Thanks for putting it into perspective.

Do we not have Bergy, Gervis, Campoli, Martínek, Dubie and DP from our system???

Notice that there's a little imbalance among those names? Bergy is the only forward that was an original Isles draft pick in the current roster. We've gotta mix more homegrown guys in there, regardless of the Tambellini debate. This was all started by Milbury, I'll note, who set the trend of trading draft picks, leaving the cupboard a little bare.

Oddly enough, the team got it right on defense, with Campy, Marty and Gervais mixed in with guys like Witt, Sutton, and Bergeron. Its up front in the offense where some of that must happen.

I think that Jeff Tambellini has the nicest teeth I have ever seen on a hockey player.

See, how can you argue with that? How can you argue with that?

You can call me Joe.
My unsolicited 2cents:

a] Nolan and Snow know what they're doing
b] Tambellini has to be disappointed, but doubt he's rocking in the fetal position in his room - look for him to come out fired up in Bport
c] also look for Hilbert to work hard (as usual) to prove Nolan and Snow right, maybe he relaxes & buries more of his chances, gets plenty of A's with Vasicek and Satan finishing
d] Tambellini will be moved up when the conditions are right, depending on injuries/trades/chemistry over initial 8-10 games
e] NYI will have some interesting trade options, without cutting into reserves for injury, ability to tweak for chemistry

Bottom line: this is a good "problem" to have - as long as bubble players are managed well

I think Tambellini will be fine, I'm really curious how the D is going to shake out.

Finally, a few people have already tossed out trading Hilbert and Meyer - I think Satan and Meyer is more likely, b/c of cap flexibility plus Hilbert being another prototypical "Nolan type player"; if it looks like Tambs can step in and finish, this wouldn't shock me.

All of this Tambo over Hilbert is hard for me.

Is this the Hilbert that was PLUS 10 last year? The Hilbert that had 20 assists? The Hilbert that was the speed and the defensive positioning on the team's most consistent line last year? The Hilbert that never took one stupid penalty? The Hilbert that scored a crucial game-winning goal late in the season when we needed to win every game to make the playoffs?

Is this the Tambo the one that . . . well, come to think of it . . . it's all wishful thinking . . a lot of it, too.

When Tambo is ready . . . and he probably will be . . . EVENTUALLY . . . I'll be behind him as much as I'm behind Hilbert.

It's a long season and things can change very quickly but you have to think Tamby is upset. He had a great camp last year and what is left to prove in the AHL. Personally, I think Hilbert in the top six will not last long. I hope the kid gets a real shot eventually. I believe his contract is up after this season and if things play out like last year, he'd be crazy to sign with us. Potentially, another young player that never got a shot here who could flourish with another team. Has to stop at some point.

I agree with some of you that Tambellini deserves an extended look but he didnt have a strong camp. I think Nolan and we should want someone more defensively reponsible. What if Tamby doesn't find the net and he is loose is in his own end.

Hilbert is the safer play for now and Tambellini may come up quickly if he starts strong at the Bridge, if Hilbert struggles big time or if there's an injury.

Like some have said, I trust Nolan to field the lineup that gives us the best chance to win each night.

Snowy, I have a feeling that if Jeff Tambellini's name was Jeff Thomas or something else, alot of people
wouldn't be so heated about him not making it.

Honestly Steve, I don't think that's the case at all. I wasn't even born when Steve Tambellini was here, I think he won the Cup with us in 1980, and I was born in '82. Plus, history tells us that relatives of hockey stars are usually not quite stars themselves; just look at the great Brett Lindros, Mark Howe, I think even Gretzky had a brother that played.

Mark Howe had some good years with the Flyers and Whalers. Hell, he's in the US Hockey Hall of Fame. IMO the more appropriate Howe to include with those illustrious names is Marty Howe. Point well taken, though.
Why bother?

So did Henri Richard...he was not bad. ;)

And what about the Sutters?

Gordie had two kids in the NHL and Mark Howe was runnerup to the Norris 3 times in his career.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

And Gordie played long enough to play with them... and still be an All Star... IN HIS FIFTIES.

Gordie is my favorite hockey player of all time, no competition.

I have his autograph - twice. One was a gift with well wishes for my wife and my wedding anniversary. (Our 10th is next Tuesday.)

Gordie ROCKS.

To add insult to injury, and this is NO JOKE, it REALLY happened:

Andy Hilbert just flirted with my wife at a Quiznos on Jericho Turnpike. He asked her if the second sandwich was for her boyfriend. I told her she should have said "No, it's for Jeff Tambellini"

At least I know Hilbert's got good taste - and by that, I mean a good taste in sandwiches.

"I'll guarantee you we'll make the playoffs. I don't think anybody will be disappointed in the next two years."
Next two years: No playoffs, lots of disappointment
You Rags fans only remember the guarantees that come true, dontcha? The guy is 50/50 on significant guarantees.

Ted Nolan, by sending Tambellini down, has made the Islanders all that much slower.

He is a blazing skater, that is made for the new NHL.

Grit is good, and veterans are great, but theirs no substitute for talent.

After watching the Isles ......... wallow through last years play offs, with a very slow plodding team, you think speed and scoring would have been at the top of his agenda.

One last note, Jason of the Ottawa Sens was sent down a few times , much to his disappointment, before he stuck with the big team, so this may not be all that bad for the kid. He will have to show is determination, Nolan might still be testing him.

But it still not excuse by any NHL coach to over look talent in speed and replace it with a veteran like Hilbert who is also unproven!
