Ladies & Gentlemen, here are your "Sofa King" highlight players of the game

#1 - Sutton - wasn't just solid, he was "Sofa King" solid
#2 - Gervais - wasn't just brutal, he was "Sofa King" brutal (how come my 9 year old knows how to play the man / not try to make cute plays on the puck better?!?)
#3 - NYI whole team (except maybe Park/Hilbert/Tambellini) in the 3rd -- they weren't just outshot, outhustled, outthought in the 3rd, they were "Sofa King" outeverythinged....
#4 - useless postgame - Hockey Night LIVE isn't just horrible, it's "Sofa King" horrible. Seriously, once they start that Hockey Night LIVE garbage, I have to turn the TV off. Maybe "Sofa King" would really sponsor a NYI postgame. I want to hear Gordon post-game, but can't risk the possibility of throwing something through my flatscreen every time Trautfig opens his mouth.

p.s. Agree with whomever posted it above - those weren't just the wrong guys to put on the shootout, they were "Sofa King" wrong.... Nielsen, Okposo, Tambellini - let it ride on their shoulders now -- I think they have at least as good a chance as Guerin / Weight - maybe not Hunter, but that's a different post. I suppose the coaching staff sees these guys day in / day out & knows tendencies, but I'd like to see the kids get a shot....

p.p.s Anyone else count how many non-calls against the Penguins? I had at least a couple of grabs / haul downs, including what looked like a trip in the NYI D zone just before the Penguins broke out for goal #1.

Different night, same old story...out played in the third. They just stand around and the only skating they do is to chase the puck. They can not even get the puck out passed the blueline and when they do, they can't get the puck deep.

The other thing that makes me angry is that the Isles are trying to make the perfect pass instead of taking the shot when they have the opportunity. Just shoot the puck...it could be the Isles only one or two shots on goal in the third period.

One point is better than zero, but the shootout is a perfect place to play the kids. There is no opposing players to pressure them. It's another good opportunity for the kids to prove themselves.

Exactly. Shoot outs are the perfect place for the kids. Esp Tamby. Wrong personel on the ice for the shootout. The ref's screwed us again. Hunter's shot went in. His whole pad was in the net. In net= goal

Just got home from another disheartening loss..I'm telling you if hockey was only a 40 minute game..The New York Islanders would rule the NHL anyone know who to contact about changing the rules?

Right On Time.
My take:

1) Joey played well, very well.
2) Nielsen is/has taken a big step forward as a hcokey PLAYER, scoring will take time.
3) Okposo - See number 2.
4) Mark my words Mark Streit "D" will only get worse, and people will post about, well we knew he was more like a winger etc.
5) Our team wasn't very talented opening night. We do have a TON of injuries. All teams will say injuries happen, but they aren't all equal. We need our full team more than others as well.
6) I hate Mike Comrie SO much and even Gordon seems to be feeling that way.
7) With DP, Radek, Meyer, Witt, Sillinger, Bailey it may be a different story, not to mention all the games missed from the other guys. I do think MacDonald has played well, VERY well but DP has always been a good third period goalie.
8) Putting Guerin and Weight out there does bug me a little.

I saw Fedotenko get away with a high stick on I think it was Streit or Hilbert in the second.

I had ice level seats last night in Section 109x. Never sat that close for a game in my life.

Here are some photos from last night. I have nothing to comment on it except to say Awesome Andy was terrific, Sutton and Okposo were also very good.

Comrie and Tambellini, again playing to disappointment. They are both hurting this team, one from being uninspired the other from being invisible.

I don't think it was as bad as their other third period collapses. They only had a 1 goal lead this time, but they failed to put the game away.

I don't discount Guerin's, Weight's and Hunter's shooting abilities, but to really utilize the youth movement, Gordon needs to give the youth these game-on-the-line chances. Give Okposo the go and say, "Make Sabourin go whaaaa?" If Okposo fails, he still learns something about the shootout and gets the experience. Look at the Pens only goal in the shootout: Sykora went fancy and got it over Joey Mac.

but Franz did great in the SO last year and Nolan had the foresight to put him. Why go with the veterans just because they are the veterans.

AndTambellinio, as awful as he was had his best Islander moment in the SO last year at MSG.

Was dissappointed to who went in the SO but I betcha Gordon adapts and goes with someone else next time.

agreed...
I would have went with Park, Nielsen, Okposo for the first 3... MAYBE Bill G but what do I know.

Yeah, I couldn't catch the game, but based on what I've read, I'm surprised Frans wasn't in the SO lineup. Wasn't he supposed to be very good in SO?
