"Worst Singing of the Summer"

Quote:

An analyst once called the New York Islanders' decision to bring in winger Ruslan Fedotenko "the worst signing of the summer." Well, the Isles aren't complaining. He is playing 21 minutes a night and averaging almost a point per game. Sources say general manager Garth Snow is quietly working on a long-term extension for Fedotenko.

Garth is going to have a long road ahead of him to sign all available players by the end of the year. By my count, we have Comrie, Hunter, Satan, Fedotenko, Vasicek and Bergenheim. To see that he's getting a head start on some negotiations is a good sign, but I thought they were not allowed to sign players until after 1/1/2008.

We can sign any player we have not gone to arbitration with prior to Jan 1. Thus, players like Tank and Berard we can sign. Trent Hunter we can even negotiate with because his salary was decided in arbitration. Thus, neither team nor player's agent may negotiate until the new year.

Likewise, the Rangers cannot sign Lundqvist until Jan 1 because he was taken to arbitration. So was Avery.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

Right On Time.
Let's remember how almost all of us like the motivation factor and the guys in contract years.

I wouldn't go and throw that away after 13 games. It is not as if he is making the minimum or he will get a huge offer in the offseason. He is getting close to 3 million for one year. We have PLENTY of time. Work your butt all year, prove to us and then sign him up for 2 more years.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

i'm all for extending Tank.. i just hope it's for something reasonable like 2 years.
"We're not in a bind at all," Burke said. "I'd say of the 29 teams, we don't talk to Edmonton, so of the 28 other teams, there's plenty of interest in making this predicament go away. I could hang up the phone and solve this."

I'm on board with this. It's certainly the antithesis of what Mad Mike would have done...although I don't think Tank would break down and cry...

smart boy Eric.

But I have to say... I never thought it would be him that would be so impressive on the ice.

Let's not also forget the price on extending these contracts gets more expensive the longer we wait and the more productive they are.

Food for thought
