You heard it here first. The New York Rangers will be first round playoff losers. The reason Jaromir Jagr has been lighting it up this year is due to a "SPECIAL" relationship that's lit up his life. I think this scandal will rock the Hockey world. Messier never left the rangers, he passed the torch and he is jagr's new flame. ![]() Seriously. team injuries and the loss of grit that a guy like Ville Nieminen provided prior to his trade will hurt. Jagr and the rest of the Broadway Blueskirts will bow out in round one. Betts and Hollweg with zero playoff exp over Nieminen? Bad decision. |

I agree...especially if they don't win the division. But even if they do, I don't think the Rag$ have the style of play to win in the playoffs. Now, haviong said that, I also probably uttered those exact (or very similar) words about the regular season in late September. But if they end up drawing Buffalo, I do think the Rag$ will get abused. Their only saving grace is Lundqvist. He can carry them if he gets really hot. |

No doubt the Blueskirts will be eliminated in the first round, in fact, I'd love to see them draw Buffalo, I'd go to the Garden to root on Buffalo!!!!! |

smitty, I was actually singing their praises in the off season on this site and another one and some folks laughed at me. But seeing what trends they've fallen into and the affects of messing with a kid like Ortmeyer by making him a healthy scratch, to trading away the new nhl's closest thing to Esa Tikkanen in favor of 2 "emerging" kids with zero playoff experience. Up until a month ago, I could have seen them going far in the playoffs. Now, it looks like Renney has lost some of his control. He whined about Rucinsky's injury the other night calling for a suspension to Jay Bouwmeester. Anyone pay attention to the replay? Bouwmeester's stick rode up Rucinsky's and caught his finger. Careless swing yes, but not a deliberate attempt to injure. Renney should get coach of the year but some of his choices lately including benching a kid like Ortmeyer make no sense. 1st round exit. |

Excellent points (as usual) Steve. In fact, I heard the many of the same concerns from Ranger fans I play hockey with. You have to give Renney credit and maybe he knows something we don't. But if the last three weeks are any indication, I agree that April will not be a very pleasant month for the Rag$. But, again, we've all seen time and time again what a hot goaltender can do for a team in the playoffs. The Rag$ seem to have that. I think the only concern re: Lundqvist is whether he's able to sustain this play. This is his first year and he also did the Olympics. I wonder how much gas he has left in the tank? |

I agree. In the playoffs, when guys charge the net more. It's more taxing on a goalie. The Rangers will need Ozolinsh to get his act together offensively for teir PP or else, teams won't be afraid to take liberties. |

they wont get out of the first round solely because 1 person cannot carry a team through the playoffs. honestly after 2 games the playoff teams will more than know how to stop him. |

Him who? Jagr? Lundqvist (how do you stop a goalie?)? Ozolinsh? And, yes, 1 person can carry a team all the way through to the Cup. Does the name Giguere (sp?) ring a bell? |

ozolinsh? LOL in my opinion and in discussion with rags fans he's been awful (if his stats are good, he's yashinesque). lundqvist is a rookie goalie, and although good will most likely be prone to make rookie mistakes under big pressure. jagr will be shadowed and teams will figure him out. the rangers just dont have a series type team. |

The last thing in the world I want to find myself doing is defending the Rag$ but didn't Lundqvist just win a gold medal? I didn't see him make any rookie mistakes in the Olympics. In fact, he was quite good and that's a pressure environment. And haven't teams been shadowing Jagr all year already? Figure him out? I can figure him out right here....the guy is insanely good. The only thing I think the Rag$ will have trouble with..and it may be BIG trouble..is what Steve alluded to earlier...that the playoffs are much more intense/physical...and it remains to be seen if the Rag$ can hack that style. I don't think they can. |

very valid point on the olympics, but olympic hockey is a different game than nhl playoff hockey. i just think playing jagr would be much easier to defend after seeing him in consecutive games rather then having games in between last jagr appearance. jagr isn't jesus reincarnated, believe it or not he's mortal . yes he's very good, but is he immortal? no. one of the rags strenghts can also be exploited as a weakness which is basically the fact that jagr is a great player. if he has an off night the rags look lost, it's that simple.

If the Rangers opponent is to use a strategy that hopes for Jagr to have "off-nights" then they deserve to lose. I'm not sure I understand your point about how Jagr's skills can be used to exploit the Rangers...unless he suddenly pulls a Steve Smith. And I think the Olympics were a great indicator of what we can expect to see in the playoffs...multiple games with very short time off between games in a high intensity setting. And I'm aware Jagr isn't Jesus Christ...but the way he's led the Rangers out of the sh!thole they were in, he could be Moses. By the way, it kills me to say this, but Jagr is more than just "very good". Still, I would have no problem with him getting hit by a cab crossing 7th avenue on the way to a gay bar after the game. |

Jaromir JaGirl needs one more goal to tie Adam Graves for all time Rangers single season goal record, he will beat it, it could be tonight vs the Sabres. Lets go B-U-F-F-A-L-O Adam Graves 52 goals-1994 Jaromir JaGirl 51 goals-present Vic Hatfield 50 goals-1972 |

Just hoping a swarm of locusts descends upon the garden and destroys it and everything within. Either that or Dolan/Sather destroy it themselves. Imagine those two bozos were saved by the salary cap. |
