I want to know whom the unknown ranger player was. I don't believe this was a rumor. Avery said the comment...in the heat of the moment. Now everyone it seems is backpedaling. Where is the media uproar here? ah, whatever i don't care. atleast the bum was fined.

i heard it was Shanahan.

It wasn't exactly heat of the moment - it was the pre-game warmups. And as for the media uproar, if it has to do the Canada's beloved Leafs, its a big deal.

I'd be SHOCKED if the Ranger was Shanhan.

IF he did say it, that's just plain classless (gotta agree with Tucker on that one).

I don't know if this has been posted here yet

Avery prepares to file libel suit

Quote:

Sean Avery is preparing to file a libel charge against a Toronto radio personality who reported yesterday that Saturday's pregame skirmish between the New York Rangers' winger and the Toronto Maple Leafs' Darcy Tucker was incited by Avery referring to Jason Blake's cancer condition, The New York Post has learned.

Advised by his attorney to decline public comment, Avery has privately denied the charge as broadcast by Howard Berger over The Fan 590. Berger cited an unnamed Rangers player as the original source of the report.

Who is going to believe Avery in Ontario?

You know, if Shanahan threw his teamate under the bus, which it appears he did, it only lends credence to the fact that this happened. What will be very interesting is how the Rags handle it. I can easily see Avery being a black sheep on his own team and dissention in the ranks.

Could be a ticket out of MSG for that rat bastard Avery.

And word is out he's cheating on that bulemic Olsen twin with his ex in public.

This guy just oozes class, doesn't he. Or maybe he just oozes...

Actually, no. Shanahan has strongly denied saying or hearing anything and supported a libel suit against Howard Berger.

So we have no players who are saying they heard him say it, including the guy to whom it was supposedly said.

Also, think about this. Say, theoreticlly, Avery DID say it. Now, we have not a single player saying they heard it, from both teams, including Blake. If Avery had said it and it looked like there was no evidence to get him in trouble, why would he pursue this situation further through legal channels?

Wouldn't he just be happy to "get way with it" and drop it? Why call further attention to it?

Again, this reeks of shoddy and overzealous mediawork.

I disagree.
Writers usually take these risks/stretches with trade rumors.
Would someone really be that stupid and risk their career to make something up?

Blake didn't confirm NOR did he deny it.
He said he wasn't really sure what was said. vagueness yet again.

There is a secrecy usually amongst the old schoolers to keep things in house.

That's why they were called to Toronto.

That's why we'll continue to leave it all up for interpretation.

For what it's worth, I'll bet you Mr. Avery will NOT follow through with his tough talk of a "libel" suit.

although i wouldn't be surprised to see Avery sink to such a low level, i don't think he said that.

Avery was probably just doing his usual pestering and we all know Blake can be a bit of a hot head himself and reacted a bit.. then Tucker came over and did his thing too.

i think if Avery really did say something about Blake's cancer, there would be a much bigger reaction from the players on both sides. seems to me like a bunch of speculation at this point, but i do imagine Avery would've been hit with a much harder punishment if he did in fact say something about Blake's cancer.

"Ted Nolan" type player
1) Hes a ranger fan, he even said he was a while ago.

2) Hes right on this particular issue. THe media was looking for a quick story which caught on in hockey mad canada. Blake was asked about it and denied anyone said anything about cancer. As a matter of fact EVERYONE involved said that nothing was said about Blake's health

3) The rangers suck balls

The same way then Flyers superpest Keith Acton used to call
Devs Russian defenseman Fetisov, "Commie" on a live Devs broadcast as he
hung over the bench at the old Continental arena is the same way Sean Avery did his taunting.

Maybe the word "cancer" wasn't mentioned.
Perhaps, "go get your treatment", "get more radiation" or, "take yours meds"...
something along those lines.

SO WHAT??? That is what friggin happens in hockey people.
I;m sure some of you have driven, some jerk cuts you off and you scream,
"drop dead a-hole" as you give them the finger.

HEAT of the moment.

This was a bad case of bad publicity for the NHL and they took action to suppress this.

Now, as for any Ranger fans reading this board, go back to your boards and talk your crap.
Your boy Avery is a dirtbag, as is Hollpig as is the rest of that ugly uniform wearing sack of S
of a team, as is every NYer that wears that bozo the clown uniform.

Sean Avery, go ahead sue me for "LIBEL" you idiot.
He can dish it out, but when the S hits he fan he runs to the lawyers?

Look, he may or may not have directed anything "un politically correct" towards Blake,
but the point is, that crap GOES on in NHL games.

I'm an Islander.

But, maybe someone is a Ranger fan?

... not that there is anything wrong with that.

See, there was this time in college. We had too much to drink, one thing led to another and the next thing you know my buddy and I, well... let's just say that he let something cross his lips that he didn't expect... :fear:

a cheer for the Rangers.
