Did anyone record the game? Either Center Ice wasn't working or my DVD recorder crapped out? Please let me know, thanks!

Hope all is well. I will have a write on the blog tomorrow.

You can call me Joe.
Just got back from the game -- lots still to work on, but Joey (How YOU Doin') MacDonald was on fire. Watching him stone Tkachuk on a breakaway was worth the price of admission.

Other random observations

Andy (Hands of Gold) Hilbert gets on the board, earns his star. I was disgusted to hear him booed when he was announced, really glad he had such a great result.

Kyle (Lost an Edge) Okposo looked pretty good minus one unassisted fall and a couple of stray passes in close. Got the heart pumping when he broke in on goal with a nice lead pass....

Frans (Cheese Danish) Nielsen wound up on the ice more than I would like to see but also had many solid plays.

Jeff (Give Me a Break) Tambellini played pretty good. Looked a little lost on a few plays, but had nice pressure on the puck -- give him some time, take some of the pressure off and he should be fine.

John (Out of Pithy Nicknames) Sim and Nate (ditto) Thompson looked like they shouldn't be on the ice ahead of Blake Comeau - who got a pretty good round of applause when he was announced as one of the players not dressing....

Oh yeah - Trent Hunter had an excellent game -- besides the goal, he owned the boards, had a couple of nice hits, typical Hunter game.

Hey Sal,
Thanks! Still doesn't make me happy :angrier: . Well if anyone recorded it, I'd be much appreciative. Thanks!

This is not something that in a day he will be fine.
He may need another scope of his knee to correct this,
which of course turns into another period of rehab.

Who is the 3rd goalie :letssee:

Oh good lord. starting the obsession early this season? Now you are a surgeon?

He didn't start the first two games. Quick...the sky is falling.

Isn't it nice to have a backup who can play well in the beginning of the season??? or will you complain about that as well?

Why would anyone either rush or overuse a player coming off an injury the first week of the season? Its a long season. He'll be fine.

And again...believing what a Canadian media outlet publishes about the Islanders? When is the last time tsn had a scoop concerning this team? You should know better Zep.

If DP couldn't go, why would they have him on the bench?

Not to be a killjoy about this game, but Mason was terrible in net. 2-3 of those goals were Tom Carvel specials. he had no chance on the Hilbert goal, but Hunter's was soft and Bergie's wasn't exactly a screened shot.

I'm glad the Isles kept pouring it on in the first, but they will need to play more than 20 good minutes followed by 20 minutes to cure insomnia.

Agree 100%

That might work against a fairly young ST. Louis team with their awful backup in net but not gonna beat the teams in our division with softies like that...

I'm glad the Islanders came out strong. There was a great atmosphere at the coliseum to start the game (maybe it was the tailgating) and it was terrific to score first and set a great tone for the evening.

25yearfan, we must have been watching different Jon Sim(s) as I thought he played the way we want him. Attacking, creating space, getting into good positions, and getting into the face of the opponents after almost every whistle. He was like I'm gonna draw a penalty, take the puck, get a shot and get in your face after.

Okposo will be fun to watch all season. He was the guy who put on the jets to get the loose puck behind the net to start the scoring on Comrie's goal.

And what can be said about Awesome Andy. He play great, every shift last night and seems very comfortable under Gordon. It was a shame he was booed to start the evening. :nono:

All in all a fun night. Got to see some of my buddies who I hadnt seen since last season.

But now the down side.

NO MORE LOTTERY at the coliseum, anywhere, you cant even buy a ticket, let alone seeing Yolanda Vega on Saturday night Lottery nite. No more wheel, no more giveaways, no more gaming. What's wrong with our management. It was a huge bright spot for coliseum entertainment and always had a crowd around their table. Saturday nights will not be the same.

And WTF is going on with concessions. 9.00 for a soda (souvenier cup). 5.00 for a hotdog that's not nearly as good as last year's and more expensive. 4.50 for a water. I know sporting events are expensive but the increases this year in these economic times is a crime, a complete crime of larceny. Another huge  on this one. You must get SMG to lower their prices back to last year. It's already more expensive to come to the coliseum, and we as fans just have less money these days, period. Use some good ole common sense or I'll be forced to sell my other 20 games and stay at home.

Is Chris Mason Bob Mason's son from the OLD Washington Crapitals
Who the Isles would eat for lunch from time to time.

Bob Mason in goal for Pat L's 1987 OT goal ...i think :letssee:

To be fair, I was sitting right behind the big cameras and had a bunch of rugrats, so observations should come with an * for ability to see & attention span....

I agree that Sim is gritty, just thought he missed finishing / looked out of position / took a bad penalty here & there. We're only in Game 2, so there's probably lots of upside - my point was I just felt Comeau looked like he has more offensive creativity. I am not ragging on Sim at all, he's probably a key element in doing well this season, as we're constructed.

Was great to see a 4-0 period too.

And the pizza is not as good as years past either. It got smaller and looked like it was made out of cardboard. :puke: But at least there's more of selection than last years. I don't they ever sold Salads and Wraps at the Coliseum. I guess they had to raise the prices after all the changes they made.

I agree Comeau should have been in the line up...but not replacing sim. I really dont think Nate Thompson is going to contribute anything significant to this team. I think they should scratch him and dress Comeau making the lines look like this...

Sim-Weight-Guerin
Okposo - Comrie - Park
Tambellini - Nielsen - Hunter
Bergenheim - Hilbert - Comeau

I just think we can do more offensively with Blake instead of Nate...

while true, it apparently seems that nate thompson is here for the sole reason of proving a point to comeau and management.

Gordon is in charge, and what he says goes.

Comeau is a fan and management fav, came into camp apparently overweight or just not ready to work or just plain old he looked at gordon wrong.

Comeau wants to play he has to impress Gordon. end of the line.
