Thery were better in different areas tonight... personally, I think they played better in Pittsburgh. 2 more losses before the deadline = fork, IMHO. They can do it, they have played better - but there is no margin for error. DP needs to be pre-All Star DP (<3 GAA) not post (>3 GAA.) As his GAA goes, so goes our season.

I know this is going to be unpopular... but we have to deal Witt at the deadline.. he would get the best return. Plenty of teams are looking for that type of player. FYI - Okposo has 2 goals and 1 assist in 2 games w/o Tamby and Franz. |

???? Great play???? He picked up a loose puck for a breakaway and then failed to lift the puck one foot off the ice. I thought Tamby played a terrific game tonight. Kid hustled and created chances for both him and his linemates. Was strong in both ends. A much better game than in Pitt. But he needs to finish that. If he lifts that puck a foot and a half its in. It was a nice move but he needs to bury that. |

Martinek was terrible tonight. Those last two goals...wtf is he doing? He has a clear 3 on 2 coming at him with 3 minutes left and a one goal lead and he tries a half hearted attempt at a step up where he doesn't hurry to get a hit before the forward can pass the puck. Instead he just stops skating and puts his stick flat to try to block a pass. So the forward gets to corrale the puck, turn up ice and saucer the puck over Radek's stick for a two on one. That is just the sign of a guy who didn't want to make a physical play. Then in OT he does essentially the same thing. Gaborik comes in and Martinek puts his stick flat on the ice and neither makes a play on the shooter who is on the slot or the puck. In fact, he spins out of control, steps on the puck and kicks it right on the goal scorers stick...all while backing up practically into the crease. Man, I haven't seen Radek play a game that badly in 4 years. The pitt announcers made an interesting comment the other night. There was a play where Radek was hotly pursued for a puck behind our net and Radek clearly slowed down and let Talbot jump in front and get the puck. The Pitt announcers said, "that is a guy who was not willing to pay the price for that loose puck". I hope that isn't a trend. |

Awesome. Let's see if this is correct. Sheppard gets the puck behind the goal to the right. He skates behind the goal and Martinek leaves him to go in front despite the fact that his man has the puck. Sheppard then turns around the left side of the goal, skates to about 10' above the net into the left slot, turns to face the goal and shoots..... and not one Islander player lays so much as a finger on him. Not Radek Martinek who's responsibility Sheppard was behind the net. Not Andy Hilbert who could have picked him up as Sheppard came out the other side from behind the goal. Instead, Hilbert stopped skating and layed his stick down in an attempt to stop a pass that never came, so Hilbert instead of closing in on his man, ended up giving him 5' to get off the shot. So despite those two BLOWN ASSIGNMENTS within 10' of the goal where either of TWO ISLANDERS could have pressured the puck carrier... the goal is the goalie's fault. Don't worry about the fact that the fact that there were not only 4 men in front between the shooter and the goalie. Also, don't worry about the fact that the shooter didn't score. Sheppard did not get credit for the goal. Rolston got the goal. The puck hit his skate and went over DP's shoulder and into the net. So to summarize...Two blatant missed assignments in our end. Puck goes in off a skate, but "if DP played angles right..." That's what is odd. If "those who love to pile on DP" once mentioned the breakdown and spread the blame around...fine. But it is ALWAYS DP's fault. Shooter had it right... stay sane. |

Your last line of defense has to have his angles covered even with all you said or even if it is a break away. DP is having problems with his lateral movements and his angles for the last little while. You can pick apart everything and believe me I agree with what you just said but there is more to your equation, and thats DP!!

Excuse me? clean it up. That's all. And Rick had all the low angles covered like goalies are taught on screened shots. Another low shot gets deflected up and you'll blame Rick. OK...whatever... I think you'd have a better argument on the first goal since Rick didn't do enough to try to see past the screne Gervais gave at the last second....but whatever. BTW...I'm not saying Rick played a great game tonight and that goals weren't his fault. It would just be nice to see some of the normal "Rick haters" actually mention some of the breakdowns as a cause of a goal rather than always and only mentioning "well, Rick didn't stop it" as if he's the only one to ever allow a deflection for a goal. |
