Great Job everyone... Sports Business Journal reports an NHL-best 34% increase in attendance this season for the Islanders Ted Nolan's team is off to a brilliant start and Islanders fans are responding. In fact, Islanders fans are having as great a start to the season as Rick DiPietro, Mike Comrie and their teammates. For statistical proof, we cite the Sports Business Journal, the leading trade publication of all things sports. The SBJ reports that the Islanders have seen a 34% jump at the gate compared to the same point last season. That 34% leads the entire National Hockey League. The Sports Business Journal records the Islanders' attendance through the first seven home games this season at 102,233 for an average of 14,605 per game at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. That's at 90% capacity of the arena so far and a 34% improvement from last season's average of 10,902. The New Jersey Devils are second at 21.1% for the first three games at their new arena, the Prudential Center in Newark. The Washington Capitals are third at 9.2%. Thank you, Islanders fans. See you Saturday for the next biggest game of the season when the NYI face Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils. |

Right On Time.

I did notice every night seeing 10 +. Will this un-balanced schedule it does add to the attendance. Every game is a big game and a lot of them are rivalary games, from our biggest against the Rags but even Devil games and Pen games are huge games. Oh yes it doesn't hurt that we are 8-4 baby and have only given one extra point in those 8 wins too! |

On the other hand, two nonsellouts against the Rangers and 11,000 last week against Tampa. They also haven't played many non Ranger weeknight games......at least so far in this weird schedule. |

Attendance is up because of the effort the Islanders have made to the community and to the guys they have running the hockey team. Garth and Teddy have certainly changed the atmosphere on the ice, it shows big time and has translated into a good confident feel among the fans. The sales team with the help of Mike Bossy and the inventive promos have enticed the fans, and once you go to a game this year you want to go to another and another. It also helps that we are 6-2 at home so that experience of leaving the Barn happy is becoming regular. Vukota, you and the rest of the organization should be very proud of the work that's been done, we all owe Charles Wang a huge debt of gratitude as he's created the right atmosphere of us being in this together where everyone is contributing to our early success including the fans. Let's not just keep it up, lets make it the norm. |

It's not just that Webb, this team came out the first two games and swept the sabres. Last year we lost what 4 out of our first 5 Dipi wasn't playing and it was utter disarray with the whole Smith thing. There are two strong avenues of approach here: the community and the team. No one will argue they put on a full push here with promos and cold calling from Bossy etc. But none of that would have mattered if Teddy and Co weren't getting it done. The casual fan wants a good game and the isles give that night in and night out. Sure they got spanked twice but I have friends who are (gulp) ranjerk fans that would prefer to go watch the isles play then shlep into the garden to watch the overpriced talents flop. I would guess the same is true for local devils fan. Talk about team effort, the isles are what Wang wanted all along, a well run COMPANY with all of the individual departments doing there job, with the end result being a good profit. |

VIVA LAS VEGAS

agreed! I watched the Devils game last night and they showed the crowd...so many empty seats. When I go to the collesium...i cant find more than 2 seats empty next to each other in a section. |
| After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots" | |
