Umm...so what the eff is going on? Tambellini gets sent back to the Bridge, and Hilbert gets to play with Vasicek and Satan? If I'm not mistaken, Vasicek is a fine defensive player, and pretty much the only thing Hilbert is good for is being defensively responsible. I like Andy a lot, but Tambellini is supposed to be our future. What's going on?!

Why is it that the Devils didn't have to keep sending down Zajac and Parise? Parise scored 30 goals last year, and Tambellini is fully capable to do that. Even the f#@king star-studded Rangers have given spots to Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan. You have to give your youth a chance to play, and for some reason, Ted Nolan or whoever else involved in these decisions doesn't seem to understand that.

I'm not going to go too far into this, but if we keep putting out mediocre players and bringing in mediocre free agents while not giving the time of day to any of our draft picks/ young players, then we can expect mediocre results.

This should be Tamby's year. It seems to me like Andy Hilbert was given Tamby's spot on the left wing just because he's a little older.

and if ted nolan is keeping hilbert up because of a year or two more of experience, thats dumb.

tambellini proved he can score goals. hilbert proved that he can hit posts. without being given a chance to play in the NHL for a full season, how is tambellini ever going to gain the experience?

COME ON TED!

Not older, just has more NHL experience.

You would've thought Teddy would have learned from the Dunham fiasco from last year, but he didn't.

Here's the scale Teddy used to determine the roster:
Skill: 3
NHL Experience: 7
Toughness: 8
Grit: 9

Grit only gets you so far, Teddy!

hilbert proved that he can hit posts.

He also proved he can hit the logo on the goaltender's jersey, you can't forget that.

hilbert proved that he can hit posts.

thats because (this is a little known fact) hilbert learned to shoot from watching D2: The Mighty Ducks when gordon bombay took on the Iceland coach 1 on 1. DUH...

I was just reading the comments under Greg Logan's blob, and people are LIVID that Tambellini isn't on the team.

Ironically, take a look at who the player is on the blog banner. You guessed it. Tambellini!

i'm as big of a fan of Hilbert you'll come across and i'm a HUGE Nolan fan, BUT there's no way in hell Hilbert is a better guy for the 2nd scoring line job than Tambellini.

i won't even say Hilbert had a better camp.. he was very weak on the puck and didn't play with the same hockey IQ as he did last season. Tambellini however was one of our better forwards in many of our pre-season games and he did very well offensively throughout camp.

ya Tambs slowed down a bit towards the end of camp, but i would still say he's done more to earn the spot than Hilbert.

Tambellini has nothing else to prove in the AHL, it won't help his development at all. he's NHL ready and he needs to start learning at this level NOW.

just a damn shame Jeff didn't make it on the opening night roster.
"We're not in a bind at all," Burke said. "I'd say of the 29 teams, we don't talk to Edmonton, so of the 28 other teams, there's plenty of interest in making this predicament go away. I could hang up the phone and solve this."

Tambellini is also on the cover of the soundtigers schedule that I got. It says "Where Islanders are born" and has him in a soundtiger uniform and an Islanders uniform.

We should trade tambs and meyer in a package deal. I know it sounds dumb, but there is no point in having them if they wont play. Meyer is 26 or older, and can play elsewhere in the league. He is a waste at the Bridge. Tambs while young has maxed out at the bridge. He also can play on a NHL roster elsewhere. Lets pull a milbury and trade them both to a good team for a low end draft pick. That should straighten this team out. I say tambs and meyer to San Jose for their 4th rd pick in 2009.

I wonder if there is a deal in the works to move Meyer & Hilbert for picks.

A lot of excellent points made on this thread but this is the one I'm going to highlight because it's dead on. Hilbert didn't have a good camp and even if he did he's still probably the worst option on the team to have as the winger on that line. Just very bizarre I really do not understand what the thinking is here. Nolan is very stubborn about giving young guys roster spots. In some situations it's the right move to make young players truely go above and beyond to earn a roster spot but as mentioned before it doesn't always have to work like that, see the Rangers, Devils, and Penguins.

In the big picture none of this is a big deal, all that matters is who is there at the end of the year.

well, with a seemingly overwhelming outrage/confusion about the Tamby cut on the boards, and in various blog comments, I have no doubt an explanation will be imminent.
