No. Its just that he's an easy target. How anyone blames a goalie for goals 2 and 3 are beyond me. Gervais has a terrible giveaway in his own end on the PK (typical of Gervais, yet people continue to post that he's going to be a solid nhl defensemen when he's still making the same mistakes he made 3 years ago) and it leads to a 3 v1 where Ribero gets to skate untouched to 10' from the net untouched...make a pass for a one timer and its the goalie's fault? Anyone who claims that doesn't know anything about hockey. Same with the second goal. Okposo fails to backcheck his man that he is next to at the blueline...releases him to Pock who also never turns to pick up the same Dallas forward and he gets to deflect a pass standing 3' above the crease...untouched by two Islanders...and yet people will blame a goalie for that goal? Only people who don't know wtf they are talking about. You keep tooting your horn. We have a brutal defense, especially with Gervais logging so many minutes and Witt getting hurt. But you keep focusing on net. Then you'll go on about how he's untradeable even though he and Okposo are the only Islanders teams inquired about at last year's deadline. |

Are you kidding me... If rico had any defense at all he would've had a shutout tonight. He made so many amazing saves and let in only the ones that are unsaveable. |

Yeah Guerin is playing and he actually tries, maybe some of these young guys can actually start trying, Guerin does not have the talent he used to have put if you actually know anything about hockey he plays good poisition hockey and by the way Guerin Weight and Bergie were the only line that skated tonight. |

I have to agree . It was Nate who didn't clear the puck down ice on the penalty kill that led to the first goal. The penalty killers were out for about 90 seconds and Nate had the puck at the blue line and passed the puck to Hilbert who was going off for a change. By not getting the puck down ice, the D never got to change and were standing around to tired to move. To me, things like that shouldn't happen at the NHL level.

Bring back...PRIDE OF THE ISLAND
|
bergie on the top line looked goodricky did not lose this game tonight...mistakes and penalities cost us this game, we were screwed on few calls, but thats nothing new. Shouldn't be surprised about that. heck, the only exciting thing to happen tonight was a fight in the stands were even the players were watching. jon sim with a goal streit has been playing great, a goal and 2 assists, I believe tonight. Guerin saved the puck for him, don't know why though. I really miss the park-okposo-comeau line , always seemed to have chances, and they were exciting to watch. I just don't understand the reason behind ricky's thinking always coming out of his net, sometimes it just seems to be confusing to the defense. They just aren't smart enough to figure it out...or atleast not very good. Tamby another no show. Nielsen is no Sillinger. Comrie is holding Okposo back. All of the Islander players are one soft team together...Absolutely no team toughness. More games like this...and the #1 pick is all ours. Go Islanders |

I left this one at the start of the 3rd when Streit scored..knew this one was over as soon as Dallas went up 1-0. Still wondering why I went to this one....Our Defense is a joke. We can't score. |

Brodeur in the nets tonight wouldn't have helped. Two deflected goals, one a tip in on the doorstep and another a guy walked in all alone with a nice backhand. Sometimes the other team is just better than the stink that skates around the Coliseum. |

I'll start with the good as it's a much shorter list. Sean Bergenheim. Skating, hitting, standing up to Avery. He was energized last night and could use some others to skate like him. The bad... Bruno was brutal last night. Okposo looked like he didnt belong in this league all night. Nate Thompson does not belong in the NHL yet. Tambellini also looked like he didnt belong. What's with these weak sharp angle shots? Now with 6 games and counting without a goal. What's with 4 goals in 84 NHL games for the next great coming of the AHL superstar? Scott Gordon. This is not the AHL, time to revise the system into an NHL game plan. We looked unorganized, misdirected and soft. This AHL system is being picked apart so far by NHL talent. So far it looks like Steve Stirling:Part II (yes LED I agree with you). Team defense. Do I really need to explain? Odd man rushes, guys left alone in front. Does anyone on this team watch the back door? So far we have "The Plan" and "The System" and it's the fans who are "The Suckers". Hope Saturday is a better defensive effort. |

Unfair assesment Cups IMO. The Capitals have the premier player for the next 10 years and a good 2nd guy in Semin. Detriot, Colorado, Sabres...even the Rangers didn't have to start from scratch........That is a cop-out for not really having a good plan or not being able to (or wanting) to overpay to get players in our uniform. I was against the "scorched earth" approach from the beginning and I still think it's a HUGE mistake. We do not have the luxury of being able to start from scratch due to this team playing in a horrible building in the largest city/area in the US. The Isles could have picked up PLENTY of good players over the off-season ($hit, the guys off of waivers would have improved the team dramatically) and STILL been able to allow our young guys to grow (and some are not that young. I didn't even realize Park is 32). Do we all REALLY think it's a good idea to have Bailey playing in the NHL now? He's a kid and all he is going to know is how to take a beating night after night. Our goal should be to make the playoffs. That's it.....That should be our goal until we have a foundation to take it to the next step. I know everyone is "sad" that we only made the playoffs and didn't have a 1982-esque playoff run, but those days are long, long, long gone. We are nowhere NEAR making any kind of playoff run. The only run we are taking is the one for the $hittiest record so we can get this guy Tavares, and I'm hearing there is another prospect that may be better so he's not even a catch anymore. IMO, we need a "Yashin-like" signing again. Get someone who can be the offensive spark of the team and get us some credibility. Ok, so Yash didn't work out that well, but it wasn't a complete failure. People just focused on the money more than what he did for us, which was help us make the playoffs 4 our of 6 years.... No one wants to wait 3 years for this thing to turn around. I'm sorry, but they don't.....only the few die-hards on this board. If we do crappy for 4 seasons and the Lighthouse project falls, then it's bye-bye team.....and this is no joke this time. |
