Actually, it started with the word "yeah", so I guess you were wrong BTW, if people start blaming someone for something they aren't responsible for, I'm going to say so. I'm tired of the negativity. We lost ONE GAME. ONE GAME Did MAB play well? No. However, only one goal was his fault and people are treating him like a leper in a nudist colony. If someone is going to say MAB was responsible for 2 goals, I'll call them out on it because he was responsible for only one. If people don't like it, ban me. I'm amazed that people are expecting the world from someone who is essentially our 7th defensemen. That is what MAB is now. When everyone on the blueline is healthy, MAB is our 7th DMan. So why is everyone surprised that he has lapses? Is our team so strong from top to bottom that we suddenly have 7-8 defensmen who would start on most team's rosters? Actually, we do. We have 7 because both Berard and MAB have proven that they would. However, I don't get why everyone just kills the guy every time we lose. If you've got an issue with it, then I guess you have an issue with it. I'm not saying the guy is Denis Potvin. Heck, I'm not even saying he's Jean Potvin. He is what he is...a 5-7 defensemen on most teams who is a PP specialist. Just as you live with the goals, you are also going to have to live with his screwups. I think he's cut down considerably on the screwups since his benching was lifted, but last night he reverted back to bad MAB. But he isn't the reason we lost. There are MANY reasons we lost. To think otherwise would be...dare I say it...WRONG!!! |

Perhaps, but as a 5-7 defensiveman who was billed at 1-2 there is definately room for improvement, if not then movement. |

The expectation of him being a number 1 might be overstating it a bit. |

This has been an ongoing issue with Bergeron since he's been here. It's not like we're picking on one game (even though he was responsible for the GWG). Once Berard is healthy, I'm sure he'll be scratched and hopefully, sent down. |

How was a guy who wasn't starting for Edmonton expected to be our 1-2 defensemen??? He wasn't a top 2 in Edmonton and they sucked. Why would he be for us? I don't know who you were reading, perhaps Brooks, but they don't know wtf they are talking about. No one with an ounce of credibility expected MAB to be our 1-2 defensemen. |

C'mon now, I4C... would you really pick this guy if you had other options? He's not the worst player, and he's effective occasionally... OK. But if you could turn back the hands on the clock, would you choose this guy again? He's got certain assets, no doubt, but his general play is undependable. And that represents a consistent weak spot that can determine a hard-fought contest's outcome. And as far as his faboulous slap shot goes, it's so "telegraphed" in advance that it's anticipated and relatively ineffective. The thrill is gone. |

fasty, why try and talk some sense? If GM's had the same knee jerk reactions fans did on message boards, then Trent Hunter would have been traded a couple of years ago, DiPietro wouldn't be here, Campoli would be gone, etc etc Just because a player is struggling, doesn't mean they are a bust. Poti struggled in NY with the Rags and then after having his best year with them, their idiot fans never forgot so he came to us and had an EVEN BETTER year. Players can learn, can adjust. The talent is there. Unfortunately for itchy fans with no time for reasoning, the patience is not. Good to see I'm not alone. Let him sit and practice hard and get back to being an asset, which he is. I can only imagine what the posts would be like if we were 5-9 instead of 9-5. |

I'll just throw in my two cents on the issue and say..... Depot you are totally correct. MAB is still young and has talent which means you stick with him. To me, since we're playing well we have more reason to be patient with him. Patience I bet will pay off big time with this kid. |

Not to mention that Jason Blake NEVER would have had the chance to score 40 goals with the Isles. This isn't fantasy sports, you can't afford to just discard assets judged on a week-to-week basis. |

Wow! What I thought was one of my more tame posts expressing a rather measure assesment of MAB's ultimate effectiveness has brought forth such a strong and emotional reaction! Look, I don't know what you see in this guy. I watched him at practice a few weeks ago and he was not particularly impressive or inspired... even with an empty net in front of him. Frankly, he was missing it a large proportion of the time. Others (who shall remain nameless) in attendence could corroberate this. Someone, a few posts earlier. actually attributed our making the playoffs to him. My G_d... how many highly effective players, who are no longer here, were instrumental in that drive for the playoffs?! Yes, he added a new element to the team's overall roster, but is MAB the magic elixer that, single-handedly, advanced us toward the cup? Please. |
