it time (unless they lose to the rangers)we have only played 5 games.................... |
