It's just so very sad.

Without the Olympics this year, the season will end the first week of April. The offseason will be plenty long for Garth and Company to try to right the ship for next season.

And yes, 25yr, the kids were the only bright spots on the team.

There will be a lot of plaques changing in that locker room over the summer, that's for damn sure.

I didn't mean to make that a "kids rule" post, but they did seem to be the only line playing with an inkling of desperation. Since our line combinations are not doing so hot, maybe Nolan should mix & match -- did someone say Comeau on the first line?

Dee - I thought of you when Nolan said he wishes he had 20 Bergenheims on the team, figured you heard it....
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Of course I did. But if we had 20 Bergenheims.... we'd all be dizzy.

I4C, Miller was left off the team because he was injured during the selection process....

"The answer was unclear. When Miller broke his thumb in a morning skate Nov. 2, he knew that he could return in time for the Olympics, but not necessarily in time for the selection of the team. Miller had played well in the orientation camp in Colorado Springs, and he knew Waddell from the world championships. But he was still just a rookie, and officials were leaning toward veterans.

After Miller came off injured reserve Dec. 9, he needed two rehabilitation games at Rochester, then some time to regain his rhythm at Buffalo. USA Hockey could not wait any longer. Officials tabbed three goalies — Philadelphia's Robert Esche, the Islanders' Rick DiPietro and Grahame — all more experienced than Miller but perhaps more porous."

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/20/sports/h...So0EpQT3xTgjU1w

But don't let facts get in your way. It's never stopped you before.

Had Miller not been injured he wouldve started over the other "porous" goalies lol

Yes, and at that time he had a grand total of 30 nhl games under his belt over a three year period. He hadn't played significant time in the NHL. Heck, he hadn't even won the starting job on his own team.

In the meantime, DP came off a very strong performance against TB in the playoffs and had a strong performance for team USA in the summer of 05. But again, don't let facts get in the way.

The truth is, no one was looking hard at Miller PRIOR to his injury. Check his stats prior to his injury. What Olympic team is going to have a starting goalie with 30 NHL starts and virtually no international experience start for them in the Olympics?

Like I said before, don't let facts get in the way.

2005- played approx 12 games before the injury and had not won the starting job yet.

So explain to me how he was supposed to be the starting goalie for team USA?

Your hatred of DP is beyond rational.

Game 1 R. DiPietro 18 3 15 .833 N. Khabibulin 30 0 30 1.00
Game 2 R. DiPietro 22 0 22 1.00 N. Khabibulin 24 2 22 .917
Game 3 R. DiPietro 23 2 21 .913 N. Khabibulin 28 0 28 1.00
Game 4 R. DiPietro 20 3 17 .85 N. Khabibulin 33 0 33 1.00
Game 5 R. DiPietro 37 3 34 .919 N. Khabibulin 26 2 24 .923
Series Avg Dip 90% Save%, Bullin 96.8%
Looks like DP was outplayed in the series, Game 3 featured DP's wandering which led to the first goal of the game. Plus St Louis' long range wrister to beat us in OT. Somethings dont change huh. He played ok, I wouldnt say he had a strong series. Khabibullin had a strong series.

"Miller had played well in the orientation camp in Colorado Springs, and he knew Waddell from the world championships" Yep no international experience huh, take off your Dipietro colored glasses they are a bit foggy.

When he actually accomplishes something for this franchise, or win lets say 2 games in a playoff series, I will be wrong, until then you are, face it.

LedZep,

How many times can we say..damn that goalie got lucky, or oh man we lost the game because the other teams goalie won it for them. Or how about, who is this guy who just outplayed DP, isnt he their 2nd or 3rd stringer? Or what about...who the hell just scored that goal from long range, behind the net, put it into the empty net after our man DP fell down, tripped over himself etc....how many first goal of careers or scoreless streaks does DP help end? For cryin outloud, other teams strategy has become let DP play the puck to force errors.

How many teams in the NHL call up Snow to see if DP is available to be traded

Another sizzling save% night for the franchise!

All the all-stars in the world couldnt help the veteran DPs still glaring mistakes....dumb penalties and dumb wandering ones. When will he learn? Is Sudsie not cracking the whip? Red Light Ricky needs Billy Smith, too bad he ticked the HOFer off!

"red light ricky"??? hey, caber do I know you???? I have only heard ONE other person call him that. I used to work with that person who called him that...he also was a ranger fan, which made it even more annoying....Though, I guess you're probably not that person, prob just a concidence, huh? :D

Other than Caber and Zep, the only people I've heard use that name are Rags fans...and considering his record against them...probably not accurate coming from RAgs fans...but I hear it alot from their mouths...because the swearing.

We were already guaranteed to see KO because now it wont cost a contract year, we are a budget team with a budget owner

Okay we got it... We aren't going to make the playoffs this year but you don't have to go posting about how bad Dipietro and everyone else is. Just chill and hope it's just that he's hurt.

I don't want 13 more years of this.

See Yashin :bag:

bring back yashin?! did somebody say bring him back? I hear he is still friends with wang. I do believe the Islanders can sign him after one year.

it is catchy I gotta admit...even though it is annoying. Hopefully, someday when the Islanders decide that they actually want to have championship teams instead medicore teams, and ricky is the goalie..(where would he be going  ) Islander fans can reverse that little name "thing" on ricky. Make it a positive thing :dontknow:

oh, and in case noone listened to all the islanders before their home game against the rags...russo and whats his face had several isles, snow and nolan on.

talk to ricky...mention contract..it was a good listen...ricky mentioned richter and how he stayed his entire career with one team. and rick said he owed to long island to stay...whatever it was nice, talked about the liducks..sorry I don't have a link, can't find it...

besides if anyone is interested just go to russo and whats his name website.

whatever...peace all...have fun...don't forget there will always be a tomorrow...even for Islander fans
