DP had a sh!tty night. I will agree to that, but the constant bashing of him by the same people over and over is getting old. I am sure others on here would agree.

**stepping off soapbox**

Exactly.... those second and fourth goals tonight were ridiculous. DP was far too deep in his crease and he should have stopped them.

But like you said...the same people with the same thing about Rick. He had a stretch from mid Oct to mid Dec where he had only one bad game...the Carolina game and still it was the same people getting on him.

It just gets VERY OLD. It is the same people LOOKING to be negative about DP even when it isn't warranted.

I have no problem with criticizing DP's game tonight...he wasn't sharp no doubt, but when is the last time some of the "same old, same old's" praised Rick during his good play?

Now I'll get off my soapbox.

ricky played great in that six game stretch which got us back in the playoff hunt.

if it wasn't for ricky we would have no wins this year.

I hate to give you or Led fuel for the fire but Rick was far from great during that 6 game win streak, starting with that OTL in Minny, we let them get away, then 3,4,1,2,2(SO W) and then a nice shutout against lightning. Now did he play bad in all or great in all no...he's been inconsistant since that Oct-Dec timeline I4C talked about.

We won those games...if we loss one or 2 of those game the DP bashing would have started earlier and maybe Nolan would ahve realized that since DP is hurt he should giv ehim more rest.

Rick is playing hurt and well know that but we now enter a strech of playing games every other night and Dubie should play every 3rd game unless Rick is playing LIGHTS OUT.

The only place I'd really disagree is that he's been inconsistent since the ASG, not mid DEc. I said he didn't have a bad game for two months until about mid to late Dec, but then he played very well again.

Otherwise, I got no beef with that post ;)

Right On Time.
Three Things...

1) Why does everyone think RICK should get so many nights off? He is not even in the top FIVE in the league in games played. THE TOP GUYS play all the time that is how it is, that is how you should WANT it to be. If he is injured that is a different story. The All-Star goalies play. That is one thing I love about him.

2) 3Poti I am sorry but you always yell and scream about calling a time-out. It is not that valuable. It is not like other sports where it helps you inbounding the ball or getting another play off. Plus you get one all game, it is not the cure all. (Still love you though man! You're a good OBJECTIVE fan, I like that about you).

3) Everyone that yells about pulling your goalie. You know what the records for teams are when they pull their goalies? Yes thats right PATHETIC.

As far as the game....

1) LOVED that Comrie could actually score with a wrist shot. That was a great shot, same with Hunter. Josef and Hilbert real solid game. About to watch the game in full now.

BIG/FUN couple weeks of puck coming up!

1 Evgeni Nabokov 61
2 Miikka Kiprusoff 61
3 Martin Brodeur 59
4 Ryan Miller 59
5 Tomas Vokoun 58
5 Rick Dipietro 58

Don't let the facts get in the way Tinman - Looks top 5 to me

I see 1 goalie with a team above the top 5 in each conf there. That means there are 8 other top teams that rest there goales.

The facts are he's playing hurt. And for some posters to constantly bash him even when he leaves his heart out on the ice is discouraging. And the sad part is some, and I underscore the word some, in the past have backed such players like Yashin and Kvasha. Mind boggling.

DP is a good goalie, good enough for the All Star team.

Someday, like Eli Manning, he will silence the critics.

But it won't happen to a. he's healthy. b. there are defensemen who can consistently clear the defensive zone without having to play ping pong with the puck several times.

This day will come. I really look forward to it.

What I don't understand is....Why bash your own team? I mean I could understand Berard (lol) but I mean like the slogan says "were all islanders" With a guy like DP, I don't think anyone has a right to bash him. Upset with him....yes; at times, but not sit there and let him have it like he single handedly lost the game. (cue cheesy quotes) There's no I in team. Everything works together. The defense played too far back, pushing DP into the crease a little more than he liked and BAM 4-4 game. If the defense pushed up DP would have played the top of his crease and it would have been 2 points in regulation. Unless the puck is coughed up in the defensive zone and it results in a goal, I don't think DP needs any bashing. For gods sake....look how many games he stole for us!
After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"

The Cup will come back to Long Island. The process has started. We should be able to grab three quality prospects in this year's draft.

