We need all the support we can get. If this falls through, I'd hate to say it but the Islanders may become the next Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques. I always wondered what do those fans do. GOD, PLEASE DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN TO US!

Too much $$$$ potential for Nassau County not to approve, problem is going to be traffic, they need to have some sort of a solution.

If that does happen, I'm moving. The Islanders are the only thing keeping me here. Don't move my Islanders!!!

I got a traffic solution shut down Hempstead Turnpike on game days and redirect all traffic onto the Meadowbrook and only let Islander fans going to the game travel the remainder of Hempstead turnpike.

Yeah right... what was I thinking....

Why can't they just build a LIRR spur or light-rail from Hempstead station to the coliseum?

They've already got spurs to Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Shea. Why didn't they ever work NVMC into it?

The traffic concern is not necessarily for the NVMC it is for the whole project Charles wants there. It will be a 365 day a year place to go with Thousands of people living and working there. That is the issue, not just on game days.

The real problem is going to be parking.

As long as we have a team. I'd pay whatever I could to keep the team here.

They even have the tracks in place already. They run through Garden City right through the back of NCC. They would just need to make some moderations to it. Train isn't 100% necessary but it would help.

Sure it's necessary. The LIRR and the 7 bring huge crowds to Shea all the time. For many who live on the Island, it makes more sense to take the train than deal with the traffic on the GCP, and the lack of parking due to construction of CitiField.

When I lived in DC, at first I didn't think that many people who lived in the suburbs would take the Metro to Caps and Nats games. But after seeing many a game there, I would estimate that 20-30% of people who go to games take public transit.

That's pretty significant if you think how much better traffic would be if 1 out of every 4 cars was taken off Hempstead turnpike.

i am all down for public transit to Nassau, it will cost me more but it will be worth it and we can drink on the train.

Snowman,

You would be surprised how far away those tracks are from the coliseum. As much as I want a RR to NVMC, they would need to do a lot of construction. It means overhauling those tracks before they break off at Franklin Ave and continuing construction all the way down commercial ave and then some how turning those tracks towards NVMC. It is possible but knowing MTA LIRR, never going to happen.

GOOGLEMAP: NVMC is at the bottom right, tracks are near commercial ave. top left.

I cant get the map to work, but look it up on google maps.

Another positive article by Newday. I think this is the most important step that has occured with this proscess. If theya re producing positive articles that will get the mass public to interpet this project as such and allow politicians to make pressure free decision (or be pressured to vote for the decision).

"We're not in a bind at all," Burke said. "I'd say of the 29 teams, we don't talk to Edmonton, so of the 28 other teams, there's plenty of interest in making this predicament go away. I could hang up the phone and solve this."
