Was Berard a scratch tonight or is he hurt? I feel like I missed something here.

He was scratched in order for Bates to play!
Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres,
Stripped of will and soul. only their thirst for freedom
Gives them hunger for vengeance...

Wow... I'm in shock that Ted didnt send Bruno to bridgeport... No wonder why the guys like this coach...loyalty - But, sometimes that could be a bad thing.

And how about the renewed energy and good play of Bergeron the past few games?

C'mon some peope need to admit that he's been lookin pretty good out there lately. The guy caught major flak here early on.

^ Bruno has been SO steady. We never hear his name, which is GREAT. I can't even name you a terrible play he has made. I was real skeptical of Bruno but he has earned that 4th D-Man spot for sure.

Also must give MAB credit. His speed was important tonight. He challenged up high. I get scared when he stands in front of Rick and just points all over the place but neutral zone he was strong.

^^Ha we posted that same time. I agree with MAB. Bruno has been a real legit D- Man though. He is an EVEN which for our team is actually HUGE. Love the way he has played. SMART hockey, has led to no odd man rushes. No stupid penalties, hits the net sometimes even with his shot.

Spooooky....Nah, it's really obvious the reason we have been winning games is because of our D-game & DP. They have been making up for a lot of this no-goal action. Look at Sutton too, I think HIS play has been awesome lately. I've even been liking him on the power play (he's been bringing some stability to the puck and passing pretty well).

Maybe had something to do with Berard going off banged up on a shift in the last game.

Hey a lot of us said with 6 D-Man it is either or with MAB and Berard. MAB deserved a full game and got it.

I hope you are being sarcastic there. Bruno has been solid and is getting better as the season wears on. Face it, he's one of our top 4. Who was out there last night when we were killing a 5 on 3 against the most dangerous offense in the league? Bruno and Camps. Who is one of the 4 D-man who work the PP? Bruno and Camps are the future of the NY Islanders. Bruno will be an allstar within 2 years.

As far as sitting Berard over MAB....MAB is in our future, Berard is not, just a fill in this year. Nolan is determined to make MAB functional in all three zones so he can become part of this teams core.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Absolutely.....Webby. MAB is indeed the future. Although many people don't want to hear that.

And you're absolutely correct.....Berard is a stop gap D-man. Probably will be on the team only this year.

Is this just your hunch or is there some inside info to back this up?

I find it tough to see it your way on this one, Webbs. I think we'll likely see Berard and Bates being alternated as the situation demands.

For instance tonight we might see Berard because he's done well against the Rags and blocks up the point.... and Bates might sit this one out. We need an edge defensively to block the point and bog down the Rags so they can't scoot through too easily and play "their" game. Last night we needed speed to cover the Sens, so Bates might have been more effective, blocking up the point being of lesser importance compared to keeping up with the Sens speed.

Regarding MAB, I'm sure Nolan would like him to be a better player in all areas (and every other player as well), especially defense. But I don't see Nolan's mission to "get the best he can" out of MAB as a trade off against the presence of Berard, whom he's made it clear he values highly in both skill and spirit.

No.... I think that Nolan will keep everyone guessing all season long.... and have things just the way he wants them too!

Berard was/is a good pickup. Do not be surprised if he is back next year. He is more solid out there than MAB, who is still a work in progress. Campoli and Bruno ARE the future. Campoli was down after 2 guys hit him last night, pushing at both of them before he even got back up. You need spare d man of this caliber in today's NHL, especially when a few of them(Berard and Martinek) should be marked fragile.
Berard is here because he WANTS to be here, which is a good thing.

Nolan gave the Power Play to Berard, it completely lagged. He brought back Bergeron the other night and they scored off his rebound and got a point out of the Dallas game. Both guys are there for the power play, and Bergeron is the warm (Not hot) hand right now. That's why Bergeron was in and Berard out. As the season goes, Ted will continue to go with the (Relatively) hot hand.

Whoever can help the power play most between the two dresses. They both were essentially brought here to do the same thing-----provide some offense from the point.

Berard will still get his games, as you said possibly tonight. But dont be surprised come March when Johnson is healthy again and MAB is feeling comfortable, and Camps and Bruno are playing the PP well, Berard will fetch us a nice draft pick if we build his game up enough, yet use him sparingly enough to keep him healthy.
