Don't know how many of you have noticed by Kyle has continued to struggle thie year. I wanted to know if it was struggling or teams just paying attention to him more, here was my question and answer to an ESPN College Hockey Analysis: Kevin (NYC): Is Kyle Okposo struggling or are teams just focusing all their attention on him? Jess Myers: Okposo is definitnely struggling, although he had a nice series last weekend versus Minnesota State. He has been the foucs of some opposing team attention, although it's rare to see him shadowed in the manner that teams used to hang on every move a player like Dany Heatley made on the ice for Wisconsin. |

I check the Gophers thread on HFboards every now and then and they've really been down on him so far. They've been down on the whole team though. Sounds like he had a really good game last weekend, hopefully he turned it around. |

I get to watch the Gophers and the whole team is not playing well...or not as well as everyone thought they would this year. The team is either 6-4 or 7-4 and scored 26 goals. The pp has been awful at only 14%. So I don't think it is just Okposo at this point. I'm sure things will improve for the Gophers over the season. They are too good of a team to struggle all season and the coaching staff is one of the best in the country. |

Correct. But very few players make the jump from college straight to the NHL. |

I think its a given he's no Joey Mullen, but with the potential for a few spots open he may have a shot. I'd rather see him in the bridge getting some major minutes first before we throw him to the wolves here on LI. Its a big difference from college to the NHL. |

Absolutely Lit......that was the point I was trying to make. Its a huge difference from college to the NHL. Okposo will be here eventually undoubtedly. But next year he'll only be 21. There's no rush for him to be here. And I think with Comeau and Tamby still at the Bridge.......that's just how the organization is handling its kids. |

Well I would much rather let them develop properly than rush them into the NHL. Remember what the Rangers did with Blackburn? That kid was never the same. And the Pens with Fleury. |

While I don't want to rush anyone to the NHL, How long did Crosby, Malkin and Staal spend in the minors? If he's ready he plays if not let him learn in the AHL. |

Hey...some people got it. Some people don't. Some are late bloomers. Let them develop at their own pace. |

While this may be true, they are all young, none of them were playing college hockey. The talent is a drop off from where Crosby was playing at Oceanic and a big drop from where Malkin was. If you have an agent worth his salt, they'll tell you to leave college asap. Look at DP, he played in boston for all of one year. He gets to the bridge and there was a definate learning curve. The same will happen with okoposo. |

BTW Blackburn's issue had nothing to do with him being rushed into the NHL, he had a sever nerve injury in his catching arm that didn't allow him to use his glove anymore. |

But the Game vs the Islanders when he was crying from giving up I think 5 goals...that had nothing to do with his catching arm injury. |

Yup, and Fleury is still what 22? He just needs some time, the extra time in the NHL will just help him in the end. Look at DP, he was 22 in the NHL and he wasn't ready either. He has the skill and will put it all together. I don't think any player gets ruined from being brought into the NHL too early. It may just take them a few years to totally get comfortable and people will get restless with them. It is all about the person. |

I disagree a bit with your opinion. Some players do indeed get hurt coming into the NHL too early. Alexander Daigle for one comes to mind. He was supposed to come in and dominate and never did. Never lived up to expectations and didn't even come close to justifying his number one overall pick. And there are many many others. Okposo will get here soon enough. |
