Agreed about your comments on Hilbert and Bergie...otherwise, not much was going on with those forwards other than cycling, bad angle shots and 35 foot shots. |

Thank you Canada. Go get em!!! I'm kinda tired of every time we lose a game. I don't mind people criticizing play, heck I do that too. But every time we lose some are ready to mail in the season, turn out the lights and pack it in. Then we win a few in a row, get on the cusp of the 8th spot and its right back on the bandwagon. That see-saw some people are on is dizzying. It's like Coach Fassel said a few years ago... "I'm putting all my chips in the middle. this team is going to the playoffs. Your either with me or you aren't." Let's wait until they are actually eliminated before we bury the team. There are too many games against teams we are chasing to say we are done. Criticizing players and effort...fine. But lets not just give up all hope when all is not lost. Let's not be in such a hurry to bury these guys. Otherwise, why watch? As we learned from last year, we aren't dead until we are dead. We just need better efforts so we don't ourselves.

Was at the game today and it was disgraceful. The thing is, it's hard to even blame the players much. I mean they got 53 shots. It just comes down to the fact that you can only do so much with no talent. If they were awarded points for hitting the goalie in the chest they would be the highest scoring team in the league. |

Nick, How'd you get picked to do that? Pretty awesome man!

I'll agree with that. The building was pretty lifeless...wasn't even sold out. I think that we have all seen this team celebrated so many times (and deservedly so). But I think that the fan base is about ready to have something more recent than 1983 to celebrate. I mean I have been a die hard fan for the last 20 years. I started following them really closely when I was 10 years old and they lost to NJD in the playoffs. In my career as a die hard Islander fan my best memories are 1993 and a penalty shot in a series that we lost. As dominant as we were in the '80's we have been equally as pathetic since. I think that fans are sick of celebrating 25 years ago because it reminds us of how little we have done since. |

Right On Time.

What do you expect when the opposing team scores 9 minutes in and we NEVER counter back? PLUS many of the people there weren't even alive back then. Also it was a sell out. AND to be honest the ceremony was cool but it wasn't spectucular at all. It was 32 minutes, no video highlights, nothing real big at all. |

AND day games or always more mellow for two reasons. 1) More Kids. 2) Less Booze. When they win it is great, when they lose its dead crowd. Also living the glory days is nice, but it is done ALL THE TIME, and the only thing we have to fall back on. |

The second period was wild, but certainly frustrating. 29 shots in one period and nothing. I can say that I was impressed by Davison, he looked solid and made some good decisions on the point. The game was very disappointing, but the day was not. As you can see I was priviliged to be part of the parade. I got to hold Bill Torreys sign, which turned out to be great. I got introduced to the great Al Arbour before hand and got to listen to the insane amout of cheers for Mr. Torrey as he took his sweet time and shook just about everyone's hand on one side of the baracades. I asked him if it ever gets old for him and he just smiled and said it will never get old. I want to thank the Islanders organization for picking me and allowing me to be part of the celebration. As a fan of those cups these guys are my heros and was very special for me to be with them. For me yesterday the game was secondary to the event. I'll set up a thread in the photo album area with the pics we got along with MMings and Carbons slide shows. |

i agree that the celebrations of the cup teams has run its course. The last cup wsa won in 1983. I was born in 1984. Im 23 years old and consider myself a die hard fan but that team the pimp out 4 times a year is not MY team. Ive yet to see MY team. One that i can cheer for and tell my children about. It worries me that the more we become consumed with the past success of this team the more the current team will suffer. Is it motivation for today's players to become that team of the 80s or is a constant reminder that in the eyes of the fans theyll never be good enough. IMO enough with the old. This team needs its own identity. One thats not 25 years old |
