Not sure where to post this...

Im not sure if its my TV or my box, but does your audio fade in and out at frequent rates during the game?

For example its the audio quality is fine and then all of a sudden for no reason, you can hardly hear anything for 3-5 seconds and then the quality goes back to normal.

Anyone else having this problem?

It's actually not "for no reason", usually. If you'll notice, it almost always happens when the puck goes off the crossbar or the boards, or slaps hard against a stick, resulting in a momentary loud PING or some such. It's the audio guys that are doing the telecast - they don't know what the 'threshold' setting is for on their compressor/limiters. Those devices are supposed to 'normalize' the audio levels, bringing up quiet sounds and lowering loud sounds into the same general volume. When a loud 'transient' occurs, if the device isn't set properly, you get the effect you're referring to.
Games on NBC suffer from the same garbage.

Apparently those devices are turned off during the commercials which are ridiculously louder than the rest of the telecast.

I want to punch whoever made commercials louder in the d!k. It happens on all channels. Like a screaming commercial is going to make me WANT to buy something?

The idea is when you get up to leave for the refrigerator you can still hear the advertisement. Stupid now really, as we all have a remote and either mute or surf while the commercial is on and it's not watched anyway. Or do like we do with the DVR, start the pregame/game 15-20 minutes behind and catch up at the expense of the commercials.

exactly.
Network TV's been doing that for years now.

Enter witty comment here...
What's even worse is trying to watch a game on the time Warner Cable system when all three local teams are playing. I was in Queens for the second Islander-Sens game. They didn't even list the game on the preview guide - had to guess at 7PM where it would be. And when I did find it, the video was like watching UHF in 1981. Terrible reception, horrible audio. Yet the Devils and rags were broadcast in HD.

When will MSG realize that the Devils are a NJ team? Stick them on the bad feeds and let comcast clean it up in the garden state.

Ah why bother though, these things never really improve. Thank goodness for the TV deal the islanders have - it may not look pretty, but it pays...

I like watching the games on Time Warner better than Cablevision. I made sure to figure out where all of my Islander channels are so I never have to guess. Unfortunately, I don't have games in HD at the moment, but that is a reason not related to which cable provider I have.

About 15 or 20 years ago the FCC made it illegal for stations to raise the volume during commercials. It worked for a long time, but I guess it's been so long they think they can get away with it now.

Me too, I absolutely friggin HATE that. I can't reach the remote fast enough to mute or change the channel. You should see what my 93 y.o. mom goes through with the remote. Friggin money hungry SOB's with the loud commercials. :nono:

Why can't TWC or MSG figure out how to show Devils games in NJ and NYI games in NY so games don't get bumped to the overflow channel MSG+2 when both teams play at the same time? This is 2008 for crying out loud. My wacky TWC cable never shows games on the overflow channel so I'm forced to listen to C. Dey's brainstorm on XM satellite radio which sounds like it's in a cave and gets the home team's announcers.

Last night I was in my glory as I watched both the NYI and NYR games at the bar. Beautiful HD picture with no audio problems as the sound was real low and music played. NYI game was on 2 TV's, NYR game on1 and MNF on 2. I had my own personal war room...with 30 drinking buddies. A great time was had by all epecially because they shut off the NYR game before the shootout and NYI won plus the buzz.
