Jeff Tambellini laughed and gave assurances his father won't be doing anything untoward.

Islanders general manager Garth Snow and coach Ted Nolan last season asked players and coaches to invite a father or mentor on a road trip, and the Islanders' traveling party increased by 15 for a November trip to Dallas, Tampa, Florida and Toronto.

This season, a combination of 35 fathers and mentors will accompany the Islanders today when they depart for a three-game trip that takes the team first to Atlanta and then to Florida to face the Panthers and Lightning.

Tambellini is one of those whose father will travel. The catch? Not that Steve Tambellini was a forward on the Islanders first Stanley Cup team in 1980, but that he's currently the assistant general manager of the Canucks.

"I ran it by Teddy and Garth to make sure it wasn't too difficult a situation," Jeff Tambellini said after yesterday's morning skate. "But he's coming as a dad, not a GM with Vancouver. Hopefully, it should be a great experience and I'm really looking forward to it."

"I think it's great," Nolan said. "I have two young boys who play and I'd love to go on a trip with them one day. It's great for the relationships, it's great for family atmosphere and that's what we're trying to build here."

I liked Richard Park Sr. the best. (Don't know if that's really his name)

Isn't Mike Comrie's dad like a Canadien furniture mogul billionaire?

I think Comrie himself could handle the b-day gift for Duff.

This is just what they need. The road, their father or mentor to talk them through what's going on.

And most importantly, I think they will absolutely give their all in front of family which will be a big plus. Nobody wants to look like crap in front of friends and family, ever.

And I DO NOT think it will put added pressure on them. ust the ooposite.

IF THAT DONT WORK

THE DADS SHOULD WAKE THE SONS UP AT 3AM

maybe we'll get to see Trent Hunter and his twin/father again.
"We're not in a bind at all," Burke said. "I'd say of the 29 teams, we don't talk to Edmonton, so of the 28 other teams, there's plenty of interest in making this predicament go away. I could hang up the phone and solve this."

I know it will inspire those players whose fathers are present. Works for my kids. :yea:

There's one thing to face the coach after not playing your best, it's completely different when it's your dad waiting for you after a bad game. No one knows the player and the effort he can give better than his Dad.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

yes he is but he lives in California now since Mike has been blacballed by most of Canada.

I thought it was funny with Tambs looking for the OK for his dad.

HOW LONG BEFORE THE NHL STARTS SQUAKING????

I was thinking the SAME thing, moreso expecting an article from Larry Brooks
whining for league intervention.

Nick, I wouldn't doubt one bit if that guy read this board.
(they'd all be silly not to get a sense or pulse from area fans)

His old man sold the business and now lives in LA. At one time he was also a minority owner of the Oilers.
