Seriously man, What the crap? Well, Here's the crap(from Nolan): On Jeff Tambellini being sent to Bridgeport:“In order for Jeff to be up here, he has to be among the top nine forwards. Jeff’s not a fourth-line guy. The way Sim and Fedotenko played in camp, and the way Andy Hilbert performed for us consistently last year, it was just one of those things. That’s not to say he won’t be back up here in a very short time. He’ll get his chance, and if he performs on a consistent basis, he’ll stay here.” On Andy Hilbert playing alongside Miroslav Satan and Josef Vasicek:“Andy will be a very reliable defensive person on the line with Vasicek and Satan. If you look at all the big lines on any team, there’s always one guy who is more defensively-minded, as the high guy and the first one back. He’s one of those guys who does a lot of the work, but doesn’t get the credit for it.” |

Augh! That's exactly the explanation I preemptively objected to at the beginning! Maybe Nolan's implication is that he wants Vasicek to play in front of the net, and doesn't want him to be focused on defense. That's fair, I guess. But still, I think this stinks. I say we trade Satan for something young and gritty, and put Tambellini in his place. |

...I figured that would be the answer...although Nolan cites LAST YEAR not CAMP for giving Hilbert the nod. No worries...I'm sure Tambs will be up in no time. |

As I said in the other thread - go watch the interview on ITV - these statements are nuanced and there is more to it. You'll see. Trades and signings are coming.

This is the biggest bunch of bullshit I have ever read. So basically what you're telling me is that the players weren't graded on what they did in camp but rather what they did LAST SEASON?!?!?!??!?! I'm sorry, I knew from the beginning there wasn't one logical answer for this one and I was just proven right. This team is going to need all the goals it can get. Bryan Berard would have improved the PP immensely and Jeff Tambellini would have presented the Islanders a much better option on a supposed "scoring line". Neither player is currently on the roster. Why does everything with this team always have to be like sitting in the dentist's chair?
DEFENSIVE PERSON? That line is supposed to be a SCORING LINE. Not a defensive line. When that line is on the ice, it's not out there to stop the other team's top scorers the way the Sillinger line will. In fact, the Comrie line is more of a checking line than the Vasicek line. This is a big mistake, and as was proven last year one point in the standings can make all the difference. Andy Hilbert WILL NOT score goals. That line is going to suffer with him being on it. |

100% right, Snowman. Its as clear as day to me - you'd think management would be in a better position to see the same thing. LAST YEAR!? What kind of reasoning is that? Tamby must be devastated. |

I think a collective "OH NO" was just yelled by all the goalposts and logos of NHL goalies. |

Mark Messier 7/13/2000 after returning to the Rags after 3 seasons in Vancouver: "I'll guarantee you we'll make the playoffs. I don't think anybody will be disappointed in the next two years." Next two years: No playoffs, lots of disappointment You Rags fans only remember the guarantees that come true, dontcha? The guy is 50/50 on significant guarantees. | |

Maybe this is why Tambs wasn't placed on the roster right away: 1. The team has the maximum amount of players on the roster. 2. Simon counts against that, for the first 5 games, so they keep Bootland as a needed enforcer. 3. When Simon can play, down goes bootland. That opens up a spot. 4. Hilbert has a one way. Tambs has a 2 way. Tambs had to be sent down, but will get the call up in 5 games. Agree/Disagree? |

No, see, you have Simon who cant play, but counts on the roster. When Bootland gets sent down, thats one less spot. Simon is already on the roster. Tambs will have a spot open up for him. See? |

What sybo meant is that the actual on-ice roster is full. When Simon comes back, he will take Bootland's spot on the ice. So when Bootland goes, Tambellini will be able to be on the roster, but not on the ice. That is, unless someone else is a healthy scratch. Maybe we're showcasing Hilbert for a trade? |

well yeah, on ice roster...but we are keeping 8 d-men, and obviously 2 will not dress. Maybe like the d-men, Nolan will dress who he feels will be good for that game, so there will be rotating d and rotating f. |

OK, what the hell happened to 'IN GARTH WE TRUST" "IN TED WE TRUST" Now everybody here knows more than them two do. I can't say suddenly, because it's always been like that. Not just here, but on all the boards. If we're all so damn smart why the hell ain't we in the NHL. As far as I'm concerned we will have a daamn good bunch on the ice, they may not win all the games but they will win enough. I'm sure there are going to be a few tweeks here and there to make us even better. So why not just sit back, watch and enjoy. |

No jerry, it's never good enough for everyone to accept. What would Tambellini guarantee on a line with Vasicek and Satan? 30 goals? 20? a +15 on the season? The answer is simple, if you want to crack an NHL lineup, you earn the spot WITHOUT giving your coaching staff a had decision. Tambellini just didn't do that this year, period. Also since it was brought up in another thread that the Devils gave Parise a shot, Parise earned a spot in their preseason that first year and proved himslef a reliable 2 way player, the offense came after that. Big difference. Good grief, I need aspirin from what I'm reading. Jerry thank you for pointing it out, it needs to be said, IN NOLAN WE TRUST, I know I do.

And Steve, Hilbert is that much of an NHL veteran where he went into camp with a job already secure? The guy didn't even have a good camp. He scored 8 goals in 81 games last year. You're putting him on the second line? Lets not forget that this is a guy who everybody said was a key piece to the Sillinger line last season. Then he was replaced by Ryan Smyth and the line went from being good to great. Nobody is claiming to know more than Garth or Ted but this is something even a 5th grader could figure out. Andy Hilbert has proven nothing more than the fact that when he's on the ice he isn't a liability. Tambellini had a better camp and he should have made the team over Hilbert. |
