So nice they'll do it twice???? Hopefully they will play hard for 60 minutes. If they do, they win. That simple. Carolina is not a good team. They are SLOOOOOOOW and old on defense. They have one of the worst PK units in the NHL. If the isles jump on them and STAY ON THEM, this could be a good 4 goal win. HOWEVER.... The Isles have not stayed on anyone they've jumped on which is too bad. To show how crucial those last 2 games were, the standings should be... 1 Ottawa Senators* 64 2 New Jersey Devils 57 3 Atlanta Thrashers 49 4 Pittsburgh Penguins 57 5 Montréal Canadiens 56 6 Philadelphia Flyers* 55 7 New York Islanders 54 8 Boston Bruins 53 9 New York Rangers 50 10 Carolina Hurricanes* 48 11 Washington Capitals 47 12 Buffalo Sabres 46 we should be 3 points out of first place and one point behind the Flyers for 3rd in our own division. the standings are... 1 Ottawa Senators* 64 2 Philadelphia Flyers* 57 3 Carolina Hurricanes* 50 4 New Jersey Devils 57 5 Pittsburgh Penguins 57 6 Montréal Canadiens 56 7 Boston Bruins 53 8 New York Islanders 51 9 New York Rangers 50 10 Atlanta Thrashers 49 11 Washington Capitals 47 12 Buffalo Sabres 46 Instead of having a little space, we are grasping on to that last playoff spot. That is what the lack of skating this week has done to us. My bro and I were talking and I just have to agree with what he said...no matter how I don't want to. This team is not ready to compete in the top 5-6 of the conference. When you look at the big games they've had the past two weeks...Montreal, Philadelphia, Carolina...all winnable games that the Isles didn't skate in...you really have to wonder. If it happens once in a while, you write it off to a bad night. However, when it happens repeatedly, it says something about the team. Right now, it says to me that this team is not ready, able or willing to climb that next hurdle and be a top 5 or 6 team in the conference...not at this point at least. And it is frustrating because I look at teams in front of us and I see GAPING holes. yes, we have them too, but our effort can cover them up. Our failure to make a run lately isn't because of our holes, it was because the effort wasn't there. It wasn't there for Montreal, Philly or Carolina and we easily could have had 4 of those 6 points. |
I miss these and want more of them ![]()

A perfect post! Like you, I wish your brother were wrong. If they were real contenders for 4 or 5 spot, they would have won these past 2 games at least. So it looks like we are in a battle for the lower end of the playoff bubble. We can't seem to streak one way or the other. We will never win 5+ games in a row like Pittsburgh can do. Nor will you likely see a strecth where we lose that many (I hope). 2-3 games either way. To get into the playoffs, you need to be at least 10 games over. I think we are currently at 4 - so there clearly is work ahead of us. BTW, anything short of a regulation win tonight is unacceptable. |

I thought Dubie would be a lock for this one, but after losing last night I dunno. If they are gonna give DP a night off, perhaps it should be the Ottawa game AFTER the all-star break. They are so far ahead it's like playing a western conference team at this point. |

They are struggling lately, think they've won only once in their last 5 or 6 games. |

I'll be at the game tonight, sitting right behind the home goal (Isles shoot twice). Should I take pictures? |

- Today was an optional skate for both teams. About 14 Islanders took the ice after a team meeting. ted has cracked the whip - Wade Dubielewicz will start for the Islanders tonight while it looks like Cam Ward will be back in net for the Hurricanes. There were some talks that John Grahame would start tonight, but it doesn’t look that way. http://nyimediablog.blogspot.com/ |

a team meeting....AKA win tonite or everyone is going to the soundtigers and the soundtigers are coming up |
| After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots" | |
