John Davidson going to St.Louis

I should say back to St.Louis, because the Blues drafted him. But the word is he is all but gone to the Blues after this season as their play-by-play announcer. I was wondering why the other night Sam said "well big guy, I want to thank you for 20 great years."

What peives me off is he is going to the Blues, my second favorite team(or used to be now).

No more "Oh baby" no more manic laughter, no more "humma humma" as if Jackie Gleason himself were in the booth. Sorry, but this guy was the prototypical homer for the Rangers, he could never see past his teams colors, to the point where if the MSG feed is all I could get for an Isles/Rangers game I would turn the sound off.

I can't even say good riddance.

thats interesting, could the blues have offered him more? Does he have family out there? I would thingk relocating is a lot different for a broadcaster than a player (esp after 20 years) You are in a huge market why of all teams the blues, unless I am missing something obvious.

I think he's going there because of Dave Checketts, who bought the Blues.

"We're not in a bind at all," Burke said. "I'd say of the 29 teams, we don't talk to Edmonton, so of the 28 other teams, there's plenty of interest in making this predicament go away. I could hang up the phone and solve this."

He must've been pretty disenchanted with MSG/Cablevision to make a move after 20 years. Who knows, maybe Davidson wants to slow down and it'll be easier in the midwest? :dontknow:
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Repeat a lie frequently enough....
I've read that he is going to the Blues, but not as their announcer....but as their President or GM or something like that.
Authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge: fitter to bruise than polish.

Anger makes dull men witty, but it keeps them poor.

In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

President or GM? No wonder he is leaving, that is a golden opportunity. Plus, 20 years being one of the Stettler and Randolph look-a-likes is plenty of time doing one job.

JD for the most part wasn't even that good of a goaltender, except for his brilliant play in the 79' semi's, he did nothing but get hurt when playoff time came. He actually started off as the lockeroom interveiw guy for the Rangers and somewhere I have one of his very first appearences vs the Isles that 1986-87 season. I can tell you this, he wasn't only much thinner, but his voice back then sounded like a kids and he seemed nervous as hell from those first few inteveiws, not the jelly, jolly, big mouth he became.

I will say this to Rangers fans though(my brother being one of them) it has to hurt to see this guy go, the same way it really sucked to see Jiggsy go. I swear Jiggs was one of the best voices I have ever heard doing commentation, I could listen to that man forever. As far as I am concerned, he is up there with Mel Allen and Bob Murphy as some of the greatest sports voices ever.

I would have to agree, Jiggs is one of my favorite play by play announcers. He has a very Identifiable voice. I miss him and Westfall as a broadcast team. Wish we had them back.

ah that makes a lot more sense! Good for him, still never enjoyed his broadcasting.

Y'know, I would have agreed with you for most of the past 20 years, but in recent years, I think JD has developed into a reasonably impartial color commentator.

There is, of course, no hope for Sam Rosen.

I mean, no one expects the announcers to be complete unbiased, but I just think I've heard fewer howlers from JD recently than in years past. He was pretty candid and up-front about the Rangers sucking through these playoffs---and we all know that Rosen would have found 10,000 ways to do otherwise.

Even when Rosen and JD are not on the air, it bothers me to see Islanders games on MSG. I hate MSG on my television, in my Chinese food, and just about everywhere else.
