THIS TEAM DONT HAVE TOP 3 ANYTHING

The team stinks. And it won't get any better this season. When your defense corp is filled with players like Meyer, Hillen, Gervais, etc it's depressing. When you have washed up vets gliding around the ice on the PP it's sad. When you see mostly four line players out there, you want to puke that you paid for a damn combo plan. Boy, was I stupid.

This team reminds me of the first two years of the Islanders franchise's existence.

By the 2nd year there were vast improvements and quality players on the team
Denis Potvin
Bob Ny
Bill Smith
Chico
And a few others.......

You could see the talent

On this team it's all.................and on and on :stoned:

I don't disagree there. So we're in the first year of the franchise again. I'm not jumping off a bridge yet until I see the draft results of this June.

This is not 1972 with Al Arbour and Bill Torrey.
The scenario the Isles are in has been taking place since 1985.

These new kids are average at best.
Tamby been weaving his magic for a few years now.

Octopus seems lost
Gretsky - Bossy -Trotts did not take 3 or 4 year to developed

Right off the bat you could see they were GREAT not good But GREAT

You sense nothing like this with the current Isles. :disgraced:

NOTE:
I know Gretsky was not an Islander but just using him as a example

Wish I could disagree.

The talent that this team has drafted is pathetic. I agree LED. Whether it's our scouts or GM, the players selected by this team dont have the right stuff. And to hear 'we finished 8th so all the good players are taken when we draft' is BS, some of the best players in the world werent drafted high, but scouts saw something in them. Bossy 15th overall, Trots 22nd overall, Tonelli 33rd overall.

The judge is out on Bailey, and even okposo, but where's our draft choice that makes an immediate impact?
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

Hello, Toronto? Does Burke want out of Anaheim?

By not signing the contract extension he has had on his desk for months, Ducks GM Brian Burke has, effectively, given the Anaheim Ducks notice. There are some around the NHL who believe he has little or no intention of signing it without actually saying so to Anaheim fans and the general public.

Meanwhile, by indicating this week that he intends to "make a decision" by Christmas, he's basically told the Ducks that by that date he won't be willing to pretend any more. It appears he wants out.

The Ducks wouldn't release him as he asked last spring, or at least give him permission to talk to other clubs. But soon that won't be their call any longer.

That, of course, will put the Ducks and team president Michael Schulman in a dicey predicament. When Burke tells them during the holiday season that he won't be agreeing to a new contract — only a major change of circumstances would change that now — Schulman will be left with the problem of having a lame duck GM heading towards the trade deadline and, after that, the draft and free agency. The complication, of course, is that if Burke decides to start re-working his roster but isn't committed to the Ducks beyond this season, it creates an awkward perception for everyone involved.

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, meanwhile, the search committee headed by Gord Kirke is still operating, but at a very low level. Burke, Ken Holland of Detroit and Doug Wilson of the San Jose Sharks are believed to be three GMs coveted by the Leafs and the first to spring free would likely get the job.

i hate that i'm saying this....but I wish we had toronto's problems.

just another day to be :disgraced:

fyi- Billy Smith was on the 72-73 team.
Chico played only 2 games in that 73-74 season. He was called up for good in the 74-75 season (year 3)
Bobby Ny played 11 games for the Isles in 72-73 so if Chico is a player in season 2, then Ny was one is season one.

It was year three they added some talent in Clark Gillies, JP Parise, Joude Druan,

Year two they added Bert Marshall, Billy MacMillian and Potvin.

But there were still guys from that first cup team that were on the original team- Nystrom, Smith, Howatt
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

Your correct but this team has no such caliber of talent on it that equals
the players you named above.

But haven't we been saying that since 02? Taking Bergenheim, Nillson and Nolkie in the first round from 02-04 was a joke. You are right that the judge is still out on Okposo and Bailey, but as far as those winning Isles teams and other winning teams, they are typically built in rounds 1-4, not the first round only.

Yes, Torrey did a great job, but the draft was easier back then. Keep in mind Trots was a second round pick in 74. Teams don't get a second round pick in the 20's overall anymore. tonelli wasn't a first rounder. He and Langevin only ended up Islanders because of the WHL merger and their teams had to give their players back to the NHL team that drafted them. Langevin played in Edmonton in the WHL but came to the Isles due to the merger.

I think you are right that the Isles have to do a better job of drafting and evaluating, but it ain't the draft of the 70's and 80's anymore.

well, you are already calling Okposo a bust after 6 games who what does it matter if it is 6 games or 13 years.

You finally said what I've been telling you for 3 years on this board. If you don't put talent on this team, it won't matter if you have Ken Dryden or Jesus Christ in net. Jesus saves, but someone will put in the rebound with the likes of Franz Neilsen not backchecking, Gervais giving away passes in his own end, both he and Campoli leaving their feet to block passes.

I've never seen a single player win a stanley cup, so until the Isles put some talent around DP, it really won't matter what he does. As Luongo showed in Fla, strong goalies can't do it all themselves.

So now that you admit that the Isles aren't putting talent around DP, perhaps you can stop your obsession with just one player.

Don't worry, I know that isn't really going to happen.
