Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up - if you have ever linked to a post on my blog - the permalinks need to be changed. After many months of thought, I ditched my old blogging engine (SimplePHPBlog) and went to Wordpress. The RSS feeds have been redirected - and should function fine. I started the process on Thanksgiving and spent countless hours getting the site to look as close as it could to the way it did. I think I am at somewhere around 30 hours (estimated) total, but mainly because I had to convert flat text to MySQL for the database. It's database driven so its faster. Bigger font Web 2.0-ish More secure E-mail notifications of comment replies E-mail notifications of posts (Coming Soon!) I will bring other features of the old site over bit by bit - but I wanted the site to be live before the game tonight. In doing so, I was able to live blog from my phone all night! To do: Get text to wrap images Go through older posts and correct any errors Post Feedburner Email Subscription Page Move photos to Flickr and install Flickr API (Photos are eating up TONS of bandwidth) If you come across anything I may have missed - please let me know! www.islesblogger.com |

If I were you I wouldn't use Flickr. You probably pay for hosting and bandwidth already. It is like 8 dollars a month for a crazy amount of hosting and bandwidth space these days. Then you post YOUR photos, will know that the copyright is yours (and not signed away to Yahoo. Also, Wordpress has several nice plugins that work well with gallery 2 (a free application for creating a photo gallery). PM me if you have any questions... I have been blogging with Wordpress for a few years now. My name is John. |

you may need to update gallery. I used it a long time ago, abandoned it for Coppermine, and then came back recently and it has improved considerably. little things like downloading plugins through the admin menu and others like automatically adding watermarks to the photos and making nice urls go a long way for me... Some more advice - get the sitemap going for the gallery, make all of the photo names relevant, and use the break out frames plugin so you will get more traffic through Google images. |

I was replying from my phone today so I couldn't post anything long. I had been using gallery on my personal blog for a while, upgraded that to G2 when it came out. Getting it going on Islesblogger was painless. I am still pretty clueless about SEO, and like I said earlier I wanted to remove a bunch of photos that aren't up to my standards to cut back on storage size. I embedded G2 in wordpress with their plugin - so it has break out frames and the other plugins installed as of right now. As far as relevant names - that's going to take a while, as I just named them by file name. What do you suggest? Thanks - Mike |

G2 = Gallery 2 gallery.menalto.com Added the link page and contact form back last night. I also corrected some image paths that were messed up upon import. Still have a bunch of work to do. |

I wouldn't mind being the geek if anyone out there wanted to start an Islanders blog. You can see some examples of my work through the links below. Wordpress is a user friendly software that anyone can easily use. Let me know. I hope to see as much Isles info out there as possible (especially since I am still in Taiwan...). |

To Mike, I suggest using a program like fast photo renamer. You will need to pay for it ($20), but I have scoured for other free programs and they are difficult to use and may not have the right features. You can see the photos and rename them individually, or select many and rename them all (and it will give them a 001, 002 etc.. at the end to differentiate them). Fast photo renamer has a free trial, so I suggest you download it and see what you think. I've done a lot of SEO work, and if you'd like to talk about it private message me. I think this topic is in the wrong area of the board. Cheers, John |
