Ricky should handle the puck more outside of the Trapezoid...

Mark Messier 7/13/2000 after returning to the Rags after 3 seasons in Vancouver: "I'll guarantee you we'll make the playoffs. I don't think anybody will be disappointed in the next two years." Next two years: No playoffs, lots of disappointment You Rags fans only remember the guarantees that come true, dontcha? The guy is 50/50 on significant guarantees. | |

Hey if the hockey gods can shine on Mick Vukota or Mats Hallin for one game it could happen to Hilbert. |

I stayed away from this ridiculous thread. Take a look at this. I hope the kid gets his offensive game back. he has great skills but as I've reiterated dozens of times, he's conformed to Nolans style admirably of defense first and fit in well on this team. ![]() and yes, that Vukota hat trick in Washington was something special. I remember watching him jump up and down like a kid at Christmas morning as even he was surprised at his "trick". another one of those special, unforgettable Islander games.

Depot I agree.............many aren't students of the game like us. Hilbert is invaluable in my mind. And he has absolutely played the style Nolan wants him to

Steve, you've been saying this for months and months and not one of those times I've disagreed. He's a ROLE player and he's playing a ROLE, beautifully and to a TEE. |

Andy has been useful, but you are fooling yourself if you don't think he's anything more than a dime a dozen at this point. I actually think his hands will catch up with him and his offense will blossom eventually at this level, but it may not happen right away. That's why we should hold onto him, similarly to Jason Blake because the talent is in there. Nevertheless, he is nothing more than a guy that skates hard, hustles and plays good defense with absolutely nothing to contribute right now offensively. You can find tons of guys out there that if all you ask of them is to do that, then they can fill the same role. |

Every single fourth liner in the National Hockey League. Anyways, he's not a detriment, so it's not worth arguing about anymore. Especially after a big time win over the Rags!!! |

I was fine with it and laughed until a few posts in when the usual pile-on nonsense started. sorry for ruining a great, humorous, thought provoking thread worthy of humorous responses instead of actual relevant discussion. bastids, all of you.

MY FACTS (though my non "student" status may lessen the weight of this) They guy is a solid defensive player and penalty killer, but has little to no offensive ability. There are going to be streaks where the Isles come out on the short end of these low-scoring affairs, and a guy on one of the top three lines with zero points is going to be looked at. MY OPINION Hilbert is a fourth line and PK guy, nothing more. I would love NOTHING MORE than for him to prove me wrong. |

You will see Hilbert start every game this season and for the next 10 seasons. t is the nature of the beast. I think Hilbert can handle it. Suggested by I4C
