relative to topic...I am still pretty bummed we didn't get to see Sim play this year :(

He played the first two games.

But last night I really thought so as well. He is the type of player that would just go out there and start throwing hits around, and pushing and really trying.

NOne of them really looked like they were trying.

yes, but no one player can make that big of an impact to
suppress a funk that we're in.

Tambellini was called up, had a few decent shifts but made no impact on our scoring woes.

I think as soon as our captain, Bll Guerin scores one and the guys celebrate,
you'll see a looser atmosphere with more creativity and confidence on offense.

That lack of confidence and the frustration with this the guys was highly evident
after Campoli scored last night.
No reaction whatsoever.

The road trip should help them.

I thought maybe the shoot out win against Ottawa would've helped their confidence but I guess I was wrong...
We did have that stinker against the Rangers the very next night. I blame the hockey scheduling Gods for that one.

Yeah yeah I know its no excuse. But i'm reaching here people.

It just seems like we're snake bitten. I agree with whoever said it- once Guerin nets one they will all loosen up and they'll start going in. We're pressing sawdust out of our sticks right now (even though they're all composite these days). Passing instead of shooting and wondering what the hell we have to do to put one in.

I think the floodgates will open as soon as we get that first one.

How about first period, first shift against the Thrashers for a start?

I'm sticking with this team as I know they are better than they are playing right now. I just don't want to see a lenghty streak that puts us at the bottom looking up.

Keep the faith, no matter how much it sucks watching them right now. I truly think that they are probably in a fog right now, but sooner or later professionals get pissed off and do something about it. Let's see what these guys are made of on the road trip.

Good points IQ!

Also, after final buzzer, Guerin walked off high fiving everyone down the runway to lockers.
He should have been more incensed but maybe that's not his thing.

Maybe by keeping an even keel he feels they'll snap out of it.

They would know best, I'm not going to second guess him/them.

But still I found that odd.

ok so what i think has me most upset is the standings

i do know its early

but we had alot less games played than the rangers-- now 2 weeks later

they have played 27 we played 25- only two game difference!

and they have 32 points and we have 27

its like we stood still and they passed us...big time

Funny enough I am reminded of the movie Master and Commander... that one young officer who the crew thinks is cursed. There is no wind for weeks until he decides to throw himself overboard :P

I am not worried with our team. Is a 3 game slump so far and 13 game limited scoring. We are above 500. but to me that is not what i am looking for in our Islanders and believe we are better than our recored. We do need to make a trade. Ryder is going to be gone this week. If we can add 30 goal scorers that would help but most likely not going to happen. It would be great to have Cheechoo and Ryder but i am just dreaming

We are not in bad shape. I understand the goals are not there but we were 2 points behind last year at this time but our division is tougher this year than lasts. We are a better team, but we do need some changes.

TRADING AWAY OUR FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS IS NOT A BIG DEAL. WHY YOU ASK.

We are going to be mediocre team for the next two years, meaning we are going to have a draft pick 15 and up most likely. We probably are not going to draft a scorer, we may draft potential but we need some one on our team and its not going to come from the draft. If we do make a trade, we have to make sure the guy has years on his contract or is willing to sign a contract once the trade is completed.

I do propose to drop a crazy amount of games in 2009 and take Tavares but that is just an idea. We also will have around $15.00 million dollars in cap space by the deadline.

:dontknow:

it was no emphatic high five that's for sure. He was merely being classy and showing the fans some respect/love. After 2 games like that, it was the LEAST he could do. As a vet I'm sure he knows that cooler heads prevail in these situations.

Steve,
I can't see the team celebrating after getting a goal late to make it 3-1. Too little, too late.
If you see someone down on the ground, you lend them a hand. Unless they're a Rangers fan, then you kick them in the face.

Yup, noticed that and found it strange too. Guerin was the ONLY 1 giving high 5's. The Captain after a loss. Seemed way out of place. The loss probably bothered us more than him.

As each day goes by InvisiBILL aka dollarBILL annoys me more and more.

Wow you all give up way too easily.
Have some faith in your team.

No kidding. So many people are sounding like those crying Rags fans when they got off to a slow start offensively.

As for Sutton, gimme a break. He may have screwed up last night on the second goal, but he's played well, especially the last 2 weeks. How anyone is looking at our defensemen and placing blame on them defensively (other than MAB) is beyond me.

The O is in a hole no doubt. It would help if players knew where to go in the O zone. A few tips for our forwards...

1- Go to the front of the goal!!!! (That is what we call the "good ice")

2- Get to the front of the goal, but don't grow roots. Move around in front. The best goal scorers from the slot- Bossy, Hull, Selanne- all create space between then and the man covering them by moving side to side or even away from the goal once position is established to create some space for a one timer.

3- When waiting for a rebound...ALWAYS BE atleast 5' above the goalie. Anyone right on top of the goalie will have rebounds go behind them (heck, we have guys behind the goalie when point shots are taken???) Players can move forward for rebounds, but players can't move backwards for them and then shoot forwards.

No one on this team goes for the goal, and on the off chance someone does, they dont' stop in the slot. They just keep going past the net. The only one who has a clue as to play in the slot in Guerin and he's about as accurate as a Richard Todd pass right now.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

Then why do teams like Detroit, the Devils, and Ottawa, who are perennial playoff contenders, always manage to turn out an awesome rookie year after year. They don't need to be in the Top 5 of the draft to land winners. It's all about the scouting and developing your players in the right fashion.