What I don't understand is....Why bash your own team?

While I agree with not trashing the whole team everynight...players have bad stretches and sometimes its an indication of things to come and sometimes its a bad streak. As Shooter stated, there hopefully will be a day when DP is vindicated to his critics much like Eli Manning was this year. However, Eli is not without faults just like DP is not without. DP is on the ice for the whole game and to me Goalies bear the brunt of criticize much like QB's do. Some QB's throw a ton on INT's cause A) the don't make smart decisions and B.) they have no time to make a good decision cause there O-line is bad.

goalies are the same way....Brodeur is great goalie but he also had a good d-system in place....put him on the Isles the last 10 years and he would still be an all-star but I doubt having 84 SO's. As I pointed out to TinMan, look at the top 5 goalies in games played and look at the 16 teams currently in the playoffs...only 4 goalies are part of those 16 teams....that's because you don't need to burn the goalie out if have a good system in play. There might be a day when DP can start 70-75 games a season but he isn't there yet and the Isles need to realize a little rest for DP will go a much longer way in him staying healthily and focused.

DP had a bad night and the Team bailed him out which is great because that's what a team does, DP bail's them out when they can't put a puck in the ocean and they help him out when he can't stop a beach ball. There will always be people like LedZep, 3Poti and Caber09 who can't wait to jump at his mistakes, on the flip side there will be people like Moose, IQ and even Snowy who will defend Rick with equal enthusium. Finally there will be a bunch of us in the middle who see both sides and should be able to point out bad nights or flaws we think we see just like Berard, MAB, Hilbert or a few others.

I agree with your whole statement, Especially this. Now Im a yankees fan as well. Im not a nut about them but I do watch them from time to time. Ive never seen Derek Jeter hit the ball. With as many times as he's up at bat, Ive yet to see him knock one outta the park. I almost never see anyone rag on him bc he cant hit the ball. I dunno, Im just comparing.... I think if DP lets in goals like he did last night its a team mistake, as I mentioned before...

How about that Davison guy huh? 20 mins ice time!

What a huge 2 points last night.

(read on if you have time, if not, scroll to the next post)

The look on Nolans face after Holik's goal said it all.
But true to form, he doesn't yell and piss and moan, he believes and trusts his guys
and that's why they respect and want to play for him.

The guy I like to pull for, the underdog on this team, a player often times battling himself
more than the opposition continued to do alot of good things on the top line with Guerin and Comrie.
He's now our seasons plus minus leader at +5 with only 16 points.

Coincidentally, the plus minus stats of Comrie and Guerin has also improved since they received a new left winger.
Yeah, that guy, Andy Hilbert, the target of early season attacks as a scapegoat for our woes continues
to make little plays along the boards that force mistakes and he's slowly gotten some of his scoring up
with confidence.

Richard Park, another role player on this team has continued to plug away and make alot of great decisions while along with Hilbert have been great on the PK.

UFA's??
Satan, Fedotenko and Vasicek now have a weight off their shoulders after the rumormill had them
being shopped. They have alot to prove now to earn a new deal.

Kids? Hope Nielsen is fine but along with Comeau and a MUCH improved and focused Tambellini
we have some energy on that line.

Lastly, what about Bergenheim? When you play a whole game and even in the last 2 shifts
have enough gusto to finish your hits with authority, that is a great sign.

My point? They are playing playoff hockey. Forget the results from 3 weeks ago,
2 weeks ago and even last night. I see some good trends developing.

This team will make it. I believe it.

Good point about Nolan. I would have had a much stronger reaction. Glad he's behind the bench for us.
