Last night's game was in a nutshell what the whole season has been about. 1. It started with a bleak July in which an unprepared Snow was overwhelmed, forcing the Islanders to take retreads and pin their limited hopes on players like Berard, Meyer, Bergeron, etc. I won't even get into the forwards but everyone knows here who are the guys making the big bucks but not producing. Then the "PP," a complete disaster this season, allowing the most SH goals. It happens because we had reckless players like Berard, Bergeron and at times, Campoli, pinching without having an understanding that there should be a forward in their area if they do so. Then the Satan placement at the point. It went on and on. It was finally stopped. Then Nolan revisited this inept experiment. Last night, two guys left wide open. But this has been the case all year, except the DP haters and bashers have their blinders on, saying he should be a gumby goalie. This defense the Isles constructed this season was as bad a defense they have had in many years. They have no hockey IQ, disregard positioning, and spend their time chasing a cycling process for most of the game because they lack speed. And when you see Witt playing on one leg, barely able to turn on his skates, it breaks your heart. What we got in July is what our results are going to be. Let's hope we draft wisely, because this franchise can be turned around in a year if done properly. There's enough cap space too to overpay, yes, I said overpay, for a quality Free Agent, not players who have no other options but us. |

Shooter while I agree games like last night are expected I disagree with your reasoning for why we got there.
I disagree that Snow was unprepared, maybe it was Isles fans that where unprepared, they made a play for top free agents and maybe a decision to NOT overpay now just to be hurt later. WE will have to wait and see how the Rang's and Philly decisions pan out but if you looked at it right now they haven't worked out like they had hoped.
Can't disagree with the PP sucking, I don't know what to say can 10-11 players all be that bad or is it adjusting to the new PP system or is the system just bad.
We are NOT playing with the Defense that was constructed by Snow. Campoli, Gervis, Sutton all OUT Johnson,Meyer, were suppose to be 7/8th defenseman with Berard/MAB playing in the 6th spot. So while I agree with your overall idea, I think we get there with different logic. |

The Rangers outhustled us and we became spectators trailing and following more than finishing hits and getting to loose pucks. No one goat on our team last night. They generated some chances but couldn't finish. Biggest difference were poor communication on our end and bad defensive coverage and yet we still had a shot to get even. Our powerplay has turned into a "pass-the-grenade" drill-like version of russian roulette to see who bombs it for us. They are now a few points away from a lottery pick, but still a few points away from a playoff spot. Not a great position but it's up to them because there is still a lot of hockey left and they have shown they can win in bunches. maybe this roadtrip is just what they need....now. Especially DP.

Last night sucked, yes. But we all know they are gonna win tomorrow and make it oh so close up until the very last game of the season where they either make it by a point or lose out by a point. You never know what can happen in the playoffs. All I hope right now is Ted gets Berard off the power play (and the ice) and plays the kids more!!!! I always wish the NHL was like football where we can decline the penalty whenever the Isles are awarded a power play. |

Okay, last night sucked. And the following are the Rifle's humble opinion of why it sucked. I apologize right now if I repeat any sentiment, but here goes: 1. It is very obvious we need an enforcer on this team. Someone should have punched the sh!t out of Avery early, and anybody else that got out of line. Excluding Simon, because IMO he had to go, either somebody has to stand up or we have to bring a guy up to enforce. We are dead without one. 2. Play the kids. For crying out loud, our PP sucks. Can we find a shift or two for them with a man up? And just to send a message, play them as the #2 line, give them 15 minutes of ice a game and see what happens. At least they have ENERGY. 3. Shoot the friggin' puck. That goes for Comrie, Hunter, Guerin and even Park. Stop trying to make the perfect pass and put the puck on net. Please. 4. Get SOMEONE, ANYONE to the front of the net. 5. Play Rick until he drops. Face it, while Dubie played well it was a mistake to play him in a game of such magnitude when you have 15 million reasons to play your #1. 6. Get Bergie as much time as possible. He is our best forward and we should play him until we have to drag him off on a cart. 7. Mr. Nolan, if this team is not going to respond to your "payers coach"philosophy, please feel free to kick the crap out of them, skate them into the ice at practice and play only those that deserve to play. What the hell, you've only got a handful of games to go, so go for it. 8. Brendan Witt is a warrior. If his playing in pain is not a motivating factor, you need a pulse. Perhaps some of the guys on IR can suck it up and contribute. There is more, but I now feel a little better... |

There was nothing wrong with trying to ride Dubies hot hand last night. We've been riding Ricky all year with "win one, lose one" results and there was absolutely no evidence what so ever that Rick would lead us to victory last night either. Is he our number one guy ? Yes, but that doesn't mean that he get's the start no matter what the circumstances. Sometimes to be successfull you have to think outside of the box and take chances. Sometimes it pans out, sometimes it doesn't. Rick will be back in there Saturday night and there are still 13 games left with several against Philly and the Rags.....don't touch that dial !!! |

Signguy in the house? WOW, havent seen him all year. Hope you said hi to him from me CUPZ. As far as the Islanders, what's to say? We stunk it up in front of the home crowd (or at least 60% was home crowd). Depot has called them a Jeckle and Hyde team and that's who they are. They come together and play hard one night, then the next it looks like they've never seen each other before. Garth, Ted, Charles I hope you guys are working on a plan for next year. I dont want to have to wear a :bag:. What gets me most is Charles Wang is a successful business man, successful CEO, built an empire of a company because he hired the best people so his company would be the best. Why cant they bring that approach to the ice and hire the best players? |

Dubie got the start, not because of Ricky being hurt, or his grandmother's death, but because Dubie earned a shot. Ted rewards those who earn it. Now that's done we'll see the Rick start every game until we get elminiated or clinch. |
