Our early record was the case of us overperforming. Playing all those tight close 1 goal games maybe took a toll. That's full games of being sharp and balls to the wall (pardon my expression) to either getting the tying goal or preserving the lead. Maybe a day off or 2 in the Florida sun will do us good. They can recharge the batteries and get back that what made us successful early on. |

Here's to hoping for the battery recharge! One of our weaker points over the past few seasons in my opinion has been a lack of real speed. I wonder (out loud) if we would do well to play a more trap and grind style to compensate? (I know I know--Devils = trap = ) My only concern there is, we don't have a ton of real hitters either. Obviously Witt, Hunter fit the bill, but for you gurus and coaches out there, how do you really teach effective hitting? I can just see guys trying to line up hits and then getting beat even worse than now, and end up hooking or tripping.

Danny, add Sutton and Fedotenko to that short list of big hitters. Finishing checks and effective hitters are two different things. Guys who are effective hitters WANT to hit and love that part of the game. Well rounded players finish checks that are effective like Satan, but you can tell the guys who really like that part of the game, like Hunter or Tank. Satan wont make you rush a play or look over your shoulder when you have the puck, but you can bet if your a winger going into the corner and you know Witt's bearing down on you, you will be quick with the puck and make mistakes. |
