From that sharp angle, deflected or not DP should have stopped that 4th goal. If he wasnt so concerned with a pass in front and just stayed square to the shooter he makes the stop. He turned expecting a pass and was no longer square to the shooter opening up the angle that Letang shot from.

We did have a good effort, better than we've seen recently, but better isnt good enough if we dont get 2 points.

Another game, another missed 2 points. :nono:

That game is typical Isles for the last few years. Get close only to choke at the end by some fluky crap and a goal is cluelessly disallowed.

If I didn't see this franchise win 4 cups and 19 playoff series in a row I'd have been outta here years ago. Don't know how the young fans that have only seen this crap stick around.
John Tavares was 2 years old the last time NYI won a playoff series

He's been injured so much you have to believe he's a little shy getting close to the boards for contact

you mean the TWO Penguins standing in front alone? DP shouldn't have been concerned with them?

I'm just simply amazed no one is focused on the ridiculous turnover that led to the goal. A defensemen (and I didn't see which one it was) recevied the puck from DP alone in the corner...no one on him. Instead of moving the puck up ice by skating or off the board, as soon as a Pen closed in the puck was blindly wrapped around the end boards to no one.

Good teams don't make those plays in their own zone in a late tied game.

IQ- I agree with you to a point. But when it is the same few people making the same ridiculous comments...and yes, they are ridiculous, about what is a goalie's fault, it gets a bit hard to take.

I4C, I understand that the giveaway lead to the shot, but he's got to concentrate on the shot FIRST, let instinct take him across the crease WHEN the pass comes.

and ridiculous to you may not be to others so please stop, argue the opinion, dont ridicule it.

Overall, I was happy with the effort last night. A couple of mistakes, esp. coverage in front of the net & a few dubious passes. Nice to see Comrie step up a bit, even if that first goal was mostly a function of Conklin roaming too much.

Shame about the whistle at the end. I didn't see the rest of this thread, I'm sure it was agonized over already, but still....

They should bottle up the intensity from the last 3 minutes of this game and spike the gatorade with it.

"The Franchise" consistently gives up these kind of goals no matter the Defense in front of him over the years

"Remember DP's still young. And what kind of D has he had in front of him? Anything like Billy Smith had?"

I think you did Jim

No I didn't. Don't put words in my mouth. I said he was young; I didn't say that's a result of his mistakes.

Webby...

he didn't come off the post. he went down to his knee and went "paddle down" just like Broduer made famous and now every goalie does it. And he went paddle down because the shot was low.

Like i said before, no goalie is making a 3 foot adjustment in .3 seconds. And if you look where the puck went in, there was virtually no room, less than a 6" window.

It was a fluke goal started by a bad turnover. And the thing that really burns me is whenever a goal happens, the same individuals never mention the turnovers or out of position players or bad passes that lead to them. They only look at the end of the trail of the goal instead of the steps that led to it.

Does DP make mistakes and let in soft goals...absolutely. Does he do it at he frequency that some claim on this board? Absolutely not.

If he saves 18 of 20 and we lost 2-1, you can guarantee people will claim he should have stopped 19. Heck, there were even people complaining about the one goal he let in in the 56 save effort v. the Rags last year.

But maybe it is just me expecting too much from the people in front of him not to play like a group of bantams.

He didnt come off the post. As the replay shows he turned his shoulders expecting a pass instead of staying square to the shooter, and that opened up the corner. Come on, Letang was shooting from an angle of almost 90 degrees, tip or no tip there should be no room for the puck to get in.

Right On Time.
^ Exactly.

Also the tip was right off the shot. You say low, the puck was tipped right after he shot it. When a guy shoots it from the point and its tipped in front it is different.

The puck was rising up and hit Witts stick, he wasn't going low to stop it. It was tipped almost at impact and dit it move? Yes, was it easy? No, but if you think NO goalie in the league stops that, than your not watching fairly.

You can get on a guy for being out of position ALMOST every goal, but that happens. Should we expect a goal EVERYTIME on a breakaway? Everytime on a 2 on 1? No we shouldn't, even though it would NEVER be the goalie's fault.

The goalie is the last line of defense and our best player.

You get so angry and make your own opinion. Talking about how people want him to make 57 saves instead of 56 or a 2- 1 game. I Do not do that now, I understand more but he has let up 3 goals or more every game, our team isn't THAT much different. We have Witt back.

To not put any blame on him is un-fair. He must get some. Shoot Ranger people are killing Lundqvist for his last 10 games, they don't say oh its the team it is the D its the turnovers.

DP hasn't been as sharp since the break, period. Has he been bad? NO. Is it his fault? NO. So read that clear, but he hasn't been that sharp and don't give me the whole you have to play the game to understand.

Did all you people play goalie? Played at a high level? Stop it. Just because some people talk more angry about it or make mean comments doesn't mean they are right.

You're right when you say he didn't square up. He never did do that. But he didn't come off the post in anticipation of a pass. he stayed on the post, but wasn't square to the shooter.

They key word there is SOME...not all. That is what gets me...placing all blame.

ya know what...I'm not going to bother. I've said all I have to say. My opinion is out there and I'm fine with it.

Hope we play better next time.
