Having won two games in a row in exhibition play, the Isles will go for their third-straight tonight when they face the Florida Panthers at the Bank Atlantic Center at 7:30 pm in their final preseason contest. Rick DiPietro is scheduled to play in his first exhibition game tonight.

Head Coach Scott Gordon is scheduled to dress a lineup that will closely mirror the one set for Opening Night. DiPietro will play in his first game since March 15th against Montreal. Josh Bailey will also be in the lineup for the first time since he played against the Philadelphia Flyers on September 25th in London, Ontario.

The Islanders (4-2-0) have needed overtime to win two of their preseason games, including Friday's win over New Jersey. Chris Lee broke a 2-2 tie with his first-career NHL exhibition goal.

The momentum continued into Saturday, as the Islanders' defeated the Boston Bruins 3-1 at TD Banknorth Garden. Boston scored the game's first goal, but the Islanders scored three unanswered tallies, including two in the third.

Doug Weight notched the Islanders' first goal––his first as an Islander––while on the power play in the second period. Mark Streit and Jack Hillen earned the assists. Late in the third period, Jon Sim scored his second goal of the postseason to put the Islanders up 2-1. Thomas Pock picked up his first assist as an Islander and Bill Guerin grabbed the second assist, playing in his first exhibition game of the season. Mike Comrie put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal, assisted by Richard Park. Joey MacDonald earned the victory, stopping 28 shots. The Islanders out-shot Boston 36-29.

Florida enters tonight's game sporting a record of 2-2-2 this preseason. They have gone 0-2-2 in their past four games, however, dropping contests to Edmonton, Calgary, the Islanders and Montreal. This will also be Florida's final game before the start of the regular season.

Expect to see a veteran lineup from the Panthers, who no longer have former captain Olli Jokinen––now a member of the Phoenix Coyotes. In the off-season, the Panthers acquired hard-shooting defenseman Bryan McCabe, Keith Ballard, Wade Belak and Cory Stillman. The Islanders will have to watch out for shifty forwards Nathan Horton and Stephen Weiss. The Panthers' starting netminder throughout the season will once again be Tomas Vokoun.

GAME NOTES

2007-08 STATS

TEAM LEADERS
Islanders – Bill Guerin, 23 goals; Trent Hunter 28 assists; Mike Comrie 49 points, 87 PIM
Florida – Nathan Horton 27 goals, 35 assists, 62 points; Jay Bouwmeester, Gregory Campbell, 72 PIM

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Islanders - Power play: 14.5%; Penalty killing: 81.9%
Florida - Power play: 19.2%; Penalty killing: 82.4%

GOALTENDERS:
Islanders – Rick DiPietro (26-28-7, 2.82 GAA, .902 SV%); Joey MacDonald (0-1-1, 2.99, .918)
Florida – Tomas Vokoun (30-29-8, 2.68, .919); Craig Anderson (8-6-1, 2.25, .935)

2007-08 SEASON SERIES:
Islanders: 0-3-1

LAST MEETING – March 12, 2008 at Bank Atlantic Center: 4-2 Florida win

ROAD/HOME RECORDS:
Florida – 18-15-8 at home
Islanders – 17-20-4 on the road

Click here to watch Scott Gordon, Joey MacDonald and Tim Jackman talk about the preseason win over the Bruins.

New York Islanders

[/dohtml] |

I think it starts at 730 helmet |
| After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots" | |
